I realized I've never mentioned anything about what Izuku looks like in this AU, so since I don't know how to incorporate it, I'm just gonna say it here.

His hair is a mix of his parents. No, not half and half like Shoto's. Not even separate colors. His hair a lighter red, almost pink but not quite. Like when you mix white and red paint. His eyes are a light grey like his moms. And he does still have freckles, we're going to say from another relative, like a grandparent or something. He's still short, lol. And he's still got his big eyes and signature grin. His personality is also pretty much the same, just with the changes that everything he's been through would likely effect him with. Him and Shoto are not identical twins, as you can see by now.

Now, let's continue the story.

Izuku threw the ball.

Only activating his quirk on his one finger, the last second it was touching. Only breaking his one finger. Not putting him out of commission.

Hah! Take that, Aizawa!

He watched as the ball flew away, leaving a trail of smoke behind it. Then he turned to Aizawa, who held up the screen he was holding.

705.3 Meters.

0.1 meter more then Kacchan!

His finger was in extreme pain, but he held up his arm and pulled it into a fist, showcasing his broken finger, giving Aizawa a determined, but probably clearly in pain smile.

"See? I'm still standing."

His eyes widened.

That felt good, proving him wrong about having no potential.

He had potential.

He hoped.

"DEKU YOU IDIOT!!" Izuku jumped as he heard a familiar yell and turned to see Kacchan sprinting straight towards him, arm out and sparking. "YOU BETTER TELL ME HOW YOU DID THAT!!"

"Wah!" Izuku yelped and put his arms in front of him, preparing to be slammed.

But then Kacchan's quirk suddenly stopped and he froze, being held back by Mr. Aizawa's capture scarf, and his quirk activated, hair flowing upwards and eyes bright red and terrifying, staring at Kacchan angrily.

Mr. Aizawa drags a yelling Kacchan over to him and scolds him, but Izuku isn't paying attention much. Because his eyes couldn't help but drift over to Shoto, and their eyes met.

Shoto was as unreadable as always, the only expression that he could really make out was surprise. No, shock. His eyes were definitely wider then usual. Right?

It pained his heart a tiny bit at the realization that he couldn't read his own twin brother. That seemed like something that wouldn't happen in a normal family.

Dang it.

It was going to be hard to seem like a normal family around the others, huh?

He gave a halfhearted smile to Shoto.

So far, the only interaction they'd really made was saying hi when they passed each other in the classroom while he was going to his seat. Izuku didn't know how to talk to him, what to say, what to do.

Even if he really wanted to talk to him again.

He missed him. He missed the Shoto he hung out with all the time when they were little. He missed him almost as much as he missed Touya and mom.

But it had been ten years since they really talked, much less hung out.

He didn't know if Shoto felt the same way he did. Did Shoto even want to be his friend again too? What if he'd just be annoying him? Maybe he should just keep staying away from him...

"Alright, Uraraka, your next," Aizawa called, snapping Izuku back to attention. Izuku then walked back over to the group, trading places with Uraraka, who walked up to the circle in the grass, holding a new ball.

Izuku kept his head looking forward and tried to focus on the rest of the kids turns, but he could practically feel the angry glares at him from Kacchan, and the confused gaze of Shoto from behind him.

He could feel both of their eyes on him through the rest of the tests. It made it incredibly hard to focus, on top of him struggling with the tests in general since he didn't want to use his quirk again unless he had to.

Which is why, as Aizawa was preparing to pull up the screen showing where everyone placed, he was almost certain he'd be the one going home, in last place.

And he was right.

It stabbed the second he saw his name at the bottom.

He failed already.

He could hear Kacchan's snicker and didn't dare look up at him, certain he had a grin on his face.

But he did look up at Shoto, who was looking down at him too.

His face was still expressionless.

Well, except for a little bit of... what was that- sadness? Or frustration? Both?

Was he upset at him?

He looked back down and felt the tears start to creep up.

It was the first day, and he was already gonna go home.

"By the way, no one's going home today," Aizawa called.

Izuku's head snapped up. There were lots of complaints from the students.

"It was a logical rouse to make sure you were all trying your very best. If I had seen any one I didn't believe was worthy, I would've undoubtedly sent them home. But you all managed to impress me a little, and I saw potential in each of you. So no one's going home."

Izuku laughed, relieved. Other students, however, seemed to be somewhat frustrated at the flat out lie.

"You guys didn't figure it out?" He heard a girl with a black ponytail, Yaoyorozu, if he was correct, say.

Izuku looked down at his broken finger, blocking out the talking. He probably needed to go to recovery girl. But he wasn't going home.

Well, actually, he was, when schools over, but not permanently.

"Class is dismissed, you can all go home now, or stay, I don't care. You guys are getting off early though, because we skipped orientation." Aizawa called out tiredly, then left to go back towards the school.

Students were chattering all around him, a lot of them started back towards the school too. He moved to follow after them, but then he felt a hand on his shoulder.

He yelped and spun around to see Shoto behind him.

"Sh-Shoto! Y-you uh, sc-scared me," he lightly chuckled nervously, stepping out of Shoto's grip with his cold hand and looking down, not making eye contact.

Oh no, oh no, oh no! What's he gonna ask? Is it gonna be about my quirk? What will I say? How do I explain getting a quirk out of no where that looks nothing like mom or dads when I'm supposed to be quirkless?

"I see you still mutter," Shoto spoke, voice deep and calm. It honestly made Izuku jump even more. His voice was so different from everyone else he knew. So... empty.

Then he realized what he said. He felt his cheeks heat up and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "O-oh, did I say all that out l-loud? I-I'm sorry, I didn't m-mean too. Yeah, I-I do still have that bad habit, I-it's kinda hard to get r-rid of, though I'm not quite sure why. I-I think it just has to do with how I think, maybe? E-either way I-I'm sorry, I just, yeah. I'm rambling aren't I? Heh, I-i should probably stop now."

He held his breath, just barely peeking up to meet Shoto's eyes.

Shoto met his, still blank.

"It's alright. So, you have a quirk now?"

"O-oh, um, y-yeah, I-I do..."

"When did you get it?"

"Um, just before the en-entrance exam."

"How'd you get it?"

"Huh?"

"How did you get your quirk?"

Izuku gulped, feeling slight panic start to rise in his stomach. "I-i guess it just d-developed late."

Shoto glanced down at his shoes, the red ones, the same brand he'd worn since he was little, the only ones made to fit around the extra pinky toe joint that quirkless people had.

Izuku could feel sweat dripping behind his neck.

Shoto looked up at him again. "What is it?"

"H-huh?"

"Your quirk, what is it?"

"O-oh!" This he could answer. All Might had told him what to call it. "S-super strength."

Shoto raised an eyebrow. "Where'd you get that from?"

"N-not, sure, doctor said it could be a mutated quirk that you don't get from genetics."

"Hm," Shoto looked him up and down one more time. "Ok then." He then turned and walked off towards the school.

Izuku watched him walk off, surprised, keeping an eye on him until he disappeared inside. Then he practically collapsed with relief.

That was terrifyingly close.

Way too close.

They might not've been together much in the last decade, but they did live together. They did share the same dad. They did know each other when they were little.

And Shoto was smart.

And Izuku had a bad feeling he already knew too much.
