It was two days before Valentine's day and Wataru Takagi was browsing his favourite book-shop's shelves, looking for one book in particular. It was one of those 'hundred books'. Not 'One hundred fun games to play with your dogs', 'One hundred funny stories to tell your friends,' or 'One hundred cheap and tasty recipes.' It was something different. He eventually found it. Then a child's voice made him jump:

"Detective Takagi! What are you doing here?"

He turned around and found himself in front of the Detective Boys. The very last people he wanted to interact with right now. Ok, he liked them but they had a nasty tendency to ask too many questions.

"I'm… buying something for my girlfriend!" he said embarrassedly.

"That's great!" Mitsuhiko said enthusiastically. "People don't read enough books, I think. Which book is it?"

"Is it this one?" Ayumi asked while grabbing the book from his hand.

Takagi pulled instinctively and the book slipped from both their hands. Haibara picked it up, read the title, dropped it and glanced at Conan, shaking her head slightly. He understood at once and tried to change the subject:

"Hey, the next Kamen Yaiba magazine was released yesterday. What about buying it now?"

"No!" Mitsuhiko said. "It will be released tomorrow. You confuse days, Conan."

"But what's this book?" Genta asked while grabbing it. "One hundred ways to have a good time with your partner in bed?!"

Everyone fell silent and an employee stared at Takagi disapprovingly. The detective looked down at his shoes.

"It's a grown-up book," he said embarrassedly. "Honestly, I really think you should buy this Kamen Yaiba book when it's released. It sounds fun!"

It was a desperate attempt at changing the subject and unfortunately, it didn't seem to work. Takagi was feeling completely lost. What could he do? How was he supposed to explain the joys of adult love to six-year-olds? Should he lie to them?

"Are you going to sleep in Detective Sato's bed?" Ayumi asked.

"Well… yes," Takagi said. "But it's a grown-up thing. If a grown-up ever tells you to share a bed, you have to say no and tell someone you trust!"

"You adults are weird," Genta said. "Why do you share beds? It's not comfortable. Bunk beds are so much better!"

"Yeah!" Mitsuhiko said. "No offence meant but there's nothing better than bunk beds!"

"Isn't it obvious?" Ayumi asked. "They do the love thing!"

"They WHAT?!" asked Takagi, Conan and Haibara at the same time.

"They do the love thing!" Ayumi said with little hearts in her eyes. "They hold hands, they say how much they love each other, they fall asleep holding hands and they're still holding hands when they wake up!"

Of course she was imagining grown-up versions of Conan and herself 'doing the love thing' together. Takagi nodded, relieved.

"Yes. Of course. I'm going to hold hands with my girlfriend!"

"Maybe you could do other fun things with her," Mitsuhiko suggested. "Watching TV would be nice."

"And having a good dinner," Genta said. "And a good breakfast in bed the day after!"

"And playing with the pussycat," Haibara said matter-of-factly.

Conan had to bite his own hand so he wouldn't burst into laughter and Takagi turned bright red, wondering why kids say so many double-meaning things. On the other hand, Genta, Mitsuhiko and Ayumi looked puzzled.

"I don't think they have a cat," Ayumi said. "Or a dog."

"I apologize for her," Mitsuhiko said. "She loves cats so much she imagines they're everywhere."

"It's OK," Takagi said. "I have to go now."

He went to pay for his book and left the place before the kids asked him more about the habits of grown-ups in bed.

Later, he and Sato had a good laugh about it.
