An Unexpected Reunion

Part 1

Chloe and Eevee were walking home from Chloe's day at school when they heard a cry. Both Chloe and Eevee stopped in their tracks. Chloe looked at Eevee.

"Did you hear that, Eevee?" She asked.

"Eevee." Eevee nodded. Chloe then frowned.

"It sounds sad. Let's go and see what it is." Eevee agreed with a nod. The two then ran to look for wherever the crying was coming from.

Eevee looked around. It then saw it. A baby Kangaskhan. Eevee went to him.

"Why are you crying?" Eevee wanted to know. The baby Pokémon stopped crying to look at her.

"I'm lost." He said. "I can't find my mommy. Do you know where she is?" Eevee frowned.

"Sorry, no I don't." She then smiled. "But don't worry. I'm sure my trainer and her friends can help. They're good at that sort of stuff." And so, Eevee did her Pokémon call to Chloe. Moments later, Chloe came.

"Did you find whatever or whoever was crying, Eevee?" She wanted to know. Eevee looked at her and nodded. Chloe then saw the baby Kangaskhan. "Aw, is that a baby Kangaskhan? What's it doing out here? Where is its mom? Shouldn't it be in her pouch?" She looked around.

"Hello!?" She called. "Mommy Kangaskhan? Your baby is here! Hello?!" She frowned and looked back at the baby Kangaskhan. "Poor thing! You must be lost." The baby frowned. She then smiled. "Well, no worries. I'm sure my dad and my friends can help. Can I pick you up, so I can take you to them?" The baby Kangaskhan looked at Evee who nodded, telling the baby that it was alright. The baby Kangaskhan looked back at the girl and nodded. Chloe picked it up. "Alright, let's go talk to my dad. Come on, Eevee!" Eevee agreed, and off they went.

When they neared Professor Cerise's lab, they saw both Ash and Goh. The two were both training their Pokémon. Goh was training Inteleon and Ash was training Dracovish. They were both training for Project Mew and The Masters Eight respectively. Ash noticed Chloe. The two trainers returned their Pokémon to their balls and went to her. Grookey and Pikachu did too and hopped up onto their trainer's shoulders.

"Hey, Chloe!" Ash greeted her. "How was school?"

"Don't ask her that, Ash." Goh told him. "It's just school. Nothing exciting ever happens at school."

"School was alright." Chloe answered. She was then mad at Goh. "And exciting stuff can happen at school. You just don't know that because you rarely go to school."

"Oof!" Ash put in. "She got you there, Goh."

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry." Goh apologized. "Did anything exciting happen at school?"

"Like I said before," Chloe told him. "It was alright, so not really."

"So, I didn't miss much. Cool then." Ash then saw the baby Kangaskhan in her arms.

"Hey, is that a baby Kangaskhan?" He asked.

"It sure is." Chloe replied. "It's lost and we don't know where its mom is. I came here to ask my dad if he can help."

"That's cool." Goh complimented. "I mean, it's not cool that it's lost and can't find its mommy. You know what I mean." Goh took out his phone and checked the Pokédex about Kangaskhan.

After Goh heard the Kangaskhan information, he put the Rotom Phone back away into his pocket and looked back at the baby Kangaskhan.

"I really hope it finds its mom soon." He stated. "It shouldn't be without her."

"That's why I'm going to ask Dad about it." Chloe told him. "If anyone knows where some Kangaskhan are, it's him."

"But will it be this little Kangaskhan's mom?"

"Only one way to find out."

"Then I'll go with you!" Ash volunteered. "Helping a Pokémon out is my specialty!"

"Pikachu!" Pikachu added.

"I'll go too." Goh also volunteered.

"Grookey!" Grookey said as well.

"Grookey will too!"

"That's so nice of you guys," Chloe began. "But what about you guys' training? The Masters Eight Tournament will start soon and you don't know when Project Mew will contact you next, do you, Goh? You need to be prepared."

"Don't worry about me, Chloe." Goh assured her. "I trained hard already. I could use a break and this just so happens to be the perfect opportunity to, by helping a Pokémon reunite with its parent! What could be better than that?"

"Goh's right." Ash agreed. My Pokémon has all trained hard too, so I, too, could use a break. So, let's go ask your dad where some Kangaskhan are." Chloe smiled and nodded.

"Okay, let's!" And so the children and Pokémon went off.

"You can find a lot of Kangaskhan right in this area in Kanto." Professor Cerise said as the hologram map showed the area of the Kangaskhan.

"So, that's where the Kangaskhan are." Ash observed. He then smiled. "We'll make it there in no time!"

"Yeah!" Goh agreed with excitement. "We sure will! Seeing all of those Kangaskhans and their babies will be so cool!" Chloe just smiled.

"But aren't you guys training for Project Mew and The Masters Eight respectively?" Professor Cerise asked.

"We are." Goh informed him. "But Ash and I both need a break. We figured this is the best time to do it." The professor smiled.

"Helping Pokémon in need? I say that's a great way to spend your time away from training!"

"Ash and I thought so too!"

"Well, don't let me keep you. You kids have fun! I hope you find the baby's mother." The kids all said farewell and were off with their Pokémon.

"Thanks, Dad!" Chloe called out.

"Look at all the Kangaskhan!" Ash observed as they saw some out the window of the bus that they were all on.

"I know!" An excited Goh said. "Wow! There's so many!" Chloe looked at the baby Kangaskhan.

"Do you see your mom?" She asked the Pokémon. The baby looked at her and sadly shook his head. Chloe frowned.

"Oh, that's too bad." She stated.

"Cheer up!" Ash told the baby. "The bus is moving pretty fast. Once we go there, you'll get a better view and hopefully you'll see your mom in no time." All of the Pokémon agreed. The baby Kangaskhan smiled, feeling renewed confidence.

"And despite me wanting to catch a Kangaskhan and more Pokémon we might come across," Goh began. "I won't because I know finding this Kangaskhan's mother is top priority." Ash smiled.

"That's right, Goh." He agreed. "You have to think of others first. You don't want to be selfish."

"Exactly! And you know what else?" Ash was confused.

"What?"

"Chloe and I saw a baby Kangaskhan before." He looked at her. "Remember, Chloe? It was when we were young kids at Professor's Oak Pokémon camp."

"Oh, yeah!" Chloe remembered. "We saw it fall off a cliff if I remember correctly."

"But then Mew saved it using Psychic!" Ash was impressed.

"So that's why your heart is set on getting Mew." Goh looked at Ash.

"Uh-huh! It's cute and awesome at the same time!" Ash smiled.

"It sure is, buddy!" He then was disappointed. "Aw, man! That one day my mom was out! Why did she expect a six-year old to be that independent? Well, to be fair, I wasn't much better a few years later for I was late on my 10th birthday too to get my very first Pokémon."

"Sorry, Ash. The early Pidgeotto gets the Caterpie. I can't help it if you keep on being irresponsible. We waited for you, you know." Ash laughed nervously.

"Yeah, sorry. I guess I have to get better at that." He then smiled. "But if I hadn't done that, I would have never met Pikachu. So, I guess it was a blessing in disguise, right, buddy?"

"Pikachu!" His partner agreed, happily.

As soon as the bus stopped at the bus stop, the trainers took off for the Kangaskhan field. Chloe looked down at the baby Kangaskhan.

"You might go home soon." She said to the baby Pokémon. The baby made his little happy Kangaskhan cry.

When they were in the field, Chloe placed the baby down on the ground. Grookey and Pikachu also both hopped to the ground.

"Go find your mama." Chloe told the baby. The baby nodded and started to look around. Grookey, Eevee and Pikachu ran off to play.

"Behave yourself, Grookery!" Goh called to the grass monkey.

"And you make sure that Grookey does!" Ash called to Pikachu.

"You too, Eevee!" Chloe called to her Pokémon as well.

"Hey, Pikachu and Eevee!" Grookey told the two. "Look!" It jumped into an unsuspecting Kangaskhan's pouch. "I'm a baby Kangaskhan!"

"Grookey, get out of there now!" Eevee scolded. "You can't hop into a random Kangaskhan's pouch like that!" Eevee looked at Pikachu. "Tell it, Pikachu!" But Pikachu was too distracted. He remembered being in a Kangaskhan's pouch when he was a Pichu. "Pikachu!" The electric rodent then snapped back into reality. He was now mad.

"Yeah, get out, Grookey!" He shouted.

"You better catch me first!" Grookey challenged and hopped out of the pouch. Pikachu and Eevee ran after the monkey, but not before Pikachu apologized to the Kangaskhan. Goh saw this. He sighed.

"Oh no!" He said to himself. "I knew Grookey would cause trouble and yet I let it go. Why?" He then yelled after his Pokémon."Grookey, no!" He ran after it. The grass monkey kept hopping into Kangaskhans's pouches, irritating them. Pikachu and Eevee kept on apologizing to each Kangaskhan that Grookey harassed. Goh was running after it each time too, trying to catch it.

"Grookey!" Goh shouted after it. "Stop that! Get back here!" He finally caught the mischievous monkey and sighed. "Oh, Grookey, what am I going to do with you?" Grookey just smiled and made a happy sound.

"Grookey is like a four-year-old." Ash observed. "So full of energy! It likes keeping Goh on his toes."

"Yeah." Chloe agreed, unimpressed. "And it unfortunately misbehaves like one too." Goh then saw and noticed all of the Kangaskhan looking mad. He screamed and bowed.

"I'm sorry for Grookey's behavior to each and every one of you." He apologized. "Please, don't attack it or me."

"Grookey!" Grookey just said with a playful and innocent smile. "I'm not! I had a blast!" Eevee then saw the baby Kangaskhan and walked over to him.

"Found your mom yet?" Eevee asked. The little Kangaskhan sighed.

"No." He said with a sigh. "To be honest, I don't think I'll ever…" He then saw a familiar Kangaskhan from the corner of his eye. He then lit up. "MOM!" He then ran to her. The mom saw this, smiled, and embraced her baby in a hug. The happy trainers and their Pokémon went to them as well.

"Well, would you look at that?" Ash observed, "It found its mom. I knew it would. Good for it!" Chloe just smiled.

"I'm glad." She put in. Eevee and Pikachu agreed. The Kangaskhan thanked the kids, but then when she noticed Pikachu, she brightened up.

"Pikachu!" She said with glee. "I can't believe it's really you! Do you remember me? I was that baby Kangaskhan all of those years ago. We were both in my mom's pouch together! You were a little Pichu." Pikachu looked at the Kangaskhan long and hard, then brightened up too.

"I can't believe it!" The electric rodent said. "It really is you! I don't know how I know it's you, but I just know!"

"I just know too." Kangaskhan said. "I guess you just know because you know, you know?" Pikachu nodded.

"I guess so." Ash knelt down to Pikachu.

"Do you know this Kangaskhan, buddy?" Ash asked him. Pikachu looked at him and nodded. Ash stood up and smiled. "That's awesome, buddy!"

"We came here to return a baby Kangaskhan to its mom," Goh stated. "…and it turns out to be a reunion between friends. How cool is that?"

"Imagine that!" Chloe put in. Ash looked at his friends.

"Goh? Chloe?" He said. "How about we give time for Pikachu and this Kangaskhan to reminisce?" Both Chloe and Goh nodded in agreement.

"Good idea!" Chloe said.

"Makes sense to me." Goh added. Ash looked at Pikachu.

"We'll be waiting for you buddy when you're done spending time with your friend." Ash said to his Pokémon. "You two have fun, okay?" Pikachu nodded. Ash, Chloe and Goh went off to a nearby tree. Grookey was about to go play some more when Goh, who had come back for the troublesome grass monkey, picked it up.

"Oh no!" He told Grookey. "You're not going to harass any more Kangaskhan." Grookey looked disappointed as Goh carried it off.

"So, you know my mommy?" The baby Kangaskhan wanted to know, Pikachu looked at the baby and nodded.

"I sure do! I met your mother when she was about your age!" Kangaskhan looked at her child.

"Why don't you go and play with that Eevee and Grookey for a while?" Her kid looked at her and nodded.

"Ok, Mommy, I will!" The little Kangaskhan then ran off. Kangaskhan looked at Pikachu.

"Let's go somewhere where we can talk." Pikachu nodded in agreement.

"Sounds good to me." Pikachu responded, The two Pokémon went off somewhere quiet to chat.

The two talked and talked. It was nearing sunset, but both Pikachu and Kangaskhan didn't care. They both liked each other's company after so long, and that was good enough for them. Kangaskhan then asked the question that she had been waiting so long to ask.

"Pikachu, why did you leave?" She wanted to know. Pikachu just looked at her. "Mama and I thought something bad happened to you. We were so worried." Pikachu frowned.

"I'm sorry I made you and your mom worry about me." The electric mouse apologized. "The truth is, I thought it was for the best at the time." Kangaskhan was confused,

"What do you mean?"

"By being there. I saw what it was doing with your mom, having two of us in the same pouch as we were growing bigger. It was draining her energy. It was exhausting for her. I didn't want to be a burden."

"You were never a burden." Kangaskhan told Pikachu.

"Oh. I'm glad then. Sorry I ran away from you and your mom. I now know I should never have done that without your and your mom's knowledge, but on the bright side, I met Ash and we have remained best friends ever since." He then saw Kangaskhan's expression and frowned. "You're still my friend, you know. Nothing will ever change that."

"I know. It's just that Mom and I missed you so much after you left."

"I missed you too."

Jessie, James and Meowth rode on their Meowth shaped balloon. They were above the field of Kangaskhan. This intrigued Meowth who was looking through a pair of binoculars.

"Jackpot!" A happy Meowth observed. "Look at all of those Kangaskhan down there!"

"Meowth," James, who wasn't looking, told him. "Please, don't give us false hope, especially Jessie. You know how she is."

"Yeah." Jessie, who also wasn't looking, agreed. "You know how I am." Meowth looked at the two and was mad.

"If you two idiots would just look instead of looking mopey, you guys will know what I mean!" James sighed.

"Please, don't call me an idiot, but very well, I'll look. But you better not be fibbing."

"I can promise you, Jimmy, that I ain't fibbing. There are really Kangaskhan down there. Go ahead, take a look." James looked out of the balloon from the binoculars he took from Meowth and couldn't believe it.

"Well, I'll be!" He observed. "Meowth was right! There are loads of Kangaskhan down there!"

"Told you!" Meowth told him. James looked at the talking cat Pokémon.

"Meowth, I'm sorry I ever doubted you. Please, forgive me."

"All is forgiven. Jimmy! As long as you believe me, that is all that matters." James looked at Jessie.

"Jessie," He began telling her. "Look at all of the Kangaskhan!" Jessie wasn't amused.

"James," She started talking to him. "Not you too. We have been up here for hours and haven't seen a single Pokémon."

"That may be, but things have changed. I'm telling you there's a whole lot of Kangaskhan down there. If you just look, you'll know what I mean." Jessie sighed.

"Very well, I'll look if it makes you happy, but you better not be lying."

"Oh, it will. It'll make me extremely happy and I can tell you 100% that I'm not lying." Jessie still wasn't convinced, but took the binoculars from him anyway.

"Whatever." She looked through the binoculars. She, too, couldn't believe her eyes. "Oooh- la-la! Look at all of the Kangaskhan! The boss will surely be happy!"

"Told you!" James said. Jessie looked mad at Meowth.

"Meowth, why didn't you tell me?" Meowth was dumbstruck.

"What?!" He asked. "I did." He got mad. "I'm the one who told both of you numbskulls!" He then calmed down. "But that doesn't matter now. The main thing is that we are all now on the same page about the Kangaskhan."

"Ugh!" Jessie complained, "Enough talk! Let's just steal those Pokémon and get out of here!"

"But, Jessie," James told her. "…the twerps are here."

"And what's your point? The twerps are always here when we come to steal Pokémon." Meowth turned to her.

"Hang on there, Jess. Maybe Jimmy is onto something." James was a little confused.

"I am?" He questioned.

"He is?" Jessie also asked.

"Yeah." Meowth said. "He is. Think of it. The twerps are always there whenever we try to steal precious and rare and valuable Pokémon. So I figure that might be the problem. If the twerps weren't always there, maybe we might stand a better chance."

"And what if we blast off due to stronger trainers and more powerful Pokémon?"

"That may be, but then we'll try again with more Pokémon and trainers. We should be able to find weak ones eventually."

"Uh, hello? Remember Pikachu, or have you forgotten?"

"I haven't forgotten. I just think maybe we need to steal a different Pikachu. This kid's Pikachu is just too tough. It must be level 9,000 by now. Why keep stealing from the same twerpy trainers and try for the same Pikachu with the same result when we could switch things up and maybe succeed, you dig?" Jessie was now mad.

"No, I don't 'dig'. I don't 'dig' at all! Do you even hear what you're saying right now? We need that specific Pikachu!"

"Why?"

"We just do, okay?!"

"That's not a good enough answer." Jessie groaned in frustration.

"That's good enough for me and that should be good enough."

"Maybe Meowth is right, Jess." James told her. "Switching things up might be good. Why don't we give it a chance?" Jessie glared at him and erupted with rage

"AM I THE ONLY ONE WITH A FUNCTIONAL BRAIN HERE?! WE NEED THAT PIKACHU AND THAT'S THAT!" James sighed and smiled nervously.

"When you're right, you're right. Can you ever forgive me?"

"What?!" A disbelieved Meowth asked. "I can't believe it. I…." He then sighed and he, too, laughed nervously, not wanting to argue any more. "You know what? Please forgive me too. I don't know what I was thinking. If that specific Pikachu will make the boss happy, then, so be it. Let's steal those specific Pokémon down there." Jessie smiled.

"Glad you two came to your senses. Now, let's stop talking about it. Stealing awaits!"

Both James and Meowth agreed. And with that, the balloon was piloted towards the Kangaskhan.

"Say, Goh?" Ash asked him. "Did you hear someone yell moments ago?"

"I sure did." Goh answered. "And it sounded awfully familiar."

"Well you two would know." Chloe pointed out. "You two are out more than me."

Just then, nets sprang out, capturing all of the Kangaskhan, including Pikachu. Grookey, Eevee, and the baby Kangaskhan cried out for their mom and new friends. Goh, Chloe and Ash ran to the Pokémon.

"PIKACHU!" Ash yelled.

"And all of the Kangaskhan!" Chloe put in. "Who would do this?"

"I bet I know." Goh put in.

"Me too." Ash agreed. Jessie, James and Meowth all laughed. Ash, Goh and Chloe all looked up at them and gasped.

"I knew that voice was awfully familiar." Goh said. "It's that no good, annoying, old hag, red-haired lady from Team Rocket!"
