Returning to base was a relief to all concerned. The OP had not gone to plan at all. To call it FUBAR would be generous, Eddie thought, hopping down from the helo and grabbing his medkit as he went.
Smooth Dog and Viper headed off to TOC, heads bent together, while the rest of the Splinter team and Eddie moved to their assigned barracks area, secluded from the rest of the FOB, as was the case with many of the SF units.
Abadi was steered towards the area Splinter had designated as 'Interview'- though it was more of a humid box with a single window and a dingy and bare light, causing an almost eerie glow, and hot as hell. Though it was hot as hell everywhere Eddie thought with a irritated huff.
"So what now?" Eddie asked as he dropped down into the bunk he used.
"Now? Nothing. We wait until brass says what we do next." Red snorted as he and the rest of the team settled in their spots, while Boomer came back in from getting Abadi settled, grumbling about the brass being paper pushers. Causing a few to laugh.
"Smooth Dog and Viper will fill us in with the 'what's what' when they know what's going on. We wait for them." Columbus grunted.
"Still makes no sense that they knew we were coming, something shook loose somewhere," Ricky said with a frown.
Before anyone could respond, Viper slipped in as quiet as a mouse as deadly as a rattler and held up her hand to settle the wave of questions the team had ready.
"Settle down ladies, Smooth is talking to Abadi. We got some trees to shake. We need to get our rapports done and then hit the data. Intel got lost in translation. We find the thread and we tug until we find the nexus. Find a lead and follow up on what doesn't add, and we make damn certain that intel is solid before we get spun up and head outside the wire again. Today was a cluster we all would like to avoid."
"Viper how about I take a look at your arm first?" Red said pointing out the gash on her arm, which seemed to surprise even the stoic woman slightly.
"I'm fine," she shrugged and moved as if to walk off.
"Be that as it may, either I look at you or Diaz does. Don't argue" Red said face unmoveable.
"Fine let's go Diaz I got a lot to do and so do the rest of y'all" Viper huffed with a glare at the team.
Eddie got up and followed the woman over to the common area where she shrugged out of the camo jacket and started to study the data on their corkboard, while Eddie grabbed a stool and settled down to look at the gash on the woman's arm and started to clean it up and wrap a light dressing over the arm.
"how's your wife and boy doing?" Viper asked causing Eddie to raise his head with a surprised lift of his eyebrow.
"What?" Eddie asked confused. "your family Diaz. Shannon and Chris, wasn't it? He's…what? About 3 now, right?" she asked, stunning Eddie with the knowledge she had of him.
"Uh, yeah, yeah Chris. And he's 3. He's doing well. And Shan's well I think. We haven't had the best of luck with signal lately." Eddie stuttered when his ability to speak returned.
It truly surprised Eddie that a woman such as this would even know or remember that he had a family or what their names were.
It seems that this woman had a very good memory of the things around her. Which he supposed was what made her such a good operative he supposed.
