Different Perspectives Chapter 7

Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games.

Chive Carmichael, Victor of the 7th Hunger Games, 69 A:D:D

"Rosie's here to see you", I heard my grand daughter, Ginger, announce.

"You do realise, Ginger, that this will be the last time I'll see you lot?" I said

"What do you mean?" Ginger asked.

"I'm dying, but don't worry, I lived a long life" I told her and Rosie.

"Granny, can you tell us about your Games?" Rosie asked

"Okay then. Here's the story"

The 7th Hunger Games:

The night before the Games, the pipe at the abandoned warehouse, where the Tributes were placed before the Games, broke, causing a section of the warehouse to be flooded. I was one of the lucky ones, but my District Partner, Rufus Goth, drowned. President Ravinstill had the surveyors executed. Anyway, the Games started and just three Tributes died; a girl from District 10, a boy from District 4 and a girl from District 3. On Day 2, I ran into the boys from Districts 6 and 12, named Vladimir Gagarin and Dallas Gill. The three of us agreed to team up until the end.

"Wait, I thought District 12 never allied with anyone" Rosie muttered.

I wanted to do something my sister regretted, you see, she and Wheat turned down the offer of joining Harold's Alliance

"Wait, what do you mean by "Harold's Alliance"?" Ginger asked

In my sister's Hunger Games, the Fourth held in Panem, a Tribute from District 12 named Harold Hennessy proposed an Alliance between Tributes from Districts 9, 10, 11 and 12. He managed to get the Districts 10 and 11 into the Alliance, however, Wheat and my sister turned him down, stating that "Casca Highbottom would have a heart attack" if there was an eight-Tribute Alliance. Anyway, back to the story, the Alliance between myself, Vladimir and Dallas held out until Day 4, by that time there was four Tributes left; me, Vladimir, Dallas and a boy from District 2 named Alastor Harris. Anyway, Alastor went for Dallas, and despite the fight ending in his death, Dallas managed to cut off Alastor's arm. While Alastor bled to death, Vladimir died of starvation, resulting in me becoming the Victor. Sadly, my Games have never been re-aired.

"Wow, that's an interesting story" I heard Rosie comment.

You know what, I have witnessed many interesting Hunger Games over the years: Mags swimming in the stingray mutt infested waters to lure her final opponent in, the girl from District 5 drowning the Career from 2 in the 12th, the girl from District 6 wiping out the entire Career Pack from the upper floor of a house in the 19th, the girl from District 3 outrunning a flock of cassowary mutts in the 24th, Eric Vega's unlikely Victory for District 9 in the First Quarter Quell, the sewing box Arena and the District 3 cousins in the 27th, the first Second-Generation Victor in the 28th, that boy from 3's landmine trap that resulted in part of the Arena collapsing in the 29th; I remember a Capitol citizen died ten years ago after the ground above the cavern named after the boy, collapsed, forcing the Arena to be out-of-bounds. Beetee's wire trap in the 36th Hunger Games, Seeder rationing her food, Chaff fighting the boy from 2, Haymitch outliving forty-seven Tributes, Enobaria ripping out her final opponent's throat, the Ritchson Twins, the first set of sibling Victors since the Rowe brothers forty years ago, and only the third set of siblings to win the Games overall. Finnick Odair, the first fourteen-year-old to win the Games, Derry of District 8, won by sheer luck after an avalanche killed the Cannibal from 6, Augustus, "The Cavalier Career", who killed the pair from 6 to prevent them from being killed by the other Careers or the Gamemakers, the girl from 3, whose unique technique helped her in that Frozen Arena, and Aphrodite of District 1, the most recent Victor. Then there is also those who died; the memorably named boy from 6 in the 13th, the Twins from 6 in the 14th, the trickster of 6 in the 41st, Maysilee of 12 in the Second Quarter Quell, the horrible way little Tostig Wilkes died in the Second Quarter Quell, Emerald from 1 in the Second Quarter Quell, the boy from 1 in the 64th, Felix of 1 in the 68th, the grandson of the first ever Hunger Games Victor, and the kind Neil of 6 in the 69th, donating extra bottles of water to the District 5 Tributes, and then staying with the little girl from 12 as she dies. It's no wonder why Neil Landsup is so memorable, and even Aphrodite was in tears during her Interview; she felt she didn't earn it.

"Granny?" Ginger asked.

"This is it. I'm joining Ginger, Flora and Angelica" I muttered. "Ginger, as you all know, was my sister who died in the Fourth. I lived for those that died in the 7th. I lived for Flora and Angelica. Now I can die happy, that Rye and Maize will Mentor District 9". With that, I closed my eyes.

I need a long rest.

There are some slight spoilers to 75 Years in reference to some of the Tributes in the Arenas, and yes, the 12th Hunger Games Arena is a carry over from the first draft of 75 Years. You may have spotted the Career Tribute from the 12th Hunger Games in Therin's chapter. Rosie is the District 9 girl in the 74th Hunger Games. I have already got Chapters 19, 24, 28 and 29 written down, but they won't be posted until I publish their chapters as they reveal who the Victors are. Chapters 8 and 9 will be told from a pair of siblings who survived the experience, while Chapter 10 will be another Chapter told from the POV of the Districts. I will do a chapter told from the POV of the Capitol, but it will be a Quarter Quell chapter.
