Chapter Seven: The World Engine.

Kara flipped in the air, just about getting out of reach of a large metal tentacle that had been trying to grab her.

As soon as the Kryptonian had arrived in the area the gravity waves were originating from, she was attacked.

Not by bullets, missiles or energy beams. But by large shifting metallic tentacle like appendages that aimed to take her out of the air. And no matter how many times she destroyed said appendages, they would just reformat back together.

It was frustrating to say the least. Not to mention the fact she felt incredibly weak around this machine, like a part of it was draining her power.

Kara decided to fly a considerable way out and then let loose with her heat vision, hoping to destroy the ship or at least cut through it's Hull. Unfortunately, her beams were not at full power and were a lot more cooler than usual. This was due to her loss in power when in close proximity to the machine.

"Dammit, how do I destroy this?" she mumbled.

She knew what it was after all, having recognised it from her history lessons back on Krypton. This was a world engine, a terraforming machine designed to change potential worlds into habitable places for Kryptonians to colonise.

But they were hard coded not to terraform an already habited planet. This meant whoever was working with Loki was Kryptonian or had knowledge of their technology, and how to use it.

Either way it was not good news.

"Supergirl, this is Cisco Ramone. Im a friend of the Flash" a young masculine voice said over comm. "I'm currently using a shield drone to analyse the machine. The only weak spot I can see is the beam emitter, you're going to have to go underneath and smash through it from there."

Kara blinked. "But every time I get too close it swats me aside like a fly, and I get weaker the longer I'm next to it!"

"Do a supersonic punch." Cisco told her.

"What?" Kara blinked, not understanding that term.

"Sorry, you wouldn't know what that is. Right, the flash runs a couple of miles away to get enough speed in order to flash back and punch an enemy. An object going at great speed increases its energy, that energy is released upon hitting a target. So you should be able to do the same but by flying instead of running." Cisco explained.

"Force equals mass times acceleration, got it. Thanks for the suggestion Cisco." Kara replied, blasting off from where she was and into the sky.

After getting several miles from the machine, she turned around and rocketed back, passing Mach 2 before curving through the air to smash into the underside of the World Engine.

Her body tore through the machines internals and straight out of the top, leaving a gaping hole.

Supergirl looked down to see the world engine spark and then stagger, smoke coming from where she had broken out of. Within a few seconds, the machine fell over on its side before exploding into a massive fireball.

Surrounded by its debris, Kara felt weak once again and her body began to fall, heading straight for the dark blue water beneath her.

As she fell, she saw two Shield Quinjet's and a few boats heading in her direction. Then, a pair of arms caught her before she hit the face of the water. As her eyes began to close, she turned her head and saw the symbol of a blue lightning bolt through a white background before passing out.

"I've got you..." A voice whispered as unconsciousness took her.

The shield world security Council had been stupid enough to launch a nuke to try and destroy the chitauri. Somehow not getting the memo that the energy field surrounding the tesseract was IMPENETRABLE.

Meaning if the missile had hit, the rest of new York would have been rubble, but the portal would have carried on. Sure gravity would have pulled the tesseract device onto the rubble, but the field would have protected it. Allowing more alien hostiles to come through.

Plus, the Alien vessel hovering above Stark Tower might have survived the blast. With it being made of unknown materials.

Thankfully, Iron Man had been warned by Nick Fury. And the armoured hero had caught up to the missile and guided it through the portal and into the staging post the Chitauri were using as a gateway to invade earth.

Unfortunately, he had not sealed the suit from vacuum. So a few seconds after going through the portal and watching the missile strike an alien mothership, the billionaire felt his breathing stagger and stop.

Tony then felt his eyes close as darkness welcomed him. Yes he was going to die, but at least he had saved the world. He had saved pepper and his new...friends.

And with that thought, his body fell through the portal as it was closing.

Minutes later, he was awoken by the Hulk screaming down his ears. "Gah, oh I'm Alive. Did we win?"

"Yeah? Well good job team. Man I'm hungry, you hungry, Do you want shwarma? I don't know what it is but it sounded good and I want to try it. I saw a joint that sells it around two blocks to the right."

Barry chuckled at that, shaking his head Before helping the man to his feet. "We've got something a bit more pressing to attend to first." He told Tony.

Loki Odinson finally managed to gain enough strength to get up and move, perhaps he could still escape. Live to plot another day-

Unfortunately, the universe had other ideas. For as the man leaned up, he saw an arrow, repulsor, 9mm pistol, metal shield, Asgardian Hammer and vibrating hand aimed at his face.

Ah, the Avengers had succeeded. It looks like they weren't merely insects after all. But as always, being Loki, the Demigod had to have the last say. "If its alright with you." The man said, directing his comment at Iron man. "I'll have that drink now."

Hawkeye scoffed, leaning forwards to grab the villain and drag him to his feet, enjoying the look of pain on his face as he did so. The moment he was up, Thor slammed a metal mouth mask onto Loki's face, rendering him blissfully silent.

Tony snorted. "Yeah get him up on his feet, it's not like we we're posing up a storm or anything. Also I wouldn't mind if you guys helped clean up-"

In a flash of gold, the debris was gone and the place had been dusted up. Barry came to a stop next to the elevator door, a seven eleven extra large slushie drink in hand.

"Okay, what's happening with the magic wand?" Natasha asked, a smirk on her face as she held up Loki's staff.

"Strike team will handle it, Stacker is on his way." Steve replied with a shrug, feeling tired.

After a few seconds stacker did appear, his squad spreading out to assess any injuries on the Avengers.

"I'm on my way down to coordinate search and rescue, Barry you coming with?" Steve asked.

The teenage speedster nodded, giving a thumbs up as he slurped on his drink. He needed something to cool him down, he had done a LOT today. More than he was used to.

"Yeah Nice Job Scarlet Speedster, glad we had you." Tony stated, giving Barry a wink before going out to take off his armour.

{Shield Helicarrier, Hours Later}

Kara woke up on a medical bed, an IV in her arm and a few powerful sunlamps over her bed.

Her adopted mother, Doctor Eliza Danvers was sat in a chair near her bed, holding Kara's hand.

"Hey mom..." Kara whispered, moaning at how sore her body felt.

"You scared us back there." Eliza whispered, brushing some hair out of Kara's face while she settled on the bed.

"I managed to destroy the machine though, and help other herpes!" Kara replied with a pout. She thought she had done good for her first 'official' superhero mission.

"That you did, that you did...Alex is ticked at Fury for calling you in." Eliza smiled.

Kara groaned. "It was my choice to help, I don't want her to kill him!"

Eliza laughed at that, knowing just how Alex could be and knew what her adopted daughter was referring to.

"Where's the person who caught me?" Kara then asked, a small smile on her face.

"What do you mean?" Eliza asked, confusion in her tone.

"The speedster, I remember being caught by these strong arms? Did Barry get a new suit, I know whoever they were they were wearing a a suit of blue and black." She revealed.

"Kara... there was no one else there when the agents arrived. Just you, laying unconscious on a beach." Eliza told the teenager, much to her shock.

That evening, the group of heroes had gathered on the Helicarrier. Being debriefed by Director Fury and Alexander Pierce.

"May I be the first to say, well done Avengers. The world owes you a massive debt." Pierce told the group, a grateful smile on his face.

"Really? Then maybe shield can pay for my tower repairs." Tony stated, a smirk on his face.

"You're a billionaire Stark, you can pay for your own damn damage." Fury replied with a grin, making the others laugh.

"Unfortunately, duty calls. I'm needed in DC again, thank you Avengers." Alexander nodded, walking out of the room with several agents behind him, obviously his guard.

"You know... it wouldn't be a bad idea to stay as a team. Keep in touch I mean, if the world needs us again, we'll know to assemble." Barry suggested, nibbling on a slice of meat lovers pizza.

He had joined the team for Shwarma, but afterwards still felt very hungry due to his metabolism, so he had ran to a pizza restaurant, grabbed several boxes of meat lovers and left some cash on the register before heading back.

"I agree, you are all honourable warrior's. I would be glad to call you friends." Thor stated.

Tony turned to Steve, his smirk still on his face. "Waddya say cap, oh and agents?" He asked.

Clint, Natasha and Steve looked each other before shrugging. "Why not?"

Epilogue:

A bolt of golden lightning bolted across Central City, going through street after street and passing block after block.

If one was to freeze time they would see that this bolt was a teenage boy wearing a dark red suit with golden outlines.

"My name is Barry Allen... and I'm the fastest man alive."

Barry dodged pedestrians, phased through light poles and jumped over cars so as to continue his patrol of the city.

A sonic boom alerted him to a new presence, and the teenager looked up to see Supergirl in all her Kryptonian glory flying above him. Keeping him company.

"But I'm more than that also. I'm an Avenger. One of earth's mightiest heroes. From now until my death I vow to keep this planet safe from those who wish to do it harm. I will not stop fighting, and I will not stop running until those I love and care for are safe forever."

Barry gave kara a wink and mock salute before surging forwards and putting on a burst of speed, his lightning sparking behind him in beautiful arcs.

He heard kara laugh and say: "Bring it on."

"So if you ever need me, just give me a call... I'll be there in a flash."

Barry grinned up at his new friend, who smiled back down at him.

"And that's a promise."

{Rubble of Titan}

A tall grey being stood before a metal throne, his arms at his side. He hated bringing their Lord bad news, it never ended well.

"Loki has failed, our contract with him now is expired. The humans had but a glimpse of our power, we could send another servant, one who will not fail where the Asgardian did-"

"No, for now earth is to be left alone. Summon Ronan, I will speak with the Kree conqueror on a matter of great importance." Came the deep, metallic reply.

"Of course, my lord." Ebony Maw bowed, refusing to meet his master's eyes.

Thanos was beaten by this man and then beheaded, he did not wish to end up like him. So he would be careful and make sure not to anger him.

His lord was a god after all...
