CHAPTER 35
When the morning train arrived, Lee was there with his car, he knew it would be cramped due to the size of the men, but it was the only way he could transport them without attracting attention. He saw four men coming down and introduced himself to them:
- I'm Lee, Bill hobbled me to get them.
- I'm Nathan Grant. He is Gab. He is Patrick. And this is our youngest Simon.
— Hello Simon. Marlen talks a lot about you and your sister. Gentlemen, let's cram a little in the car, we need to have a conversation, and we can't spread you around without having that conversation first.
— To begin with, you will stay in the semi-detached house next to mine, it has three bedrooms, but you can share it comfortably. There will be some furniture that Bill and I collected, but all simple things that each of us here in the city can contribute to our home. We will have another house next to my house already prepared for Wynn, his wife and his son.
— Sorry Lee, do you mean Commander General Wynn Delane and his son Lieutenant Frankison? Patrick asked.
— Yes, themselves... Why? Lee asked without understanding the question.
— I don't understand what they are going to do here? Simon spoke.
Lee saw Nathan exchanging looks with Gab, but he explained everything he knew about Elizabeth and Wynn's relationship and took the opportunity to talk about Philip and Jack Thorton, at no point could they demonstrate knowledge about Philip and his history, for Elizabeth's safety, even because he had no memory of anything.
Gab was the first to ask:
- When can we meet Mrs. Thornton? She is someone very important to us. We owe our lives to her.
Patrick quickly explained, seeing the concern on Lee's face.
—She won't know who we are, I say. Better we promise...
Lee explained that the next morning he would take them to the school, where he worked there, as if they were his workers, after all they would have to meet her, as they would spend some time at her house to protect her, but they would be like workers at her house, building a barn for her. Lee noticed that their eyes were shining with the news about meeting Elizabeth and then he spoke somewhat harshly:
- She is like a sister to me, so I hope you all protect and respect her.
- Yes sir! She was very important to Jack and ended up becoming so important to us too. Gab stated.
With that said, Lee took them to their new home. It was a simple house, with little furniture, but a little bit of everything, everything was very welcoming and cozy. Bill's wife had sent them food and a basket of goodies; Gab was impressed with the reception they were receiving in that city.
The next morning, a car picked up the four men. Lee and Bill were already at school cutting wood to heat the school, the students one by one in single file passed the wood until they reached the school. Patrick laughed at the scene when Hickman explained that everyone did everything for that teacher.
Soon after, they saw a girl arriving surrounded by girls… her students. She kissed Lee and Bill and soon after a line formed of children and everyone went to touch her belly, all the students said something to that child. The woman was turned away, but you could see that she said something to each of them, which made them feel special, as all the children left her presence with a radiant smile.
— That's Opall. The student, who loves Elizabeth and Jack, like no one has ever seen. Hickman said.
At that moment they saw the girl hand something to the teacher, and she shook it...
—A cowbell… said the four men at the same time, all with their mouths open.
Hickman explained that Jack gave it to her as a gift, after she took care of a farm in the region and her two students, because her widowed father needed to be away from the city and there was a cow and laughing he said:
— Imagine the princess of Hamilton taking care of a cow... She had recently arrived in the city, she didn't even know how to use a water pump. Jack stopped by the farm and saw that she was trying very hard and he taught her how to pump water. The next day, after her father returned from the business trip, these two students said that in honor of her they named the cow Lizzie and Jack, who was very playful, gave her that cow bell as a gift so she could call her students.
And so those men went to school laughing at this story.
Bill went to the front of the room and waited for Elizabeth to finish her explanation about the conquest of the Americas, all the men were amazed at the power she had over the students, no one blinked, they were all looking with curiosity at her story, Nathan realized that she was a great strategist, as she was able to capture everything from the smallest child to young people who were almost ready to graduate with her story.
- Now boys, our judge Bill Avery, will explain to you, how or what happens if you break the law. It's something I wouldn't like to see... And placing her hands on her hips, she gave her that teacher look.
The men held back from laughing at the scene. She was great and that face was scary...
Outside, Lee introduced all the men to Elizabeth. She became serious looking each one in the eyes, they used their own names. They smiled at her and were very kind. She looked from Lee to each one of them and then smiled, a slightly mocking sideways smile and started talking and walking without looking at them:
- I'll wait for you at home tomorrow boys, after all it's Saturday and a good day for you to get busy. Abigail will send lunch, so you don't need to bring anything. But if you saw... Lee Coulter, she shouted... I know very well... but that there are rabbits in this forest, haha, I know there are. And laughing she enters the room.
Lee looked at Gab and everyone laughed. What a presentation that was. She was a lot of fun, Simon thought. I wish I had a teacher like her.
- Tomorrow, boys, you better not arrive too early, Mrs. Thorton hates being woken up early. Lee said laughing.
— I don't know how she became a teacher, after all she has to get up early to teach, said Patrick.
— Yes, I know that, as Jack said... Whatever you do, but don't wake Elizabeth. Go Lee.
—Another thing, don't be alarmed if it's the sergeant, she received Jack's horse from the mountie barracks and those two are perfect. And tomorrow he will be there.
Nathan thought to himself, "SUCH A FRAGILE AND PREGNANT GIRL, HUH… SHE, SHOULD SPEND ALL THE TIME TALKING TO HER HORSE TO PASS THE TIME."
Meanwhile in Hamilton, Hargraves was with a strong team of the seven best lawyers in all of canada, they would soon hit the road on their way to Hope Valle and ask for the transfer of Charles and William Thatcher to Hamilton and their immediate release proving their innocence. from them. They would prove the bad conduct of the mounties in that city and even more they would prove that their widowed daughter was useless to society and only caused problems, therefore she should be her father's responsibility since she did not have a husband.
