It's two days ago since they know the truth. Harvey and Amelia still don't know how to treat each other. They both don't want anything to change but are hesitant. They haven't spoken about it anymore since Amelia came home and they hug.
Donna notices that Amelia withdraws a bit so she decides to talk to her. So when she and Amelia ar alone at home, Donna goes over and knocks on her daughter's door.
"yeah?"
Donna slowly opens the door "Hey honey, can I come in?" Amelia nods
She is lying on her bed and listen to music. She looks sad and her eyes are red so Donna knows she has cried.
"are you alright?"
Amelia takes a deep breath and looks at Donna. She then shakes her head.
"what is it honey?" Donna asks and sits on the edge of her bed.
"It's the test. It's just… I still can't believe that dad is not my father" she says with teary eyes.
"I know" Donna says stroking her hand "what if- I don't know… what if something changes for him now? I know he loves me and maybe he thinks the same the other way around but- sometimes things happen unwillingly"
"honey" Donna closes their distance "Harvey didn't care from the beginning about that. He loves you more than everything else in the world. If there is one thing I can assure you 100% is that for him nothing will change"
"but what if-" Donna shakes her head
"there are no buts. He loves you. And yeah, he thought the same the other way around 'till you assured him that he'll always be your dad" Donna smiles.
"Thank you, mom" she says and hugs Donna.
"How about a hot chocolate with a lot whipped cream?"
"sounds greats" Amelia answers with a smile and dries her tears with the back of her palms.
A few days later
"She was such a cute child" Derek says with a smile on his face. He asked Donna to show him some pictures of Amelia as a child and she agrees. Harvey knew he'll come over so he asked Mike to go for some drinks as long as he's there.
"I missed so much" he says in a sad tone.
"I'm sorry" Donna tells him honestly "I just thought you wouldn't care anyway after-"
"how could you think that of me?"
"You broke up from the one to the other second without warning… you didn't act like you cared about our relationship at all. I didn't see a reason why this should be different when I told you I'm pregnant"
"why can't you just tell me the truth, Donna? Not even now? You didn't tell me because you didn't want to lose him. He told you he doesn't care whether the child is his or not, and you wanted him 'cause you knew he'd be there no matter what and you thought I wouldn't. You didn't tell me because this was easier for you and this way you could make sure your child won't grow up without a father"
"that's not true" she says upset "I chose him because I love him not because I was scared. And just fo r your information, he wouldn't have broken up with me, even if I had told you"
Derek exhales "I'm sorry" he apologizes "I am just mad that I missed everything. She's my daughter and he's the one who raised her and saw everything I should've."
"I know and I'm sorry. we thought we're doing the right thing"
"you didn't" he says and keeps watching the photos.
"Can I have a few of them?" he asks and Donna nods "yeah of course"
Two weeks later
It's about three weeks now since Amelia knows the truth about her biological father. She's getting to know Derek better and better. Derek has a brother who's living in Australia and a sister who lives in Seattle. Both of them have children who are much younger than Amelia but she's happy anyway since she has no siblings and Mike and Rachel have no children yet.
She spends a lot of time with Derek and starts to really care about him. It is still weird for her sometimes but she's getting used to it. Her relationship with Harvey on the other hand, is going downhill again. They were already having a hard time before Derek showed up, with Amelia drinking and coming home late or not at all, and she's starting again. Derek uses the whole thing to destroy their relationship and build one with her himself.
"Where the hell have you been?" Harvey asks upset as soon as the teenager enters the apartment.
"Leave me alone, I'm not in the mood right now" she says and stumbles towards her room.
"Have you been drinking?" he asks angry
"I have, is there a problem?"
"There is a big problem" Harvey raises his voice.
"Amelia" Donna says aloud as she joins them.
"where the hell have you been? We called you a hundred of times. Do you have an idea how worried we've been?!"
"She's drunk" Harvey tells his wife
"what?" Donna looks shocked at her daughter
"oh my god" the teenager shouts "we were celebrating, why are you making such a big thing? And Derek knew anyway. I told him to tell you"
"He what?"
"yeah I told him and he said he'll tell you"
"you tell him instead of us?" Harvey asks aloud
"yeah I do. Because he's not that boring like you. He was okay with it"
"I don't give a shit what is okay or not okay for him. And if he's okay with something like that, then he's a worse father than I thought he was"
"Well, I do care about what he says"
Harvey closes his eyes to gather himself, he's furious and he knows he needs to take a deep breath before saying something
"You're not allowed to go anywhere for the next two weeks" Harvey says calmly "maybe you should use the time and think about your behavior lately"
"What? Are you serious? I am 16, you can't do that!"
"I can and I will… and you act like an 8 year old not 16"
"Mom!"
"Don't look at me" Donna tells her. "you know you're not allowed to drink and you have to be here when we say you should. And instead of an apology you come in here at 4 am - drunk – you don't tell us where you are, you don't pick up your phone and you yell as if it is our fault. Now go in your room and I don't wanna hear a word anymore" Donna says in an angry tone.
The teenager rushes into her room and slaps the door shut.
… … …
"Harvey, what can I do for you?" Derek asks with a smile on his face. He knows well enough why he's there, he just wants to provoke him.
"Did you know that Amelia won't come home tonight?"
"ooh uhm, yes. I'm so sorry I completely forgot to let you and Donna know" he apologizes but Harvey knows he doesn't mean it.
"You forgot to let us know?" he asks sarcastically "Do you even have an idea how worried we've been?" Harvey starts to loose his cool
"I'm sorry okay, it wasn't on purpose"
"sure"
"Harvey, come on. She's a teenager, she just wants to have fun. Have you always behaved correctly?"
"You son of a bitch" he yells and pushes him against the wall "she came drunk at home. She's sixteen"
"yeah she is and she's my daugther, so it's on me" he provokes him further.
"Shut the hell up" Harvey warns and Derek chuckles.
"I'm telling you I am going to win. I have her almost by my side and one day she'll call me dad" he whispers with a smile "and I am gonna win Donna back too. You destroyed my family years ago and I am gonna destroy yours" and with that Harvey looses his cool completely and punches him hard into his face.
"Mr Specter, that's enough" someone says and pulls Harvey away.
"You'll never gonna get them back and she will never call you dad" The man is still holding Harvey tight.
"It's fine. I'm leaving" Harvey says to the man and walks towards the door "and" he turns to Derek again "it's still Mr Specter for you" and with it he leaves the IT-room.
Derek calls Amelia later and apologies to her.
"I'm sorry I completely forgot it, seriously."
"You didn't do it on purpose?"
"No, why would I do that?"
"You don't like dad"
"That's right. But I really do like Donna and I would never scare her like that on purpose" he assures her
"okay"
"We're still good for tomorrow?"
"Uhm- no, I- I am not allowed to go anywhere else but school for the next two weeks"
"I'm sure that doesn't include spending time with your father"
"I'm pretty sure it does"
"Okay look, I just heard that he won't be in the firm tomorrow. How about we meet in front of the building and go to the match? I mean I already bought the tickets"
"I don't know" she hesitates
"Come on, he isn't there and Donna'll think you're just not answering. No one will notice"
"yeah okay" she agrees.
The next day
"What the hell are you doing here?" Harvey asks upset when he sees Amelia waiting in front of the building of Specter Ross Zane. He actually had an appointment but his client postpone it for the next week.
"I thought you weren't here today" she says shocked
"I asked you something" he says angrier
"Amelia let- Harvey? uhm I'm sorry 'Mr Specter'?" Derek says sarcastically "what are you doing here?"
"she's going nowhere"
"yes she is. We have tickets for the match"
"I don't give a shit what you have. Now let's go" he grabs Amelia by her arm.
"let go of me" she shouts
"You are going into the car now" Harvey yells
"she's my daughter" Derek yells at Harvey.
"And if you were such a great father" Harvey says while closing the distance to the other man "you'd take care of her instead of supporting her that it's okay to come home drunk at 4 am. At 16"
"You wanna punch him again?" she asks madly
"I'd love to" Harvey shoots back.
"oh my god, I-" Amelia stops herself just in time 'cause she said that once and regretted it"
"You hate me I know. You told me that already" Harvey says
"I didn't say that"
"You meant it"
She wants to shoot back but decides just to shut up.
"You should be glad I don't sue you for yesterday" Derek calls after him but he ignores it.
Two weeks later
After two weeks she's allowed to go outside again but she has still to be home at eight for one more week because of the action with Derek. The situation is a little calmer between her and her parents but still difficult espiealy with Harvey. He on the other side is scared to death that he'll lose her to Derek. He doesn't want to be a helicopter dad but he can't allowed her everything just because he's scared, it is still his job to take care of her.
"Amelia hey" Derek greets her and pulls her in a hug.
"Hey" she greets back
"I thought we could spend the afternoon together. Since your punishment is over. D'you have school later?"
"No, I'm done for today and yeah I'd love to" she smiles at him.
"Great… are you hungry?"
"Yeah, I'm starving"
"I asked Donna, if you want you can sleep at mine tonight. We could order burgers and watch baseball… what do you think?"
"uhm… I'm sorry. I have a lot of homework. Let's just spend the day together and do that another time, okay?" She says. She likes Derek and she's really pissed at Harvey right now but eating Burgers and watching Baseball is their thing.
"It's what you do with him, isn't it?" Derek asks and she nods "I'm sorry, it'd be weird"
"It's okay, then let's have a great day together"
So they spend the afternoon together and tell each other about themselves. They are sitting next to each other in a park.
"I think I wanna be a lawyer just like dad but I'm not sure yet so I haven't told him"
"sounds good"
"You okay?" Amelia asks recognize from his tone that somehting bothers him
"yeah, it's just… I always thought of having children and them calling me dad. I wanted to share my passion for computers with someone" he smiles at her and lifts his head to looks then "I could've had it with you" he tears the look from her and looks straight ahead.
"I'm sorry"
"it's okay, it's not your fault and we cannot turn back time. Tell me about you, what is your biggest dream?"
Amelia smiles "I wanna visit Europe. I wanna do work and travel. There are a lot of beautiful countries I wanna see"
"Sounds great. I've been to Germany a few years ago"
"really? Did you like it?"
"Yeah, it was great. Germans are completely different but it was great… why don't you do that in summer? It'd be a good possibility?"
"Dad doesn't allow it"
"why not?"
"He's afraid something could happen to me. He says I'm too young and I should wait a little longer" she tells him and Derek rolls with his eyes. "I didn't know he's such a fear bunny"
"Mom was okay with it but I need both signatures"
"Maybe we can talk with him again, what do you think?"
"You'd be okay with it?"
"yeah of course, why not? It's a grat chance to get to know other cultures and to grow" he tells her. He actually wouldn't allow it himself and is kinds surprised that Donna would… but it's a great possibly for him to let Harvey look bad in front of Amelia.
"cool, thank you" she says and hugs him
"yeah, you're welcome" he hugs her back
"Uhm, there's one more thing I wanted to ask you"
"yeah?"
"I thought since you're calling him 'dad' maybe we could at least make it official that I am your father"
"uhm" Amelia tears the look from him "you want that official?" he nods.
"Here" he hands her the papers over. "I just want you to think about it. If you say no, it's done"
"okay" she agrees.
The next day
"Mom, do you have a minute?"
"sure honey, what is it?"
"Derek, he wants me to sign those papers. He wants to be officially my father" she tells Donna, who gulps
"what?" Donna asks somehow upset
"Yeah he said since I'm calling him 'dad' he'd love to make it at least official that I'm his daughter, too"
"Do you want that, too?"
"I don't know… I mean he's so sad that he missed my whole childhood and it's not even his fault… it's just-"
"you care about Harvey and you don't wanna hurt him" Amelia nods.
"He was always there for me and if I tell him somehting like that, it'll hurt him. And if I don't sign it'll hurt Derek. What should I do, mom?"
"Honey… this is your decision"
"I want your opinion"
"Look, I get that Derek is sad and hurting but Harvey is your father. He's always been there for you and he loves you more than anything else in the world. He's so afraid that this test will change everything… and if you sign them, then"
"then he'll feel confirmed"
"Honey, I know you don't wanna hurt non of them but one of them will be hurt. So you should decide what you want. Do you even want to do that or it is just because Derek told you?"
She looks at her mother and shakes her head "I don't want to" she admits
"I want him to be the one to decide about me, and I want him to be my father officially, even though I don't always agree with him"
"Then you have your answer" Amelia nods at this "thanks mom" she says and kisses her cheek.
… … …
A few days later Amelia decided to talk to Harvey. Derek was hurting when she told him that she won't sign the papers even though he told her it'd be okay. Because of that she thought it'd be the best solution to call both men by their names. She knew it'll hurt Harvey but she has two fathers now and she can't keep hurting the one to protect the other one. So she decided that she has to do it even though she's not sure she really wants it.
She can't even explain it to Harvey properly. She doesn't want to tell him about the papers. She knows it'll set him up and there will be just more trouble between the two men.
"So you don't wanna call me dad anymore?" he asks hurting
"I- I just don't wanna hurt non of you. He's hurting that he missed my whole childhood and the chance to see me growing up. You're registered as my father and he has nothing. He said he always wanted someone to call him dad an-"
"what about me and how I am feeling?"
"Dad please, I'm just trying to do the right thng"
"You know what? I don't care anymore… call me however you want… how about Mr Specter? I bet Derek would love it"
"Dad, Please"
But Harvey doesn't answer to her anymore but goes into his bedroom. He doesn't want to make her feel bad but he just couldn't keep it inside anymore.
Amelia is calling Harvey by his name for a week now. It's still unusual for her and she often starts calling him 'dad' but corrects herself. She tries to avoid it as much as she can so she always says just 'hey' or 'are you alright' or something like that. It hurts him every time but he knows he has to accept it, after all Derek is her father.
Mike and Harvey are walking into his office when they see Derek coming towards them.
"What do you want?" Mike asks
"Mike, are you mad at me? I though we're fine"
"we're not… now, why are you here?"
He smiles "I'm just waiting for my daughter" he says gleefully
"Hey can we- Mike? Harvey? Hey" she greets them quietly
"you ready?" Derek asks and she nods. Amelia starts walking while Derek turns to Harvey.
"Harvey" he whispers with a gleefully smile but loud enough so the two friends can hear him.
"Shut the h-"
"Harvey stop" Mike says calmly and holds him back "he's not worthy" he tells him softly
… … …
A few days later Harvey's in Amelia's room. She asked him to pick up a folder for her she forgot and asked him to bring it to the office, so she can pick it up there. He freezes when he finds the papers on the table, Derek gave her the other day. They were under some other folders and appears. For a moment he can't breath properly so he sits down on the edge of the bed.
"I'm gonna lose her" he whispers and a tear rolls down his face. After a few moments he gathers himself, puts the papers where he found them, takes the folder and leaves. He doesn't tell anyone about it, not Donna, not Mike, no one. They notice somehting is wrong but he denies it.
… … …
It is Saturday and the Specters are having breakfast together. So Amelia takes the chance and hesatinly brings the Europe-topic on the table again.
"I thought we were done with that topic" Harvey says
"please, Derek is okay with it, too. It's only you"
"You asked him?"
"No I didn't. I told him about my dreams and than I told him about Europe and he asked me why I don't do it this summer"
"son of a bitch" he curses
"He's not a son of a bitch"
"Amelia, I am not discussing that anymore. I said no. We can talk about it when you're old enough"
"Mom please say something. I mean I wouldn't even be alone. Julia and her sister are there, too"
"Amelia that's enough now" Harvey raises his voice.
"You are the only one who's against it!" Amelia shouts "Mom is okay with it… and Derek is either"
"I don't give a shit what Derek says. I'myour father and it's my decision and I am saying no and I'm not discussing it all over again" Harvey shouts back
"It's not only on you!"
"Yes, it is"
"Harvey calm down, let's talk about it calmly" Donna suggests
"Seriously Donna? You're on his side now?"
"it has nothing to do with him, million of teenagers do that. You know I did it and I'm still here" she says in a calm voice
"Do you even have an idea what everything could happen? Just because it didn't happen to you, it doesn't mean it wont happen to her. People are crazy nowadays and she has no one there to take care of her. You had your aunt in Spain, she has no one"
"Oh my god!" Amelia shouts "what do you think will happen, huh?"
"I'm done with that!" he tells them
Amelia laughs sarcastically "just in case you forgot… Derek is my father, not you! And he is ok-"
"Amelia! That's enough now" Donna says aloud.
"What?! It's the truth, he's the only one who doesn't want me to go"
Harvey walks over to the chest of drawers and gets himself a pen. He then returns to Amelia, grabs the papers she's holding and signs them.
"here" he says and throws them on the table "You have what you wanted. And if his opinion is so much more important to you than mine and you see him as your father, then you should make it officially" he says and the sadness, disappointment and hurting in his voice are unmissable
"what?" Amelia asks shocked
"I saw the papers when I got your folder. That's what it is about. You're jsut waiting for a reason to sign them. Now you can do it, I'm done" he says with shaky voice, even though he tries to cover it up.
"that's not true" Amelia tells him and she can't avoid her eyes fill with tears but Harvey ignores it.
He then turns to Donna "Thank you for your support. I hope the three of you are happy now" and with that he leaves the condo.
"Mom" She says with shaky voice
"No! It's enough. Do you even have an idea how much you hurt him with what you just said? He did everything for you. He still would do everything for you in a heartbeat" Donna shakes her head
"I don't think this is somehting you can make right that easily" she says and leaves too while Amelia can't hold back her tears.
… … …
"Hey" Mike greets his friends when he enters his office. "Mrs Buckley agreed. She won't sue her ex. It's done"
"Thank you, Mike" Harvey thanks him. He send him a message and asked him to take over the appointment, he just wasn't in the mood to do anything after what Amelia said to him. He thought he could distract himself in the office but it doesn't work. He's standing in font of the window wall and looking outside at the streets of New York.
"Harvey? Are you alright?"
"yeah, I'm fine, thanks" he answers but his voice tells something else. He doesn't want to bother Mike with his personal problem anymore. He knows Mike doesn't mind and he'd always be there for him but enough is enough.
"Harvey, what is it?" and Harvey hears the concern in his voice. He doesn't answer. Mike somehow notices that it's not meant for him to leave so he slowly approaches him and takes a hand on his shoulder.
"what happened?" he asks softly, standing next to him. Harvey lifts his head on the left to look at his friend "Amelia, she… she brought the Europe-topic on the table again and I said I won't allow it and then… she said it's not on me 'cause Derek is her father" and his voice breaks.
"she what?" Mike asks shocked. Harvey tears his look from Mike 'cause he can't hold back the tears and looks out of the window again. "Well, she's right" he says quietly and gulps
"bullshit" Mike says upset "You're the one who raised her, you-"
"It doesn't matter anymore. She cares about him now"
"she's just mad, I'm pretty sure she didn't mean it" Mike tries to make him feel better.
"she did. I- I found some papers on her desk a few days ago" he pauses " it was the papers to have his paternity acknowledged" Mike closes his eyes. He owes t know what to say.
"but… if she didn't sign them… it means that she doesn't want to do that"
"I'm pretty sure she does now. And she should… if his opinion is so much more important and she thinks I have no right to tell her anything, it's better that way"
"Harvey" Mike says softly
"No, I tried it. I really tried it Mike but I had no chance. He'd doing everything to destroy our relationship and he told me he would… he won"
"I'll kill that son of a bitch" Mike says angrily and Harvey smiles "I'd love to help you but… I don't think it's good for you to commit another crime" Harvey jokes
"yeah probably" Mike chuckles "what do we do then?"
"Nothing… if Amelia wants him as her father, I can't and I won't try to force her to love me. I have to accept it."
Mike doesn't say anything anymore. He pours them some Scotch and the two friends just stay like that for a while and look out of the window while drinking scotch.
… … …
"Can I come in?" Donna asks quietly when she enters his office. It's evening now and they haven't talked since mid-day to each other.
"I'd rather be alone"
"please, just a minute" and he nods
"I know what Amelia said hurt you but she was just mad she doesn't mean it. She's jus-"
"Yes she does… and she's right" he says hurting.
"Harvey that's not true and you know it. She loves you" she tries to convince him.
"Really Donna? Did that look to you as if she loved me? And d'you know what the worst thing is, He told me exactly that. He said he'll destroy my family like I destroyed his, that Amelia would call him 'dad' one day and that he'll get you back" he gulps "and he's succeeding"
"that's not true"
"you're picking his side and he's trying everything to take her away from me… and you too" he adds
"I'm not on his side Harvey. I jsut have a different option on this one" she walks over to him "and just to make it clear one more time… I. love. You." She emphases "I didn't want to go back to him when I found out about the pregnancy and I don't want to do it now"
"I don't get it… How can you say you're okay with it? She's 16. I feel uncomfortable letting her sleep somewhere else, let alone in another continent"
"I did it, too"
"Just because you did it, it doesn't mean you have to allow it to her. If I'd allowed her everything I did when I was in her age… we would have a hell of a lot more trouble with her than we have now" Donna laughs at that "yeah, touché"
"Why don't you tell me why you're so against it? I don't believe you that it's just her age?"
Harvey takes a deep breath and let's go of her hands.
"It's because of JJ" Harvey says and takes a seat on his couch and Donna follows
"who's JJ?"
"She was my best friend's sister in Highschool. I had such a crush on her" he smiles and so does Donna "but he was his sister and we agreed years ago that the sisters of best friends were taboo"
"You have no sister" Donna chuckles "yeah I know" he chuckles back.
"She was 17 when she and her best friends decided to do that. Their parents wouldn't allowed it but Mathew and I helped her and we convinced her parents… we had the same arguments Amelia has now. Her best friend is with here and her best friend's sister. She was 20" Harvey pauses for a few seconds "one day they got a called, JJ and her best friend were gone and the sister was heavily injured" Harvey's voice breaks
"what had happened?"
"a few man had noticed that they're tourists and have addresses them. They didn't want it but they didn't stop. They had no chance… it was dark and there wer no other people. A few teenagers found them the next morning when they were on the way at school." Harvey says and wipes the tears away.
"I'm so sorry" Donna whispers and hugs him tight. "Why didn't you tell me that?"
"It's a long time ago and I don't like talking about it"
"but it seems to still bother you"
"I helped him"
"Harvey no" she forces him to look at her "you couldn't have known"
"if we hadn't convinced them, she'd be still here"
"You don't know that. If they would've been so extremely against it, they would've never allowed it to her. No matter what you and Matthew would've said."
"They never blames us. At least they neve said it out loud"
"You see"
"what about Matthew?"
"I don't know. At some point we lost contact. I haven't heard from him since Harvard anymore. We started to study jura but he hated it" he chuckles "he then left Bosten and I was so busy. We spoke so rarely… and at some point at ended completely"
"That's why I don't want her to go. I know it can happen at any age but she's just to young for something like that. She doesn't know how to protect herself. She's too naiv right know."
"I'll talk to Amelia" she tells him but he shakes his head "no! She's old enough and she can make her own decisions. If she wants him to decide from now on it's her right to do so" he says sadly I just didn't expect his opinion to become so much more important to her than mine so quickly."
"It's not. Look I don't wanna justly what she said, it was cruel and hurting and I know it's not easy to forget or forgive. I am just sure she only said it because he would allow it to her"
"it's no reason to say something like that."
"I know, but you just said it yourself, she's too naiv"
"No Donna. You can't compare being alone in Europe at 16 with knowing when to hurt someone. I mean she stopped calling me 'dad' and now she said I'm not her father. It's pretty clear that she doesn't care about me anymore'
"okay look. I'm gonna tell you somehting but I want you to promise me not to get mad at me"
"okay" he agrees
"she stopped calling you 'dad' because she didn't want to sign the papers for the fatherhood.
"what?"
"Derek gave them to her and asked her to sign them. He said since she calls you 'dad' she could at least make it offial that she's his daughter. Amelia told me she doesn't want it because she wants you to decide for her.
"You knew that and you didn't tell me?" he gets up
"Hey promised" she grabs his wrist and he sits down agian.
"I guess she didnt want to hurt him further and thought it'd be fair to treat you equally. And probably she thought it'd hurt you less than to tell you she'll sign them"
"she could've told me"
"she knew you'd kill Derek" Donna smiles
"yeah, she was right. But Mike and I decided it's not a good idea. So don't worry" he smiles
"Mike?"
"He can't stand him anymore than I do"
"what? He never told me that" Donna says surprised
"you know… best friends are loyal… and he knows Derek's an asshole" Donna chuckles and kisses him on his lips
"you coming home?" she asks softly
"yes" he whispers and they get up to leave.
… … …
Three days later Harvey and Amelia meet in the living room for the first time agian. Harvey doesn't talk to her, he goes over to the coffee machine, pours himself a cup of coffee and makes his way back to the bedroom.
"Can we talk?" she ask quietly and he stops. He takes a deep breath "There's nothing to say anymore"
"please" she pleads and he turns after a few seconds
"I'm listening"
"I am sorry"
"you're sorry a lot lately"
she closes her eyes "I know" she says and looks at him agian.
"I thought this test wouldn't change anything between us but it changes everything"
"That's not what I wanted"
Harvey laughs "yeah of course.
"You think this is easy for me. Do you think it's easy to call you by your name, after almost 17 years?"
"then why are you doing it?"
"because, I didn't want to hurt him any longer"
"what about me and how I am feeling?"
"I know it hurts you, it's just… Derek is-"
"Derek, Derek, Derek all I hear lately is Derek. Derek is hurt, Derek is okay with it, Derek is sad, Derek wants… I can't hear it anymore"
"I don't want to hurt you any more than I wana hurt him. It doesn't matter what I say or how I decide I am always gonna hurt one of you." She says hurting
"Is it true that you stopped calling me dad just because you didnt want to sign the papers?"
"she told you" she says angry
"She did… and this is the only reason I'm listening to you. So is it the truth or did you lie at her?"
"Yes" she confirms "I said no to Burgers and Baseball, i have your name, I called you dad, I told him I might wanna be a lawyer, just like you… and I knew if I say no to the papers too, he'll think I don't care about him. That's why I decided to treat you the same by calling both of you by your name"
"fair enough" he nods "you could've told me. Do you have an idea what it's like if you own daughter stops calling you dad, or tells you that you have nothing to say to her because you're not her father. You said I'll stay your father and nothing will change but as soon as you knew the truth everything changed."
"I…" Amelia sniffs
"You stopped caring about what I say, you stopped listening to what a I say, you come drunk at home and tell him instead of me, you stopped calling me dad and as if that wouldn't be worse enough you tell me that he is your father not me" he says and he sounds so volunable.
"I thought about a lot things that could change but I never thought you'd say something like that to me" they look at each other for a few seconds
"I'm sorry" she cries "yeah me too" he says and goes back into the bedroom. "daddy please stop" she cries and he stops "look at me, please" she pleads. Harvey closes his eyes and a tear rolls down his face. But he doesn't look back, he takes a deep breath and walks into his bedroom.
A week later
It's evening and it's Derek's birthday. He invited Donna and Amelia for Dinner ans they accepted it. They are in Donna's office waiting for Amelia. Donna brought some more pictures and they are looking at them. They laughed a lot but now they're having a deep conversation
"I missed so much" he says
"I'm sorry, I know"
"You don't have to apologize anymore" he smiles at her "it's my own fault. If I hadn't broken up with you, we'd be a famlhy now"
"You don't know that" she says looking at him. they're only inches away from each other
"Yes I do. I never loved someone as much a I loved you… your the most beautiful and smartest woman I have ever met. I should've never let you go"
"I really loved you" she says "but I-"
"I still do" he cuts her off and closes their distance
"Derek stop" she whispers "I can't"
"give us another chance" and than his lips are on hers.
A few seconds later they notice someone has entered the room…
