Link found a house and bought it. So he moved into it and was about to go to bed for the night when there was a knock at his door. He walked to the door and opened it. To his surprise it was Impa.
"What are you doing here?" Link asked.
"I just came to check on you." Impa replied, "Plus, to talk to you about the application to the Hylian Military."
Link looked at her, "I never filled out an application for the Hylian Military."
"Well, I know that Zelda did that for you but she also told me that you would want to live here in Kakariko Village."
"Yes, I do," Link said. "Is that going to be a problem?"
Impa shook her head, "No, but the King would like you to go through the training."
"Okay, but I don't think I really need any training because I did save Hyrule." Link answered, "Unless it requires something else to qualify."
"But the King does think you are too young to be in the military so this training can be your way of showing him you more than qualify to be in not only the Hylian Military," Impa said. "But also for the Royal Guard."
"Am I able to think about it before I make a decision?" Link asked.
Impa nodded her head, "Yes, of course."
Link shut the door and crawled into bed and fell straight to sleep.
The Next Morning
Link woke up early in the morning to get a head start to Hyrule Castle for he decided to join the Hylian Military because he probably could learn some new things that he didn't know before. He got ready and ate a quick breakfast. He was about to leave when there was a knock at his door. But as soon as he opened it there wasn't anybody there.
That's odd, I thought I heard someone knock on the door. Link thought as he walked out and locked his door. He walked out of the gate of Kakariko Village and headed west to the castle gates. But on the way there he ran into Malon who was delivering the milk to Castle Town.
"Hey, Fairy Boy." Malon said, "How are you doing this morning?"
"I'm doing great," Link replied.
Malon walked up to him and gave him a big hug.
"Malon, what are you doing?" Link asked totally uncomfortable.
"You've never been hugged like that before."
Link shook his head, "No, I haven't but I don't like you like that."
"What are you talking about?" Malon asked blushing. "You think I love you in a romantic way."
"The way you hugged me seemed like you did," Link countered.
Well, I actually do love you like that. Malon thought. I hope to one day marry you and have a family with you.
Link turned and entered castle town and made his way to the castle. Once he got to the throne room he bowed before King Icil of Hyrule.
"You must be Link," King Icil said. "Zelda told me that in another time you saved Hyrule from Evil."
Link nodded his head, "Yes, your majesty but because of that I don't want any special treatment in the Hylian Military."
"I knew your father and your mother,"
"You did?"
King Icil nodded his head, "Yes, they were excellent soldiers in the Hylian Civil War."
"What were they like?" Link asked.
"Well, they were both kind and both always follow orders really well."
Link looked at him, "Really."
"Yes, so you would join the Hylian Military if you aren't given any special treatment."
"Yes."
"Okay that is fine by me." Icil said, "I am going to station you in Kakariko Village because that's where I always send everyone that barely starts in the Hylian Military."
"That's where I'm currently living right now."
King Icil looked at him, "You are?"
"Yes, I am," Link answered.
"Well that works out."
Link bowed then was about to leave when King Icil called out to him, "Wait, Link."
"What is it Your Majesty?"
"I'm sorry if my daughter has made you uncomfortable by somewhat forcing you to join the Hylian Military."
"It's okay your majesty," Link said. "Besides, I really didn't know what I was going to do for the next few years."
"I'm still going to have to put you through the training regimen that all people who want to join the military," King Icil said. "Unless you want to take the entrance exam right now."
"I think I am ready to take the exam."
King Icil nodded his head, "Of course let me send you to the Examiner."
He wrote the letter to the examiner and put his royal seal on it. Once he handed it to Link he nodded as Link bowed then left.
I can't really tell if he loves my daughter or not. King Icil thought, Since he saved Hyrule from Ganon I think he'd be perfect as the next King of Hyrule.
Once Link left he ran into Zelda on the way out.
"Link what are you doing here?" Zelda asked clearly surprised.
"I decided to take your offer on joining the Hylian Military." Link said, "Impa came and convinced me."
"I know she told me that you would think about it." Zelda said, "Besides I bet my father decided to put you through the ropes of training for the Hylian Military."
"Actually," Link said, "He actually asked me if I would like to take the entrance exam right away."
Zelda looked at him, "Really, that doesn't really sound my father."
"I guess he saw some potential in me."
"I think that is the case," Zelda said, "You know your father was one of the youngest person to ever join the Hylian Military."
Link looked at her, "Really."
"Yeah, but that was back to when I was only just a little girl." Zelda said, "Well, I better let you get to the examiner."
Link bowed then left to enter the office of the examiner. Then Zelda sighed, Even though I have the Triforce of Wisdom, I can't sense what he's feeling. Zelda thought, Normally I can sense what people are feeling.
Meanwhile in Zora's domain
King Zora was eating a fish with his daughter Princess Ruto.
"Have you thought about who you would want to marry?" King Zora asked.
Princess Ruto looked at him and nodded. "Yes father, I have."
"Do you want to tell me who?"
"Not really because I don't know if he feels the same way that I feel about him."
"Is it because of that or is it because you don't know if I would approve of it." King Zora asked, "Besides I have a gut feeling that it isn't someone here who lives in the domain."
Princess Ruto's mouth dropped in shock which confirmed his gut feeling. (A/N Just to let you know Link still saved Ruto from inside Lord Jabu- Jabu)
"Well, if you would like to know his name is Link."
"Are you talking about the kid I sent to rescue you from inside Lord Jabu-Jabu?" King Zora asked.
"Yes, I thought he was cute and he was very cool looking when he used his sword to defeat the monsters that infested Lord Jabu-Jabu."
King Zora looked at his daughter, "Well, I think he really likes Zelda the Princess of Hyrule."
"I don't believe he does." Ruto snapped, "Because when I last talked to him he was very shy around me."
"And when was this?" King Zora asked.
"A couple days ago."
"How come he didn't come and see me either?" King Zora asked.
"He told me that he just came here to see me," Princess Ruto responded, "But before that he wouldn't stop staring at me."
"What did you do?"
"I asked why did he want to see me but he just blushed then ran off."
King Zora shook his head, "How can someone stare evil in the eye but when it comes to other things they don't do so well."
"Why are you doing this father?"
"It's because I don't want to see you hurt." King Zora responded, "But I'm not going to stop him from visiting you."
"That's all I can ask."
Once Link was finished with the entrance exam he left the castle and headed east to Kakariko Village to meet someone who is going to let him rent a house there. As soon as he got there Mutoh the Head Carpenter greeted him.
"Hey Link are you the one who is going to rent this house here?"
Link nodded his head, "Yes, sir I am and I have the 600 rupee deposit."
"Where did a kid like you get this much money?" Mutoh asked, "I mean what are you able to do."
"I mainly helped people with monster infestations." Link answered, "Is it a problem that I'm a kid?"
Mutoh shook his head, "No it's not a problem but where are your parents?"
"I don't have any parents."
"I've been on my own for about 3 years now mainly living in Motels." Link replied, "But I decided it's about time for me to get my own place."
"May I ask you a question?"
Link nodded his head, "Yes, of course."
"How are you going to pay you rent in the future?"
"I took the entrance exam for the Hylian military and once a get a letter to say I passed it I will be stationed here as a guard."
"Aren't you a little to young to be in the Hylian Military."
Link took out his sword and swung it around to show him the sword techniques that he has.
"Mutoh just leave him alone," A voice said behind them, Link turned around and saw Impa.
"Lady Impa, I didn't know you were coming to visit," Mutoh said.
"I just came to personally deliver a letter directly from the King of Hyrule for Link."
Link looked at Mutoh whose mouth was wide open. Once he took the letter from Impa once he opened it up.
Dear Link,
I'd like to congratulate you on passing the entrance exam. The examiner had nothing but high praises for your ability to use a sword and a bow. But he did say you needed to work on using a spear. I just told him to not worry about it because I want you to use something you are comfortable with. I will send your uniform to Kakariko Village
Sincerely,
Icil, King of Hyrule
P.S. My daughter was overjoyed to find out that you passed the entrance exam as am I.
Link showed Mutoh the letter, "Well, Link it seems that everything is in order."
"Congratulations Link," Impa said. "On the entrance exam and finding you a place for you to live all at the young age of 13."
"Impa, do you know how old my father was when he joined the Hylian Military?" Link asked. "I mean I never really knew my parents at all because they died when I was a baby."
"He was 14 and your mother was 16," Impa replied. "Well, you need to check out your place."
Link nodded, "I'll see you later Impa."
Mutoh looked to Link, "The way you talk to Impa and the way she talks to you it sounds like you two are old friends."
"May I please have the key," Link asked clearly tired.
Mutoh took it out of his pocket and handed it to him. "I hope you are comfortable because the reason why the deposit was so high because it is furnished."
"What does that mean?" Link asked.
"It means that it already has the basic furniture."
"Oh okay."
The Next Morning
Link woke up and got ready to head to Zora's Domain to visit Ruto again to apologize for just running off. As soon as he got to Zora's Domain King Zora greeted him
"Ah, Link it's great to see you again."
Link bowed, "Your Majesty, I'm looking for Princess Ruto."
"She's actually behind you."
"Really Dad, I was going to try to sneak up on him and scare him." Ruto pouted, "What brings you here again?"
"I came to apologize for running off on you."
Ruto shook her head, "No, it's quite alright."
"It's actually not, it was actually rude of me especially since you are a princess."
"Don't worry about it."
Link looked at her, "I wanted to let you know that I got me a place in Kakariko Village."
"Wait," King Zora said, "Are you saying you got your own house at the age of 13?"
Link nodded his head, "Yes, Your Majesty and I joined the Hylian Military."
"That's very grown up of you." King Zora said, "So I'm sure you know how much responsibility it is to own a house."
"I actually, don't own it," Link said, "I'm actually renting it."
"You know you would always be welcome here too," Ruto said. "Isn't that right Dad?"
King Zora nodded his head, "Yes of course."
Once Link got back to Kakariko village there was a package at his front door. He picked it up as he got his keys out. As soon as he shut his door and locked it back he went to the table and opened the package and found a fresh uniform. He went to the bathroom to try it on. Once he was fully dressed he strapped his sword and shield on his back. He turned back and forth in front of the mirror.
I wonder what Ruto would think if she saw me in this. He thought as he changed back into his other clothes.
