Fall writing prompt #5: Halloween! (This could be a WFS version of it, or a modern AU! Whatever you want to try :D)
Kalmar Wingfeather was known for being super energetic and happy. Everyone loved him for it, and he could always bring a smile to even the most sour person's face. So, when Halloween came around, Kalmar was ecstatic, to say the least.
"Can you believe it? We're going to go get candy too!" Kal kept telling his older brother, 15 year old Janner.
Janner sighed, and set his book down on the seat beside him where he sat on the couch. "Yes Kal, you've told me over a hundred times."
Kal kept on grinning. "And we can dress up! What're you going as?"
"The annoyed Throne Warden, that's what."
"Ooh, cool costume, can't wait to see it." Kal said.
Janner rolled his eyes, then stood up. "I'm going to the kitchen to see Sara. Don't get into any trouble while I'm gone."
Kal nodded as Janer walked out of the library. Good, it leaves me some time to prepare my costume. Kal thought while grinning.
A week later, it was Halloween. All of Anniera was prepared and ready for the day. Annieran children were excited for the candy. Parents enjoyed the excitement of the children. But everyone mostly treasured the normalness of the day, like how it was before the Fangs took over.
"Alright children, are you ready?" Nia asked.
Everyone nodded.
Leeli had dressed in her clothes that she wore to the Houndry, claiming that she was going as a dog care-taker. Kalmar had dressed in his play clothes, going as a farmer boy (which he would not give answers as to why). Sara, since a Hollish school had started in Anniera, had started going to the Durgan guild with the boys, so she took Janner's idea and dressed in her Durgan uniform. Janner decided to just dress as a Throne Warden, but in his Durgan uniform. He dressed darker because he knew Kalmar would want to prank and scare some people, so darker clothes helped.
Nia told the teenagers that they could just wander around the island, believing that they would be safe. Kalmar was very happy to not have adult supervision, to Janner's dismay.
"Alright, everyone listen to Janner. Be good, and don't cause trouble." At this last part Nia looked at Kalmar, who grinned sheepishly.
"I'll make sure he doesn't kill anyone." Janner said jokingly.
"And I'll make sure he doesn't kill Janner." Sara added, laughing.
Nia laughed, then sent them on their way.
"Alright! Where should we go first?" Kal asked.
Everyone shrugged. "You're king, you lead." Leeli said.
Kal grinned, then challenged everyone to a race into the town. He won big time, with Janner behind him, Sara tailing Janner, and Leeli not even trying.
"Alright-woah there's a lot of people out." Kalmar, ahead of the group, said while looking out. All through the town, children and families ran around, collecting candy.
"There's so many people out..." Leeli murmured. "I wonder if Thorn is out too."
Kal looked around, then grinned. "He is, see?" Kal pointed at a small booth in the middle of town, where the happy barks of puppies were heard. Two lone figures stood watch, while some people came around and bought puppies.
Leeli squealed, then took off after the booth.
Janner laughed. "We'd better stop her before she takes all the pups home."
The three teenagers ran after her, and finally reached her as she lifted one puppy up.
"It's so cute!" Leeli said happily.
Thorn, who just now noticed the others, smiled. "He's only a few weeks old, could use a nice home."
Janner groaned. "Not another pup."
Leeli grinned mischievously. "Yes, another pup."
Sara and Kalmar laughed as Janner fixed them with a glare.
The children invited Thorn to go out with them, and after convincing Kelvey to watch the booth where they were selling puppies, the 5 teenagers walked around town collecting candy. They were out almost all night, and when they parted with Thorn and headed back home, they all collapsed on the family room and fell instantly asleep.
