Of course, it was not easy for Christen to be unable to hear as that made her short-tempered, causing her to be more violent. Yet, the raven-haired young woman did try to convey herself through speech, but she mispronounced things all the time. Only when she shouted was she coherent! As aforementioned, Emily knew another dark-skinned girl named Janet at school, who was deaf.
However, she had gone through speech therapy. Consequently, she conveyed what she wanted to say through other means if she could not pronounce it. So, Emily presented the ideas of mouthing short phrases, writing, and using body language to Christen! With no other option, the dark-eyed princess of Mars accepted, and, for the most part, it worked!
Surprisingly not, if you know how Christen was- she had no issues fighting as she always yelled her attacks in excitement. Today, with Chibiusa and Jewel sitting this one out, the teams were switched up like this. Gracie & Christen vs. Crystal & Ariel. Holly & Trisha vs. Alexis & Emily. Star & Ivy vs. Dawn & Shadow
Neo-Super Sailor Venus employed the same attack as the last battle, only this time with Neo-Super Sailor Mars. The ability is called "Random Furious Triangular Flame Beams Shots Barrage!"
"Yes!" Christen cheered as she noticed their attack going off without an issue, so she must have said correctly.
"Aqua Dragon!" Neo-Super Sailor Jupiter and Neo-Super Sailor Mercury could have done better. Yet they stopped themselves from getting torched and 'hit the deck,' so to speak, to avoid the beams.
On the other side of the field. "Typhoon Shaker!" Neo-Super Sailor Pluto and Neo-Super Sailor Uranus developed a better offensive attack than with the first team match-up.
"Silent-" Neo-Super Sailor Saturn began to say. However, she soon screamed as hurricane-force winds flung her into the air!
"Saturn!" Neo-Super Sailor Neptune ran to grab her. Except she was knocked off her feet by the earthquake-like vibrations from the second effect of the attack.
Figuring this was too much for them, Neo-Super Sailor Pluto and Neo-Super Sailor Uranus ceased the combo. "Gotcha' angel!" Uranus's daughter caught Emily as she fell from the air!
'Angel' is a title used as a joke among the Senshi because Emily's powers are Death and Destruction. Simultaneously, she was a Warrior of Love and Justice, too. "Holly, don't call me that." Saturn's daughter's eyes appeared to have a small red triangle in each of them when she got mad.
Hotaru had worried this might be some reminisce of Mistress 9. Nevertheless, she was sure Sailor Moon had thoroughly cleansed her years before she had her kids. Also, Emily rarely ever shows anger because she is an introvert. Yet she was proud of her heritage.
"It's just a joke, Emi." Uranus's green-eyed offspring set the ebony-haired girl on her feet as Trisha is helping Alexis up.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but Emily silently wished she was deaf too, just so she did not have to hear everyone teasing her, though they stuck up for her a lot too. Emily remained significantly different from her friends. First, Emily's dark skin stood out among her light-skinned teammates.
Secondly, her introverted personality made her the most serious out of the girls. Thirdly, she remained nervous about letting others know her sexuality and worried about being anything like Mistress 9. One of Emily's worst traits is tuning out her friends when she has lots on her mind, which she had been doing all evening after the practice. Naturally, all the girls thought she was mad at them.
"Sorry, Emily," Chibiusa spoke for all her friends.
"What...?" Emily looked up from her supper, distracted.
"We're sorry about teasing you today." Chibiusa elaborated.
"It's fine. I'm not mad. I just got a lot on my mind." Emily half-lied, as most introverts do not like conflict. Plus, the brown-eyed girl wasn't mad at Chibiusa for anything today.
Any social situation with more than two other people was always challenging for Emily. She strongly felt she was never heard in a crowd, so would it be any different if she went deaf? She was about to find out! The next day, Emily felt her hearing was off. She could feel it, and everything sounded muffled to the point she could not hear soft sounds, and loud sounds were misheard, interpreting them as something other than what they were!
"Two odd cases...You girls know what that means?" Chibiusa gave them a grave look.
"Investigate as Senshi!" Gracie jumped up and down in excitement.
Of course, Christen could not precisely determine what Gracie had said but needed to catch Chibiusa's look and the redhead's reaction. So, she knew what she and Emily were going to get into! Well, it would be worth it if it got the girls their hearing back! Thankfully, Emily dealt with her handicap much better than Christen. She even knew some ASL and decided to teach common phrases to the others! This would make things a ton easier! Still, what could be causing the girls to lose their hearing?
