A/N: This prompt was submitted to me by theshadowsedges over on Tumblr from the Touch Starved Prompt List I reblogged over there. The prompt was: already barely holding it together as they're getting their hand held, but then they feel that reassuring squeeze and they just can't.
Don't own Major Crimes or any of its characters. Just merely & eternally playing in the Shandy sandbox. Enjoy!
Intertwined
It was Sharon and Andy's first date and he'd picked her up from her condo in his Charger and now they were on their way to Serve.
Shortly after he started driving, he reached over the console for Sharon's left hand which was currently in her lap and gently pulled her hand with his onto the console, holding her hand in his, their fingers intertwined.
He heard a sharp intake of breath from Sharon when he did that and asked, "Is this okay?"
"Yeah. Fine. It's just not something I'm really used to doing," explained Sharon.
Andy squeezed her hand reassuringly, letting her know that she was safe with him.
As Andy continued driving the streets of LA, heading towards the restaurant, he brushed his thumb absentmindedly against her pulse point.
He could tell Sharon might be having some nerves with how fast her pulse was racing.
"I'm nervous too, if that helps at all," commented Andy.
"Really? You always seem so sure of yourself," Sharon told him as she looked at him in profile.
Andy turned his head to look at Sharon for a moment as he said, "Yeah. This is totally new territory for me. I haven't been on a real date in probably five to ten years," admitted Andy as he turned his attention back to the road.
"Well, I've got you beat on that one. It's been about 27 years since I've been on a real date," replied Sharon.
"Really?" asked Andy, surprised.
"Mmhmm. It was all very Catholic in that respect," said Sharon.
"I think that just makes you a loyal partner. Even if he didn't deserve that," said Andy.
"Yeah. I guess you're right," replied Sharon as she smiled at Andy's observation.
Andy caught her smiling just as he pulled into the parking lot of Serve.
He killed the engine before he turned to Sharon and squeezed her hand gently as he asked hopefully, "Better?"
Sharon smiled at him again and replied, "Much better."
"Good," replied Andy as he and Sharon continued staring at the other.
A moment later, Sharon told him, "You're gonna have to let go of my hand for a moment if we're gonna make our reservation."
"Right," replied Andy as he freed his hand from Sharon's and they both got out of the car.
Andy opened the door and they entered Serve.
As they waited in line at the hostess stand, Sharon reached over and grabbed Andy's hand and intertwined her fingers with his again.
"You can hold my hand anytime," Sharon whispered in Andy's ear.
"Good. Cause I like holding your hand," Andy whispered back right before they arrived at the front of the line.
"Name?" asked the hostess.
"Flynn, party of two," replied Andy.
Sharon smiled at that.
Maybe someday that could be true.
Maybe she'd take his last name eventually.
Or at least hyphenate it for professional purposes.
Raydor-Flynn had a nice ring to it.
She smiled a goofy smile at Andy before the hostess led them towards a table in the back.
"You went quiet on me for a minute. What were you thinking about?" Andy asked her.
"How nice, Flynn, party of two sounded," admitted Sharon as they arrived at their table.
Andy smiled a megawatt smile at Sharon as the hostess set the menus on the table and left before he said, "It does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it?" said Andy as he grabbed her hand and held it in the middle of the table.
Sharon just blushed before she replied, "Yes. It does."
Andy squeezed Sharon's hand reassuringly and from that moment forward, they were intertwined, forever and always.
A/N: Hope you enjoyed this latest one-shot. I know it was rather short, but I promise I'll be back to my regularly scheduled programming of continuing to write for my multi-chapter fics come October. Since I've been writing so much Shandy lately, I'll be starting with writing the next chapter of my Madam Secretary multi-chapter fic, "Soldier On," before returning to writing "Seeing You," and then finally, "Antithesis," and then hopefully the fourth week of every month, I'll be writing a one-shot for a prompt in my inbox to slowly try to work through those.
Just thought I'd let you know my writing plans for the foreseeable future.
Thank you so much for reading! Please leave a review if you so feel inclined.
