Not a big fan of this one… Some Yui and Maeve interactions though, so that's cool.
"It may not be that bad," The damned said.
Maeve woke up early to be the first one in the Classroom, hoping that by being the first one she may evade Bakugo. 'I can already see him entering the room demanding to know who "stole" the first place…"
In other news, Maeve already made it her mission to request a pair of pants instead of the skirt. While she doesn't mind wearing a skirt, the prospect of wearing one around hormonal teenagers isn't something that she wants to deal with, especially with the possibility of Mineta still being in the class. She is not (completely) stupid, While he is a hopeless pervert, he is fairly smart compared to the rest of class 1-A.
Entering through U.A.'s gates, at a distance she could see a person with black shoulder-length hair 'That's Yui… I should apologize for earlier' thought Maeve. "Hey!"
Kodai turned around an unreadable expression on her face. Maeve rapidly quickened her pace to catch up. "You remember me? Thanks for the help with the Zero-Pointer in the exam, and sorry for the weird request… I was pretty out of it, hehe."
"... No worries, I didn't mind," She said with the same unreadable face.
"That's a relief, doing that attack took a lot of my stamina…"
"..."
"..."
"So… What class are you in?"
"1-B"
"Cool, I got 1-A" 'Holy shit this is so awkward… uhh uh uhh I need a topic uhh'
"Now that I think about it, I never got your name. I'm Maeve Brennan by the way,"
"... Yui Kodai. Are you a foreigner?" She asked.
"I'm Irish, though I've lived most of my life in Japan so Japanese is still my Main Language"
"That's cool…"
"... Not much of a talker, right?" Maeve asked
"... Mm," She said
"No problem then, it was still nice talking with you. we are almost at our Classrooms, See ya later" Maeve said, waving goodbye at Yui who responded with her own small wave.
"Bye"
Taking the opposite direction, there was only a single thought in Maeve's mind: 'Yeah, she's cute.'
A short while after her brief talk with Yui, Maeve found herself at the entrance to Class 1-A. Opening the door, she found it empty 'Nice'.
Walking to her assigned seat, which was seat No. 9, she sat down and silently waited for the rest of the class to arrive. 'Might as well see who I replaced in this class… Let it be Mineta please please please please please.'
After waiting for a while, the first person to arrive was, unsurprisingly, Ida Tenya. He looked quite surprised at seeing Maeve 'Probably because I was here before him'. After a couple of moments, he approached Maeve, and, in a very robotic way, presented himself. "Good Morning! I'm Ida Tenya from Somei Private Academy! I have to say, I didn't expect someone to be here so early, your dedication is truly respectable! May I ask your name!" The bespectacled said, reaching out to shake hands.
'I thought him being this intense was an exaggeration' Maeve thought. "I'm Maeve Brennan, nice to meet you," she said, shaking his hand.
"Maeve Brennan… didn't you place first on the exam?" Tenya asked, looking a bit frustrated.
"Y-Yeah, 114 points in total…" 'What's with him? Oh… he didn't know about the rescue points'
"Of course… a big part of being a hero is saving people… Khh… how did I not think about that!" He said, sounding really mad at himself. "I have to admit it, you are better than me!"
"O-Ok… Don't beat yourself too much… didn't you get 7th place? That's already better than most people, you did great" Maeve said, trying to console the speedster.
Suddenly, Maeve felt a pair of eyes looking at her. 'That's Todoroki… Why is he looking at me like that?'
After talking for a bit, Ida went to greet the newcomer. At that time, Momo Yaoyorozu entered the room. 'Another person giving me strange gazes… What's with that?' She proceeded to go to her seat and kept stealing glances at Maeve for a while, the same with Todoroki. 'Please stop…'
Another 7 students entered, before none other than Katsuki Bakugo entered, and he looked especially pissed. 'I mean, I know that his whole thing is that he is always pissed, but I'm sure that this much anger comes from someone specific… and it's yours truly of course' Maeve decided to keep quiet.
Another 2 students entered, and then Kirishima came. He looked around the classroom, then locked eyes with the Rune user. "Hey, Maeve!" He said.
'Shit!' Bakugo turned around and started looking at Maeve, burning a hole through her skull with his anger.
"Y-Yo… Kirishima," She greeted. "So you did end up dyeing your hair, huh? I like the look," Maeve took a side glance at Bakugo 'Still staring daggers at me,'
"Hehe, thanks," Kirishima said with a wide smile. "How do you think our first day is going to go?" He asked.
"I dread what's coming," Maeve said.
"Quite pessimistic today, huh? I don't think it will be that bad," He said.
'I'm so looking forward to next year… At least I know most of what's to come,'
"Don't put your feet on the desk!"
'Here it comes' The door to the classroom opened while Bakugo and Ida were arguing.
"Don't you think that's rude to the U.A. upperclassmen and the people who made the desk?" Ida argued.
"I don't! What junior high did you go to, you side character?!" Bakugo responded.
"What's his problem?" Kirishima asked.
"Don't know," Maeve said, shrugging. "Just enjoy the show,"
"Somei? So you're a damn elite, huh? Looks like I'll have fun crushing you!" Glorified dynamite said.
"Crushing? You're terrible! Are you truly aiming to be a hero?!" Ida said, indignant.
'It's kinda fun watching this scene in person, here come Green by the way"
"You're…" All of the class, who were previously looking at Bakugo and Ida argue, turned to look at the door, where Midoriya was standing.
"Oh, um…" Midoriya tried to present himself.
"Good morning! I am from Somei Private Academy. My name is-" Ida tried to say before Midoriya stopped him.
"I heard! Umm… I'm Midoriya. Nice to meet you, Ida."
Maeve watched the exchange until Uraraka came in. "Oh, that curly hair! You're the plain-looking one!"
"Wah!"
"You passed, just like Present Mic said!" Uraraka started to talk, then started to give a repetitive punching motion.
"Oh, well, um, it was thanks to you going to speak with him directly that I, uh…" Midoriya tried to talk back, but could barely hold a conversation in his embarrassment. Bakugo just looked increasingly pissed.
"Go somewhere else if you want to play at being friends. This is the hero course." Aizawa said from outside the door. Then a loud slurping sound came.
'Ugh… what is that sound'
"It took eight seconds before you were quiet. Time is limited. You kids are not rational enough."
'Holy shit he looks worse than I thought. How much does he sleep? 1 hour?'
"I'm your homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shota. Nice to meet you." He looked around the classroom and then locked eyes with Maeve.
'What's with people looking at me weird today? Though I guess I did meet him earlier' Maeve thought
"It's kind of sudden, but put this on and go out onto the field," Aizawa said.
Everyone in the classroom, after getting out of their shock, took a gym uniform and went into the locker rooms.
"Sorry, is it a problem if I use the bathroom to change instead of the locker room?" Maeve asked.
"Why is that?" He asked.
Maeve pointed at herself "Girl kisser" she deadpanned.
Aizawa thought for a moment. "... Okay, just don't be late," He said.
Taking a uniform and bowing, Maeve went into the bathrooms to change.
"You'll be doing a Quirk assessment test."
"" A Quirk assessment test?! ""
"What about the entrance ceremony? The orientation?" Uraraka asked.
"If you're going to become a hero, you don't have time for such leisurely events. U.A.'s selling point is how unrestricted its school traditions are. That's also how the teachers run their classes." Aizawa said.
While Aizawa was explaining the Quirk assessment test, Maeve started to look around. 'Hmm… Who did I replace?' Then it hit her 'Koda's not here… oh… now I feel bad…' It was extra obvious with the presence of the Grape pervert lecherously looking at Yaoyorozu. 'Holy shit he's tiny… sucks to be him'
"Brennan, you finished at the top of the practical exam, right?" Aizawa asked and Maeve nodded. "In junior high, what was your best result for the softball throw?"
"96 meters" 'Bless the extra strength my Quirk gives me… Everyone is giving me weird looks again…'
"And that was without your Quirk?" He asked.
"Yes."
"Then, try doing it with your Quirk." Maeve proceeded to take the ball and go into the circle.
"You can do whatever you want as long as you stay in the circle." The tired man said. "Hurry up."
Maeve nodded and started to think 'Berkana, Hagalaz, and Sowilu in my arm and hand. Then I add Sowilu and the combined runes for Slow Falling in the ball, along with Algiz for some extra air time when Slow Falling is about to run out. That's more than enough. Thank god I got finger-drawn runes not to activate instantly when I inscribed them…'
Midoriya seemed to have magically pulled out a notepad and was frantically writing into it. While everyone else watched in interest.
Maeve got into position, then activated all of her runes, her arms and the ball emitting a blue light. Then she threw the ball, it going high into the sky, going completely out of view. 'And… now!' She activated the rune for Slow falling and waited. '3…. 2…. Now!' Finally, she activated Algiz, letting the ball get some extra air time.
After the ball landed, Aizawa started to talk. "Know your own maximum first. That is the most rational way to form the foundation of a hero." He showed the device with the results of the throw.
"1203 meters, for real? What's with her quirk?" Denki Kaminari said, baffled at the result.
"What's this? It looks fun!" "We can use our Quirks as much as we want! As expected from the hero course!"
" "It looks fun," huh? You have three years to become a hero. Will you have an attitude like that the whole time?" Aizawa grinned mischievously. "All right. Whoever comes in last place in all eight tests will be judged to have no potential, and will be punished with expulsion" Almost everyone took on a grim look, with some exceptions like Yaoyorozu who is calm, and Bakugo who also has a big grin.
"We're free to do what we want about the circumstances of our students. Welcome to U.A.'s hero course!" He said with a mad grin.
'I wanted to try my Quirk with these tests for a long while, let's see how I do.'
For the 50-meter dash, Maeve got matched up with Mineta. 'I hate that look he's giving me…' "On your mark. Get set…!" For this test, she used Algiz to shoot herself almost all the way to the finish line, then used another one to finish it. "2.93 seconds," 'If I use Algiz, I'm faster than Ida, but using it repeatedly will drain my stamina too fast… I guess it's still a better option to just use Sowilu most times…'
"16.4 seconds!" The robot said, indicating that Mineta finished the run 'Short legs, not the best test for him…'
Ida was looking surprised in the distance. "He beat Tenya's score? That's crazy!" Kaminari said.
The rest of the tests went pretty well. Though it makes sense her quirk is quite versatile. Some examples are using Berkana and Hagalaz for the Grip Strength test, to a result of 396, or just using Algiz for the standing long jump. She got to skip the ball throw since she had already done it earlier.
'Watching Midoriya struggle was kind of sad, but at least Aizawa won't expel him.'
"WHAT THE HELL? EXPLAIN YOURSELF, DEKU!" Shouted Bakugo, lunging at Midoriya with his Quirk before being stopped by Aizawa's capture scarf.
"Stop using your quirk already… I'm getting dry eye over here."
"Holy shit man, that must hurt," Maeve said to Midoriya. 'I'm already here, what's the point of evading him?'
"Ah… It's not that bad" Midoriya said.
"Prepare for the next event," Aizawa said.
"Well, good luck with the rest of the exam," She said, patting him on the back, which resulted in a mild blush from the protagonist.
"T-Thanks…" He said, before starting to talk with Uraraka.
The remaining three tests were simple enough. For the Sit-ups she used Hagalaz on her legs, the Seated Toe-touch was probably her worst test since she didn't train flexibility at all, and in the Long-distance run, she got a comfortable 4th place behind Bakugo 'I did pretty good for only training for a year'. At the end of the tests, she ended up quite tired because of the overuse of her runes.
"Also, I was lying about expelling someone. That was a rational deception meant to bring out the best in all of you." Aizawa said with a mocking smile
"WHAAAAAAAAAT?!"
"Well of course it was a lie… didn't take much to figure that out…" Said Yaoyorozu.
"I don't know about that, Yaoyorozu… our teacher seems like the kind of person who would expel someone if he doesn't think they have what it takes to be a hero. I'm sure he would have expelled Midoriya if he hadn't surprised him during the ball throw… Am I wrong?" Maeve said, looking at Aizawa, who just gave an evil smirk.
"Oh…" Said Momo, meanwhile Midoriya was ghostly pale.
"Believe what you want, anyway we're done here. Your documents about the curriculum and such are back in the classroom. Give them a look." He said, turning around and walking off "Also go get Recovery Girl to fix you, Midoriya. Tomorrow's trials aren't gonna be any easier" With that everyone walked to the locker rooms to change.
"... Hey, Brennan! The girl's locker rooms are over here" Shouted Ashido, who noticed the rune user walking in the opposite direction of the rest of the girls.
'Why? Ahh, I haven't told them,' Maeve pointed at herself. "Girl kisser," she said with a deadpan expression.
"What?" she asked.
"Woman lover"
"?"
"I'm lesbian" She deadpanned.
"Ahhh, OK! Sorry for the confusion!" The horned girl said.
"No problem, I just didn't want to make you uncomfortable," The transmigrator said, then she kept walking to the bathrooms. "See ya later"
"See ya!" The pink girl said, waving.
'I still have to go to work… What a pain." Maeve thought. Then she felt a tap on her shoulder. Looking back she saw Yui. "Oh, hello Kodai!" She said, clearly happier than before.
"...Just Yui is fine," Yui said.
"How did your first day go? Mine was tiring… Our Homeroom Teacher is quite the sadist and made us do a Quirk Apprehension Test, totally skipping orientation, telling us he would expel the student who gets last in the test, and then saying it was a lie or "Rational deception"." She said.
"...That's… I'm glad he's not my Homeroom teacher," Yui said, sounding a bit baffled "Ours seems more peaceful than yours, ours just did a presentation and proceeded to explain the curriculum,"
"Lucky you… I overused my Quirk, now my muscles are sore. Also, my classmates are all nutjobs" Maeve said.
"I'm sure I heard some loud yelling from my classroom, whoever it was sounded pissed"
"That would be our resident rabid dog Bakugo, he is quite loud and pissy. Funny guy" Maeve put a hand on her chin. "He seems really pissed about another student having a Quirk when he thought he didn't have one"
"...Hmm… Maybe he's got a big ego?" The Kuudere asked.
"He does call other people "Extras"," The transmigrator said.
"...Huh…"
"..."
'The conversation died down… She was quite chatty just a moment ago-'
"I was wondering" Maeve looked at Yui "Why do you use gloves?" Yui said, pointing at Maeve's gloves.
If she was honest, Maeve just got used to wearing gloves since she started training, it just felt right for her, as if they were part of her body. 'Which is kind of weird' "I'm not completely sure myself, I just kind of got used to using them… They also make using my Quirk easier without having to bust my hands." Maeve said, pointing at the runes inscribed on the back of the glove.
"What do they do?" Yui asked.
"These are some of the runes used for my Quirk." She started pointing at each rune. "This one is Berkana for enhanced strength, this one Ehwaz for Enhanced durability, and Sowilu for enhanced speed."
"... That's an interesting Quirk. Was the thing you did in the Entrance exam also your Quirk?" Yui asked, getting increasingly curious.
"Getting information on the competition?" Maeve said, looking at Yui with a smirk.
"Ah…n-no…" Yui stuttered, looking away.
"Hehe, it's okay. However, I will keep the specifics of what I did in the entrance exam a secret. I don't think I will be using it in the way you saw that much, since it is quite lethal… but one never knows" Maeve said, putting a hand on her chin.
"...Fair enough," She said, going back to looking in front of her with the same expressionless face.
"... How about we exchange numbers, I have to leave already since I got work," Maeve said, hoping in her mind that she would say yes.
"...Ok" Yui took out her phone and exchanged numbers with Maeve.
"Well, it was nice talking to you, see ya," Maeve said, waving at Yui while activating Sowilu, her feet starting to emit a blue energy and taking off. Yui waved back.
"..."
"Who was that?" Someone said, eliciting a slight jump from Yui. The owner of the voice being Reiko Yanagi, a pale-skinned young woman with gray hair which obscures her left eye and hands held up to her elbows.
"... Ah, Reiko, hello. She is someone I met during the entrance exam" Yui said.
"Is she also from the hero course?" Yanagi asked.
"Yeah, 1-A"
"Hm… Well, let's go home, Yui" Reiko said, earning an "Mm" from Yui.
Not a big fan of this chapter, may come back to rewrite it later.
Nothing to note here, only some interactions with canon characters, Maeve doing the ball throw instead of Bakugo, and talking with Yui. (Also Reiko appearance, I like her a lot)
You are allowed to eat me alive for this chapter, I will use suggestions to rewrite it in the future.
How about an Air Walk combined rune?
