Lois and Clark's hearts stopped when they heard Sarah running out of the barn saying the boys were hurt. Clark wanted to use his super speed but couldn't with everyone watching. When Clark reached the barn, he started to move the beams. When Lois got there Clark had found the boys. Jon was screaming and crying, one of the beams was on top of his right leg. Jordan appeared fine although scared. Lana and Kyle came into the barn at this time. Kyle ran over to Clark and told Lana to call 911. Kyle said, "Clark, I'll help you move the beam off Jon's leg". Clark helped Jordan out of the center of the pile. Lois held onto Jordan, while Clark and Kyle moved the beam off Jon.

Clark came down to the ground holding Jon's hand, telling him "It's going to be okay. You're going to be fine". Lois left Jordan with Sam and moved to be with Jon. Lois grabbed Jon's hand and started to wipe the tears away from Jon's eyes. Lois "Shhh Shhh baby you're going to be okay. I'm not going to leave you". Clark never felt fear like this before. He kept looking at Jon and he was crying and in pain.

The EMTs came at this time and had Lois and Clark move to Jon's head so they could work on him. Clark knew these EMTs as they were at school with him, Noah and Eli. Noah began cutting off Jon's clothes, while Eli was placing a neck brace and oxygen mask on Jon. Eli asked what his name was and what hurt. Jon did his best to answer him but was having a hard time focusing on the questions. Jon - "Jon, my leg". Clark was amazed at how fast the EMTs began to take care of Jon. Clark could really see the damage the beams had done to Jon now that the EMT cut his clothes off.

Noah was tending to Jon's leg and Jon let out a scream and tried to get up when Noah touched it. Clark, Noah and Eli held Jon down while Lois tried to calm him down. Eli quickly inserted an IV in Jon's hand. To start to give Jon some pain medication. Jon was still screaming and fighting to get up. Lois was crying too as she was failing to get Jon to calm down. Noah told Eli to give him some medication that I had never heard of before. Noah turned to me and Lois and said it was a sedative. Noah "He will still be aware of what is happening, but it will calm him down and let us work on him. If he has any other injuries, we need to find them and we don't want him to make this worst." Eli readied a huge needle and then asked Clark and Lois to help distract Jon and hold him down so they could give him the injection. Eli moved to Jon's waist. Lois began talking to Jon and was trying to get him to look at her, but Jon was aware enough to know what was going on and he did not want to be sedated. Jon "No stop please don't do that". Eli stuck the needle in, and Jon cried louder.

After the injection it took only a few moments before Jon stopped moving so much and seemed to be calmer. Jon was looking at me and Lois and blinking. Lois went back to talk to Jon telling him he would be fine. I just continued to rub his head to let him know I was there. Noah finished his assessment of Jon's leg and stated he has a crush injury which will need surgery. Calrk and Lois both let out a breath they didn't know they were holding. Jon was out of it now, they said he would know what's going on, but it seemed more like he didn't as his eyes kept looking around the barn. Noah placed a bandage on Jon's leg and stated they needed to get Jon to the hospital. Eli and Noah moved Jon onto a back board and then onto a gurney, then placed a blanket over him. They started moving him and Lois and I instinctively started moving with him, Lois holding Jon's hand the whole time. Once they reached the ambulance Clark looked behind him and asked Sam to stay with Jordan. Both looked very worried, and Sam stated "yep, just keep us updated". Clark also told Kyle and Lana thank you. Clark climbed into the back of the ambulance after Lois got in.

On the way to the hospital Jon was just looking between me and Lois as if he thought we would leave at any moment. The ambulance ride on the way to the hospital was uneventful. Jon was stable and the bleeding from his leg was under control, Noah reported. Once they got to the hospital the doors of the ambulance were opened to a hold team of doctors and nurses. They started pulling Jon out of the ambulance and talking quickly about x-rays, starting anti-biotics, and doing a full body check for hidden injuries.

Jon was placed in trauma one and the sheet covering him was removed. The doctor introduced herself as Dr. Sarah Smith the pediatric doctor on call. Dr. Smith began looking at Jon's leg and informed me and Lois they wanted to get an x-ray first, but he would likely need surgery to repair the injuries. Lois signed forms permitting the surgery. Jon "M..Mom?". He was scared and couldn't see me or Lois any longer. A Nurse led us up to Jon's head and Lois began rubbing his head and said, "I am here baby and so is Dad". The nurses and doctors felt up and down all of Jon's body to ensure there was not another injury. I did a quick x-ray of my own and saw the only broken bones in his right leg up to his hip. The bones looked like they were in a million pieces. Clark was not sure how they planned to fix it. The X-Ray was completed, and the doctors saw what Clark had seen earlier. Dr. Smith - "This is a bad crush injury. We need to do surgery now."

Just then the new doctor walked in, and Dr. Smith greeted her. Dr. Smith "Hi Dr. White this is the x-rays for his leg". Dr. White looked at them and then turned to Lois and I. Dr. White "Hi I am Dr. Amy White the Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon here. How old is your son?" Lois "He is 14". Dr. White "Okay, for this surgery I will need to insert some steel rods in his legs on the inside and outside to give his leg time to properly heal. He will need the outside rods for about 2-3 months. Then I will take them off. He will need to go to physical therapy for a few months after to learn to walk on his leg again". I was so shocked and wasn't sure what to say. Lois started to cry. Clark "He plays football, will he be able to do that again?". Dr. White "We won't know what his limitations will be until he begins physical therapy as normally there will be some physical limitations due to the injury. I say likely he will not be able to but let's wait and see how it heals". Clark started to pray that he would make a full recovery and be able to play football again. Jon would be so upset if he could not play again.

2 hours after they reached the hospital, Jon was being taken back for surgery. The sedatives had worn off and Jon was talking to Lois and me. The doctor had given Jon some good pain medication, so he was not currently in away pain and was keeping a conversation with us. Jon was scared and so were Lois and me. We didn't talk about football but did tell him about the surgery and physical therapy he will have to do. A nurse came in and shaved Jon's leg from ankle to his groin to Jon's dismay. He had a hospital gown on now, that a nurse dressed him, and the nurse had to pull it up to do the shaving. The Nurse said since Jon was 14, Lois and I can walk down with him and go into the operating room while they put Jon to sleep to help keep Jon calm.

2 nurses came and began to wheel Jon down the hall with Lois and I following behind. They pushed Jon into the operating room, and I could tell he was panicking. He reached for Lois's hand and held on tight. They told Jon they were going to move him to the operating table and to let them do all the work, so he doesn't hurt his leg anymore as it is. They counted to three and 4 nurses lifted him and placed him on the table. They laid him down and pulled down the top of his gown and began putting heart rate monitor stickers on his chest. Lois came over to him once they moved him onto the table and grabbed his hand again. I was at his feet rubbing his uninjured leg.

They said they were going to put in the anesthesia. Lois kissed Jon's forehead and said, "We will be in the waiting room and will be with you when you wake up". I walked up and kissed him on the forehead too. Lois "We love baby, see you in a little bit". The nurse placed the mask on Jon's face, and he breathed in a few times and then was asleep. They put something in his IV bag and then pulled the rest of the gown off to set up the operation sheets to cover the area that isn't going to be operated on. Lois kissed the now unconscious Jon one more time before we were led out there to wait.

Lois called Sam, to let him and Jordan, know what is going on. Then we settled in the lobby waiting room for the longest wait of our lives. 4 hours later and Lois was getting nervous. Lois "They should have been done by now. It's been 4 hours. Do you think something happened"? Clark "No, they are probably being thorough Lois. Let's not worry now". Another hour passed and finally Dr. White came out. Dr. White "The surgery went well, and he is being moved to the PICU for recovery". Lois and I looked at each other and I never felt more relieved in my life. Lois "Can we see him?" Dr. White "Of course, come this way. Once we get there, I will start trying to get Jon to wake up. Some people have a hard time waking up and are upset. Please don't be alarmed if he becomes upset or doesn't wake up right away."

When we entered the room Jon still had the breathing tube down his throat. I was not ready to see that. Lois gasped and Dr. White looked at us. Dr. White "I'm sorry I forgot to warn you the breathing tube was still in from surgery. Here I will take it out now." Dr. White goes around to Jon's head and unhooks some things and pulls the tube out. They tried to start to wake Jon up. It took him a few minutes and he was looking around franticly. The heart monitors began to beep. A nurse pulled Lois towards Jon. Nurse "Jon it's okay sweetie. Your Mom is right here. See? Just calm down okay. You just woke up from surgery and might still be sleepy." Jon calmed once he saw Lois and she took his hand in hers once again. Jon looked down at his leg and started to panic again when he saw the steel rods in them. He began to cry a little. Lois " Shhh Shhh baby we talked about this okay. It will be okay. It's only for a little while so your leg can heal". Jon started to calm down.

The next few days were a blur. Me and Lois stayed with Jon in the hospital. He was having a hard time coming to terms with the injury. Lois would sleep in the bed with Jon and me on the couch. Jon would become very nervous if he was left alone. So, Lois and I would take turns leaving the hospital to go check in Jordan and shower and change our clothes. Sam stayed with Jordan so Lois and I could both stay with Jon at night. Jon was managing the pain well with the help of the medications.

On day 2 though Jon spiked a fever from an infection. Jon was talking to Lois and then suddenly stopped and said he didn't feel good. Lois walked up to him and felt his head. She gasped and hit the nurse call button. I ran up and felt Jon's head too and it was burning up. The nurse came in and took Jon's temperature. Nurse "103, you have a high fever Jon. Let me call the doctor and we will start you on some fever reducers."

Jon was in and out of sleep and starting to become delirious at times from the fever. They came in every 15 minutes to check his fever. It wasn't going down at all. Dr. Smith "Let's try a cool sponge bath". Jon whined at this, and I tried to tell him it wouldn't be bad, but he rolled his eyes at me. They took all of Jon's covers and took his gown down to his waist. They brought in wash clothes and bowls full have cool water. They asked if Jon would prefer me and Lois to do the sponge bath or want a nurse to do it. Jon "I don't know. I guess mom and dad?" Nurse "Okay I will take them through what to do and leave and come back in 15 minutes to check your temperature okay". Nurse "Mr. and Mrs. Kent you'll just wash the cool wash clothes over his body okay. If need to get the entire body but the most important places to hit are his forehead, neck, armpits, groin and feet. Okay? Any questions?" Clark "No thank you". With that the nurse walked out and Lois and I were left to take care of Jon.

They came 15 minutes later and took his temperature and it had gone down to 103.4. They asked if we would continue to do this for another 15 minutes. Lois "Of course". We began again with wiping Jon down with the clothes with Jon being in a deep sleep as he didn't even move when they took his temperature again. At this time Jordan and Sam walked in. Jordan and Sam both looked confused when they saw us giving Jon a bed bath. Jordan "what are doing?" Clark "Jon has a high fever and he we are trying to get it down" Lois and I continued to wash him with Sam and Jordan watching. The Nurse came back in and took Jon's temperature again. The nurse announced, "102, nice job Mom and Dad".

Jon's temperature completely went away by day 5 and Jon was being discharged. Dr. White "Jon will be on strict bed rest for a while and can only get out of bed with help for the bathroom and to come to appointments. I mean it, Jon you need to help to the bathroom, bathing and anything that involves you moving". Clark "don't worry Dr. Smith, Jon is going to follow the rules". Dr. Smith "Good, please bring him to the ER if his fever comes back or he is feeling a lot of pain." Lois "We will".

They left the hospital with Jon wheeled to the car. Clark helped Jon get into the car and buckled his seat belt. Lois sat in the back with Jon and Jordan sat up front with me. When we got home since I can now use my powers freely, I went around and opened Jon's door and lifted him out of the car into my arms carrying him bridal style. Jon protested "No, Dad put me down I'm not a baby." Clark "Jon you cannot walk and you're lucky I have super strength or else it be me and your mom carrying you. By the way we moved your bed downstairs so we can have you close and help when needed". Jon "Great". Clark walked into the house and put Jon on his bed in his new bedroom. Lois "Okay Jon let's get you settled in, and I'll make some lunch".
