Closer. And closer. And closer. And closer.

Or was they?

The train tracks looked further and further away the more I ran towards them. Avalanche was right on my tail so I knew I couldn't stop, not for a second. I had to pursue and get on that train. Oh how simple yesterday was, sleeping in a nice, crisp bed with breakfast and air conditioning, but with one major problem. I didn't know who or what I was.

And now I do.

My name is Emilia Tennant. I'm 15 years old, blonde, 5'4, got blue eyes, was born on the 17th of June, 2008, and I remember. I remember everything.

It all started 16 years ago, when my parents; Lucia Tennant and Marcus Tennant, got into serious financial trouble, and decided to enroll in a new and secretive program that was funded by a private company that specialised in chemicals, experimental drugs and medicines.

My parents were taken into a underground facility where they were paid to live in whilst the scientists gave them drugs of some kind, meant to help with our immune systems to make them immune to everything. All diseases, viruses, illnesses. The lot.

Unsurprisingly none of them worked the ways they were intended to, and before long Lucia brought a complication into the equation. She got pregnant.

With me.

That was when things changed. They decided to take Lucia away from Marcus and put her into an isolated environment, as they had no idea the effects it would have on the baby. Whether it would be abnormal, have super-powers, be impossibly intelligent or just plain average.

I was born normally, at least according to my file, I grew up normally, I learnt how to count and spell and play. I was essentially the most average girl in the world. Apart from the fact that I never got ill, not once in my entire life, not as a baby, not even a simple thing like a cold.

Dr. Callaghan saw the potential to create new types of cures and vaccines from my blood, so they took some a few years ago to test it out against diseases and viruses, and they must've found something special since they've kept me alive and took samples of my blood up until I escaped.

Ever since they realised my bloods potential I haven't seen anyone except Dr. Callaghan, my own personal doctor who comes to see my once a day to take blood samples and monitor my 'progress'.

I never knew Lucia or Marcus, they took me away right after birth and I never saw them, I have no idea where they are, if they're safe or still kept prisoner. I don't even know if they're still alive. And that's the worst part of it, the not knowing.

During the years I spent inside the facility, they injected me with all types of drugs to test me for something, for what that was I have no idea, only two words kept appearing all over the place...

'New Eden!

There were days that I was fine, most days to be honest. But there were days that the truth just overpowered my brain, and clasped itself onto my mind. I had nothing. No one. No friends. No parents. No pets. Nothing

I am well and truly alone. And you know what? That's okay.

If I grew attached to someone whilst inside, it would've made the decision to escape that much harder as I couldn't in good conscience leave them inside whilst I got out, and that would've just made things incredibly difficult.

Some of the soldiers opened fire with their rifles to try and stop me escaping, fearing I would go to the police or tell my story to expose and destroy Avalanche. They have no idea of my true intentions.

I just want to live.

A normal life, with a house, a cat, a regular boring job and maybe some friends if things go well. I have no need for revenge, I just want to live. But if I live, I pose a threat to them. I could expose them, and they can't take the risk.

Closer. And closer. And closer. And closer...

I jumped up onto the already moving train and slammed shut the rusted door. I slumped down as I needed to catch my breathe. I'd been running from Avalanche for about an hour now, and it seems like I'm finally in the clear. My eyes suddenly seemed heavy, and that's when I looked down to my leg and saw it. A tranquilliser dart placed firmly in my left leg.

"Great." I slurred as I slowly drifted out of consciousness, before lightly touching my pocket to make sure I still has the cube my Mother left me. I found it inside Avalanches archive room when I was looking for the way out, I read my file, it was brief and had a lot of black lines over it, but it mentioned my parents and had a cube made of rock inside. I started to dream of what life could now finally be like, on the upside of the world.

The End Of Chapter 1
