CHAPTER 47

Elizabeth said goodbye to Bill and Charlotte and said she was going to see her family; Everyone was looking forward to the family reunion.

She walked away, but with every step she took someone stopped her, talked to her and hugged her. Everyone was very affectionate and careful with her.

— Bill... I think my Jack will have a big problem.

— Which Charlotte?

— He will have to share his wife with the entire city. She attracts people like a bee to honey.

Laughing Bill, sane might agree and he himself would be one of the people in that line of affection.

Bill noticed when at a certain moment, leaving the store, a man in uniform came out with his head down, it was Frankison.

Elizabeth was near the cafe, and as if she felt something calling her, she turned and those two looked at each other at the same time.

For Bill and Charlotte it seemed as if time had stopped. At that moment, Jack was arriving at the police station with a sergeant; he tied the animal there, and also saw his wife's reaction. He didn't know what to do, that's when they saw Lieutenant Frankison running down the stairs of the mercantile, and Elizabeth was also running crying and when everyone noticed, she already had her arms around his neck and he was spinning her around like a child. They didn't see anyone, they had found each other after years of distance and for them the rules of society were worthless now.

—Bill, did you ever imagine a Mountie lieutenant acting like that?

— Jack, I never thought. But seeing Superintendent Wynn Delane, crying, hugging her, as I did today, was unbelievable. If someone told me, I would never believe it.

Frankison placed her on the floor, they examined each other from head to toe and laughed. They were the same... only the color of their eyes changed, his as green as an emerald and hers as blue as the ocean. Frankison's hair was always well cut due to his profession, but if he let it grow a little it would have the same curl that she had.

It was beautiful to see how they admired each other, it seemed like they were looking into a mirror.

— Look, Bill! Not even in school books, in my life as a teacher, have I ever read anything about cousins who look so similar.

— I know Charlotte, and I hope my instincts are wrong. But I think William Thatcher has been doing bad things to this family for a long time.

Frankison and Elizabeth went to Henry Gowen's house, where they all had a nice breakfast. Wynn and Aunt Elizabeth looked at those two young people, their hearts full of love. Those two were like half of each other.

Henry asked Wynn if they were always like this when they met, because the two had a lot of affinity.

And to Henry's surprise, when he found out that they hadn't seen him for almost twelve years. But they had enormous chemistry; There was no shortage of topics with them... they talked about everything from when they were children, about their professions, and about their love life. Frankison, knew that Elizabeth was married and in love with Jack, and he noticed that she spoke about her husband with a lot of love, and so he made it very clear that he approved of that marriage very much.

But Henry saw the look in Elizabeth's eyes, when she discovered that he had never been in love... Henry shook his head and smiling, thought... "I know what you're going to do, Elizabeth; I know that look... Poor Frankison, he'll go to bed single and wake up married, if it's up to Elizabeth."

Jack arrived to pick up his wife, he needed to take her to rest or she would be walking and jumping all over the city.

He felt all her joy in being with them, and saw that she and Frankison had the same jokes, the same gestures and even the same way of touching their hair.

Jack, Wynn and Henry noticed something else: "When one touched his hair, the other did the same, but at the same time, and they didn't seem to notice it."

Jack said goodbye to the family, telling them that the girl needed to lie down and take her medicine, but that they would all have dinner together at the cafe that night.

Bill reluctantly let Tom go... The boy, without understanding anything, started talking when he saw his mother there with Bill.

— Mom, what did you do? I made a mistake, I have to pay.

— I also agree with you. And I really didn't do anything Tom and I wouldn't. Charlotte said, looking into his eyes.

Tom saw his mother's disappointment there, she also expected him to pay for his crime.

Bill, he grumbled in a bad mood...

— Sign here and get out of my way; for me you would rot in a cell, for all the evil, for all the pain you caused Elizabeth.

—But Bill... I say, Mr. Judge, I don't understand, why are you letting me go?

— I don't understand either, how some people can have such a kind and gentle heart, even after going through all that.

- There is? Tom didn't understand anything.

— Yes... Tom Thorton, that woman full of bruises who left here earlier today, didn't press charges against you, she knows that without a complaint I can't keep you trapped here.

— She what? How could she do this to me, after all the wrong I've done? Tom was more than surprised.

— I also said that I had a daughter. She said she gained a brother and wouldn't let him go to prison if he was sorry.

So son... now go out and see if you learn something good from Elizabeth's act. Maybe your heart can be better after experiencing this kindness and love she gave you without asking for anything in return.

Tom left and went with Charlotte to Bill's house, where they were staying.

Bill was already preparing himself, because when Jack found out that Tom was free, he would turn into a wild animal.

And it was that night. Elizabeth had told Charlotte that it would be a family dinner, as Rose, Lee, Henry and Bill were her family, in addition to the entire Delane family, she and Tom should also attend, even with all the problems they were family. Charlotte tried to question and give her opinion, but found herself in a losing battle. Everyone in that place was shocked to see Tom free. Bill lowered his head and eyes, as Jack was staring at him.

— Bill? May I know, why is he free?

— He doesn't owe anything, Jack, and that's why he's free. Bill said dryly, as he didn't like it either.

— How shouldn't Bill? He helped, he was an accomplice in my wife's kidnapping. And because of him, she is all hurt. Jack was screaming and at the moment he seemed blind with rage.

Wynn and Frankison were already standing, because if they needed to, they would hold Jack as Elizabeth had asked. They didn't agree with her attitude, but no one was able to convince her otherwise.

— I can't do anything Jack. It's the law.

— I won't let him loose. He has to pay for his crimes... Jack's face was red with anger. Bill, I've never seen him like that.

—Jack Thornton! Look at me. And when he turned around, his wife was there with her angriest teacher face, hands on her hips and stamping her right foot on the floor. He knew she was about to explode at any moment, but she was the most beautiful and charming image that could exist on the face of the earth. Jack smiled and his eyes softened, his face was no longer so closed.

— I ordered him to release Jack Thorton. I am the victim, I decide what to do. I have not and will not file a complaint against the law. Everyone was surprised, including Wynn who tried to question her, but heard her say:

— It is my final decision, Jack Thorton. He will learn from his mistakes and see the consequences, and until I improve this broken hand, he will pay me a lot for these mistakes. He will stay with me at school, everything I should do with this hand, he will have to do. I called everyone here for this dinner, especially because I needed witnesses... he, on top of everything else, will have to take care of the firewood, the stove, cleaning the school, the benches and the students as necessary. Either you accept it, or I file a complaint and you will go to prison for a good period of your life.

Tom accepted and thanked him.

She called Jack outside the cafe and talked to him, explaining the basis of her plan. But Jack made it very clear that he didn't like him around her and that he didn't want contact with him, or for him to come to our house.

After dinner, which was totally strange, in an atmosphere where everyone thought Jack was going to jump at Tom's jugular, but thanks to the women who knew how to break the mood, everything went smoothly; until...

Until, when he said goodbye, Jack grabbed Tom by the collar, and said that if he created any problems for his wife, while he was working with her, he would put an end to it with his own hands.
