The soft rustling of the curtain combined with the faint hum of New York City's morning traffic acted as a gentle lullaby. Vee stirred, feeling a warmth surrounding her, grounding her to the reality of the new world she was in. She cracked one eye open, her gaze meeting a sea of white—pillows, sheets, and the pale morning light filtering through the room.

And then, there was the familiar feeling of Masha's arms wrapped securely around her, their steady breathing rhythmic against her back. The realness of the situation started to seep in; they were no longer visitors to the city. This was their home. Their new beginning.

Vee shifted slightly, turning to face Masha. Their face was relaxed in sleep, a stark contrast to the past few weeks of packing, planning, and the exhaustive move. Even in sleep, there was a faint smile on Masha's lips. Vee couldn't resist reaching out to trace the familiar curves of Masha's face, her fingers gliding softly over their cheek.

Masha stirred under the gentle touch, their eyes fluttering open. For a brief second, there was confusion, but as their gaze settled on Vee, understanding and warmth replaced it.

"Good morning," Masha murmured, their voice husky with sleep.

Vee leaned in, brushing her lips softly against Masha's. "Morning," she whispered back. "Our first morning in our new home."

Masha chuckled softly, pulling Vee closer. "I had almost forgotten where we were for a moment," they admitted, looking around the spacious bedroom with its modern finishes and floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a breathtaking view of the city skyline.

"It's a bit surreal, isn't it?" Vee mused, resting her head on Masha's chest.

"It is," Masha agreed. "But it's also exciting. Think of all the adventures we're going to have here."

Vee's eyes sparkled with anticipation. "I can't wait. But for now, can we just savor this moment? Just a little longer?"

Masha smiled, tightening their hold on Vee. "Of course, my love," they whispered.

As the two continued to lay together, Vee's thoughts started to drift towards the newness of everything. She had grown accustomed to the quiet life in Gravesfield, and now they were in the heart of the most bustling city in the world. She gently played with Masha's fingers, interlocking them and then releasing, a thoughtful look in her eyes.

Masha, sensing her introspection, tilted Vee's chin up. "Penny for your thoughts?"

Vee smiled faintly. "Just thinking about how different everything is going to be now. The noise, the people, the pace of life... It's exhilarating but also a tad overwhelming."

Masha nodded in understanding. "I felt the same when we first decided on this move. But remember, we're in this together. Every new experience, every challenge... we'll navigate it side by side."

Vee sighed contentedly, "I know. It's just... this is such a big step."

"It is," Masha agreed, "But it's also an opportunity. We get to create new memories, establish new traditions, and maybe even find new favorite spots in the city."

Vee chuckled, "I am looking forward to finding the best pizza place."

Masha laughed, "Now that's the spirit!"

There was a brief pause, then Vee asked, "What are you most looking forward to?"

Masha pondered for a moment. "Honestly? Exploring the city with you. Finding hidden gems, whether it's a quaint coffee shop or a serene park amidst the skyscrapers. Just being able to share those moments with you."

Vee's heart swelled with affection. "That sounds perfect."

The two shared another tender moment, simply basking in each other's presence. Then, Vee sat up, stretching and taking in the panoramic view from their bedroom window. The sun was casting a golden hue over the buildings, and the streets below were starting to come alive with activity.

"I think it's time we officially greet the city," Vee declared with newfound enthusiasm.

Masha sat up as well, grinning. "First order of business?"

"Breakfast," Vee stated definitively. "And not just any breakfast. I want a classic New York bagel." She leaned in, her lips hovering just above Masha's, then whispered, "Let's see if the city lives up to its reputation."

Masha chuckled softly, "Sounds like a plan," Vee closed the small gap, bringing their lips together in a soft, sweet, relaxed kiss that said, 'I love you more than there are atoms in the universe.'

Vee stood at the entrance of the subway station, her eyes widening at the streams of people flowing in and out. The vibrant energy, the myriad of accents echoing off the tiled walls, and the unmistakable rumble of trains – it was a symphony of organized chaos.

Masha caught Vee's hand, offering an assuring squeeze. "First subway ride together. You ready?"

Vee nodded, swallowing her slight trepidation. "As ready as I'll ever be,"

They made their way to the ticket machines, purchasing a pair of MetroCards. As Vee examined the colorful subway map above the platform, she turned to Masha with a playful smirk. "You sure you know where we're going?"

Masha laughed, pointing out their route. "Trust me, it's not as complicated as it looks. We're taking the 6 train downtown."

Soon enough, the familiar sound of the subway car approaching reverberated through the station. As the doors hissed open, they were met with a medley of commuters: an older man playing the saxophone, a woman engrossed in her book, a group of tourists with cameras around their necks, and a young mother juggling her child and grocery bags.

Finding a spot by the door, Masha held onto the overhead bars, while Vee wrapped her arms around Masha's torso, resting her head against their chest. The train jerked into motion, and Vee couldn't suppress a small gasp. Masha grinned, pressing a soft kiss to Vee's hairline. She pulled her head back to meet Masha's brown eyes with a look of apprehension, Masha responded by pressing a tender kiss to Vee's lips, whispering, "It gets smoother, promise."

As the subway made its stops, Vee began to relax, observing the dynamic slice of life each station presented. There were the corporate warriors in their suits at Wall Street, the budding artists around Astor Place, and the clusters of NYU students at 8th Street.

After a few stops, they disembarked at Bleecker Street. Following the signs, they climbed the stairs back to the surface. The scent of fresh bagels hit them almost immediately.

"There it is," Masha pointed to a modest-looking shop with a neon sign – 'Moe's Corner Eatery'. The queue stretched out the door, but neither seemed to mind. It was all part of the experience.

As they waited, Vee turned to Masha. "Any recommendations?"

Masha hummed thoughtfully. "Classic cream cheese is always a good place to start. But they're known for their lox bagel too."

"Lo... Lox?" Vee tried the unfamiliar word.

"It's a bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, and other tasty tidbits,"

Vee's eyebrows raised, mouth watering at the thought. "I think I'll have one of each. Oh, and a black coffee."

They chatted animatedly about their subway adventure, the sights and sounds they'd encountered, and their hopes for future city explorations. Soon, they reached the counter, placing their orders and receiving a tray laden with mouthwatering delights.

Finding a window seat, they took in the bustling New York street scene as they enjoyed their breakfast. The bagels were, as promised, out of this world. Crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside, and bursting with flavor.

Vee took a moment to savor her first bite. "This... this is divine. I think I could get used to this city life."

Masha chuckled, taking a sip of their iced latte. "Told you. And this is just the beginning. Wait 'till you try the pizza,"

As the morning rolled on, the two lost themselves in conversation, watching as New York hustled and bustled around them. It was a simple morning, but it was filled with the promise of countless more to come in their shared journey in the city that never sleeps.
