The following takes place between 7 am and 8 am. Events occur in real time.

Jamal's ears were still ringing from the explosion. He had made it up the stairs in time, he was alive, but he feared that Eric Carter was dead. Jamal called 911 on the house phone. He couldn't even hear the operator on the other end, he tried to scream that there had been an explosion, Jamal wasn't even sure if he was getting the words out. Within seconds the police and ambulances were here, most likely some neighbor had already called 911. The paramedics began treating Jamal as he pointed towards the basement. He tried to find out if Eric was alive, but he couldn't hear what was being said. All he was certain of was the paramedics were working on someone.

At CTU George Mason is on the phone, learning of the explosion. He relays this information to the rest of the staff.

Mason: The man that we Eric Carter was meeting with set off an explosion. The suspect is dead and Eric Carter was seriously wounded. It's too early to tell if Eric will survive or not. I know it might be difficult to put this out of our minds but right now we don't have a choice. We have to find reverend Adam and the others involved in this plot, or a lot more innocent people will die today. Let's get back to work.

After Mason's little pep talk Ryan Chapelle confronted him.

Chapelle: How did Kalil know that Eric Carter was CTU?
Mason: I don't think he did. He was paranoid, a new guy who comes offering to help on today of all days. It was a risk we had to take.
Chapelle: A risk you had to take.
Mason: I should get back to work.

Mason then calls Chloe and lets her know what happened to Jamal. She then agrees to let him speak with Jack. Jack is surprised by Mason's call, but apparently Chloe trusts him enough to put him through.

Jack: What is it George?
Mason: You know that Jamal was helping us find the terrorists right?
Jack: I know. Did something happen?
Mason: Yes. The source tried to blow them all up. Jamal survived. The doctors are treating him now, it looks like he's going to be okay.
Jack: He could have died, my son could have died. How did this source know?
Mason: He was just being paranoid. I know you suspect me of being a mole Jack but I'm being set up. Chloe is helping me.
Jack: She's looking for evidence, she'll follow it wherever it leads.
Mason: If you and Tony come in you can help look for evidence.
Jack: I still don't trust you George. Anything happens to Jamal, or anyone else that I care about, I will kill the person responsible.

Jack hung up. As angry as he was, he knew it might be his own fault what happened. If he and Tony hadn't tried to tail Kalil, maybe he wouldn't have been so suspicious. Maybe it was his fault that Jamal almost died.
