Disclaimer: I do not own Star Wars, obviously.

Baylan managed to find a very small cave that would be able to serve as something of a temporary shelter. He laid Shin on a thick slab of rock, almost like a bench, that could serve as a bed. The howler stayed nearby, plopping onto the ground to sleep. For a few moments, Baylan wasn't sure what to do, but he eventually sat down on the slab of rock. He brushed Shin's bangs away from her face, "I'm so sorry Shin," he said, "I never should've pushed you away." What was happening now was the result of his decisions. It wouldn't have happend if he hadn't told her to go, it wouldn't have happened if he hadn't brought her here in the first place. She had only come because of him. She was loyal, always following him, and always doing what he told her to. Now it was quite possible that her life was hanging in the balance, and it was his fault. There wasn't anything he could do, even now she was blocking her connection to the Force. "Please Shin, please come back, please don't give up now."

Shin opened her eyes and forced herself to stand. "Where am I?" she murmured. Her surroundings were gray and foggy.

"You're in-between." A vaguely familiar voice answered. Shin whirled around. Standing a few feet away was a figure cloaked entirely in black, their face obscured.

"In-between what?" Shin demanded, reaching for her lightsaber.

"Many things," the mysterious figure replied, "But to put it simply, you are in-between life...and death."

"How do I leave this place?"

The mysterious figure motioned towards some mountains not to far away, "Go straight through the mountain pass, cross the river, go through the forest, follow the golden path, climb the stairs and get to the gate. Life or death, you must make the choice...it's the only way out."

"Who are you?" Shin asked, but the figure was gone. She debated for a moment if she should do what they told her, but figured she didn't really have a choice. There really weren't any other options.

A/N: Yeah, this one was short, the next one should be longer. This is only T rated because I'm being overly cautious, and because it's a bit darker than what I normally write. Anyway, I apologize for any grammar mistakes. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed.
