Hope you enjoy!
Shopkeeper's POV:
At last. I thought as I closed up my shop. Another day done, another day away from those evil masks.
It's Halloween night and I'm still hoping out for hope that they don't go after Carly Beth Caldwell and Steve Boswell again.
But if they don't, I'll honestly be really surprised, because no matter what happens to them, they always end up back here. No matter how many times you burn them, they'll always. Come. Back.
They could go after me or some other kid, but if they do, I'll be there to stop them.
As I started to walk to my station wagon, I heard someone call my name. "Richard! Richard!" It whispered eerily.
I turned around, expecting to see someone, but instead, I saw no one. "Hello? Is someone there? I'm closing the novelty shop for tonight. So, if you were wanting to buy a mask, you're out of luck, sorry."
A huge gust of wind blew right by me and the air seemed to hiss my name. "Richard. Richard."
I whirled around, only to see nothing. But then I began to see something out of the corner of my eye. I saw the mask that went after Carly-Beth three years ago when she was 12. Then, slowly wavering in air behind it, I saw the other mask that went after Steve. I widened my eyes, as I threw my arms out. "No! I won't let you take over them again! Take me! I'm the one that you want. leave them out of it!"
"Not a chance. We're here to finally complete what should have been done three years ago and nothing, not even you, can get in our way." The masks hissed in perfect unison.
And with that, they soared through the air, until I could no longer see them. I pulled on my coat and quickly opened my car door, before I pulled out of the parking lot. I have to find both Carly-Beth and Steve as fast as possible.
Carly-Beth POV:
After school ended, I started to walk home but Sabrina wasn't with me. Because she had to leave school early for a doctor appointment.
As I walked down the street, the street that looked lively in the morning, but in the evening it looked somewhat sinister.
Then that was when I heard it. A crunching sound from just behind me. Then I heard quick sounds of thunder and I jumped.
I chuckled as I continued on my way but then a hand reached out and grabbed my shoulder.
I let out a loud scream as I whipped around only to see the novelty shop owner. "You? What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to warn you. You and Steve Boswell are in deep trouble, I'm sorry to say."
After all we went through in the past few years, I felt goosebumps rise up on my arms. "W-w-what do you mean? Do you mean what I think you mean?"
"The mask is back. It's after you. And Steve's mask is after him. You have to protect him and protect yourself. Stay side by side tonight, don't even let him out of your sight. If you do, you won't get your friend back this time."
I gulped. "I'll do it. I don't want anything bad to happen to me or Steve." I looked to my left. Then I looked back. "What are you-." He wasn't anywhere to be found.
I looked around, confused, but I knew what I had to do. I guess steve, Chuck, Sabrina, and I will have to go trick or treating together tonight.
I walked into my house and walked straight to the living room to call Sabrina then Steve. "Hello?" I heard Sabrina ask.
"Hey, it's Carly-Beth. Do you want to go trick or treating tonight with Steve and Chuck? I have to stay close by Steve's side, just to be safe."
"Huh? You're talking crazy, Carly-Beth. What's going on? Are you okay?"
"You remember how I got that mask and then Steve got one a year later? And how they were evil and all?"
"Yeah, but what's this got to do with whatever you're going on about."
"Well, we thought we got rid of the masks, but now they're back and they're after Steve and I. So I have to keep us safe. Safe from total chaos."
"Well, I'll see you later tonight. 8 o'clock, right?"
"Yup, eight o'clock. See you then. Bye."
"Bye." She hung up the phone and I started to dial Steve's number.
"Hello?" I heard Steve say.
"Hey, um, Steve, it's Carly-Beth. Do you and Chuck want to come trick or treating with Sabrina and I tonight?"
"Uh yeah, sure. By the way, good prank today. "
I blushed. "Uh, thanks. Uh, I have something to tell you, okay?"
"Ok, shoot."
"You remember those masks, right? The evil ones?"
"Uh, yeah. How could I forget?" He laughed. "Why?"
"Um, because they're back to get us. The novelty shop owner told me not too long ago." I groaned. "I thought we were through with this. Guess not."
"We were. What happened?"
"I have no idea. But all I now is that he asked was for to keep each other safe. So, if you see a mask, run the other way."
"Ok. We have to do everything we possibly can to protect ourselves against the masks. If one of us gets it, it'll be pure chaos."
Oh trust me, I know. I thought as we talked through our plans for tonight.
