The family and some other members of the pack gathered in Bran's basement to hold Yelena's birthday celebration. It was big because this was the first time she had a real birthday party since she was five years old and the Cornicks wanted to make sure it was special.
SeoHyun made the cake, a chocolate one with vanilla frosting and fudge filling. Then they got to her gifts. A lot of them were monogrammed with her initials, but she noticed the last initial was always a 'C' where her last name 'Salazar' started with 'S'. She asked about it, but nobody would answer.
"Thank you, everyone." She said as she thought she was finished.
"We aren't done, yet." Samuel said placing a plain manila envelope in front of her.
She opened it in confusion then, upon reading the first three words burst into tears.
"Papi, is this real?" she asked
"Yes, sweetheart, it is… like I told you, you were family from the moment you came into our home. Now… now it's official, you are our daughter. Welcome to the family, Yelena Cornick." Samuel said and hugged Yelena gently.
It took a few minutes for her sobs to subside into an inexplicable case of the hiccups.
"This… this feels like a dream." She admitted "A dream I never want to wake up from."
"Its not a dream." Nicolette assured her as Samuel revealed one last gift. A small, heart shaped necklace with the words ' Papi's heart' engraved on it. He then pulled a chain from his shirt that had what looked like a dog tag with a heart shaped hole in it that read 'There is a girl that kind of stole my heart, she calls me "Papi"'
Yelena laughed and embraced him again.
"I love you, Papi."
" I love you, too, my sweet girl." He replied.
SeoHyun looked as Charles subtly pulled her closer she remembered that moment when she learned he and Anna would be adopting her and the overwhelming flood of emotions that came from that moment. She was happy Yelena got that wonderful feeling of finally belonging somewhere.
It didn't take long for the adoption to be finalized and the family felt comfortable and complete again.
The End!
