Chapter one
"Where the heck are we?" Asked one Dan Kuso as he scratched his head in confusion. He looked at the strange room he was in, it looked like one a standard living room but he knew there was more to it.
"I do not know Daniel. Though, there is perhaps a reason for us being here." Dan's partner, Drago, said. The Bakugan sat on top of Dan's shoulder to get a better view.
"Well, I can say we ain't anywhere on earth." Julie spoke.
"What makes you say that Julie?" Runo asked.
"I dunno, just a feeling I guess." Julie shrugged.
Shun looked around for any possible exit, he noticed Marucho doing the same thing. "Any luck Marucho?" He asked the short blonde boy.
The boy shook his head, "Sorry, though it looks like a regular living room, but there's something odd about it." Marucho admitted.
His partner, Preyas, hopped onto his shoulders. "Don't Marucho! I'm sure we'll find a way back home in no time!" The Aquos Bakugan exclaimed.
"Preyas is right Marucho, we must be patient if we want to go back home." Skyress said as she hopped on Shun's shoulder.
Marucho gave the two Bakugan a smile of gratitude.
Suddenly, a bright light appeared in the middle of the room. This caused the teens to back away as they had no idea what was going to happen. However when the light died down they were confused as there was now a book before them. On the cover of the book was a note that said 'read me'.
"A book?" Marucho asked in confusion as he picked it up.
"Wait, we have to read this book?" Runo asked.
"Ah man, I hate reading!" Dan whined.
"Well, we can't do anything about it. And I'm guessing that whoever brought us here wants us to read this book." Shun said.
Everyone looked at one another. They didn't know why they were brought here but Shun's reasoning seems to make the most sense.
"I guess I'll start reading then." Marucho said as he and everyone else took a seat. Their Bakugan partners took their spot on their shoulders.
Marucho opened the book and started reading.
~
Chapter 1: New Beginnings! Enter Yuji Shujin!
~
"Yuki Shujin?" Julie asked.
"He's probably the guy this book is about." Runo replied.
Julie simply nodded as Marucho continued reading.
~
I know this is gonna sound weird.
But one day, my whole world changed…
A young man dressed in a short red jacket with a yellow shirt underneath, and red pants, stared up into the sky.
All around him were black cards that were falling from the sky. He opened up his hands, allowing a card to land in his palm.
~
"Hey that's me!" Dan said as he realized that the book was describing him.
"So I would seem, Daniel." Drago said
Alice hummed to herself. "Judging by what Marucho said, this seems like the moment Bakigan came to earth." The Russian girl said.
"Indeed you are correct Miss Alice." Skytress said.
"So, this story is about us?" Gorem, Julie's partner, spoke up.
"It seems so, but I am not entirely sure." Skytress said.
"Let us keep reading to find out more." Tigrerra added.
Everyone nodded as they continued to do so.
~
You see cards started dropping from the sky. Coming down like rain.
At first, we didn't know where they were all coming from or who sent them.
But all we knew is that they were more than just ordinary playing cards.
A young girl with milky white skin and blue hair, tied into pig-tails, stared out of her window, as the same black cards were dropping from the sky. She opened up her window, allowing one of them to land inside of her room.
And it was happening all around the world!
A young man with long black hair sat on a grassy hill. He watched as one of the cards landed right next to him.
In the North.
A girl with light brown hair stood in the snow, staring perplexed at the black card.
The South.
A small boy with blond hair and red glasses, wearing blue swim trunks, kneeled down on the sand. He stared down at the crab that held the same black card.
They landed everywhere!
Waking up from her slumber was a young girl with tanned skin and long gray hair. She rubbed her eyes, finding a black card laying on her pillow.
Together with my new online friends from around the world, we invented a wicked new game we called: Bakugan!
That's when the power of the cards was revealed! Each one held its own battling beast that came to life when you threw it down.
Two small kids were seen standing in a blank void. The cards in their hands opened up, revealing two Bakugan. The creatures came to life and began to battle each other.
The battles were intense! And if you chose the wrong card, you lost it and the beast inside!
But that's only half the story…
Another even bigger battle was taking place in a parallel universe called: Vestroia!
The young man from the start was shown, standing behind him was a giant red dragon named Drago.
My name is Dan! And together with my friends:
Runo!
The girl with blue twin tails was shown, a giant black and white tiger named Tigrerra stood behind her. She dropped down next to Dan.
Marucho!
The little boy stood on the other side of Dan. Behind him was a large blue amphibian Bakugan named Preyas was right behind him.
Julie!
The girl with tanned skin and gray hair was next. She dropped down next to Marucho. Behind her was a brown titan of a Bakugan named Gorem.
Mr. Hotshot himself - Shun!
Shun dropped down next to Runo. His long black ponytail blew with the wind as he gave off a lone wolf air around him. Behind him was a large green bird-like Bakugan named Skyress.
And Alice!
The last member was a girl with light brown hair. She dropped down next to Shun, but unlike everyone else she didn't have a Bakugan behind her.
We are…
THE BAKUGAN BATTLE BRAWLERS!
~
"Looks like all of us are there." Julie said.
Everyone nodded at this.
~
….
….
However…this story isn't about us.
Standing across from the Battle Brawlers was a young man with tanned skin and black spiky hair. He wore a white hoodie with white and yellow pants. His light blue eyes stared at each one of the Brawlers with anticipated excitement.
~
"I'm guessing that this is Yuji Shujin." Tigrerra said.
"I wonder what he looks like." Julie wondered.
Given the description from the book, this Yuji seemed to be their age. Though they weren't completely sure.
Suddenly, a TV spuroted from one of the shelves. Everyone was surprised by this. The screen then turned on to show Yuji. The battle brawlers took in the boy's appearance, all of them had various reactions.
"Wow, that's Yuji? He seems like a cool guy to hang around with." Dan commented.
"Judging by his appearance, I'm guessing he's a Haos brawler." Drago added.
This got Runo and Tigrerra to look at the Pyros dragon.
"What makes you say that Drago?" Runo asked.
"Call it a hunch." Drago replied.
Shun hummed to himself, before turning to Marucho. "What do you think of him, Marucho?" The stoic teen asked.
"I am not entirely sure, there's not enough information on him for me to make a judgment." The short boy added.
Shun simply nodded as he agreed with the young Aquos brawler.
"Well, I think he's kinda cute. Huh Alice?" Julie said. However, she didn't get a reply. The Subterra user turned to her friend and found her staring at the picture of Yuji intently. Julie also saw that Alice's face had a pinkish tint to it. Julie looks at Alice, then to the screen, and then back to Alice. A playful smile soon creeped on Julie's face.
"Oh, what's this? Little Alice is having a crush on the new guy?" Julie teased her friend.
Alice snapped out of her daze. "W-what? I-I-I d-don't know what y-you m-mean." Alice stuttered.
"Sure you do." Julie giggled lightly.
~
Behind this boy was a large white and yellow dragon. His long white horn glistened from the light; his yellow beastly orbs were hungry for battle. The dragon's claws were dangerously sharp as if ready to tear something apart.
~
The screen then changed to show said dragon. Everyone was caught off guard by the sight of Yuji's Bakugan partner. It was unlike any Bakugan they had seen before. Drago looked at the Bakugan with unease, though he didn't exactly know why. The same could be said with the other Bakugan.
"Man, that's one scary looking Bakugan." Preyas stuttered.
"No kidding." Gorem added.
Shun turned to his partner. "Have you seen that Bakugan before Skytress?" He asked.
"No." Skytress answered before turning to Tigrerra. "Tigrerra? Do you know him?"
Tigrerra shook her head. "I apologize, I am unfamiliar with that Bakugan."
"I believe we will find out if we keep watching." Drago spoke up.
~
The boy lifted up a black card and the Brawlers responded the same. There was still quiet between them all, before the boy opened his mouth.
"BAKUGAN, BRAWL!"
Purple lightning cracked across the sky, thunder so loud that the earth below rumbled from its might. The dark purple sky illuminated a sickly air around the world, dark gray clouds surfed below the sky.
The ground below was ashy gray, littered around it were dead bodies of large creatures resembling Bakugan. Their bodies were cracked in places, eyes bleached white after losing the life within them.
This soulless world felt empty and quiet, the only noise being the thunder and lightning.
~
The description of the place Marucho was reading made everyone feel uneasy. However, for the Bakugan they place the young Aquos user was describing seemed very familiar.
'Hmmm. Could it be?' Drago thought to himself.
"Man, that place sure sounds creepy." Dan spoke out loud.
"You said it." Runo agreed with her boyfriend(?).
Suddenly, the screen changed to show the image of the place Marucho was reading about. This caused the brawlers to gasp out in shock. The sight of so many lifeless Bakugan was off-putting and horrifying to them. The Bakugan themselves on the other hand went stiff with fear. As they recognized what this place was.
"T-that's…that's…." Preyas stuttered.
"The Doom Dimension." Gorem finished for him.
The brawlers turned to the two Bakugan.
"The Doom Dimension?" Alice asked. Though, she couldn't help but understand why that sounded familiar to her.
"The Doom Dimension is considered the afterlife for us Bakugan." Tigrerra began to explain. "But it is also a place of death and destruction, as nothing can survive in its harsh plains."
Everyone was silent after hearing Tigrerra's explanation on what the Doom Dimension was.
"That sounds like a terrible place." Alice spoke.
"Indeed young Alice, I pray you do not find yourselves trapped there. For there is no return from the Doom Dimension." Drago spoke up.
~
However, a small speck of light was emitted from one of the dead bodies. It floated upwards into the sky, soon more and more specks began flying up from the corpses.
~
"Huh? What's happening?" Julie asked.
"I don't know Julie." Runo replied.
~
Each one came together, illuminating the dark world with an unfamiliar glow. The light grew larger and larger until it started to take shape. Legs, arms, feet, hands, and a head came into view. Large white and gold wings sprouted out of the creature's back, flapping to keep it floating in the air.
~
The brawlers and the Bakugan were completely shocked by what they just heard. More so the Bakugan.
"Did I hear that right or is it just me?" Preyas asked nervously.
"I can't believe it either Preyas." Gorem said to his Aquos friend.
"A Bakugan born in the Doom Dimension?" Tigrerra asked in shock. She had never heard of such a thing happening.
"Is such a thing possible?" Skytress asked.
"I'm not sure." Drago paused before he continued speaking. "I think it's best that we keep reading in order to find out more."
Everyone nodded as they decided to keep on reading.
~
Once the creature realized that it was alive, it reared its head back, and released a mighty roar into the soulless sky. Shaking the world around it with its newfound power.
Above it a purple hold tore open the sky, as if responding to the creature's desire to leave. Slitted eyes gazed at the hole before taking off towards it.
Entering the hole and forever leaving the darkness behind.
Blue eyes shot open instantly, the young man jolted awake from his seat. His head whipped around to scan his environment. Only to realize that he was still inside of his family's van, he released a sigh and slumped back into his seat. "Just a dream…" He muttered.
~
"Wait, so all of that was a dream? None of what we read earlier was real?" Asked a confused Julie.
"I don't think so Julie." Gorem said. "Though I can't help but find it strange that this Yuji is dreaming about that strange Bakugan."
"I agree with Gorem." Drago said before turning to Marucho. "Please continue reading Marucho."
Marucho nodded as he went back to reading.
~
"You okay there, son?" His father asked from the driver's seat. The man had light brown hair and deep blue eyes. He wore a white T-shirt with a light blue jacket over it and black shorts. This man was known as Ryuji Shujin.
"Yeah," He nodded his head. "Just had a weird dream," The boy answered.
"A dream? Did you wet yourself again, Yuji?" A teasing feminine voice rang out right next to him.
~
Everyone paused for a bit before they all, either giggled or laughed uncontrollably.
"Hahahaha! Oh man, this is too much!" Dan laughed as he held his sides.
~
Yuji's face turned bright red. He rounded on the younger girl next to him. "I didn't wet myself, Serena! How many times do I have to tell you!?"
"Until you stop getting all riled up from it, Yuji," Serena giggled. She had light blue hair that stretched down to her lower back. Her light blue eyes were glowing with mischief. She wore a light blue shirt with 'LOVING YOU' printed on it, and a white skirt that reached her knees.
"Serena, stop messing with your brother. You know he's sensitive about that incident," Their mother spoke from the front seat.
"Mom!" Yuji blushed.
~
Everyone laughed harder at that.
~
"Sorry, sweetheart. I couldn't resist," Their mother had black hair and light blue eyes. She was dressed in a white dress for the summer heat. Her name was Serenity Shujin.
Yuji huffed, turning his attention to the window to drown out his sister and mother's laughing. He saw the moving truck was closely following their van, reminding the young man that he and his family were moving to a new city. Which meant leaving all of his old friends behind, because of his father's work.
~
"Looks like they're just moving into town." Dan said.
"Agreed." Drago said.
~
Growing bored with just looking at the passing vehicles, Yuji pulled out his phone to distract himself. His social media feed was once again clouded up with news of the popular game Bakugan. "Not like I have much experience with it." Thinking back to his old town, he's only ever seen people talk about the game. Never being capable of getting any Bakugan himself and never being able to truly see how fun it is.
~
"Man, that Yuji guy is missing out." Dan stated.
"Well, it's like the book said Dan, he never had any Bakugan to begin with. So it is understandable why he doesn't have the same views as we do." Marucho explained.
Dan huffed gently as he crossed his arms across his chest. "Yeah, I guess you're right." He said.
~
"Which reminds me, I might as well look at the rankings…" While he didn't play the game, Yuji still kept up with the rankings. It was kinda like sports, while he never enjoyed playing them there was an odd amount of interest in seeing who was leading.
RANK 1: MASQUERADE
RANK 2: SHUN KAZAMI
~
Hearing the names of who were at the top of the rankings board made Dan grumbled a bit. He still wasn't anywhere near the top, despite playing the game when it first started.
~
"Not shocking, those two have held the top for a while now. Not even Dan Kuso, the leader of the Battle Brawlers, has reached the top yet-"
"Are you looking at the rankings again?"
"GYA!" Yuji jolted in fright, almost dropping his phone. The teenager held the phone away from his intrusive little sister. "What are you doing!?"
~
Everyone couldn't help but laugh wholeheartedly at that.
~
She rolled her eyes. "Looking at your phone, genius. I don't understand why you keep looking at the rankings. It's not like you play the game," Serena said.
~
"I mean, people do the same thing for sports such as Soccer and Football, despite not playing. I don't see how this isn't any different." Alice said.
~
Yuji blushed a bit. "I-I can look at the rankings. Just because I don't play doesn't mean that I " can't be interested in the rankings!" He defended himself.
~
Alice smiled when Yuji agreed with her. However, she caught Julie giving her a knowing look. The Russian girl simply looked away from the Subterra brawler, blushing. Which resulted in Julie giggling softly. Alice was too easy to tease sometimes.
~
Serena leaned away, huffing. "It would just be easier for you to get some Bakugan of your own. Like me," Serena reached into her bag. She pulled out three small blue Bakugan.
~
"Looks like she's a fellow Aquos brawler, huh Marucho?" Preyas asked his partner.
"Looks like it. Though I wonder which Bakugan she has." Marucho said before he went back to reading.
~
Yuji clicked his tongue. "You were just given those by a friend of yours. You've never played the game either!"
The younger sibling puffed out her chest, proudly. "Yes, but we're about to arrive at our new home. With a new school and new people to meet. I plan to use this as an opportunity to finally experience the game for myself and make new friends." She placed a finger on his chest. "Something you should consider, mister."
Yuji just lightly pushed her finger away. He grumbled to himself as he allowed his sister's word to fester in his mind. "What would be the point anyway? Not like I'll ever have the opportunity."
"Well, kids, how do you like the place?" Ryuji asked his kids.
The two children entered the house as the moving men were unloading the truck. The home was a standard two-story house, nothing about it really stood out.
~
"Simple yet cozy." Runo spoke.
~
"Well, it's not much different from our old home," Yuji answered.
"We figured that you two might feel more comfortable in a house that resembled the old one," Serenity replied.
Serena gazed around the house. "Well…what do you want us to do now?"
"Go explore!" Serenity answered, cheerfully.
"You don't want us to help?" Yuji raised an eyebrow.
"We have enough hands to help load the boxes and furniture into the house. You guys will have enough time to unpack your things and get your rooms situated once you get back," Ryuji explained.
"This is a new city! A new neighborhood! Go and see what it has to offer. Who knows, maybe you'll make some new friends," Serenity smiled.
"Yeah, as if that'll happen so quickly," Yuji sighed.
~
"You'll never know until you try it." Dan said before asking. "Hey, do you think that Yuji is going to meet us?"
Everyone pondered that thought for a minute.
"Hmm, it seems most likely. Though the question is which one of us will he meet first?" Marucho asked.
Preyas then spoke up. "If I had to guess, I'd either Dan or Alice."
Marucho turned to Preyas. "You sure?" He asked.
"Yeah!", Preyas exclaimed. "I mean, Dan does have a knack for making friends instantly."
"Thanks Preyas." Dan thanked the Aquos Bakugan.
"And chances are that when Yuji starts getting into Bakugan, he'll probably run into Alice in her shop." Preyas finished.
"You think so?" Alice asked.
"I know so." Preyas said.
"You hear that Alice, you're going to meet your crush!" Julie teased the poor girl.
Alice's face turned red. "J-Julie! I don't have a crush on Yuji!" She exclaimed in embarrassment.
Julie simply waved her finger in front of Alice's face. "Denial is more than a river in Egypt." Julie said in a sing-song voice.
Alice simply stuttered incoherently.
"Alright, Julie that's enough." Runo told her fellow brawler.
Julie said nothing but complied nevertheless. Though she still had a teasing smile on her face.
~
Serena on the other hand was pretty ecstatic that she didn't have to do any heavy lifting. "C'mon, Yuji! Let's go explore!" She grabbed his hand and began dragging him out the door.
"Ah! Serena, don't pull so hard!" Yuji cried.
Their mother followed them out of the door. "Don't stay out too long! And watch after your sister, Yuji!"
The boy looked back, nodding his head to his mother. As much as he didn't want to do this there was a feeling in his gut telling him that this day wouldn't be normal at all.
~
"We all have one of those days." Dan said.
Everyone nodded in agreement with the Pyros brawler. The day when the Bakugan first came to earth came to mind.
~
Yuji scrolled through his phone as his sister sat next to him on the park bench. She kicked her legs as she hummed a song to herself. Her blue orbs shifted over to her boring box of a brother and sighed loudly. "Can we do something?"
"We are doing something."
"No, we aren't! You're sitting there on your phone! Let's find an arcade or something?" She suggested.
"We would get lost, since we barely know our way through the city. So, sit back and relax until it's time to head home," Yuji told her. With his words said, Yuji turned his attention back to his phone.
~
"I can't blame him for thinking that. They are in a city that they are unfamiliar with and they could get lost very easily." Shun said.
"Indeed." Skytress said, agreeing with her partner.
~
Serena huffed loudly, not knowing why she even bothered trying to convince him. "I'm gonna explore the park," She got up from the bench.
"Don't go too far," He glanced at her.
"Yeah yeah." Serena walked over to the fountain. Sighing in exasperation, she stared down at the fountain with bored eyes. "Wish there was something fun to do around here…"
"You're the coolest, Shuji!"
~
"Wait, Shuji?" Dan asked with a raised brow.
"It would seem that Yuji and Serena met Shuji first." Drago spoke up.
Dan nodded, "I could already see where this is going." He said.
The other brawlers, who are familiar with Shuji, couldn't help but nod in agreement. That guy was annoying and trying to pick Bakugan fights with them.
~
"Hm?" Serena glanced at the new voice. Looking over she found two other kids walking into the park. One of them looked to be a boy around her age, he had short red hair with a white baseball cap on his head. A green shirt on and gray shorts.
The person next to him was older and larger. A teenager who looked to be around Yuji's age, wearing a white T-shirt and yellow jacket with dark green pants on.
~
"Great, Akira is there too." Runo stated with a groan and rolled her eyes. She couldn't stand those two as they were some of the most annoying people she had met. Just below Dan.
Dan meanwhile, couldn't help but feel insulted for some reason.
~
"You bet, Akira! I'm the best brawler in town!" Shuji boasted.
~
The brawlers and their partners couldn't help but snort a little at Shuji's claim.
~
Serena snorted when she heard that, unluckily for her the snort was loud enough for the boys to pick up. Both glared at her, causing Serena to flinch slightly. "You got something you want to say, brat?"
Serena backed away as the boys started to approach. "Uh…I was just shocked by what you said."
"What was so shocking about it?" Shuji asked, glaring at her.
She probably should've kept her mouth shut, but that was always something she struggled with. "I mean, how can you be the best brawler in town when you don't even rank in the top 10?"
~
"Pfft, hahaha!" Dan laughed at the words Serena said to Shuji. Soon some of the others joined in as well. They couldn't help but agree with Serena. After a few more minutes of laughing, Marucho continued reading.
~
Her words seemed to have infuriated him more, Shuji blew steam out of his nose like a bull. "What was that punk!? Are you insulting my skills or something!?"
"If it's taking you this long to realize that, then you must be slow-" Serena covered her mouth.
"That's it! Shuji, teach this little girl a lesson!" Akira barked.
"Little!? I'm taller than you, brat!" Serena yelled, insulted.
"Brat!? Now, you're insulting my little brother!? You better get your Bakugan out, kid!" Shuji stepped threateningly closer to Serena.
The younger girl began to panic. "YUJI! HELP!" She cried for her brother.
~
"Jerks." Alice said.
"Don't worry Alice, her big brother is coming to help." Julie reassured her friend.
~
Her cries were heard since the teenager looked up from his phone. His eyes widened when he saw Shujin stepping dangerously close to Serena. Putting his phone back into his pocket quickly, Yuji ran towards the conflict and stepped in front of Serena. "Back off, man! I'm sure whatever reason you're upset for isn't a big deal!"
Shuji scoffed. "Not a big deal? Your little sister here insulted my brawling skills! Ain't nobody insults my skills and gets away with it!"
~
"Still not a reason to attack a little girl." Alice said with a frown on her face. She let out a huff as she crossed her arms across her chest.
~
"Yeah, well if you need to attack a little girl to validate your skills then you must be the worst brawler in town!" Yuji shouted. The park was silent after Yuji's declaration, everyone (Especially Serena) was blown back by the boy's anger.
Shuji and Akira regained their composure and got ready to attack. Shuji stepped forward. "If that's what you think, kid. Then I'll just have to beat you down with my brawling skills!"
Now THAT made Yuji back down slightly. "Oh…I-I…uh don't have any Bakugan…"
…
…
…
"Pfft! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Shuji and Akira erupted into laughter. Both Shujin siblings blushed from the mocking laughter. "What kind of kid doesn't have any Bakugan of their own?" Akira asked.
~
Almost everyone sweatdropped at that. They all completely forgot about that fact.
"Oh yeah, I forgot he doesn't have any Bakugan." Runo said.
"Me too." Julie added in.
Shun huffed briefly. "Well, that was anticlimactic." He said.
"It was a bit of a let down." Marucho said in agreement with Shun.
Dan suddenly spoke up in Yuji's defense. "Hey, Yuji may not have any experience in Bakugan but at least he has the guts to stand up for his little sister."
"Dan's right." Alice spoke.
The brawlers looked at one another before nodding. They could admit that Yuji was being brave to protect her sister from Shuji. The Bakugan did the same thing.
~
Serena glared at the red haired brat. "I have my own Bakugan!" She pulled out the three Aquas type Bakugan from her bag.
"Oh yeah? Do you at least have one of these?" Shuji pulled out a gate card.
The sight of the card made Serena back down again. "...No…dang it, Amy!" Serena cursed her friend for only giving her the Bakugan.
~
Everyone once again sweatdropped but this time didn't say anything.
~
"Hahaha! Look at you losers! Insulting my skills when you don't even have any Bakugan!" Shuji laughed.
"What's so funny, Shuji?"
Once the new voice entered his ears, Shuji's laughter ceased. His joy quickly turned into annoyance as he turned to the new arrival. "Dan!? What are you doing here!?"
~
"Looks like Dan made an appearance." Shun said.
"Yeah, at least he can help out Yuji with Shuji." Julie said.
"You can bet on it!" Dan said with a grin.
~
He wasn't the only one who was shocked, both Yuji and Serena stared at the Battle Brawler in amazement. "Dan!? You mean Dan Kuso from the Battle Brawlers!? Dude, you're all over the net!" Yuji fangirled.
~
Drago chuckled at Shuji's reaction. "Reminds me of whenever Julie fangirls over Daniel." He said.
Gorem thought about what Drago said before chuckling himself. "Heh, guess you're right Drago."
Dan hummed to himself before nodding. "Yeah that sounds about right." He said, nonchalantly.
Their words made Julie look away and blush in embarrassment.
"It's not so fun, is it?" Alice teased Julie with a smile on her face. It was nice to get a little payback.
"S-shut up." Julie said with a red face.
~
"You're like the coolest of the cool…well, Shun is hotter," Serena added.
Dan rolled his eyes at the comment. Wasn't the first time he's heard that. Turning his attention away from Shuji, he looked at Yuji. "Hey, kid. What's going on? Seems Shuji here is giving ya some trouble. Need any help?"
"H-help? I-I mean…yeah! Sure! I would love some help!" Yuji accepted. If Dan could take care of this battle, then they'd have nothing to worry about.
Dan walked over to Yuji and slung an arm around his shoulder. "Good, because you're gonna be battling."
"Yeah…WAIT WHAT!?" Yuji and Serena gaped. "B-But, I don't know how to brawl! I've never done it before!" Yuji exclaimed.
Dan was a bit shocked by it. He's never met anyone who hasn't brawled before other than Alice, but he quickly brushed it off. "Doesn't matter, I'll be coaching you along the way. Shuji's a good tutorial mission anyway."
~
"Wait, did I hear that right? Dan is going to teach someone?" Shun blinked in disbelief.
"It's not just you Shun." Runo said.
"Man, I feel bad for the poor kid." Preyas added in.
The other brawlers (minus Dan and Drago) nodded in agreement.
Dan, meanwhile, looked offended by this. "Hey! What are you guys talking about?! I'd make a pretty good teacher!"
"Daniel, there is no doubt that you are skilled when it comes to the game but…." Tigrerra trailed.
"You can be pretty immature and reckless at times. Not exactly teacher material." Runo finished.
"Don't count Dan out yet you two. After all, he does have a knack for surprising people." Drago spoke in defense of his friend.
"Thanks buddy!" Dan smiled, at least someone believed in him.
~
"Hey! I heard that, Dan!" Shuji cried.
"W-well…if I'm getting coached by the great Dan himself, then maybe I could give it a shot…" Yuji relented.
"That's all it took!? I've been trying to convince you to play since this game started!" Serena roared. Her cries went ignored by the two teenagers as Dan handed Yuji a gate card. At the same time both Akira and Shuji took theirs out.
"Oh, you might want to hold on," Dan took a hold of Serena's hand. "Now, sit tight and pay attention to my tips. If you do well enough I might not even charge you for it!"
"FIELD OPEN!"
~
"And that's the end of that chapter." Marucho said as he closed the book.
The brawlers nodded as they thought about what they just read.
"Well, that was interesting." Shun said.
"Indeed." Skytress said. Agreeing with her partner.
"Man, I wonder what else this book has in store for us." Dan said.
