Chapter 4

Elizabeth and Rose stood in the dark room of Beckett's office.

Rose held onto the forms that Beckett needed.

"Are you sure about this?" Elizabeth asked quietly.

"This is the only way." She whispered back to her sister.

The light comes on from Beckett lighting a lamp.

He noticed that the case with the letters of marque in it was empty. A small smirk came to his lips. "No doubt, you've discovered that loyalty is no longer the currency of the realm, as your father believes."

The two sisters came out of the shadows.

"Then what is?" Elizabeth questioned staying close to her sister.

"Currency is the currency of the realm."

"I expect, then, we can reach an understanding. I am here to negotiate."

Beckett smiled looking over at the two sisters. "I am listening."

Elizabeth pulled out the pistol pointing it at Beckett.

"I'm listening intently."

"You haven't raised an alarm." Rose said, looking at him as Elizabeth laid out the letters of marque onto the desk.

"These letters of Marque. They are signed by the King but blank."

"And not valid until they bear my signature and seal."

"Or else my sister and I wouldn't still be here."

"And what do you think you have to offer me, young ladies?"

"Information." Elizabeth said firmly, looking at Beckett. "You sent Will to get the compass owned by Jack Sparrow. It will do you no good."

"Do explain."

Elizabeth lowered her pistol. "I have been to Isle de Muerta. I have seen the treasure myself. There is something you know."

"Ah. I see. You think the compass points only to Isle de Muerta. And so you hope to save me from an evil fate. I am afraid you are mistaken, Miss Swann. I care not for cursed Aztec Gold. My desires are not so provincial." Becket moved to a huge world map. "There is more than one chest of value in these waters. SO perhaps you wish to enhance your offer…"

Rose grabbed the pistol from her sister and cocked it. "Consider into your calculations that you robbed my sister of her wedding night." Rose gestured to the letters.

Beckett moved towards them and signed and affixed his seals. "So I did. A marriage is interrupted or Fate intervenes. You are making a great effort to ensure Sparrow's freedom." He said as he extended the letters.

Elizabeth reached for one. "These are not going to Jack."

Beckett's hold didn't waver from the letters. "Really. To ensure Mr. Turner's freedom then. But what of you, your sister, and Jack? And what of me? I'll still want the compass. Consider that in your calculations." He released the letters.

"Come on Elizabeth." She said softly, gesturing to her sister to move.

The two sisters went to move.

"And Rose."

Rose slowed down knowing that this wasn't a good sign.

"You look good from the last time I saw you. Still thinking about the proposal?" He said his lips twitching in a smirk.

Rose's blood ran cold.

"You know I can't quite let go of what you did. Declining my proposal. Still doing that?"

"I will never be your bride." She said quickly following her sister out of the office knowing that she needed to get away as quickly as possible.

The two sisters disappeared into the night like ghosts into the shadows over Port Royal.

Rose hid behind one of the crates. "We need to get onto a ship." She said before moving slowly to grab some clothing.

"What are you doing?" Elizabeth questioned softly watching her sister beginning to get out of the gown that she was wearing.

"Well in order to get where we need to go, we have to blend in… I only see one set of male clothing sitting out right now… meaning we have to find some for you and quickly." Rose said as she shimmied out of her gown. She got the rest of her clothes off before slipping on the male attire. She took a breath as she finished by putting a bandana on her head covering some of her hair. She looked at her sister. "Well I suppose this will do for now." Rose admitted softly.

Elizabeth nodded her head.

"Let's move quickly and find you something to wear. And then we will be well on our way."

Elizabeth took a breath. "What did Beckett say to you after I left the room?" She asked softly wondering why her sister was beginning to act like a caged animal. Was it something that shook her sister to her core?

"Beckett wanted me to think about his marriage proposal."

"And did you give him an answer?" Elizabeth questioned softly hoping that her sister didn't say yes to the proposal.

"Lizzy, I'm not that stupid to accept another man's proposal when my fiance is still out there god knows where." Rose said softly looking out towards the dark sea of the Atlantic. She wouldn't give up hope that James was still out there and was very much alive. That was the only hope that she had been holding onto for quite a while. She wasn't about to lose everything in thinking that James was dead.

"Rose, we haven't heard from any of the men that went after Jack…"

"I'm not giving up hope on him being alive."

"I shan't blame you for wanting to believe he is still out there…"

"You're thinking the same way I would if you were in my spot if it was with Will."

They made their way towards the dock slowly.

Rose looked at the names of the back of the ships. She pursed her lips in thought as she tossed her sister some clothes to wear. "This ship…"

"What about it?" Elizabeth questioned looking at her sister.

"It's leaving at first light."

"How do you know that?"

"Because no ship would be this silent unless they were getting ready to leave." Rose pointed out. "Plus it is a merchant ship. Which means we can get to Tortuga which will probably be their first stop before going out to sea. Perhaps we can find Jack and Will."

Elizabeth nodded her head in hopes that her sister was right.
