Lyney's POV
In Hotel Bouffes d'ete, Lynette and I walked up to Freminet as he tinkered with something.
"Greetings, Freminet", I said, getting his attention.
"Oh", he started. "Hi guys. Is there something that you needed?"
"Your birthday is coming up", Lynette pointed out. "So we wanted to know if there was anything that you wanted?"
"Oh", Friement started, suddenly becoming nervous. "Thank you, but I'm fine."
"Oh come on now", I started. "There's must be something that you want?"
It was a mistake to ask this. As soon as I did…Freminet looked down as his eyes become downcast.
"Something I want", he repeated. "What I want is…"
Freminet didn't finish his sentence, and he looked like he was about to cry.
"I…", he started. "I'm sorry. I need to go now."
With this, Freminet quickly got up and rushed out of the room.
Then, I thought over my words…and soon realised what I had said wrong.
""I'm an idiot", I stated. "The thing Freminet likely wants the most is…"
"His mother", Lynette finished, before putting her hand on my shoulder. "It was an honest mistake, Lyney."
"But now I've gone and made things worse", I stated, before sighing in frustration. "Every year, Freminet spends his birthday alone at the bottom of the ocean. I…I just want him to be happy on his birthday for once."
"So do I", Lynette said. "But what can we do?"
After hearing this, I began thinking.
"There's something on the ground", Lynette said.
Then, she leaned down and picked the item up.
"Wait a minute", I started. "Isn't that the pendant Freminet always carries with him?"
"It is", Lynette replied. "He must've dropped it when he left."
After Lynette said this, Freminet suddenly rushed back into the room.
"You guys", he started frantically. "I think I dropped…"
"Here it is", Lynette revealed as she held the pendant up.
"Thank you so much", Freminet said with relief before grabbing the pendant from Lynette.
"That pendant", she started. "It belonged to your mother, correct?"
"Y…yeah", Freminet replied sadly.
"And it's a music box pendant", Lynette added.
"Y…yes", Freminet replied. "But, it doesn't work anymore. I've tried tinkering with it, but no matter how much I try…I can't get it to play music anymore."
"That's a shame", Lynette stated. "What song would it play?"
"I…don't know what song it was", Freminet replied. "I only vaguely remember what it sounded like."
"Could you hum it for us", Lynette asked.
"H…hum it", Freminet asked, suddenly becoming very nervous.
"Yes", Lynette replied. "Perhaps I'll know what the song is?"
"Well", Freminet started. "Okay. I'll…I'll hum it."
With that, Freminet took a nervous deep breath. Then…he softly hummed a tune as Lynette listened closely.
"W…well", he asked nervously when he was done.
"That was a very lovely tune", Lynette stated. "However, that song does not appear to be in my memory database."
"I don't recognise it either", I added.
"Oh", Freminet started sadly. "I see. Thank you anyway."
With that, Freminet suddenly rushed off again.
As I watched him leave…an idea came to mind.
"Lynette", I started. "I have an idea."
"You want to find out what the song the pendant would play is", Lynette asked.
"Yes", I replied. "Perhaps finding out what the song was could bring at least a bit of happiness to Freminet on his birthday."
