WD: Leaf and the Oaks
Pallet Town, Kanto. 18th February, 2019. Four days after the proposal. 4:57pm.
Delia ran back outside, clutching the glass cookie jar in between her hands tightly. Ash tapped his foot, slightly impatient, while Misty just paced around excitedly. Delia finally came through the door, carrying a purple purse, stuffing the cookie jar in the big pocket.
"Let's go!"
Minutes later, they were standing outside the Oak Lab, psyched to tell the news. Ash knocked. They heard slight footsteps before Leaf opened the door cheerfully. "Hey you guys! Come on in!" she grinned, stepping aside for them to enter. She closed the door.
"So…Mist, ready to tell us your big news?" Leaf asked, her eyes glimmering. Gary approached her from behind. "Hey Leaf!" Leaf turned around, annoyed. "What?" she snapped. Gary smirked. "You gave me the potato salad, but now I would like a side of Leafy Greens," he winked. Leaf rolled her eyes. "Fuck you." she said flatly, before turning around. Delia raised an eyebrow.
Leaf sighed. "He's been trying to bed me for the past few days. I keep telling him no, so today, Mr. High and Mighty decided that he wanted to torture me with 'sexy' pick-up lines, until I caved in. Which, by the way, is NOT happening. I told him I wanted to wait another year! I don't trust him! I mean, who would? He used to be such a dick! A hard core player!" she ranted.
Delia nodded in understanding, while Ash and Misty covered their mouths, trying not to laugh. Gary pouted. "But Leafy, you know I don't do that anymore! Plus, I-"
"Hello everyone!"
The small group whipped around. "Professor Oak!" The professor winked playfully. "Right in the flesh," he smiled.
Leaf had seated the professor at the table while she went to grab the dishes. Gary and his grandfather sat next to each other, making small talk with Misty and the Ketchums until Leaf came back. Leaf put a couple bowls next to each other and settled herself at one end of the table. "So… what's the big news?" she asked, drumming her fingers on the table.
Misty took a deep breath. "Well, I'm…we're…" Leaf, Gary, and Professor Oak gave her an encouraging look, thinking it was something bad. Misty's eyes said otherwise, though.
"We're getting married!"
Gary and Leaf stood up happily. "WHAT?! NO WAY!" they yelled in synch. Misty grinned, putting up her hand. "YES WAY!" she yelled gleefully as Leaf went to hug her and Gary man hugged Ash. Professor Oak wiped a tear. "They're growing up so fast," he spoke earnestly, watching his grandchild embrace his friends in a congratulatory hug. Delia nodded nostalgically. "Mhm."
They spent the rest of the night partying, playing charades, and making toasts. The next morning, Ash woke up early. He looked out his window before getting ready for the day ahead of them. Misty woke up next, rubbing her eyes. She put a hand on his shoulder. "Where are we going?" she asked softly. Ash turned to her, his brown eyes shining underneath the sun's rays.
"To pay our friends in Pewter a visit, of course,"
