Chapter 5: Endgame

Agent BM: Yes she does.

Zoroark X: I'm sorry, but I'm not doing that.

Back at school, Bessie spoke to her friends about Kevin.

"Guys, I need to talk to you about Kevin." she told them.

"What's wrong, he being mean to you?" asked Lincoln.

"No, but he's not a bad guy."

The others looked at her like she was crazy.

"It's true, he told me that he and his sister were bullied at their old school, and that she's been sent away to a special facility. He really misses her."

"Bessie, Kevin's probably just stringing you along." Liam said.

"Yeah, he may not even have a sister." added Clyde.

"Guys, I'm a good judge of character. And I'm telling you guys Kevin's not a bad guy."

But the others just wouldn't believe her.

Things weren't going much better for Kevin.

"What do you mean you don't want to do it anymore?" asked Josh.

"I've gotten to know Bessie and she's a nice girl. And she doesn't deserve to be picked on." Kevin told them.

"She's a loser in a wheelchair, Kevin. Who cares?" replied Harry.

Kevin scowled, as he realized how truly awful his friends were. So he just turned around, and left.

Later that day, while Bessie was checking out some books at the library, when she ran into Kevin.

"Hey, Kevin what's up?" she asked him.

"Just gonna catch up on some studying."

"So am I. Can I join you?"

"Sure."

And they sat down at a table together. After working for a while Kevin spoke up.

"Earlier I heard you telling your friends about me. Just wanted to say thanks for sticking up to me. I know I don't come off as one of them so to say, but I'm not so bad a person. Despite my lack of social skills."

"Your welcome. I know not to judge people too harshly just because of their looks."

"So glad you forgave me for yelling at you, I didn't mean it too much. Look you don't have to answer this if you don't want to, but I do wanna know, why are you in a wheelchair? Again you don't have to answer."

"(Sighs), well if you really want to know. When I was 9, I got hit by car."

"You got hit by a car? That's terrible!"

"I know."

"So you're paralyzed? If I touch your legs you won't feel it?"

"Not entirely. I still have feeling in my legs. And I can walk a little."

She stands up and takes a couple steps, and sits back down.

"I just can't go far without my legs giving out."

"That's terrible. I thought my sister's problems were bad, but yours are even worse. But you're a great fighter not letting this get to you that much from what I've seen of you."

Then Kevin got an idea.

"Hey Bessie, you think you'd like to come with me to see Lucy on Saturday? I think it would be good if you could talk to her."

"Sure, I'd like that."

Little did they know, Lincoln had overheard the two.

When school was over, Lincoln quickly went up to her.

"Bessie, I overheard what Kevin said to you, you can't go." he warned.

"Why not, Lincoln?"

"It could be a trap, who knows what he'll do to you?"

"He told me about his sister, she lives in a special center like I used to."

"It could just be a trick."

"Lincoln this isn't a trick. If you don't believe me then come with us."

Lincoln thought about it, and then agreed to come along. Bessie told Kevin about this, and he was okay with it. Lincoln informed the others, and they agreed it was a good idea.

"You think you'll be able to tell if it's a trick?" wondered Zack.

"I've got 10 sisters, I can tell if the two have a real sibling relationship."

The others agreed at that.

On Saturday, Lincoln met Bessie at her house, and they waited for Kevin.

"I still say this is gonna be trouble." said Lincoln.

"Lincoln, will you calm down? It's gonna be fine." Bessie told him.

Then a black limo pulled up and a driver got out and opened the passenger door. They saw Kevin sitting in it.

"Hi, Bessie. Hey Lincoln." Kevin greeted.

"Hi, Kevin." Bessie greeted back.

"Hey." Lincoln replied.

Lincoln got into the limo, and the driver helped Bessie out of her chair and into the limo. After putting her chair inside, the driver got back in, and drove off.

As they rode down the road, Lincoln decided to grill Kevin.

"So Kevin, you and your sister close?" he asked.

"Oh yeah. We're twins, and we've done almost everything together." Kevin told him.

That sounded reasonable to Lincoln, and soon they arrived at their destination. The place was the Royal Woods Assisted Living Center for Troubled Youths. It was a three story building with several windows on each floor.

Inside looked like any normal reception area. Kevin led Bessie and Lincoln to where his sister was. He walked up to the receptionist, who knew why he was there.

"You may proceed, your sister is in her room." said the receptionist.

The receptionist buzzed a door open and allowed them inside with a security escort. The guard gave them visitor passes before escorting them. As they made their way through the facility, they passed classrooms, bedrooms, a cafeteria, and different rec rooms and offices.

People of all kinds roamed the halls, doctors and security guards, therapists and teenagers, as well as some little kids.

"Doesn't look too bad of a place." Lincoln brought up.

"Everyone here is here for some behavioral problem. Drug users, juvenile delinquents, people with anger problems. I come here when possible to keep my sister company." explained Kevin.

The guard led the group to the top floor and to a room labeled simply 315. Kevin told the guard they'd be fine and allowed him to leave.

"Lucy, it's Kevin." Kevin called out.

The door opened, and Kevin was greeted by a hug from Lucy. Bessie smiled seeing the sight, even Lincoln was slightly happy. Lucy let the three inside her room and shut the door, where Lincoln and Bessie could finally get a good look at her.

She had blonde hair in a ponytail held up by a black bow, brown eyes and light skin. She wore a pink t shirt, brown skirt and black boots, white socks, a navy blue jean jacket, big silver hoop earrings, a silver heart necklace and bracelet, and a pearl necklace.

She definitely looked somewhat wealthy to Lincoln with what she wore.

"Kevin, I'm so glad to see you. And you brought friends." said Lucy.

"I'm Lincoln, and this is Bessie." Lincoln introduced.

"So, this is where you live, not too different from the place I used to live." said Bessie quietly.

Lucy's room consisted of nothing more than a bathroom, a bed, a desk, a bookcase, a dresser, and a small TV mounted to the wall and behind glass. On the shelf were a few small toys and some books.

The bed had a doll of a yellow Pegasus sitting on it. There was also a window which had a view of the town outside.

"It's okay, it's not much. But it works. Wish they would let me keep my phone. The staff at the front desk has it, I'm allowed to use it only if I need to call my family. Afraid I'm gonna cyber bully someone on the internet." said Lucy.

"Things that bad around here?" Bessie asked.

"I hate it here. Yes ,I beat up some kids at my last school and I threw some things through a window, and I beat up Kevin's friend, sure, but I'm not a criminal. The staff takes good care of me, but I don't like the school here, everyone wants to prove they're the tough guy around here. Lots of screaming and yelling. Can't even wear my jewelry outside this room because I'm afraid someone will steal them." Lucy complained.

Then she lied down on the bed and looked at the ceiling.

"Just one of the joys of being me, having to be here instead of a real home with a real school. But I hope to be out soon for good behavior, the doctors say my attitude is improving."

"That's great at least." said Lincoln.

Lincoln was beginning to see that Kevin wasn't the snobbish jerk he thought he was.

After a little bit, Kevin and Lincoln left the room so Bessie and Lucy could talk.

"So, you're one of Kevin's new friend. You must like him enough if you came to visit me, none of his other friends want to." Lucy said.

"Well your brother is nice. But it's also because he wanted me to talk to you. You and I aren't that different."

"You have anger issues too?"

"No, my issue was with my chair."

"I'm not in a wheelchair like you."

"True. But how I got this chair isn't a happy story. You see when I was 9, I got hit by a car, and lost the ability to fully walk."

"Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that, I can't imagine how difficult that must be for you. At least you're alive, and Kevin tells me you're a nice girl, surely he told you why I'm in this dumb place."

"Yes, he's mentioned your issues with anger. But I also had to live in a special facility after my accident."

"I'm sure the staff cared about you more there than they do here. I hate this place, everyone's always trying to be the tough guy. I can't even wear my favorite necklace outside this room because I fear it getting stolen. What I did to end up here, I did it because Kevin was getting bullied, I don't have any friends, he's all I have."

"Even though I situations are different, Lucy. I can give you advice that helped me when I was upset about my situation."

"You know a way I can get out of here? I miss my real bedroom."

"Well not really. But I learned that to go get through a tough patch in life is you gotta let go of the bad things, focus on and appreciate the good things in life, and to move forward don't focus on the bad things that have happened in the past and look forward and try to be the best you you want and can be."

"Not easy when you have a last name or name like mine, who'd wanna be friends with nutjob Lucy? I'm somewhat respected here, but I wouldn't call these people my friends."

"Well I can't tell you want to do about your last name, but you need to show people you're not a nutjob. You're just Lucy a girl who may have issues, but everyone else does."

"Well, there is more to me than just being tough. I care about fashion, I mean just look at the jewelry i wear. And I do love ponies and video games."

"Then show that side of Lucy."

"I will, the day I get out of here." Bessie smiles at her.

"Great. You're already one step into your new life."

A while later, the three left the building.

"Your sister seems pretty nice, Kevin." Lincoln told.

"Thanks, she really is if you get to know her." replied Kevin.

"And my talk with her went well, and I think things will be getting better for her soon." Bessie informed.

Kevin smiled at hearing that.
