Lieu De Paix 2, chapter 1
Alaska
It was hard, keeping my hands off of Edward. We tried, we wanted to avoid accidentally getting pregnant again. The only thing that helped mitigate the urge was the idea that after I became a vampire, we could really go at it. Edward wouldn't have to be gentle or so in control anymore. He could let go and enjoy it fully, and I couldn't wait to witness it.
After Renesmee's initial introduction, we were invited into the Denali home. They wanted to know more about how she came to be. Skipping the 'birds and the bees' talk and skimming over our stay in La Push before the Cullen's return for Renesmee's sake, we explained everything that happened.
The house was already massive, but upon entering the front part, where the living room was, the high ceiling made it feel even larger. The rest was in a loft style with, I'm assuming, the bedrooms upstairs and the 'extras' for vampires on the first floor. Edward kept me close, then, in case my scent was too much for them.
"I see now why you were so troubled," Eleazer said. Edward chuckled sheepishly.
"Just blame it all on me. I'm the one with the mind you can't hear," I said. Though he supported the decision to turn me into a vampire, perhaps reminders, that what happened after we met wasn't his fault, might still be necessary.
"You're incredibly brave," Carmen complimented. "And so young,"
I smile softly. "I'd do it all again," I said. Renesmee props up Alice's teddy bear on my thighs and I play along with her. I could feel the Denali sisters burrowing a hole into me, or us. Hopefully, they'd warm up to her in time.
"You could let her show you," Edward told them. They all moved slightly backward.
"No. This is fine." Irina said.
"Hard to believe," Tanya muttered. Edward had told me long ago what happened when he ran away here. I almost felt bad she couldn't win his affection. She was beautiful, not as much as Rosalie, but beautiful as all vampires were. I wonder if it was us she found hard to believe or that Renesmee existed because of me.
"I prefer brunettes," Edward said. "One day, you'll know what it's like,"
I furrowed my eyebrows as I always did when I couldn't hear the hidden conversations.
"You faced werewolves on your own?" Tanya asked me.
"It helped that one was my friend," I said.
"You're more than welcome to stay, of course. But..." Eleazer started.
"We won't intrude on your house, we just-" I started.
"We're not sure if the Volturi will listen to what we have to say if they say her. They seem suspicious of Carlisle and... we figured it'd be best to hide her until she was older." Edward explained.
"Hard to say if keeping it a secret until then is a better idea," Eleazer murmured.
"They don't know about Bella, either. It's a big mess we've entangled ourselves in-"
"And you brought it here!" Tanya growled.
"We're really sorry," I said. "We didn't come here for your help in the matter, in regard to Renesmee, but to ask-hopefully, have your help in protecting her while I undergo the 'changes',"
"Turn her?" Edward confirms his guess.
"No one is supposed to know we exist- and no one but her does- But this way, I collect the 'loose ends'. If you could see into my mind, I'm sure you could understand why I couldn't resist,"
"Well... I can understand from here. Thank goodness we've fed," Eleazer said.
"You eat animals too?" Renesmee asked.
"Yes, 'Nessie. Their eyes are golden like the others," I told her.
"What do you eat?"
"Bears," Eleazer answered. He reminded me a little of Emmett. He has this 'mischievousness' about him.
"Emmett likes bears," she said with a grin. "They're too big for me. Deer is okay," she added with an upturned nose.
"Will mine change color?" she asked me.
"...not 'never'. Maybe someday," I said in a hushed voice. She still didn't know how we planned to cure her. We rather she not know a 'cure' was needed, maybe it'll allow her to grow up free of worry. But maybe telling her would.
"I can at least offer some assistance. But about her, I can't promise anything,"
"It's alright, Eleazer," Edward assured him.
"We appreciate it," I said.
We didn't tell them about the imprinting, mostly because Renesmee was present, and she didn't know anything about it. Edward rented us a house nearby (also nestled in the forest and hand-built by the owner, a small and cozy affair) and we went into town to collect some groceries for the humans.
I couldn't help but laugh, perusing the aisles with him, looking at products created for children with those brightly colored packaging, and mainstream music playing overhead.
"What's so funny?" he asked with a grin.
"We're grocery shopping. It's so...domestic,"
He pulls me in slightly to land a kiss on my head.
"To be a father, and do something as mundane as this with my wife is...incredible,"
Ahead of us, a couple argues slightly about which brand of applesauce to get. According to the wife, one had a couple more grams of sugar than the other and it mattered. Edward stops abruptly and pulls something off the shelves.
"Is there a brand we hate?"
"No," I chuckled. "Jake and I couldn't afford to be picky, but I tried to keep it healthy and 'pure'. I made a lot of the baby food by hand, actually. If she eats anything, it's a win," I said, referring to her preference for blood. Jacob helped her get accustomed to animal blood and though it wasn't her favorite, she still preferred it over food.
"Do you like this?" he hands it to Renesmee, who takes it and looks at it the same way he did, looking like a little adult. It was funny.
"Ummm...never had it. Might be good-Can we get cheddar doodles?!"
"Sure. Let's get some cereal. There's a company that makes a healthier version of them. I wanna try it out..." Suddenly I craved a lot of food, to have everything I loved to enjoy them before I couldn't anymore. Maybe it'd be Renesmee's lucky week-
"Oh my gosh! Your daughter is so beautiful!" the woman cried. We reached their end of the aisle, and she noticed us.
"Oh. Thanks," her husband looked equally as surprised as me.
"How old are you?"
"Five," Renesmee says, as a matter of fact. The woman looks confused for a second.
"Seven, honey, remember?"
"Oh. Yeah." This satisfies the lady but not Renesmee.
"Her hair is amazing," she gushes.
"I heard her speak; she speaks so well! I hope my baby is like her," the lady continued.
"Thank you," we say, and I keep pushing our cart forward. "Say 'bye' to the lady," I tell her,
"Bye,"
"Have a nice," I tell the lady and push us to the nearest vacant space.
"Nessie! You can't say you're five in public!" I said in a hushed whisper.
"Why. not."
"Because...it's something humans can't understand. Five year old's aren't big like you, and we have to keep the secret,"
"Why do I have to keep them comfortable..." she muttered, pouting. I sighed.
"I'm sorry..." she relents.
"I'm not mad," I tell her. It was a huge responsibility. I definitely didn't blame her for it being difficult. Plus, she hardly interacted with others, other humans, that is. She didn't have the practice.
"It's okay. I should have reminded you," I say, rubbing her arms. "We just can't attract too much attention,"
"I attract too much attention." She said.
Edward picks her up, satisfying the five-year-old she was.
"We can't always predict how others will react to things different from what they've always known. The rules aren't just to protect them and their way of life, they're to protect us and ours." He said, kissing her head to try and soften the blow.
"Then we can co-exist. We can live the same way they do. We can't help being different or wanting the same things," I added.
"The Denalis aren't afraid of you. They'll warm up to you like everyone else did," Edward assured her.
She still looked somewhat angry, somewhat troubled. I really didn't want her living with the Volturi hanging over her like an ominous umbrella, but for the foreseeable future that was the reality. I hoped her good nature could survive it.
Edward proceeded to answer her unasked questions at a level and speed she could understand, and I couldn't really pick up on.
"I would never trade you for anything in the world,"
"Too many rules. Stupid."
"It's not so bad," I said, trying to lift her spirits up. "We're working together with the Elders, now. C'mon, keep an eye out for those doodles,"
Maybe we should order our groceries instead. But I don't want to hide her. If we're going to be living here for a while, I wanted us to explore the town so, hopefully, she accepted this temporary living arrangement.
IDK what snacks she was holding, but something weird, like Fruity Sticks. Those look weird to me.
Hiii! So here I am, been getting Forks weather and was just in the mood to rejoin the fam.
