"Correct me if I'm wrong, but when we were in there," Balthazar says to break the silence that's settled over them as he combs black sludge from Castiel's feathers, "was that you who was snuggled in beside me?"

"It was," Castiel says, quiet and guilty in a way he must have learned after Balthazar died and that really doesn't suit him, "and I'm sorry if I shouldn't have, but I couldn't think of where else to go, and I didn't want to sleep forever alone."

Balthazar sighs, and before he can think better of it, leans forward to press a kiss to the center of Castiel's bared back before saying, "as if I could ever hold anything against you."
