Chp 19: Falling into Places
"So… Care to share something with me?" Armin made his bed, grinning at Eren who was preparing his own futon.
Eren groaned. "Why the heck do you want to know?" He got on his own futon, patting his pillows and arrange it to the very top of his futon.
"Hey, I shared with you my secrets already. Time to share yours!" Armin demanded.
"Alright, alright! Levi blew me." Eren mumbled very quick that Armin had to lean forward. Eren face turned redder when Armin's eyes widen. The brunette grabbed one of his pillow and pressed his face on it.
"HE DID WHAT?!" Armin screeched.
"ARMIN!" Eren screamed at him, imagining the horror of the other students eavesdropping. "Let your voice down!" He hissed and Armin quickly covered his mouth.
"And…? Did you return the favor?" Armin leaned forward to Eren who was acting like a damn virgin.
"I… Did… Well, trying to." Eren mumbled, playing with his own fingers to distract himself and not daring to look at Armin.
"Woow…" Armin whistled and got wacked by Eren's pillow. "Hey! That's not very nice!" Despite his protest, Armin chortled.
"Why do I hate seeing your grinning face?" Eren fumbled on his pillow to pummelling Armin.
Armin was now guffawed as he tried to dodge the pillow. "Alright! Alright! I can give you a few tips if you want. How about that?"
"I- I don't… need—" Eren flustered and mumbled. He groaned and cupped his face. "Fuck! Do we have to talk about this!?"
"Well, considering that you're a virgin, a little tip might help to pleasure your bro—" Another pillow was flying towards his face. Armin squawked and wheezing.
"Lover! Okay! Lover!" Armin changed the word and Eren paused, hitting his best friend with a pillow.
"Fuck it, Armin." Eren flopped back to the futon and moaned.
"Did you talk about it? The brother thing?" Armin hugged the pillow and eyed his best friend, trying to look serious.
"We did… It's just that… We love each other. That's what matters." Eren said, eyeing the ceiling.
"You know what? "Brother" sounds naughty for sex play." Armin suggested it as a very very good best friend.
A silence went through them.
"Armin?"
"Yeah?"
"Can I kill you?"
"Please don't."
Breakfast was never felt this cheerful. Together with Armin walking towards the cafeteria, Eren was humming to himself while he selected which breakfast he was going to eat this morning. It was until he saw Marco waving at him that Eren recalled Marco's secret. Eren forced himself to smile and wave back at him. Trying to look natural.
"Marco! Come here, let's have breakfast together!" Eren put the tray on the rail so that his bowl and plates will be filled by the tenant.
Armin gave Marco a smile when Marco put his hand on Armin's shoulder. "Morning, love." Armin leaned back to him, grinning when Marco kissed the top of his head.
"Morning to you too. You guys wanna hang out in Jean's café tonight? He had something to tell us." Marco offered.
"Wow, that's exciting, coming from Jean." Eren made a face.
Marco laughed at him. "Don't be like that, Eren. Make sure you bring Levi with you too. We gonna celebrate something."
Eren blinked at the mentioned of Levi's name. "I'll ask him. He has work, so I'm not sure."
"Okay, let him know. Now I'm catching my breakfast." Marco said and get in the line.
Eren grabbed his tray and slide it forward for the next section of vegetables. "Not too much." He told the tenant and quickly pulled up the tray for to head to the cash register.
Armin followed behind him. "Wonder what's Jean up to."
"You didn't even know?" Eren turned to Armin, looking surprised.
"Nope. If it's going to be a surprise, of course he won't tell. Even to his dearest boyfriend."
Eren looked at Armin. The blond blinked at him wondering what's the catch.
"Oh yeah. I forgot, you're Jean's boyfriend too." Eren mumbled, afraid that someone might heard.
"Being secretive is fun." Armin smirked. "Only the three of us know. Oh, five, including you and Mikasa."
"Mikasa know?!" Eren leaned forward to Armin, trying so hard to keep his voice down.
"Yep." Armin grinned at him. "I bet Levi will be the last person I'm gonna tell." Armin walked past Eren once Marco is done with his payment for breakfast. "Let's take a seat over there." Armin leaded them to a much-secluded area. They sat at the corner of the cafeteria where Armin can seat near the fake bushes. Marco sat next to him. Eren took a seat across them and starting to feed himself when Jean suddenly came to them.
"Hey!" Eren protested when Jean practically shoves Eren's head forward to the plate of rice.
"Nice to see you looking cheerful." Jean arched his eyebrow. "What? You're not a virgin anymore?" Jean sent him a wide grin when Eren's face flushed. Armin snickered and Marco send Eren a surprised look.
"Dammit! Armin! Did you tell him?!"
"No, Eren. I said nothing. Your reaction gave your emotions out! You just gave yourself to the wolf."
Eren cursed at Jean who took a seat next to Eren. "Why did you sit next to me? Sit beside your boyfriend!" He eyed Jean in full irritating look.
"Armin is fine with Marco. I can ride him later at night." Jean shrugged.
Eren groaned and put his spoon down. "The fuck. Stop talking about sex."
"So? Care to explain the sudden mood changing?" Jean leaning into Eren's face.
"You're too close!" Eren shoved the bigger boy away. "My sex life has nothing to do with you! Anyway, what's the party about?!" He changed the subject, trying to, at least.
"Oh… You'll know later." Jean said, not smiling though.
Eren raised an eyebrow. "Are you gonna close down?" Eren snickered, eyeing his with a big teasing grin.
"Ain't gonna happen, dipshit." Jean waved his off. He took his bread from his bag, pulled half of it from the plastic wrapper and started to chew on it. "I gotta say, Eren. Your newest bread doesn't taste that good." Jean shrugged. "Maybe you're the one that need to back down and let your father take over the business."
"What did you say?" Eren glared at Jean.
"Alright, stop." Armin interfered when Jean giving Eren the same look. "Unless you want to wreck the school's cafeteria, you guys' better stop." The blond reminded them.
Eren and Jean clicked their tongues and went back to their own breakfast. Marco only chuckled at them. Jean moved his seat to Armin and circled his arms around his shoulder.
Eren fumbled on his school bag, checking if he left anything behind. He nodded to himself once he was sure he got everything packed.
"We still have time until Jean's party. Can we go to my grandpa's?" Armin suddenly said, showing Eren a bag full of Jaeger's Bakery breads.
"What? To your grandpa?" Eren blinked. "Oh, it's that day again, huh? I'm coming along."
Armin smiled. "Okay."
Armin put a plastic bag full of breads inside on top of the gravestone. "Good day, Grandpa." Armin mumbled, staring at his grandfather's name carved on the stone. He smiled and took a seat beside the grave. He pulled out one of the breads he bought for himself and started chewing.
"Your father and my grandpa know each other pretty long. It was until your father decided to open bakery shop that he fully supported him. I'm glad we know each other because of that, Eren." Armin started.
Eren smiled as he nodded, staring at the gravestone. "Yes. He must have loved my dad's bread so much."
"Have you decided what you're going to do for your future? The school had asked us to return the paper."
"You know the answer. I'll continue my dad's business." Eren leaned back with his hands on the grass, staring at the sky above. "Like, it's been decided even before I was born."
Armin looked at him. "What about Levi?"
"He can still do his own life, I don't mind. It'd be much better if I can actually live together with him, though… Maybe I'll open a new bakery under my name in another town." Eren smiled. "Where no one knows us."
Armin eyed him. "Seems like you've made up your mind."
Eren gave him a grin. "It's gonna be a much better life, for both of us. I haven't talked about this with him… About us leaving in a different town."
Armin smiled. "Why not? That's sound like a big dream. Not everyone has the courage to have such a dream. It's a lifetime commitment. I'm glad for you, Eren." Armin nodded. "All you need to do is to talk with Levi about it."
Eren looked at Armin from the corner of his eyes, staring down to his lap. He remembered what he said on the other day to Levi.
"I want you to be my future."
"Yeah… I guess so…". Eren gave a nod.
"We still have Ian to deal with." Armin added.
Some things are making their way into its own place. Eren smiled to himself. The storm is calmer. He can overcome it.
Eren's phone suddenly rang. He grabbed his phone from inside his pocket, checking the number. He blinked when he realized his sister calling him.
"Pick it up. Its Mikasa after all." Armin said.
Eren nodded. He punched the accept button and pressed the phone to his ear. "Mikasa?"
"So… You wanted to talk about Levi?" Ian gave an exasperate sighed.
"Rivaille Jaeger." Farlan said. He him a very serious look. "Levi is indeed Rivaille. Isn't that's the reason you've been chasing after him?"
Ian fumbled on the document and adjusted his collar. "It's useless if the person himself refuses to see his own past. I don't feel like continuing this as the days passed by." He rubbed the palm of his hand across his face.
"Maybe he just wants to start a new life?" A familiar voice made Ian jerked his head to the side. There, stood his fiancée.
"Mikasa?"
"Ian, I want you to stop about this investigating for Rivaille."
Ian stared at her for a moment. "You've talked to him about this?" He raised the envelope higher, showing it to Mikasa.
Mikasa shook her head. "Let's talk in the bakery. My brother also has to know about this." Mikasa said. Her eyes shifted to Farlan who had been chasing after Ian for a while now.
"I'll come along." Farlan eyed them seriously.
Mikasa put both cups of coffee in front of Ian and Farlan. She took her seat and eyed her fiancé.
Eren and Armin who were just arrived at the store, barged inside, staring at the three of them.
"That was pretty quick." Mikasa told them.
"I… I heard you want to say something about Levi, so…"
"We're just talking about Ian at my grandpa's cemetery." Armin added.
Mikasa chuckled at them. "Take a seat. I think I have to be the one leading this or else, its gonna reach nowhere. Eren, could you close the shop for a moment? Thank you."
Eren flipped the shop's sign to close and dragged the nearest seat closer to the three. Armin did the same and took a seat next to Eren.
"You can start." Eren said.
"I want us to stop keep on pestering Levi." Mikasa said straight to the point. "And my parents don't have to know about who Levi was." Mikasa added when he noticed the look on Ian's face.
Farlan looked both Mikasa and Ian. "I guess, he has his own life now…" He actually needs to agree with them.
Ian stared at Mikasa for a moment. He sighed. "If that's what you're deciding, I'm fine with it. But I heard about the princess…"
"The princess?" Almost everyone in the shop reacted at the same time.
"Historia Reiss… Apparently during the collide, she's in the same bus as Levi. So, what I'm investigating is not only about Rivaille, but also about the princess."
Mikasa's eyes widened.
"Christa?!" She mumbled to herself.
Eren who sat next to her, stared at her surprised.
"Hey, brat." Levi looked behind him to see Eren getting out from the rooftop of the hospital building.
"You smoking?"
"Erwin doesn't have to know."
Eren rolled his eyes. "The smell is pretty strong not to be noticed." He paced towards the railing and leaned into it, staring down at the town. The sky was pretty clear to noticed everything in the faraway distant. The pollution had been bad in these several days but not that much anymore.
"Did you not tend the store?" Levi noticed Eren still had his school bag with him. He must have directly gone to the hospital.
"Mikasa can cover me."
Levi snorted. "You're gonna be the owner of the shop one day. How can you leave like that?"
Eren shrugged. "School had asked me to hand back the paper… You know, about which university I should attend to."
Levi took a deep drag on his cigarette and blow it gently it gently. "What do you want to do with your life?"
Eren stayed quiet. Levi looked at him.
"Ian… and Mikasa had some talk."
"Huh? Changing the subject, are we?" Levi throws the cigarette to the ground and pummelled it with his shoes. He put his left hand inside his pocket and grabbed Eren's hand, tanging it with his own.
"What did they talk about? About me?"
"Mikasa said that you have your own life, now."
Levi gazed at Eren for a moment. He smiled to the brunette "I am. I'm glad your sister has realized that."
"And… I wonder about my life and I decided to be like my dad." The taller of the two squinted his eye and ruffled his hair.
"It is your dream or your dad's dream?"
Eren stay quiet and looked down to his shoes.
Levi chuckled when Eren didn't reply him. "Listen to me." He nudged Eren's hand to make the boy looked at him in the eyes.
"Have I told you that my parents never come to pick me up when I was little?"
Eren looked at Levi. The man shifted his gaze towards the horizon. Eren stayed silent, letting the man continue.
"I was waiting for them and they never pick me up. I don't even remember anything besides my name and a baby with green eyes." Levi shifted his look back towards Eren. "I'm angry."
"Of course." Eren locked his eyes into his, holding Levi's hand tightly.
"I'm confused. I wonder why they never come." His heart clenched. "I've seen how other children waiting for their parent to pick them up. I know how it feels to be left behind. All alone in the unknown world."
Levi paused for a moment. As if he had found the courage to speak again, he continued.
"And then, there's the time I wanted to protect those children from pain and sadness. Helping them out from their misery. And that's how I want to be their psychiatry."
They looked into each other deeply.
"I want this life, Eren. I'm sorry, I cannot return to Jaeger's family. I have my dream to be fulfil under Erwin's training."
"I understand, Rivaille." Eren called out his given name. "It's your life, you decide which path you choose."
Levi didn't say anything about the name calling. "Thank you for understanding the choice I made. Its where my heart belongs." Levi disentangled from Eren's hand and rubbed Eren's lower lips with his thumb. His eyes shone tenderly as he gazed over the boys' beautiful eyes. "It's Levi for you." He leaned forward and brushed Eren's lips with his and pulled away to look deep into his eyes.
Eren smiled and nodded. "I'll support your decision. I also have my own dream to open several bakeries in several towns."
"You gotta follow your dream. Not anyone's dream but yours." Levi patted Eren's head and ruffled it.
"Hey! Don't mess with my hair!" The brunette protest and pushed Levi's hand away.
Levi chuckled. "Make sure you return that paper to school." He waved his boyfriend away. "Now, go. Be a responsible adult and take care of the store." Levi patted Eren's back and pushing him toward the entrance door.
Eren only grunted in return.
They have talked. They have known each other's dream. They're getting closer.
Eren smiled. He could feel that he can achieve his dream and have his own bakery. Not because of his dad. But for his own sake.
"Our relationship is our future, Eren."
"I want you to be my future."
