After much soul searching and repeated discussions with Xander, Giles decided to take the job. Bottom line, if the government really was going to hunt vampires and demons, he wanted to make sure, personally, that they remained true to their mandate.
Since Sunnydale already had a National Guard Base outside of Sunnydale, the Command commandeered it. The troops stationed there were moved to a reactivated base elsewhere. Learning from the Stargate Program's missteps, they took their time in establishing the Command. Procedures were locked down long before personnel were chosen. Then came the chosing of the actual personnel. Psych evals had to be gone over. The knowledge of these creatures existence could be very difficult to deal with. Finally Giles was able to begin teaching the personnel chosen and eventually they began to deploy to areas the military could go. Special investigators from the FBI and CIA were taught how to determine if a report was vampire or demon related. These groups operated within and without the U.S. Scientists were also chosen. They began what would be a very frustrating study of the rift in Sunnydale. The fact that physics seemed to take a flying leap around it was both fascinating and troubling. Answers would be a long time coming and science would need to advance. Technology procured thru the Stargate helped.
Xander and Cordelia continued their studies.
When Giles told Xander and Cordelia an actual Hell goddess was terrorizing the group and hunting something called simply the Key, they worried for their friends. It was while Giles was telling Xander how Willow and her girlfriend Tara had teleported the Hell goddess using Magic that Xander had an idea. He contacted the General in charge of the Demon Command and explained the situation and his idea. The General contacted the President, who agreed to try it.
One day a rifle fired a tracking tag at Glory and it caught on her dress. It immediately sent out an alert that allowed Earth's first spaceship to dematerialize her, hold her suspended mid transport and deposit her in the planet Jupiter. It seems to have worked since she hasn't been seen since and Jupiter stayed stable.
Xander completed his studies and earned a degree in Ancient History. He was granted a special commission with the rank of lieutenant in the Air Force and underwent the Stargate Training Program. He was then assigned to be SG 27's new translator. On a day nearly four years after learning he had a chance at an actual future, Lieutenant Alexander Harris finally stepped thru the Stargate and onto an alien world. As he breathed in a lungful of alien air and felt the heat of an alien sun, Alexander knew, his dream had come true. All thanks to a Halloween prank and the memories of a dead man.
