Emotional? EMOTIONAL! Ole Me?! Never!
Stede is acting rather coyly, hiding something behind his back, which does not go unnoticed by Ed. Then again, Stede has been acting all strange for the past few days, making Ed wonder whether there is something off going on with the man. So, deciding to confront Stede before things get out of control. Again.
"Whatcha got there darlin'?"
"Oh yeah… Here sweetie, have this… um a card!"
Stede hands over the thing from behind his back… and there is more too!
"And also, these, flowers!"
"A card? And flowers? For little ole moi? How… thoughtful?"
Ed looks totally confused at the gifts he has just received, having, as per usual, thought the worst was about to burst forth. Then seeing the big heart shape on the cover… oh hell!
"Yes, well, it's tradition for some. And now, I am making it for us as well."
Stede is all smiles, but as Ed does not react, rather staring at the items in his hands with so much confusion written on his face, Stede too gets worried.
"I um… thought you might like them? It's Valentine's Day after all!"
Ed finally looks up and at Stede.
"Valentine's? Wasn't he the saint who got killed and chopped up." Shaking his head. "Bet there was so, so much blood…"
The vision of the bleeding saint filling Ed's mind suddenly, making him smile a little.
"The same, but, well, this tradition is about lovers. The heart is a symbol of that."
Yeah, guess the idea of the card and flowers had been better in his mind as clearly, Ed had his mind in the sewer once again, the blood and all that. Oh well! Stede really should have known better!
"Tradition, for us… two?"
Suddenly the realisation of what this was, the notion, the gifts, all of it hit Ed, smack in the middle of his face. And then, it was impossible to hold back. Staring at the items in his hands. A glance at Stede, back at the card, the flowers.
The rather large size hand drawn heart in the middle of the page… Ed opened the card with shaky hands… the note written there by Stede in cursive lettering.
"Always and forever yours…"
It was all so much! Too much! Oh. His. Deity!
Ed felt his hands staring to tremble and shake. His whole body, feeling… yeah, he was feeling again! Totally so! His whole body was lit up. With sensations. Something somewhat foreign to the dark spoken man. Well, until recently.
And soon enough, Ed felt the sting behind his eyeballs. The water finding it's way forth!
Oh hell no! This wasn't happening. Ed, Blackbeard, did not have emotions, feelings, the whatnots! And he certainly did not cry! He, Ed, the Blackbeard, was a pirate, a man's man… oops! Yeah, he really was, a man's man. This particular man's man. Stede's man.
The shaking got worse and Stede was so, so worried now.
"Ed, sweetie, are you… alright?"
But Ed could not answer, the emotions having consumed him completely. Yeah, Ed, was a utter mess!
Stede moved closer to Ed, wanting to console the man clearly under duress suddenly. Whatever had set him off, was Stede's doing, as he was a wobbling pile tears and shakes.
"Ed, honey, I am here. What's going on?"
"Waaaaaaa!"
Was the only answer Stede would get, the sound like a small child let out of the burly bearded man was, well, heartbreaking.
"Ed?!"
Stede felt the tears prickling behind his own eyes now, the emotional moment catching and the only thing he could do, was to grab a hold of his crying man, holding on for dear life and letting Ed shed all the tears he needed to feel alright again. Well, at least himself, as good and alright were hardly words to describe Stede's partner.
Cooing and shushing Ed with soft words was all Stede could think of to do to calm the other man. Cursing his own actions internally. As clearly, the idea however great it had felt when concocting it had not been so great after all.
It took several moments and heartfelt words to finally calm Ed, Stede never letting go. The flowers long since crushed between them, the card still in Ed's hand. Sensing Ed was more himself, Stede lessened the grip around the man.
"You, feeling better now love?"
"Ye… Yeah."
Wiping off his fallen tears, his face having gotten all wet. Internally cursing the emotions to the deepest pit of hell. Ed was only thankful for such an understanding partner as Stede really was, never having imagined the two of them would go together. But here they were, hugging, crying, holding onto the other for dear life! Oh well, guess it was only a matter of time?
"I am so sorry I upset you."
"Is alright. It's all me. The gift…" Ed looked at the leftover flowers, letting the remnants fall on the ground, but the card, the card was still in tact. A tad scrunched up, but yeah, it was good. "I… guess I didn't expect it, is all."
Ed finally locked eyes with Stede, seeing the worry still present there, him having been the cause of it all. It had been out of love Stede had done this. And how had Ed repaid him? By becoming a sobbing mass of tears that's how! But, as he looked on, the love was there still and there was no sign Stede as upset because of the emotions, rather the well being of Ed's.
"it's fine. I can always get you new flowers, my dear." Stede smiled a little. "And a new card."
"No, no! This is good." Ed tried to straighten the somewhat crooked piece of cardboard."
"You sure?"
"Yeah love, I am."
To prove he was that, alright, Ed pulled Stede in for a passionate, long kiss. Showing Stede all his emotions, feelings, his love, as he totally had those! Something hard to admit for sure, but yeah, they were there, even if sometimes hidden deep, deep inside.
