Chapter One: Cutie Blossom Bash
"Are you okay Misty?" Alexis asks as the group is riding in the Mare Stream as Misty stumbles slightly.
"Oh yeah! I'm just... Oh! ...still finding my balance!" Misty says as she smiles.
"The Mare Stream can take some getting used to! At least we're taking you on a secret surprise adventure! Are you excited?" Sunny asks as everyone looks at Misty.
"Oh yeah! Definitely! Uh so um... what is it?" Misty asks curiously.
"We are going... to Zephyr Heights for the annual Equestria Cutie Blossom Bash!" Sunny says as the group happily cheers.
"You'll love it." Pipp says happily.
"Cutie Blossom Bash? What is that?" Misty asks curiously.
"It's only the cutest springtime celebration of all that is fresh and new. I'm talking flowers, blossoms, bunnies, fashion. The looks you will see Misty. The looks." Pipp says happily.
"But more importantly it's an official ceremony and celebration for all of the ponies that have gotten their new Cutie Marks that year." Hitch says.
"It's kind of like a day of honor." Alexis says as she looks at Misty.
"Yeah. And it's kinda cool how we're finally combining the tradition we've all grown up with." Zipp says as Izzy squeals in excitement.
"I love the Blossom Bash! It's so springy! See? I've already crafted seven flower corsages. I only need to make a few hundred more." Izzy says as she shows Misty her creation.
"A few hundred?!" Misty asks in alarm.
"Yeah! For all the ponies who are going to cheer you on!" Pipp says as the group cheers happily before they see a large storm cloud.
"Quick turn!" Hitch shouts.
"I got this." Zipp says as she makes a sharp turn causing the group to stumble slightly as she avoids the cloud.
*Timeskip*
"What's wrong Hitch?" Alexis asks as she notices Hitch isn't looking very happy.
"Thinkin' about Sparky again?" Izzy asks as she walks over.
"Yeah. Ever since his run-in with Opaline he's been so tired. I didn't wanna drag him all the way to Zephyr Heights but I miss him." Hitch says.
"Well at least he's resting with Grandma Figgy!" Izzy says.
"Yeah Hitch. Sparky will be alright until we get back." Alexis says.
"You're right. Grandma is the best at making anypony feel better." Hitch says.
"See? Sparky is in great hooves! You just gotta get your mind off things." Izzy says.
"I know how we can do that! Let's go around and share our Cutie Marks stories with Misty! I'll go first. Back when I was a little filly I didn't have many friends. But my dad always said when life gives you lemons make lemonade and sell it to raise money for the library. So I did! My lemonade was a hit! I sold almost every cup right away. But two ponies wanted the last one. They started arguing but then I stepped in to help. They realized they were fighting for no reason! That's when my Cutie Mark appeared! My dad told me it's because I helped those ponies put aside their differences. He was so proud. That spring I got to trot the stage in our Cutie Blossom Bash. Ah it's one of my favorite memories." Sunny says happily as she and the others go around telling about how they got their cutie marks before they all look at Alexis.
"Your turn Alexis." Hitch says.
"Sure. I got my cutiemark when I was pretty young. Back when I was still living with my birth family actually. When I was little I used to run everywhere with the other pups in the pack. But one day we got separated from the pack and got lost. The others I got lost with began fighting over who's fault it was but I managed to get them to stop and got them to agree to let me try leading us back to the territory. I had remembered my mom's trick she taught me when I wasn't sure where I was to check for anything familiar. As we kept walking I found more things I recognized from our territory and managed to get us all back safely by the next morning. I got my cutiemark because I was able to lead and help when those around me needed me. I've always been good at leading and helping others. But that one situation really helped that to shine and it got me my cutiemark." Alexis says happily as she smiles.
"Wow great stories! But um... they all ended with a big event where you had to stand in front of a lot of ponies?" Misty asks nervously.
"Yep! Now it's your turn to do the same. And it's going to be the biggest most-grand one yet! Look!" Sunny says as the group sees they've arrived in Zephyr Heights.
"Aren't you so thrilled?" Pipp asks excitedly.
"Um! It's all so new." Misty says as she looks down causing Alexis to look at her before the group lands and gets out to see Queen Haven and Cloudpuff waiting to greet them.
"My angels! You've arrived! I was so worried I nearly had to send Cloudpuff to track you down again! I'm thrilled to have you here but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm a teensy bit stressed." Queen Haven says as she goes over to Pipp and Zipp.
"A problem with the crystals again?!" Zipp ask in alarm.
"Oh stars no. It's just spring showers. But if it rains then everything will be ruined!" Queen Haven says sadly.
"I can most certainly help with that." Hitch says.
"Me too. We're problem-solving pros!" Zipp says as she goes over to Hitch.
"Really? You'd do that for me?" Queen Haven asks in surprise.
"Of course. We promise to make sure this event runs seamlessly and that everything is as right as rain. Uh... or not-rain in this case." Hitch says as he smiles reassuringly.
"Ah thank hoofness! Follow me." Queen Haven says as the group begins following her.
*Timeskip*
"Here you'll find our giant springtime floral arrangements as well as our baby duck nursery. Oh and our Zephyr Bites appetizers! Clever huh? I didn't come up with that one. Cloudpuff did! What do you think girls? I am devoted to making this the best Cutie Blossom Bash ever. Especially for your darling new friend Misty. Guards! Prepare for Misty's Cutie Mark debut. This is going to be one fun-packed pony-filled social event!" Queen Haven says as the group is walking down the hallway before leaving Alexis and Misty as the last two to follow.
"Misty you feeling okay? You look um well like you're gonna throw up." Alexis says as she looks at a nervous Misty.
"Oh yeah. I'm great. I'm so excited." Misty says as she gives a fake smile as Alexis looks at her before the two follow the others into a room where Pipp and Izzy begin giving Misty a mane and tail make over.
"Hmm... We could go a little brighter don't you think dear?" Queen Haven asks after Izzy and Pipp dye Misty's hair to a purple and orange ombre color.
"You're so right Mom." Pipp says before Alexis goes over to Misty.
"Misty is something bothering you? I've noticed you haven't seemed very excited since we told you about all of this." Alexis says as Misty looks at her.
"Oh... uh... I'm just worried about what's going on back home. I mean back at Opaline's!" Misty says as Sunny walks over.
"Oh we understand. Luckily we have more Cutie Blossom activities that focus entirely on you! That should get your mind off it! Hey Alexis help me with these baskets please?" Sunny asks as she begins to follow the others out the door.
"Sure. Be right there." Alexis says as the others leave.
"Alexis I'm fine. Really. You don't have to worry about me." Misty says as Alexis looks at her concernedly.
"Are you sure?" Alexis asks.
"Positive!" Misty says as she smiles.
"Well okay. If you're sure. But one more thing though. I love your new look. It looks really good on you. Not that I didn't like your old look. But don't worry Misty. You'll be fine." Alexis says as she leaves to follow after Sunny.
*Timeskip*
"I remember your Cutie Blossom Bash like it was yesterday." Queen Haven says as the group is watching a video of a younger Zipp and Pipp as they are in the hallway.
"I just wanna pick them up and squeeze them!" Izzy shouts excitedly as she hugs Misty.
"We were so cute." Pipp says happily.
"You still are." Queen Haven says as she, Alexis, Pipp, Zipp and Sunny begin to walk off before Izzy and Misty come walking quickly up to the group to catch up before the group walks into a room filled with young ponies who are celebrating their cutiemarks before they begin to leave Misty with Queen Haven and the other young ponies.
"You noticed she's acting a little off too didn't you?" Alexis asks as she walks beside Izzy.
"Yeah. But I think she'll be alright. It's normal to be nervous. But once she gets out there with the other ponies she'll be fine." Izzy says.
"If you say so." Alexis says as she walks off with Izzy and the others.
*Timeskip*
"Ah! What? What is it?! Are we under attack?!" Misty asks in alarm as the group hears a horn blaring outside.
"No Misty! It's your big day! The Cutie Blossom Bash! Yippee! Time to get ready. Aren't you buzzing?!" Sunny asks as she screams excitedly as she and Alexis look at Misty from the doorway before going to get the others as they later go to see Misty and see she is ready to go on with the other ponies.
"Wow! Misty! You look amazing." Alexis says as she smiles at Misty causing her to blush slightly.
"Thanks Alexis." Misty says as she smiles.
"Oh my hoofness! Misty! You are the picture of spring! A vision in florals, an ode to the beauty of the butterfly!" Pipp says excitedly.
"You're gonna stick out. In a good way." Izzy says as she smiles.
"Here it goes." Sunny says as the group walks Misty down to the line of the young ponies as they watch her get up to the doors before she stops and uses her magic to close them.
"Misty what's wrong? You gotta go on. It's time." Alexis says as she goes over to Misty.
"Ah! I can't do this. It's all too much." Misty says in alarm before the others come over.
"What?" Sunny asks in surprise.
"Wait! I need to confess something." Misty says.
"I knew it!" Zipp says.
"It's not about Opaline." Misty says.
"Oh." Zipp says.
"This is about... me. The truth is I... can't go out there!" Misty says in alarm.
"What? Is it the outfit? We can change it!" Pipp says.
"No, no! It's perfect. It's all perfect." Misty says.
"Guys Misty can't go on because she's too nervous and shy about all of this. Isn't that right Misty?" Alexis asks as she looks at Misty who reluctantly nods.
"Alexis is right. But ever since I got here I haven't felt... comfortable. All these ponies and all this fuss over me." Misty says.
"Wait you don't like that?" Pipp asks in surprise.
"No. All this Cutie Blossom Bash stuff has made me feel so not me. I may be smiling but this is what I really feel like." Misty says as she makes an unhappy face.
"Oh wow yeah. That looks unhappy." Izzy says.
"I don't wanna trot across that stage with all those eyes on me. I don't want the spotlight! I just wanna be Misty. But if I don't pretend then everypony will know the truth about me. That I'm... shy." Misty says as she looks down sadly.
"Oh Misty. We just wanted to celebrate your new Cutie Mark!" Sunny says as she smiles.
"I know I should be proud of it and I am but I don't wanna do this. I've been so scared to tell you because you were all so excited. I'm sorry. I should've been honest. I've ruined everything!" Misty says sadly.
"Misty... You haven't ruined anything at all. We are the ones who should be sorry. We got so caught up in trying to make this moment special for you we forgot to ask along the way if this is what you even wanted. That's what good friends would've done." Sunny says as she goes up to Misty.
"Thank you for understanding. I'm still learning about friendship." Misty says.
"And so are we. Every day." Izzy says.
"Maybe we can celebrate in another way? One that is more comfortable for you." Alexis says as she smiles softly at Misty.
*Timeskip*
"And next we have... Seashell!" An announcer says as the group is watching the young ponies.
"Thank you ponies. For the first time in a long time I feel... happy. Probably about as happy as Seashell feels right now." Misty says happily.
"We're glad you're happy Misty." Alexis says as she smiles at Misty before Zipp comes over.
"Okay. Talked to Mom. She's totally cool with it." Zipp says.
"Yes!" Pipp says happily.
"Cool with... what?" Misty asks curiously.
"A special surprise. That we promise doesn't involve any other ponies, preparations, or primping. Just us!" Pipp says as the group heads out to the garden.
"Hey! This is the place from the video! It's beautiful. But why are we here?" Misty asks confusedly.
"We wanted to do something cool to mark your big day in a small way. This is one of the saplings I've been singing to I mean nurturing for a while. And now it's yours. It represents you growing into the pony you were meant to be." Pipp says as she brings over a tree sapling and sets it next to a hole in the ground.
"Now your sparkle can take roots!" Izzy says.
"Woo! Like mine!" Pipp shouts happily as she flies up to a tree.
"And mine." Zipp says as she flies over to another tree.
"So... what do you say?" Sunny asks.
"Is this alright Misty?" Alexis asks.
"I love it! It'll be a long time before my tree catches up to yours!" Misty says happily.
"Maybe it doesn't have to..." Sunny says as she hands Misty her cutiemarks flag pole as Misty plants her tree.

But there's one more thing I've been wanting to tell you. And yes this time it does have to do with Opaline." Misty says as the group uses their cutiemarks and earth pony abilities to grow the tree.
"I knew it!" Zipp says.
"Opaline hasn't been defeated yet. Not even close." Misty says as the group looks at her in shock.
"That can't be true. You saw what happened in the lair!" Sunny says in disbelief.
"Yes. But she's more powerful than you know. And now she has Sparky's dragonfire magic too. Opaline won't stop until she has all the power of Equestria! But I think I know how to help." Misty says.
"How?!" Alexis asks.
"It'll be hard to guess her next move. Opaline is unpredictable and mysterious. Except to somepony who knows her. Somepony who can be near her." Misty says.
"Misty no! You can't go back there. What if she catches you?" Alexis asks concernedly.
"I have to go back to Opaline and pretend to be on her side. It's the only way. Twilight Sparkle's enchanted invisibubble can only keep Opaline out of Equestria for so long! I can act as a double-agent by giving you all the information I learn." Misty says.
"That does not feel like the safest option Misty." Hitch says.
"I agree. You can't go!" Zipp says.
"It is risky. But this is what I want to do. What I can do to help. At least now I'll have best friends to get me through." Misty says as she smiles at the others.
"We'll be by your side. Always." Izzy says as the group hugs Misty before it begins to rain.
"Ah! My mane!" Pipp shouts as she screams and runs inside causing the others to laugh and follow her inside.
