The job on the board looked easy enough when they picked it. The danger level was low and the money was surprisingly good. Kazuma couldn't even believe it himself when Darkness brought it over to him.

The quest given to them was to explore a tomb recently unearthed by an earthquake. It was an easy in and out, and shouldn't have taken any more than thirty minutes. Maybe they'd even find something worth selling. Yet as with all things, there was a catch.

Shouldn't have

It shouldn't have taken them any more than thirty minutes and Kazuma immediately thought he shouldn't have taken the job. Traps were everywhere and trying to kill them from all angles.

Swinging bladed pendulums blocked their forward path in hallways. Poison darts would fly in their direction if they snagged on a tripwire. Massive logs mounted to the ceiling would be released from their places and swing at them like a battering ram should they step on a pressure plate. Magical fire, ice, and lightning traps would activate like a proximity mine. Everything in this dungeon was trying to kill them, some having more flavor than others.

They were also (from what Kazuma was able to tell) an hour and a half into exploration.

When it came to some of the physical traps it was hard to pull away from them to pleasure her masochistic kink. Not only was she causing unnecessary harm to herself, but she might need to do that later and she can't do that if she's unconscious.

For this reason, Kazuma had to be the one to lead the group.

Still deep into the dungeon, not at all aware of what was waiting for them further in, the group stumbled into a strange room. In the center of the room was a single pillar that stood ten feet high. Its shape resembled a pyramid's, and on three sides had three separate plates. On each plate was an engraving. The two that faced them had the engravings of a fox and a whale. Walking around to the front of the pillar, they found the engraving of a snake.

"What kind of security measure is this?" Aqua asked, scratching her head in wonderment.

The group looked in the opposite direction of the signs, finding similar pyramids that sat on rotating discs. The fox sign was already solved, as it was already facing the pillar.

"With this kind of security you'd think it was meant to keep things-"

"DON'T! Say another word," Kazuma silenced Aqua, putting a finger on her lips. "Darkness, you get the whale I'll do the snake."

Eagerly, likely in wait for something to hurt her, Darkness ran over to the whale pillar and turned it to the proper face. Meanwhile, Kazuma did the same.

When the two rotating pillars faced the proper directions, the wall behind Kazuma crumbled, revealing a hidden path.

"Ooh! What's down there?" Aqua curiously asked, attempting to rush past their party leader before being dragged back by her hair. "Kazuma! That hurts!"

"Are you trying to get yourself killed!?" He shouted. "We have NO idea what's down there and the only reason we've lived long enough in this ruin is because THAT ONE," he said pointing at darkness, "has been taking hits from these traps that normally kill people! So stay close, and don't die."

Kazuma released Aqua's hair, letting her pet her scalp to smooth the pain.

"Follow me," he ordered the group.

Filing down into the newly opened pathway, Kazuma readied his dagger and stepped slowly into the dungeon.

...

The further they went in the colder it became, as cold air crept in through the cracks. There was also the distinct smell of ash and rot, but neither was too overpowering.

The first room they entered after the extensive twists and turns showed why. Corpses, carefully organized and stacked into crevices in the wall, began to appear. It was then it became evident that they were in no mere dungeon, but a massive crypt the size of a small town.

Down from the lower laid bodies, on the floor and propped just below them, were an array of weapons and armor. From axes to maces, curved daggers to swords, it was all neatly organized despite the clear degradation of the weapons.

The armor seemed to fare better, but only slightly. The appearance of the armor reminded Kazuma of the Vikings of medieval Europe. Especially the horns on the helmets and the rotted furs that were still stitched to the inside of the greaves and gauntlets. Some were still attached to the corpses of their long-dead owners.

One of them they approached. His armor was different (or at least his helmet was) from the others, with the horns spiked upwards instead of curving around his cheeks. Next to him sat a hammer made from a night-black material. When Kazuma went to touch it, it was smooth and the white carvings into it almost seemed to mold into the metal.

Aqua, the poor girl, approached the corpse from the front. She inspected the embalmed cadaver like it were an inanimate object and not someone's dead body. It was then she got that glint in her eyes that Kazuma recognized whenever she saw an undead. Instead of going for an immediate takedown of the creature, she was immediately distracted by the platinum-made claw in its lap.

"Ooh! What's this?" She asked, grabbing the thing before Kazuma could stop her.

She lifted the item over her head, her eyes gleaming at the palm of the platinum claw. "A bear... a... wolf, I think? And-"

Aqua was immediately pulled back by Kazuma, just in time for the zombie's hammer to miss her head and get stuck in the wrapped corpse of a mummy. The claw fell to the floor and made a clanking noise.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed!?" Kazuma shouted at her.

The zombie quickly got his war hammer unstuck from the corpse and made another swing for the goddess. Darkness stepped in the way, however, bravely taking the strike to the side of her head.

"Darkness!" He shouted.

Slowly, her left arm raised and gave the group a thumbs up. "I've never felt better!" Darkness exclaimed while her voice was muffled by the floor. He didn't wish to think about the implications of what she had said.

"Tirah sil meyzvolaan nau daar golt. Rodraan wah dir!" The walking corpse shouted in a hoarse voice like metal scraping against the ground.

Again the zombie swung his hammer, missing Kazuma by a wide margin but almost crushing Megumin's skull. The young girl shrieked in fear and immediately rushed to the opposite side of the room.

"M-my n-name is M-Megumin, strongest a-arch w-wizard of the C-crimson D-D-Demon clan-" Kazuma threw a rock at her head cutting her off, stopping her incantation before it fully began.

"Are you trying to kill us!?"

"K-Kazuma...!" Megumin said shakily while pointing a finger just above his head.

Kazuma felt no need to speak. He could feel its rancid breath on the top of his head and even smell it to a point. He looked at Megumin blankly, fully aware of the situation he was currently in.

He gave the young wizard a thumbs-up before everything went black.

...

This was different. Instead of finding himself in Eris's waiting room, he was floating around in empty space. He was surrounded by gold and blue colors, and a white energy flowing like air.

Despite how at peace he felt, there was a sense of foreboding he couldn't shake off. Normally he would find himself sitting in front of Eris, waiting for Aqua to ressurect him so he could be brought back to his nightmare-adventurer party. Not this time though.

Something told him he got isekaid again. The first time wasn't fun, leading his expectations to drop significantly. However, his hopes were high (at least higher than last time). No gods to make fun of him, no useless or weird teammates to drag him down. Wherever he was headed next couldn't be worse than being decapitated by a snow-samurai, dissolved by an acidic slime, or molested by a chimera. Wherever he was going was going to be paradise compared to that previous hell. Or at least he hoped it would be.

As much as he hoped for the best, his dreams were immediately crushed by Aqua's voice echoing across the nothingness. "Kazuma! Hang on!"

His shoulders slumped in disapproval. Now that he thought of it, he took a look at his hands. They were ghostly. He could see right through them, but still see an outline amongst the nothingness that surrounded him.

Soon he began to see his body be sucked backward as if he were trapped in the suction of a vacuum cleaner. Kazuma turned his head to see a tear pulling him back to his body. His disappointment was immeasurable, and his day was ruined.

...

He had a decent measure of spite for the goddess that would constantly resurrect him. He would get her back someday for ruining this true chance of reincarnation. Kazuma glared at her, annoyed, but wanting to get this mission over with as soon as possible.

Taking a look around the room he saw the masses of dead undead. Darkness still lay on the floor, but in a different spot and more beat up than she was from the hammer strike, Megumin was hiding in the corner about to cry and Aqua was standing over him with a stupid smile on her face.

Kazuma had no need to ask because he knew the vote to leave the tomb was already split. Megumin was terrified and clearly wanted to leave. Darkness would want to stay simply to satisfy her kink. Aqua wants to stay to clear the place of any undead she can find. Kazuma? Kazuma had already died once and didn't want to again. Any more deaths than he already has up to this point and he'd wind up traumatized.

There wasn't much point in staying anymore now that they had something to report. That was the whole point of the mission after all. It was supposed to be a recon job, but Aqua would seek to exterminate every walking corpse in this tomb and sanctify those that were yet to start moving.

Kazuma weighed the options.

Leave now option: get standard pay, celebrate the job, never come back again if it's in their power, force Darkness to leave with the party because she'd kill herself eventually in this crypt if they didn't (also because she's the party tank and no one else would be willing to take her place).

Fight through option version 1: (maybe) get extra pay for clearing out the tomb early, celebrate, and never come back again, Kazuma's party loses no members (also maybe).

Fight through option version 2: they all die.

"Well looks like we're all wrapped up... here..." Kazuma felt Aqua pulling him and Megumin further into the ruin, and Darkness was already standing as tall as she could for her condition.

What could he do against Aqua? Fight her and win? Not when she's like this. He has never tried to and never will. Unless he wished to join the mummies on the walls.

...

Several traps and undead later, Kazuma, Aqua, Darkness, and Megumin had arrived in the largest room by far. It was at least the size of the guild hall if not bigger. Three braziers lined each wall, with only two at the entrance of the room, one on each side of the door. Intricate carvings were presented on the walls beside the door, and at the far end of the room was a massive stone circle held in place by the wall around it.

Kazuma looked into the distance at the circle and saw it was segmented into four different circles surrounding each other from the outside. Each one got bigger from the inside out. The outer three circles each had small engravings on them, not too dissimilar to the pillar puzzle from before.

They wished to approach, but in the center of the room was a lone sarcophagus decorated by charred skulls and human bones embedded in its sides.

"I wanna go home!" Megumin cried, Kazuma silently agreeing with her.

"B-but what if there's still danger in the tomb?" Darkness stated euphorically, her body and armor still heavily damaged from the previous trials of the dungeon. "We must press onward!"

Kazuma grabbed her by her ponytail, yanking Darkness back to the group and making her yelp loudly with sexual pleasure. Kazuma immediately regretted his actions but held a firm grip on the woman.

"You're not dying just yet. I still need you just in case."

"Just in case what?" Darkness quickly asked. "Do you have plans to strip me down in this tomb and threaten to use their dirty, rotten fingers to-"

"Don't finish that sentence," Kazuma ordered, his grip accidentally tightening on her hair when she mentioned the rotting fingers.

Kazuma's face went blank and pale when he looked at the two people beside him. Two.

"Where's Aqua-"

"What's in here?"

"Aqua!" Kazuma yelled. "For a priestess, I thought you'd have more respect for the dead?!"

Aqua stared confused into the stone and bone coffin. She reached into it just as the rest of the party caught up to her. Upon arriving, they stopped.

"A note?"

The rest were silent of Aqua opened it. It was a piece of degraded parchment that when unrolled depicted the door just ahead. It showed in what order the circles were supposed to be and in another picture, it showed how to instead a claw-shaped object. There was writing on the edges of the parchment, but the paper was so withered and the ink used to write them so old that it was impossible to decipher them.

Aqua had begun to wander off again, this time in the direction of the door just ahead. Kazuma had snuck up behind her and silently whispered "freeze" as a single finger was aimed at the nape of her neck.

She howled in surprise and shock at the cold, dropping the platinum claw she took on her foot and ended up screaming in pain. "Kazuma! Why are you so mean to me!?"

"Can we go home and let someone else deal with this?" Megumin asked, holding her staff close to her and glancing around the room in a paranoid fashion. "We've cleared the place enough. Can't we let Kyōya handle the rest?"

Kazuma froze at hearing Kyōya's name. He turned towards Megumin and answered with a simple and stern, "No."

"But you've agreed with me this whole time! Why change your mind now!?"

"I have no idea what you are talking about Megumin. I have always been as zealous as our dear Aqua in sanctifying this tomb."e

"Nuh-uh! You're lying-"

"Aqua open the door."

Aqua, with the largest grin she could muster, aligned the circles on the door and held the caw to the centermost circle.

"Aqua don't!" Megumin cried while Kazuma held her back. "I don't wanna die down here! I don't wanna die!"

The moment when Aqua inserted the platinum claw is when all hell broke loose. The doors rotated around and reset themselves, shaking the dust stuck between the rotating circles out of them and onto Aqua and Darkness. After locking themselves in place the door slowly slid down and open.

A gale blew out from the wall, accompanied by frostbite and cold water. It blew the party backward and off of their feet. Aqua was knocked back the furthest and Megumin the second furthest just behind Kazuma.

Darkness stood strong, however, the bitterly cold winds sending an erotic rush throughout her body. She charged at the source, sword aimed high ready to miss whatever target she was aiming for.

In no time for the rest of the party to react, a strong series of lightning strikes flew through the room. Static filled the air near Aqua, Kazuma, and Megumin, and Darkness let out a pleasured yelp as the sounds of what remained of her armor hit the floor.

"Darkness!" Kazuma yelled, staring at her unmoving body. He looked up from Darkness's body and stared into the dead, blue glowing eyes of some type of lich. Its feet hovered only slightly over a foot off the ground, and in its hand was a long golden staff depicting the head of a dragon.

Her face was in the floor again. "This is exhilarating!" She shouted in a muffled voice. "Are you going to defile me? Will you break my will and- I mean, perish undead beast!"

It was nice to know that Darkness was still alive. Kinda. "Darkness, are you okay!?" He shouted across the room.

"I cannot move!" She yelled back happily and muffled. At least she could speak, but given their (and her) scenario, that might just be a bad thing.

"Ruzun fod dreh rah hiif joor nistmaar?" The lich spoke, looking directly at Aqua.

It held his staff outward and began to charge up a magical attack, sky blue in color. Upon its release, a large shard of ice traveled through the air and to Aqua's head. Kazuma pushed her down and out of the way, letting the shard shatter on the wall.

"Open up, open up, open up!" Kazuma looked towards the shouting Megumin who was frantically pulling on the door of the room and shouting her head off.

"Nii fen ni bex," The lich spoke again looking at Megumin.

He held his staff out again, this time charging a spell in the color of a bright, crimson red. He released it aimed at Megumin, and in the rush of panic, she didn't think to dodge or duck, only continuing to pull more frantically.

Fortunately for her, the spell exploded early and Darkness flew backward into the wall beside the door. There was a firm imprint of dirt in Darkness's shape, but no clear indentation.

"You will be missed," Kazuma sighed.

Darkness mumbled in joyous pain and then fell face-first into the floor. The signs of her being alive were her breathing pushing her chest off the ground.

"We're gonna die!" Megumin screamed, shrinking in on herself.

Aqua had rushed at the floating undead while Megumin was screaming. Her fist was charged with holy light and the distance was being closed faster than Kazuma expected. She was merely feet away from the lich and her fist was fully wound back. In a fast and heavy motion, she swung her fist forward and it collided with the undead's face. The lich was sent flying backward and crashed into the far back wall of the room it came out of.

Aqua, still teeming with the wrath of herself, stomped forward towards the back room. The lich impacted the wall with a great amount of force and the metal decorations on its clothing shattered on the floor. Soon it began to turn to ash and form a pile of dust, clothes, skin, and all, leaving behind a strangely shaped staff as the only proof of its existence.

Kazuma walked up to the staff once held by the lich and watched as the wall behind the puzzle door collapsed. The light of day and a chilly breeze swept through the tomb, enticing the group of four to meet it. Kazuma was the first to leave the crypt, with a shaking Megumin approaching the exit. Aqua was second behind Kazuma and Darkness, with her legs wobbly and unstable, was third.

Megumin latched onto the back of Aqua's dress still trapped in a scared state. Then they heard a distinct kind of roar across the sky, something which immediately turned Kazuma and Megumin around... to face a mountain wall. There was no opening into a crypt, no door, or even a tiny, little crack for air to get into.

Kazuma frantically began banging in the mountain side hoping to cave something in, but could cause nothing to collapse. What was worse is that with every strike against the mountainside, nothing but a dense thud was heard.

And then a rumble.

It was very loud and noticeable and seemed to come from above them. All heads looked up at the mountain peak and responded with an unsurprised shock and the flood of snow coming down at them.

Kazuma couldn't help but feel slightly responsible. There was a collective scream among the group before everything went white.

Kazuma was the first to dig his way out of the snow. He scanned the area around him, his eyes first landing on Darkness's legs squirming, upside down in the snow. Approaching the crusader, stuck upside down in the snow, he grabbed onto her ankles and pulled towards himself. The moment Darkness resurfaced she glanced every which way and eventually landed her eyes on Kazuma.

Kazuma reeled back after looking at her face initially. The entire left side of her forehead and most of the left side of her face was covered in blood, which seemed to originate from the top of her head. If her red-stained blonde hair wasn't evidence enough.

"Darkness are you okay?" Kazuma asked.

"Never been better!" She responded gleefully. Her eyes widened in a way that should have caused pain, but she didn't even wince. Kazuma took a small step away from her.

"Right, well, you can look for Aqua and Megumin, and I'll go back to Axel-"

"You two!" He heard an unfamiliar voice shout behind him. The tone wasn't accusatory nor was it suspicious, but rather concerned and curious. "Are you okay?"

Kazuma turned around to face the figure, seeing a lone man, several heads taller than darkness who still looked quite young, approaching the two. "We're fine-"

"Kazuma!" A too-familiar voice shouted, almost too happily.

The stranger turned his head to look at the source of the voice and Kazuma also searched for it, his sight quickly landing on Aqua. "I found her and some other girl caught in the avalanche-"

"Kazuma!" Aqua cried, running towards him and Darkness. The goddess tripped over a protruding rock, falling face-first into the snow. Just when he thought he had lost her for good.

"Where can we find the nearest town?" Kazuma called over to the stranger.

"Not sure," he answered. "I only just arrived in this country."

"Sorry for asking then," Kazuma said back. "We'll find our way around. You wouldn't at least have a map, or maybe a spare?"

"Again, no," the stranger kindly responded. "Will you all at least be alright?"

Kazuma looked back at Darkness who was still drenched in the blood from her head wound, though the bleeding had begun to slow. Aqua was still picking herself up from the snow she had fallen in and Megumin making her way into view.

"We should be fine," Kazuma answered. "I guess we'll be headed for civilization."

"Goodbye, friend!" The man waved off as he made his way east. "Talos protect you!"

"Who?" He muttered under his breath.

Aqua had finally picked herself up and Megumin had finally caught up to the group. Kazuma was impatient and began walking northward. His group soon followed him in search of a town or some kind of settlement. Even a small encampment would do, they could point them in the direction of a town, and then they could buy a map.

He was feeling hungry too. Maybe there was an inn somewhere along the road, they could fill up his stomach in the meantime.

In four hours they had managed to make their way to a small village that sat right against a river. Despite it only being a four-hour trip it felt much longer. Kazuma had never sweat this much on a cool autumn day in his life.

As they made their way to the archway which acted as a barrier to the town all four of them noticed the heraldry draped over the stonework. It was a white and bright yellow color with a depiction horse's head put into the banner.

"Hey, Darkness, do you recognize that insignia?" Kazuma asked the paladin.

"I don't believe so," she answered.

Finally, they entered the village. There was a lumber mill right at the entrance, which was also reasonably the closest building to the river. The main road was littered with a few dozen houses and a few more houses sat on the hill to the east.

A handful of children were chasing each other through the streets in a game of tag and a shaggy dog was joining in. Just a few houses down the party heard the sound of a hammer pounding against metal, likely a blacksmith working at his forge. Behind the houses on their left, they heard a lumber mill at work and logs being stacked with the loud sound of wood slamming against wood.

It was a rather lively scene.

The door to the house directly right of him opened and he heard the voice of a grown man shout back inside, "I will get your medicine mother, so can you please be quiet!"

"Sven, you brat-" the man named Sven shut the door behind him and cut his mother off.

"Damn crone," he cursed, trotting off onto the main path. He left his front porch and stepped onto the path, quickly locking eyes with Kazuma and his party. "Oh hello," he said to the group. "I haven't seen you around here before. I take it you're all new?"

"We were looking for a place to get food and maybe spend the rest of the day," Kazuma responded. "Is there an inn in the area?"

"Go in a straight line down the road and you'll see the Sleeping Giant Inn. Can't miss it, it has a sign with its name on it."

Kazuma gave a thumbs up to the man as a sign of appreciation, before walking off to the inn with his party in tow. Tired and hungry, Kazuma hurried to the location of whatever food he could get his hands on.

"See you around, stranger," said Sven, headed off in the direction of the lumber mill.

...

A waitress was with them mere minutes within them sitting down. She appeared to be one of the only two employees of the establishment, with a burly, male, brunette tending the counter. It was a middle-aged woman, likely in her late thirties, with blonde hair tied back into a ponytail. It wasn't Kazuma's definition of a milf, but he could still try to imagine.

Kazuma noticed the look she gave Aqua, who had her head on the table almost ready to pass out. He wasn't sure what the look entailed, but it wasn't anything good.

"You four new in town?" She asked, holding a thin piece of paper.

"We're just looking for a place to stay the night and get some food," Kazuma answered.

"Well we don't have rooms for parties of four, and two are being used," the woman told him, putting the paper down on their table. "This is what we have available for the moment. I'll be back in a bit."

It wasn't a five-star restaurant, let alone an actual restaurant, but the menu was a bit more sparse than he expected. The list of food items was limited and odd sounding at least, with something called "Smoked Horker" being at the top of the list of weird. The remaining three options out of the seven given items were either gross-sounding or mundane. There was apple and cabbage stew, salmon steak, and tomato soup.

There wasn't much to choose from, and he wasn't all too ready to find out what snowberry stew tasted like. Tomato soup it is. It was probably the least expensive thing on the menu.

"Can you pass the menu?" Aqua requested, tired and hungry.

Kazuma slid over the menu to Aqua. He quickly began to hear her whine, "There's nothing on here."

"Just pick something," Kazuma told her as if she were a child.

"Salmon," she answered bitterly before passing the menu to darkness.

Suddenly, a question former in Kazuma's head. 'Are we still in the same country?' he thought.

For one, they fell off a mountain cliff and barely managed to survive the fall. Yes, the crypt they had entered was embedded into a mountain, but Kazuma's sense of direction told him that they found themselves on the other side. Countries are often defined by natural borders like mountains or rivers, so it wouldn't stand against reason the think they had accidentally crossed borders. The stranger they met at the mountain base had seemed to suggest he was a traveler wandering countries as well.

Second was the sigil on the banner just outside the village. The country that Axel sat in, Bel-something (he couldn't remember the country's name), had a different coat of arms than the one that sat outside the village.

Or it could be possible they crossed into the territory of a very proud noble. The last noble he encountered almost tried to execute him, but the one he was friends with kept him alive. On the other hand, the one who kept him alive is a perverted masochist who risks her life more than she should.

"Hey, Darkness, what countries do we border?" Kazuma asked.

"Well, the demon king's territory is in the northeast of Belzerg, Elroad is directly south and Brydle lies southwest. Why, do you ask?"

Belzerg! That was the country's name.

"Is Eris used in every country on the continent, or just in Belzerg?" Kazuma further inquired, hoping they could at least pay for their meal.

"It is in Elroad due to its casinos, but no other countries outside of Belzerg. At least not to my knowledge."

Finally, the barmaid came back to them, again giving Aqua a strange stare. Her posture was just as curious (or suspicious) as it was before. Her eyes locked off of Aqua and drifted to each individual in Kazuma's team.

"You all done?" She asked the table.

"Before we tell you what we want, can I ask if you accept foreign currency?" Asked Kazuma, pulling up his coin satchel. He opened the pouch and pulled out a small silver coin, an Eris.

"Let me see," said the woman, gently taking the coin out of Kazuma's hand. She looked closely, inspecting the back and front of the coin. She felt along the smooth ridges of the side. "Don't recognize the coinage. What country is this from?"

"Belzerg," He answered, only getting a strange stare from the woman. She looked at him as if he explained Einstein's theory of relativity to a medieval peasant.

"Never heard of the place," she told him. "I can't accept your money if I don't know where it's from."

"So no food?"

"No food, so if you can't buy anything you're just wasting space-"

"I mean, we can give you all the silver in the bag," Kazuma interrupted. "You could take it to a blacksmith, have him melt it into silver chunks or small ingots-"

"Can't accept the money," she repeated. "I don't know how you got it. I don't know where it's from. I can't accept your money. So if you can't pay, you can't stay."

"Could you just please give us this mercy?" Kazuma pleaded. "We haven't eaten anything in three days-"

"What are you- ow!" Aqua was quickly cut off by Megumin's staff being purposefully slammed on her foot.

Kazuma sighed pitifully. "We've been having a rough time. Can we please have some pity?"

The barmaid punched the bridge of her nose and muttered a curse under her breath. She lowered her hand down at her side and stared at Kazuma in his eyes. "There are some bandits holed up in a mine south of Riverwood. Go down the southern path and follow the road for about ten minutes, off to your left should be the mine a bit into the woods. They've been harassing our lumberjacks, hunters, and Khajiit caravans that have been passing through. Deal with them and, I'll consider giving you a break."

Immediately Kazuma shot up from his seat and dragged Aqu by the back of her shirt collar towards the door. "Great!" he said, "We'll be back in an hour or two."

AN: I have been working on this one chapter for over a year (as in I have been working on this on and off for a few months, as most of the time it has been sitting stagnant, and not being worked on as I am working on short-chapter fics or catching my others up to speed). It's something that's been burrowed in the back of my mind for even longer actually, and this is finally finished.
