Prelude – Tales
There are many stars in the sky. Separated by the empty blackness of the Void, their light still crosses the gap of time and eons to shine upon each other. Some watch their glow and dream. Others read their course and chart the future.
Sometimes, through chance or coincidence, two stars meet. What happens, then? What happens when two people from two different worlds cross path? The answer varies. Sometimes, conflict arises. Other times, curiosity prevails.
Some stars are more alike than the others. Once upon a time, there was a world full of life and wonder, where people could weave the fabric of reality at will. Then, one day, an otherworldly sound turned their magic against them, and the wonderful world was turned from a paradise to a hell. Through a terrible sacrifice, the people lived. And yet, they couldn't take the sight of their broken world. So, they sought to restore their paradise through more sacrifices. One woman opposed them. She became a goddess and split the world fourteenfold, to teach its now-weakened people how to endure suffering and accept sorrow as a part of life. For no paradise is without its shadows.
Once upon a time, there was a world where Man and Spirit walked side by side. They fought together for the entertainment of all, and those duels brought many smiles to people's faces. But, one day, a Duelist went mad with bloodlust. He fused with his Spirit partners and became a god of destruction. One woman stood before him. To stop his rampage, she split his soul fourfold, and so was the world sundered too.
One day, a terrible cataclysm connected two shards of those worlds. What happened, then? Was there conflict or curiosity?
The answer is… curiosity.
One day, a ten-year-old boy called Yugo found a tunnel between his native Synchro Dimension and the Source of Etheirys, then known as Hydaelyn. Born from the world-breaking rampage of the Dreadwyrm Bahamut, the tunnel connected the two fragments. On the other side, Yugo found a world of magic and wonder and saw dragons. So, he told his friends. And the people of the Commons, who lived in slums under a metal sky, saw a chance at a new life.
Some left. Some stayed. Those who left befriended the dragons and built a new life for themselves at the bottom of the sacred mountain Sohm Al. Yugo and his friend, Rin, were among them.
When he was ten, Yugo discovered Etheirys. When he was fifteen, he met the Warrior of Light, Jonathan Solwright, as he sought to end the Dragonsong War. When he was sixteen, he followed him to a world of endless daylight and all the way to the edge of the universe, to put an end to the Song of Oblivion. And, as the story reached its final chapter and the Knight in Black, Golbez, fell at last, it seemed the Legend of the Warrior of Light had reached an end.
With one story's ending, doth a new begin.
But there was another broken world to save.
