It was Christmas Eve and Callen and Zoya sat in the living room after Maya had gone to bed.
"I know we're doing presents tomorrow morning but I wanted to give you this already," Zoya told him as she handed him the present.
"What's this?"
"Just open it."
Callen took the present and opened it. Inside he found a Christmas tree ornament. It was a photo frame. The photo frame had a white edge and silver and red snowflakes on it. On the bottom stood "Best gift ever" and there was a photo inside the frame. Callen looked at the photo. I looked a lot like… wait this was real? Callen looked at Zoya and smiled.
"Is this for real?"
"Yes it is."
"You're pregnant?!" Callen asked with a big smile on his face.
"Yes I am," Zoya replied with the same smile. "About eight weeks along."
Callen put the photo frame down on the coffee table and pulled Zoya to him in a big hug. Zoya wrapped her arms around his neck as Callen shifted her so she was sitting on his lap. Callen pulled out of the hug and kissed Zoya deeply.
"You're really pregnant?" Callen asked again as he cupped her face.
"Yes I am."
Callen pulled Zoya close and kissed her again. He couldn't believe his wife was pregnant. They had been trying for a while now with no success. But now there was a little baby. They were gonna have a little baby of their own. Callen moved to lay Zoya down on the couch as he hovered above her.
"I love you," Callen told her with so much passion in his voice.
Zoya could see the love written all over his face. "I love you too."
Callen moved his hand down lower and rested it on her stomach. "There's a little baby in here."
"Yes there is. Our little baby."
Callen wanted to kiss her again but then stopped. Zoya looked at him, questioning why he stopped.
"You're not gonna go out into the field right?" Callen asked concerned.
"No, I'm not gonna go chasing after bad guys anymore. I won't do anything that puts me at risk for catching a bullet or something."
"Good, cus I don't want anything to happen to either of you."
"It won't."
Zoya pulled Callen close to her and kissed him again. Her pregnancy hormones were definitely in full force already. She craved her husband every second of every day. Callen pulled out of the kiss and moved his lips down to her neck. Just the brief contact with her pulse point had her panting already.
"Oh G," Zoya moaned.
Before Zoya realized it she was reaching her high point already.
"Did you just….?" Callen asked.
"Yes, yes, it just feels so good," Zoya moaned. "Take me upstairs, now!"
"Hmm I don't know. The couch seems pretty comfortable to lay on," Callen teased.
"Grisha Callen, если ты сейчас не отведешь меня наверх ...[Grisha Callen, if you don't take my upstairs right now…]" Zoya started but then was caught off when Callen kissed her.
"Терпение[Patience]," Callen told her with a smirk.
"Grisha пожалуйста[please]," Zoya moaned as Callen kissed her neck again.
Realizing it was cruel to tease her more Callen stood up and picked her up. He shut the lights down and carried Zoya up the stairs. He carried her to their bedroom and closed and locked the door before gently laying her down on the bed. Clothes quickly flew everywhere and Callen pulled the covers over them before he joined them.
Afterwards they lay in each other's arms. Callen was lying on his back and Zoya was resting her head on his chest.
"счастливого Рождества[Merry Christmas], Grisha," Zoya told him.
"счастливого Рождества, Zoya," Callen replied and gave her a soft kiss on her head. "This was really the most beautiful Christmas present I ever got. I can't believe we're really having a little baby."
"Yeah I couldn't believe it either when it found out."
"How long have you known?"
"Just a few days. I took a test earlier this week and yesterday I had an appointment with the doctor to confirm it."
"Ah so that's why you went in early yesterday."
"Yep. I wanted to be absolutely sure before I would tell you. I couldn't believe it when I saw the little baby on the screen. I didn't think it was gonna happen."
"Yeah I know, me neither. But it did, there's a little baby in here," Callen replied as she placed his hand on Zoya's stomach.
"Yes there is, our little baby. I wonder how Maya will react tomorrow."
"I think she'll love it."
"I know she technically won't be his or her big sister but I'm pretty sure she's gonna be one for our little baby."
"Oh yes, I think she will."
"We should probably get some sleep cus Maya will probably be up earlier tomorrow."
"Yeah probably. I'll go put the milk and cookies out and then take Maya downstairs so she can sleep on the couch."
"You got your Christmas suit ready for tonight and the presents?"
"Yes got it here in the closet."
"Good."
Callen and Zoya dressed themselves in their pajamas and Callen went downstairs to put the milk and cookies ready and then went to get Maya. Maya stirred a bit when Callen picked her up but slept through as Callen carried her down. He placed Maya on the couch and then pulled a blanket over her before going back upstairs. Zoya was already asleep by the time Callen came back upstairs so he quietly crawled into bed and set his alarm so he would wake up in time to play Santa Clause. Callen crawled closer to Zoya and wrapped his arm around her. He still couldn't quite believe that Zoya actually was pregnant. After all this time it had finally happened, they were gonna have a little baby of their own. Callen had had some practice being a parent with raising Maya but having a baby would be totally different. Callen hoped he would be a good dad to their little baby. Callen snuggled up to Zoya and fell asleep a little later. Around 3am the alarm went off. Callen got out and dressed himself in a Santa suit and grabbed the bag of gifts before quietly going downstairs. Zoya followed and stayed hidden on the stairs so she could take a picture.
Callen walked up to the Christmas tree and began placing the presents underneath the tree.
"Santa?" Maya's sleepy voice sounded from behind him.
"Hey Maya," Callen spoke with a bit of a deeper voice. "You have been a really good girl this year. Santa has put some wonderful presents for you under the tree. So go to sleep like a good girl and tomorrow you can open them."
"Goodnight Santa."
"Goodnight Maya."
Callen placed the presents underneath the tree and when he noticed Maya had fallen asleep again he went back upstairs.
The next morning Maya came storming into their bedroom just after 8am.
"Uncle Grisha, Aunt Zoya! Santa came!" Maya yelled as she jumped on their bed.
"Hey sweetie," Zoya replied.
"Santa came Aunt Zoya, come downstairs."
"Alright, we'll be right there."
Maya ran back downstairs.
"Good morning honey," Callen spoke to Zoya and kissed her. "Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas Grisha. Come on, we should go downstairs."
"Just a second." Callen pushed Zoya down on the bed and kissed her deeply. "I love you."
"I love you too."
"And I love our little baby in here too," Callen said as she placed his hand on Zoya's stomach.
"I'm sure our little baby loves you too."
Callen gave Zoya one more kiss before they went downstairs. The three of them sat around the Christmas tree and Maya picked the presents and read the nametag and handed the presents to the one it was for. Maya got a lot of toys and there were some presents for Callen and Zoya as well. There was one present left. Maya grabbed it from deep underneath the tree and looked at the package to find the name.
"There's no name on this one," Maya stated.
"Hmm no name? Then who is it for?" Zoya replied, although she knew that this was the present to tell Maya that they were gonna have a little baby.
"I don't know."
"Maybe you should open it then to find out."
Maya opened the package and it revealed a card. On the card stood Maya in big gold letters and underneath that in small black letters: we have something to tell you. Underneath that was a big golden heart and at the bottom of the card stood scratch me. Maya grabbed something and started scratching the heart.
"What does it say Maya?"
Once Maya was finished scratching the heart she read: "You're gonna be a big cousin."
"Do you know what that means Maya?"
"There's a baby?"
"Yes there is. Uncle Grisha and I are gonna have a little baby, your little cousin."
"You're gonna have a little baby?!" Maya spoke excited.
"Yes we are. The baby will be here around the summer."
Maya crawled over to Zoya and Callen and gave them both a hug. "I'm gonna be the best big cousin."
"Yes you will sweetie."
Callen went to clean up the wrapping paper as Maya went to play with her new toys. They relaxed around the house for the rest of the day until it was time to cook dinner. Zoya and Maya went to the kitchen to prepare for dinner as Callen put some more tables and chairs out. Zoya's family and Maya's other grandparents were coming over for Christmas. Maya helped Zoya to make dinner and the dessert. Zoya was busy making dough for the pirozhkis, while Maya was cutting up the apples into small pieces. Once the dough was ready Zoya put it somewhere warm so it could rise.
"How's it going Maya?" Zoya asked.
"The apples are almost done," Maya replied.
"Great."
While the dough was rising Zoya went to get everything done for the turkey.
"Grisha, can you grab the turkey from the fridge in the garage please?" Zoya called into the room.
"Yeah got it."
Callen got the turkey from the fridge and brought it to the kitchen.
"You girls are doing okay in here?" Callen asked.
"Yes, we're right on schedule. How's the dining area coming?"
"Almost done."
"Great."
When Zoya was done preparing it she put it in the oven. It needed to be in there for a few hours. Now that the turkey was in the oven Zoya went to prepare the side dishes.
The dough was done so Zoya put it on the counter and made it into a ball before making a flat disk of it. She cut the disk into twelve pieces.
"Can you roll these pieces into little balls?" Zoya asked Maya.
While Maya was making balls out of it Zoya went to check on the turkey. It was cooking nicely in the oven.
"Are these alright Aunt Zoya?" Maya asked when she was done.
"Yes they are perfect. Now grab a ball and flatten it with your hand like this." Zoya showed Maya how to do it.
While Maya flattened the dough Zoya put the filling inside and made nice little moon-shaped packages of it. When they were done Zoya put them in the fridge for now, they only would take a few minutes to bake. The only thing now left to prepare was the dessert. She was gonna make sharlotka, which was a Russian apple cake.
"Alright, we have the apples already so now we have to make the batter." Zoya grabbed the necessary items. Zoya broke the eggs and put them into the bowl and Maya added the cup of sugar. Zoya grabbed the mixer and gave it to Maya before turning it on. "Move it through the whole batter so everything gets mixed," Zoya told Maya.
While Maya was mixing Zoya cleaned up a bit. Once the dough was done Zoya turned the mixer off and put it away.
"Alright now we add the flour." Zoya handed Maya the cup. "Now gently add the flour while I mix it with the spatula."
Zoya mixed until the dough was ready and then grabbed the springform and sprayed it so the cake wouldn't stick to the edges.
"Okay now put in the apples and spread them over the bottom," Zoya instructed Maya. Maya took the bowl with cut up apples and threw them in the springform and spread them over the bottom. "Alright, now the batter." Zoya held the bowl with batter so Maya could ladle it out with the spatula and into the springform.
Once all the batter was in Zoya made sure the batter was equally spread before putting it in the fridge. Once the turkey was done she would put it in the oven.
"Alright that was it. We're done so far. Thank you my little helper."
"You're welcome Aunt Zoya."
"Wash your hands before you go play."
Maya washed her hands and went to play while Zoya cleaned up in the kitchen. Everything was prepared now and the turkey was in the oven. Callen had finished putting the tables and chairs up.
"I'm just gonna go hop in the shower and get dressed," Zoya told Callen before she walked upstairs.
"Alright, I'll keep Maya company."
"Will you play a game with me Uncle Grisha?" Maya asked.
"Of course."
Maya had gotten a new Disney memory game so she wanted to play that. Callen helped Maya with putting the cards out before Maya could begin the game. When Zoya came back down they had finished the game. Callen looked as Zoya walked into the room. She looked so beautiful in her dress. She wore a knee length dress with a black top and a red plaid skirt. She finished the dress off with black panty hose and red pumps. You couldn't really tell yet that Zoya was pregnant but Callen couldn't wait to see her with her beautiful baby bump. He was sure she would look so beautiful with it.
"Come on Maya, let's get dressed too," Callen said and he and Maya went upstairs. Before going upstairs Callen stole a quick kiss from Zoya. "You look beautiful."
"Thank you."
A little later Callen and Maya came back downstairs, also dressed in their Christmas outfits. Maya wore the same dress as Zoya but then in the kids version and Callen was dressed in a pair of dress jeans with a blue paid shirt and dark blue jacket on top of it. They all sat in front of the Christmas tree to take a family Christmas picture. Around 5pm the guests started arriving. They sat around the living room for a while before they sat down to eat. Callen carried the turkey to the table as Zoya and Maya got the other dishes. Everyone was enjoying dinner very much and the piroshki's had turned out great. When it was time for dessert Zoya went to get the apple cake of the oven and removed it from the springform to put it on a plate. She grabbed some powdered sugar and put it on tope of the cake before taking it to the table. She put it on the middle of the table.
"That looks delicious," Zoya's dad, Ethan, stated.
"What's with the colored powdered sugar though sis?" Zoya's sister Eva asked.
"I just felt like putting some pink and blue on it," Zoya looked at Callen, hoping they would get the hint.
Zoya saw the hint landing with her mom and Vera started smiling. "Are you two having a baby?"
"Yes we are," Zoya replied with a smile.
"Oh my! Congrats!"
They all came over to congratulate Callen and Zoya.
"How far along are you?" Zoya's brother, Ivan, asked.
"Eight weeks along."
"I'm so happy for you two," Vera said. "I know you're been trying for a while."
"Yeah we have, I didn't think it was gonna happen but it finally did. We're very happy about it."
They all enjoyed there dessert. They all stayed for a bit longer before everyone went back home. Callen carried a sleepy Maya up the stairs and put her to bed as Zoya started cleaning up downstairs. A little later Callen returned downstairs and helped Zoya clean the tables before he put them and the chairs away. Zoya was almost done in the kitchen when Callen walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her.
"This was a very wonderful Christmas," Callen stated.
"Yes it was. I was very funny to see my family trying to figure out what the blue and pink powdered sugar meant."
"Yeah it was. You were right, this was a fun way to tell them."
"Yeah it was."
Callen gave her a kiss before they went to watch some time before going up to bed.
…
Before they knew it, it was New Year's Eve already. Sam and his family where coming over to celebrate New Year's Eve with them.
"Hey guys," Callen greeted them as he opened the door when the ball rang just after 4pm.
"Hey G," Sam and Michelle greeted him.
"Hey uncle Callen," Kamran spoke and gave Callen a hug.
"Hey Kam."
Aiden wasn't joining them. He was away training.
"Come on in guys."
They hung up their coats and followed Callen inside.
"Hey Zoya," Michelle said. "We brought the champagne."
"Thank you," Zoya replied as she took the bottle from Michelle, although she wouldn't be drinking it tonight. But that was for later. They had planned something to reveal to Sam and Michelle that they were having a baby. They just relaxed around the living room and Maya went to play with Kam. Just after 6pm they sat down to eat. They had ordered in Chinese. After dinner they all played a game of charades. Zoya, Callen and Maya on one team and Michelle, Sam and Kam on the other.
Just before midnight Callen got the champagne ready, they had non-alcoholic champagne for Maya and Kam and for Zoya too. Zoya had bought two confetti guns for Kam and Maya so they got pop them when the clock reached midnight.
"Alright girls, are you ready?" Zoya asked with just thirty seconds to go.
"Yes aunt Zoya we're ready," Maya replied.
"Alright, let's count down….. ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one, happy new year," they all counted down.
At one Maya and Kam popped there confetti guns and blue and pink streamers came popping out.
