It was later in the day, and the sun was beginning to set over the horizon. Kion walked up Pride Rock coming back from patrol, and he saw his family all sitting together in the den. Nala and Kiara had somber looks on their faces, as they had been told of Sarabi's illness already.

"Hi everyone, I'm back." Kion said. "Welcome home, son." Said Simba. Kion looked around the den and saw no signs of Sarabi. "Um, where's grandma?" He asked. "She went out for a short hunt." Kiara said. Kion decided to go out and look for her. He scanned the darkening savanna for the lioness, but so far Kion saw nothing.

Suddenly something caught Kion's eye. He saw a lioness tail sticking out from the tall grass. Kion could just tell that it was Sarabi from the scent, but he knew Sarabi was smart enough not to let her tail stick out when hunting, so he knew it was something else. Kion went over, and what he saw made his heart sink. Sarabi was vomiting violently onto the dirt. She gagged and gasped constantly as the bodily substances exited her body. "Hevi kabisa! Grandma, are you okay!?" Kion asked panicked. Sarabi jumped and faced Kion forcing a small smile. "I'm fine, baby… It's just-" She began throwing up again. Despite not knowing what was going on, Kion stood beside his grandmother and comforted her until all of the vomit was finally gone.

When Sarabi finished coughing, Kion decided to ask again. "Grandma, why were you throwing up so much? Are you sick?" Kion asked. Sarabi remembered what Simba had said, and she knew that there was no point in keeping it a secret anymore. "Kion, let's go sit down by that tree." Sarabi said. The two went over to the tree. "Kion, honey… There's no easy way to say this. But I'm afraid that I am sick, very sick." Sarabi started. "Okay… Well that shouldn't be too big of a problem. Maybe it's just a bug from something you ate." Kion said. It pained Sarabi to have to crush his positivity. "No Kion, it's far more serious than that… I have something called a tumor." Sarabi showed Kion the bump on her chest. "A tumor is an abnormal growth on your body that effects your organs, and brain, and just about everything else…" Sarabi said. Kion started to worry. "S-So, how exactly does it effect your body?" Kion asked. "Well, it causes your body to shut down and stop working… Eventually…" Sarabi tried to hold back her tears. "It eventually leads to death… I'm dying, Kion…"

Kion was in a state of shock, he felt a strong chill run up his legs and into his heart, and his feet were numb. He then started to cry, letting rivers come down from his eyes onto his cheeks. Kion rarely ever shows any strong emotions like this, but this time around he just couldn't hold it in. Sarabi gave Kion a hug and also began to cry herself. "I'm sorry… I'm so sorry it has to be like this…" Sarabi sobbed. "It's not fair! Why does it have to be you!?" Kion asked incoherently.

When Kion and Sarabi got themselves under control, they went back to Pride Rock and settled in for the night. Kion had trouble getting to sleep, as he could hear Sarabi coughing, and now that he knew what was causing it, he didn't feel much better. And when he saw Sarabi exit the den to vomit again, he just couldn't help but cry some more.

Kion knew deep down that there was nothing he could do to stop this, and he should just make good use of what time he has left with his grandmother before she exits the Circle of Life.
