Author's Note: After a request from one of my readers, I have decided to continue this story and make it from a one shot to a two shot and maybe a three shot as well.
kingkiks, Thank you for your feedback! I will now be adding and extending onto this story with the proposal from Oswald, I hope you like this chapter along with everyone else!
On with the fic.
One year later.
Oswald woke up with a stretch and yawn as he stretched sleepily.
Eivor was opposite him, hurriedly getting dressed. She pulled on a tight skirt along with some tights, before grabbing her black blazer that hung by the bedroom door.
"Going so soon?" Oswald sleepily asked looking at Eivor
Eivor quickly paced forward in a hurry to where Oswald was half sitting in bed.
"Yes. I got work. You know where the money for food is. I got to go now. Take Care" She placed a light kiss on his forehead before scurrying out of the door
Oswald nodded back at her before calling "Bye Babe!"
He heard Eivor's voice echoing back to him "Bye Darling!" before the door slammed and she was gone.
Oswald smiled to himself, knowing what he was going to do next. He had a plan. Ever since he turned 18, he had this plan in mind and he was about to put it into action.
He shuffled to the end of the bed before getting up. Walking down the stairs, he headed for the kitchen.
Time to find the money she left me.
He walked towards the kitchen table, where a post it note with kisses was left by Eivor it read:
Your daily food allowance. Eat well . Eivor X
Removing the post it note, he found £30 in cash that was left for him by Eivor.
£30 left for the big surprise. I got £30 for balloons and a cake and of course a cheap ring too.
He pocketed the cash, before going upstairs to get ready.
Two more minutes until the shops open. He thought impatiently, while tapping his feet and staring at his phone, nerves and anticipation filling him.
Then suddenly the familiar ringtone and the sound of the iphone's alarm went off indicating it was time. It was 9am and he could start with the surprise.
I got 6 hours to decorate and prepare the surprise before she comes back. Can I do it?
Pushing back his nerves, he took a deep breath and opened the door before stepping out onto the street. Locking the door behind him, he walked towards his first destination.
Card Factory.
Ten minutes later, Oswald had reached the town's centre and was inside the card shop.
Engagement Cards and Balloons. I can start off there.
He started towards the engagement aisle, looking at the various cards before he settled on one with a bear and love hearts on it.
Eivor will like this one. She always has been a sucker for stuffed bears and animals.
Oswald smiled as he remembered their second valentines together and their first since he had moved in, and how he had spoiled her with a me to you teddy bear from Clintons, yet again skipping lunch just so he could spoil her.
Eivor had cried. Cried tears of happiness and then rewarded him with a big cuddle and kiss.
He took the card smirking and flushing at the thought, before heading to the balloon aisle once more.
Engagement balloons. Which look nice? What shall I choose? Something that Eivor will like
Oswald hummed in thought as his hand hovered over the balloon aisle.
Ah. She'll like these ones.
He grinned once more as he picked up several flat helium balloons, one with golden writing on it, another big one in the shape of a diamond ring, and several pink ones. He took them to the counter.
"Hello" the female clerk greeted him
"Hi. Can you blow these up for me?" Oswald replied politely
"Sure. I will be right back" The Female clerk said smiling back at him
Oswald watched as the woman went to a helium machine, and the sound of Helium blew in the background, as another memory came.
His 17th birthday.
Oswald had just come back from college, tired and exhausted when Eivor, who had taken the day off work to surprise him, burst in blowing a party popper, whilst wearing a party hat greeted him: "Happy Birthday!"
Oswald dropped his bag in shock as he stared at the living room, all decorated in big blue balloons, along with another that had the number "17" on it. He loved blue, it was his favourite colour.
After getting over the initial shock and surprise, he hugged Eivor and then they sat down to eat some Cake. Chocolate. Eivor remembered that he liked chocolate. He had always eaten Choclate Cakes ever since he was a young boy, and she remembered.
Jolting back to reality, the clerk spoke as he jumped in suprise. "Your Balloons, Young man. They're ready"
"Oh. Yes. Thank you" Oswald quickly took them awkwardly flushing at the same time.
The woman smiled kindly back to him. "Is there anything else?"
"Ah yes. Just this Card" Oswald said while passing the card back to her
The woman looked at the card before smiling at Oswald. "That would be £2.10 then"
Oswald handed the woman a fiver as she returned the change back to him.
"Thank you. Now have a nice day!"
"You too!" he called back giddy smiling.
The whole short trip home, Oswald was almost skipping. Passers by gave him a funny look, glaring as he carried the engagement balloons in open space, he flushed at the attention but other than that it didn't bother him.
Unlocking the door with one hand, Oswald entered the house while making sure and taking care not to accidentally deflate the balloon. Or else his hard work carrying the fragile balloons all the way would be wasted.
Once he got all the balloons inside, he set to placing them in the right place, spacing them evenly across the living room and where it was in view from the door.
Perfect. Now I just need the Cake and the ring. Cake next. Ring Last.
He headed out for town once more, stopping by a cake store. He went to the counter searching for the perfect cake amongst rows and rows of iced cakes, buttercream, chocolate and all.
A voice spoke, interrupting his search. It was the Baker.
"Need any help?"
Oswald cleared his throat, startled at the interruption. "Um yes. I would like a Wedding Cake. One that's used for engagements. I would like to give one to my girlfriend who I hope will end up my fiance"
The baker smiled back. "Well then. You're in luck. We have a few cakes that cater to brides and women." he gestured towards the counter before pointing to several
"We have several to choose from. This one with some roses, or you can have a plain one that can be customised to your liking, such as icing with the question, or we have another with a princess crown and tiara on it. Up to you. What does she like?"
"I'll have the one with the roses. I want it to be romantic, she also likes flowers too" Oswald answered promptly
"Does she? Well I guess this one will be the perfect one for her then" The surprised Baker said
"Yes. It will be. Perfect like her" Oswald smiled as the baker looked back at his dreamy expression, before placing the cake in a cake box and bag.
"That will be £10 then. Is there anything else you would like? Or is that it?"
"No. I think I will be fine. Thank you" he replied, giving the baker a £10 note.
"Very well then. Have a nice day. Good Luck" The baker spoke once more handing Oswald his goods.
"Thank you. You too" Oswald answered politely before leaving the store.
Cake done. Last item, Ring.
Oswald already had a rough idea where to get the ring from. He had looked quickly on his way back from College, passing by certain shops along the way and he decided this was the perfect one for someone on a budget. He had £18 left.
It was a cute little pawn shop, that sold second hand items that were still in fairly good condition, including jewellery. He had debated several times on getting a necklace for Eivor from there, but never got round to it.
Walking in, he opened the door as it let out a little chime, the doorbell hitting against the door window's frame.
An old man smiled from reading a book, as Oswald walked inside, his trainers creaking against the wooden floorboards.
"Hello" the old shopkeeper greeted him
"Hi" Oswald replied politely
"Need any help?" He inquired looking towards Oswald
"No. I'll be just fine. Thank you though"
The old Storekeeper nodded. "Very well then. If you need anything, give me a shout!"
"I will do" Oswald said before he continued to the old jewellery section.
Looking towards the table he scanned for rings. There! In several old Swarvoski boxes, there were a few silver rings. He picked each one examining the price and appearance.
Too expensive. Too Plain. Eivor wants one with a diamond on it. Too Chavvy. Too masculine, that's a man's ring.
Just when he was about to give up, he found one that had a little small diamond encrusted on it, for the right price. It was wrapped up in an old red velvet box.
£18. Perfect. I have just enough.
He walked up to the counter placing it on the wooden desk, alerting the old storekeeper.
"I would like to buy this" Oswald started
"Oh, Hello. It's you again. Yes you certainly may, young man. Oh wow, She's a beauty isn't she" he said picking up the diamond and referring to it
Oswald chuckled at the man's words and tone. "Yes. I'm hoping to impress my girlfriend with it and then ask her hand in marriage. I don't have much money as I'm young, but I hope she likes it none the less"
The storekeeper looked back at Oswald with a sympathetic glance. "Oh. Young man. We need more men like you. I remember back in my day a lot of men would go up to their girls and buy them flowers and ask them out. But these days, they're all glued to their phones. I'm sure she will love it. If she's the right one for you. I was the same when I was your age, broke and in love wanting to impress a woman. Thankfully she loved it and we've been married for 50 years with three kids"
"Ah yes! Flowers! How could I forget? Eivor loves her roses. I also need to get some petals to decorate the bed with! Thank you for reminding me" He babbled out, shocked that he could forget something so important.
The old shopkeeper smiled back at him. "Tell you what. I'll give you a discount so you have money left to buy her some flowers. I'll sell you the ring for £12. I don't need the money anyway. It's for charity."
Oswald looked at him surprised, hardly believing what he was hearing and the old man's kindness.
"What? Really? You mean that. Oh Thank you so much! Thank you!" he sputtered handing the man the change
He laughed, patting Oswald on the shoulder. "Your Welcome. Now you go get her pal!"
"I will do. Thank you!" Oswald babbled once more as he hurried out of the shop to the nearest co-op.
Once he was in Co-op, he headed for the flower aisle, settling for some roses and also a basket of petals which he put in the bag. Having spent the last of the money on the flowers, he walked home.
Now that's everything. 3 hours left until Eivor comes back. Time to decorate the bed, then wait for her to come home.
His stomach grumbled as he went back inside before heading for the bedroom, scattering the petals everywhere, the petals falling on the white sheet in front of him.
Another day hungry. But it will be worth it, seeing her smile. That smile is worth more than any food can give me.
Dusting his hands off as he finished decorating the bed, he walked around the house double checking the set up before crashing down the couch in exhaustion. He flicked on the TV for a bit while waiting. Soon Eivor would come home.
Minutes before Eivor was due to arrive, he switched off the TV, having gotten bored of it anyway and sat down nervously waiting for her arrival. Just then the sound of a lock unlocking through the door came, as he fidgeted with the ring and the box behind his back.
"I'm home" Eivor's voice called out
Instead of leaping off the sofa and pulling Eivor into a hug and kiss like he did every day, he stayed on the sofa letting her approach him.
Eivor didn't notice, being too exhausted to care. It was Friday night and she just wanted to let her feet up for the day and rest.
"Ugh I'm so tired. These kids have been ratting my brain all day. And Coursework. So much damn coursework. I just want a hot bath and feet rubs. I can't be arsed anymore" She grumbled
Oswald watched as Eivor threw her pumps off and her work bag, stumbling into the living room towards Oswald.
Oswald smiled at her grinning widely. Eivor frowned back at him confused.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that? What's gotten into you"
Oswald chuckled partially out of nerves and partially because he found her frown funny. She was cute like that when her brows furrowed up.
"Look in front of you where the kitchen is. I'm surprised you haven't noticed yet"
Eivor gasped and nearly screamed as she read the lettered balloons that he had put in order across the kitchen floor. It read: "Will you marry me?"
Oswald smiled, heart warming at her shocked expression. It was priceless. Before he got down on one knee and presented the ring to her.
"I know it's not the best, as I don't have much money, but Eivor ever since I turned 18, I've been thinking about this. About you, about us. About how far we've come. You're beautiful, smart, kind and cute. You're my best friend and I love you so much and I'm ready. Ready to move things further with you"
"Eivor. Eivor Varinsdottir. Will you marry me?"
Eivor gasped once more as she felt tears roll down her cheeks, at the sight of Oswald. Her Oswald, wearing nothing but a tracksuit holding a cheap ring, on one knee smiling and waiting for her. Her handsome boy and prince in front of her. Her young soulmate.
Before she could stop herself, Eivor ran or more like charged towards Oswald, crushing him into a hug.
Sobbing into his shoulders as he held her back tightly. Eivor murmured
"Yes. Yes I will"
Before pulling back and saying much louder as tears continued to fill her eyes. "Yes. Yes I will"
Oswald looked at her once more, not believing what he heard. It all happened so fast, the moment he had been waiting for, it almost felt unreal, like it was a dream.
"Are you sure?" he hesitantly asked unsure as whether she meant it or not.
Eivor nodded. "I'm damn sure. I don't care what you have and that it's a shitty cheap ring from a thrift store. I know you starved yourself just to spoil me and that is already enough. I just love you and only you, nobody else. That is why I want to be your wife"
"Awww baby" Oswald croaked feeling misty eyed and lost for words
"Shhhhh" Eivor soothed, placing a finger to his lips.
"Place the ring on me" she quietly ordered
Oswald pulled back from the embrace, gently grabbing her hand and then sliding it across her ring finger before standing back up
"I love you" He said staring into her eyes as she stared back at him.
"I love you too. My Future Husband" She smiled back at him, placing a hand across his cheek.
"My Future Wife and Baby Girl" he smiled back reaching in for a kiss.
"Always. No matter what" Eivor grinned before reaching in and kissing him.
Author's Note: And that's it, that's the end of the proposal chapter as requested by kingkiks I will be writing one last chapter on them having kids in a few years time probably when Oswald is 21 (he is 18 at the moment) for any of you all complaining about being underage, he is an adult now legally UK wise, he is 18. So it is not underage even if it started as underage he can legally date anyone now as he no longer is a child. Also 18 is the age where you can get married legally without guardian's permission in the UK so Oswald doesn't need his disapproving Mum's approval to marry Eivor and neither does Eivor as she's already past 18 anyway. Now that that's cleared up, I hope you enjoyed!
