"You can't be serious," Ariane protested and rose from her seat. "Sending us to public school? As if our lives aren't on display enough."
Phillip, her uncle and Prince Consort of Illéa sighed. "Look, Ariane, it's not just my decision. Although the castes have been dismantled, there is still a lot of prejudice towards those that have attended public school instead of being educated by private tutors. Therefore, parliament thought it would be beneficial to enroll you and your sister in public school to help eliminate the stigma."
Ariane narrowed her eyes on the man. "I assume we don't have a say in this?" She questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm afraid not, you start on Monday," Phillip responded. The Crown Princess had taken it exactly as he had expected her to. Though in her case it seemed rather pointless to switch up her schooling. She would be starting in grade eleven with only two years left. He then glanced at Savannah, the Princess Royale. She had been more reclusive than ever, but she had just lost her parents, a change in behaviour was to be expected. "And what do you think of this, Sav?"
Savannah shrugged. "Does it really matter?" she mumbled.
Phillip would be lying if he were to say he wasn't worried about how Savannah would adapt to public school. She was far more quiet and shy than her older sister. Which worked out fine, one was the heir and the other the spare. But, kids he heard, could be cruel. They'd eat the Princess Royale alive. Of course he wouldn't know, having been raised in isolation at the palace alongside the late Queen, Emry.
"Is that all you wanted, uncle?" Ariane asked.
"I also wanted to see how you two are doing, with everything. I know the funeral must have been hard on you, but you both did exceptionally well," Phillip said.
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" Savannah questioned. "Our parents are dead."
"I know, and I know how hard this must be-"
"No you don't!" Savannah shouted, cutting her uncle off. She crossed her arms and sunk lower into her seat on the couch.
"Sav," Ariane said softly. She reached an arm out, but her sister swatted it away, then rose to her feet and rushed out of the room, slamming the door behind her.
Phillip let out a sigh. "There's a lot of changes happening, I'm aware of that. But the mourning period is coming to an end, and life must resume as normal. You should prepare yourself for that," he warned, locking eyes with Ariane.
"I guess pity only lasts so long," Ariane mused. "I should check on Savannah."
"Don't, give her some time to cool off." Phillip advised as he crossed his arms.
Ariane nodded, deciding that her uncle was right, maybe it was best to give Savannah some alone time. Then, an idea hit her. "I have one condition for us going to public school."
"And that would be?" Phillip asked.
"We get new wardrobes, if we're expected to blend in, we should be able to dress how we want, not like we're representing the monarchy everyday."
"Deal," Phillip said, glad to see at least one of his nieces accepting this new concept.
Welcome to my SYOC!
I've seen a few High School SYOCs for the Selection, but none ever actually get finished. So, submissions permitting, I will attempt to actually write this.
The concept is simple: Crown Princess Ariane and Princess Royale Savannah are forced by parliament and their uncle to attend public school. Ariane will start in grade 11 at the age of 17, and Savannah in grade 9 at the age of 14.
Now, this needs to be more of a cohesive cast, since it is a high school cast. So your character should be associated with either princess. Could be as a friend, rival, or bully, etc. I'm asking you to ask before submitting, so I'm not going to post a character form or anything. Basically, send me your idea (via PM) and then we'll discuss to see if it can fit into the story.
Thanks.
