At a train station,
"I hate you have to go back home, Shen." Yoshi said as he and the others were wishing her goodbye. Shen smiled. "Do not worry, I will be back for the Spring Festival. Right, Grandmother?"
Amaya smiled. "That is right, dear." Fu Sheng I made a displease sound as he started moving his bags in the train. "Come along, Shen, we must go!" Shen nodded and gave all her friends a hug before she followed her grandparents into the train.
She and her grandmother sighed as they sat down. "Well, that was...a nice visit." Fu Sheng I shook his head. "If I had known there were dirty criminals targeting the Hamato family, I would have never allowed you to go out that night, Shen."
Shen rolled her eyes. "Grandfather, please."
"Shen, I do not want you wondering off at night unprotected anymore." Fu said sternly. "You are being ridiculous!" Shen protested. "Wanting to protect my granddaughter is being ridiculous?"
"You can not protect me from everything forever."
"I can try!"
"Both of you, enough!" Amaya scolded and Fu and Shen fell silent. Amaya sighed. "Fu, I understand that you are worried, so was I but Shen is right, we can not deny her of her freedom because of one incident. We must trust her."
"I did not say I did not trust her. It is the people out there I do not trust." Fu said honestly. "Fu, there are always going to be bad people everywhere and we can not control that." Amaya reasons. "How about this, if Shen is out at night, she has to find a phone every hour and call us to make sure she is alright. Does that sound fair?"
Fu still looked unsure but considered it, glancing between his wife and Shen. After a long minute, he sighed in defeat. "Alright but every hour and if she fails to call, then she will no longer be allowed out after sundown."
"Does that sound fair Shen?" Amaya asked. Honestly, Shen did not know why she bothers because she knows very well that the decision is not up to her. To be expected to call every hour still seemed a little silly to Shen, especially when she already has a strict curfew, but it was not impossible, and it did help with her grandparents' worry. Therefore, she could not argue. "Yes."
"Good." Amaya said with a smile, happy she was able to come up with a compromise. Meanwhile, someone from the back of the train was watching and listening to them, making sure they were not known.
...
Back in the restaurant,
As soon as they arrived back home, they were open for business. Fu and Amaya worked in the kitchen while Shen was taking orders like normal, until she spotted a new customer. The woman had gray hair she wore in a high ponytail, blue eyes, and she wore a green kimono. Shen smiled and went to her. "Hello, may I take your order?"
"Yes, I would like a cup of tea, if you please?" The woman said, only looking at the menu. "What kind of tea?" Shen asked. "Suprise me." Looking a little aback, Shen wrote down what tea she thought was best then smiled. "Is there anything else?"
"No. Thank you, Tang Shen." The woman stressed the name a little, as if testing it out and Shen froze, staring at her wide eyed. "How...How do you know my name?" The woman grinned. "I knew it was you. You look just like Ren."
"My mother? Were you a friend of her's?" Shen asked, a bit eager and anxious and the woman chuckled. "Not exactly but I have worked with her a few times. She was most respected in her clan."
"Really?"
The woman titled her head, a slight displeased scowl on her face. "Has your grandfather really never told you?" Before Shen could answer or question the woman further, Fu came out. "Shen, what is-"
"Fu Sheng I." The woman greeted and Fu froze, his jaw falling slightly open. "C-Chikara!"
The woman, Chikara, stood up tall and narrowed her eyes at him. "It is good to see you again, Fu, we have much to discuss."
"Grandfather, how do you know this woman? Who is she?" Shen asked but Fu did not look at her. "Shen, go to your room."
"But-"
"Now!"
Though confused, Shen obeyed and went to her room just as her grandmother came out with a frown on her face. "Chikara, what is this about?"
"May I come inside?" Chikara asked. Fu and Amaya glanced at each other than nodded and led her inside.
...
Shen could not resist her curiosity of this woman who knows her mother. So, she carefully hid on the staircase and watched as her grandparents sat with the woman at the table. "Alright, we are alone. Now tell us what you want?" Fu demanded slightly.
"The Tribunal has been concerned about you and your family, Fu Sheng I. They wish to know what is your plan to rebuild the Lotus Clan." Fu narrowed his eyes. "As I told you, Chung I is alive, and he is training to be strong enough to rebuild the Lotus Clan and lead it."
"Why wait until he is ready?" Chikara asked. "You are Chang I's younger brother. You could rebuild the Lotus Clan and give it to Chung I when he is ready." Fu frowned. "No. That will not happen."
"Why not?"
"I did my time as a shinobi, Chikara. I fought and worked hard to earn my place as a respected member. Now, all I wish to do is rest here with my family." Fu said plain and simple. Chikara gave him a flat look. "It seems normal life has changed you. Back in the day, you would not hesitate to fight and help your clan."
"There are more important things than the clan." Chikara scoffed. "As I see it, you are trying to erase it. Erase shinobi kind, erase the shinobi warrior in you."
"And how do you figure that? Because I do not wish to go back to China and rebuild the clan now?"
"No. Because of your granddaughter." Fu and Amaya looked aback but allowed Chikara to continued. "When I spoke to her earlier, she knew nothing of Ren or the things she has done in our clan. I can also tell that you have not trained her or taught her one thing of the shinobi way, have you?"
On the stairs, Tang Shen frowned as her grandfather let out a low growl. "How I raise my granddaughter is none of your concern."
"Oh, but it is. She is the bloodline of Chang I as well and if anything happened to Chung I, we would need a new heir. Tang Shen should be our second choice, but with zero training and zero experience the Tribunal will never take her in."
"I do not want them to! Tang Shen, is going to grow to have a safe and normal life!" Fu shouted as millions of thoughts and questions ran through Shen's mind. "And if something happens to your nephew?" Chikara challenged.
"Then I guess you will have to figure it out, but I have faith Chung I will be the next Head. He is a strong and smart boy. I am sorry, Chikara but no one in this house, will participate in rebuilding the Lotus Clan."
Chikara exhaled. "I do not understand you! Your family comes from a long line of strong and fierce Shinobis. Why would you end it?"
"Chikara...you speak this way because you have nothing to lose. No family. No home. No friends. Just your life which we are all trained to give up in a heartbeat to save someone else. But I, have more to lose than just my life. I already lost so much, my daughter, my brother, my son-in-law, my clan, and my friends. All I have now is my son-in-law's restaurant, my wife and my granddaughter. I am not willing to lose any of those things, not for the clan, not for anything. Besides, in my opinion, I do not believe ninjas have any more place in this world. Let us face it, the time of ninjas is slowly dying. No one needs us anymore. There is no more Foot or any other threat that needs ninjas."
"How could you say that? If you believe in such things than you should be trying to save ninja kind!"
"No. I am going to embrace it and live the rest of my life peacefully with my family."
"Would Ren have agreed to this?"
"Do not speak of my daughter." Fu warned. Chikara met Fu's fierce gaze before closing her eyes and standing up, turning to leave. "She would have been disappointed in you." Chikara spat before vanishing.
"You're wrong..." Fu muttered to himself.
"What is the Tribunal?" Fu jumped and turned around to see Shen standing behind him. "Shen, were you listening?!" He scolded.
"Yes, now, please, answer my question."
"The Tribunal is a ninja clan council." Amaya answered. "They basically, make sure all is well between clans."
Shen was silent for a moment then she looked at her grandfather. "I want to know more about them. The Tribunal, the Clan...and my parents." Fu sighed. "You are not ready, Shen."
"How am I not?" Shen asked, scowling angrily. "I have been patiently waiting for you to tell me about them, but I can't anymore! I have a right to know of my parents! How did they die?! What happened?!"
"They were killed." Fu said and tried to leave but Shen would not let him. "That does not answer my question!" She noted with a glare. "I do not understand why you would even want to know!" Fu snapped.
"Wouldn't you?!"
"This is not up to debate, Shen! This conversation is over!" Shen glared hard. "Grandfather, I want answers and if you will not tell me yourself, then I will find Chikara and ask her!"
"YOU WILL DO NO SUCH THING!!" Fu shouted. "You can not stop me!" Shen yelled back then ran upstairs, slamming her door and locking it. Fu grumbled angrily but paused when he saw Amaya giving him a scolding look. "What?!"
"She is right, and you know it." Amaya said curtly. "Amaya-"
"What are you so afraid of, Fu?" Amaya asked. "She is old enough now to understand and you and I both know she will not stop until she gets the answers she wants. She should be able to get them from you and no one else."
"I am only trying to protect her!" Fu argued. "By pushing her away?!" Amaya cried. Fu's mouth snapped shut at that. "I know you do not want to lose her, Fu but you will anyway, if you keep her in the dark. It is time to tell her the truth."
Fu knew she was right but still...he was scared the truth would destroy Shen. Change her. Fu was not ready to see his happy go lucky girl, change, knowing how cruel the world could be. He wanted to protect her from all dangerous, but he knows that he can not. He just prays and hopes, Shen will be strong enough against it.
He sighed deeply and looked to his wife. "Send her down." Amaya smiled and went upstairs to get Shen.
...
With her hands folded on her lap, Shen sat at the table across from her grandparents, waiting for them to tell the story of her parents. Fu glanced at Amaya who gave an encourage nod then at Shen. "It was a few months after you were born..."
...
In China,
Fu was holding his granddaughter above his head, laughing as she giggled at him with that bright smile of her's when a woman, with dark brown hair she wore in a bun, gold eyes, and light skin came in. She wore a purple dress and a necklace. She chuckled at them. "Baba, if you keep that up, I am never going to be able to put her down for her nap."
"Oh, Ren, no need to lecture me. Do not forget that I was the one who raised you."
"You did that alone, Husband?" Amaya who was washing the dishes asked with a smile and Fu smiled sheepishly. "Of course not, my love." He then turned back to his daughter. "Anyway, I just want to spend as much time as I can with Shen before you leave us."
The woman, Tang Ren rolled her eyes. "Baba, I am not leaving you. Lee and I just want to take a trip for a while, explore the world a little."
A man with light brown hair, pale skin, and brown eyes then came in. He wore a white button shirt, black glasses and blue jeans. "Do not worry, Mr. Tang, I will have Ren home before you know it."
"You better. I am trusting you with my daughter and granddaughter, Lee, do not make me regret it." Fu said with a stern stare. Ren have her father a flick on the cheek and a slight glare as punishment for his overprotectiveness. Amaya smiled and took Shen. "We should go now."
Ren nodded. "Yes, Uncle has been wanting to see us for a while." Fu sighed. "Let us go see my brother than."
...
At the temple,
A tall, bald Chinese man with a small white beard, tan skin and gold eyes frowned at the man sitting before him. He wore a brown kimono. His wife sat next to him, looking nervous. She had gray hair she wore in an elegant bun, ember eyes, and tan skin. She wore a yellow kimono.
The man kneeling before them, had his head down and wore a black cloak as he slowly sipped the tea that was offered to him. "Ancient one, I have come asking for your help."
The Ancient one aka Chang I, narrowed his eyes. "Help for what?"
The man paused. "Hamato Yuuta has destroyed my clan, killed my brother and I want revenge. I have a few mercenaries, but I need more. I heard that your clan holds special gifts, and I believe they can be useful for my cause, you of course, will be repaid as well."
"Chang I?" His wife called in a hushed voice. Chang I turned to her and smiled. "Go, my love, I will handle this." His wife gave a simple nod and cautiously left the room. When she left, Chang I turned back to the man. "You do know that the Lotus and the Hamato clan are allies, yes?"
"I am aware. As a child, my father forced my brother and I to study everything we needed to know about your clans." Chang I hummed. "Then I suppose you know what the Lotus Clan stands for?"
When the man said nothing, Chang I continued. "Our clan stands for purity, spirituality, and enlightenment. We do not participate in petty battles or wars, especially against our allies. Whatever grudge you carry with the Hamato Clan, has nothing to do with the Lotus Clan. I would like to ask you to leave, we are done here."
The man looked down at his cup. "That wife of yours, you love her very much..." Chang I scowled but stood silent as the man continued. "I also hear you have a son now...it would be a shame if something where to happen to them."
Chang I narrowed his eyes. "Are you threatening me?"
The man sipped his tea again before answering. "More of a promise. I also know you have a brother and a niece. You know, when I fight Yuuta, I plan to take away his family one by one before killing him completely. I would hate to do the same to you, Ancient one since you have done nothing other than be allies with that dishonorable clan but if you are not with me, then you are against me which means I can not let you nor your family live..."
"I will not be feared in allying with you. My last statement still stands. You and I will not fight together against the Hamato Clan...Oroku Nagi."
The man, Oroku Nagi sighed. "...So be it..."
...
Ren and her family were on their way to the temple when Ren suddenly halted and let out a sharp gasp. "Ren, what is wrong?" Lee asked concerned. Ren had fear all over her face and she took a shaky breath. "Something is wrong."
Suddenly, ninjas dropped from out of no where and surrounded the family. "Who are they?!" Amaya wailed as Fu pushed her behind him. "Who are you?!" He demanded but they did not answer, they just drew their swords. Fu's eyes widened. "Run."
They did not need to be told twice, the family all ran back, screams and fighting starting to fill their ears. They manage the lose the ninjas before they ran back into their home. Fu slammed the door shut and locked it.
"We are being attacked." Fu stated. "By who?!" Amaya asked and Fu shook his head. "I do not know but I must check on my brother!"
"Fu, no, it is dangerous!" Amaya pleaded but Fu looked her firmly in the eyes. "I have to go." With that Fu left. Ren meanwhile, was putting Shen in her crib and grabbing her sword. Lee gasped. "Ren, what are you doing?!"
"I can not just stand by while my clan could be in danger!" Ren tried to leave but Lee held her back. "Ren, please, do not go. Just stay. I am sure your father and uncle have everything handled."
Ren frowned and cupped his cheek. "Lee, the clan needs all the help it can get. They are my family, just as you. You can not ask me to abandon them." Lee knew that was true, that nothing he could say would ever make Ren not help her clan, so he nodded. "Be safe."
Ren smiled and went to say her goodbyes to her daughter before running out. Lee frowned as she watch her go and Amaya looked at him. "Fu used to do the same to me every time but he always made it back home. Try not to worry, dear." Lee nodded then cleared his throat. "We should probably barricade the windows and doors."
Amaya nodded. "Good idea."
...
Chang I was fighting his damn hardness to protect his family and his clan from Oroku Nagi. As Oroku Nagi kept trying to slice him with his word, Chang I kept disappearing and reappearing. Nagi growled at this. "You can not use your tricks forever, Chang I! I know you lose energy after a while, and I also know that old age has weakened your abilities!"
Just when he said that he was able to elbow Chang I who tried to sneak up on him from behind and throw him over his shoulder. Chang I set up and glared at him. "Why are you doing this? What purpose will destroying my clan and the Hamato clan bring?! It will not bring back what you have lost!" Nagi chuckled. "Words of a man who knows he is doomed. You should have just accepted my offer, now-" He took hold of one of the lanterns on the wall. "You will lose everything!" He threw it to the ground and fire immediately set on the carpet. He grabbed a bottle of alcohol that was on a nearby table and threw it at it, making the fire bigger.
Chang I got up and ran to get his family, but he did not get the chance to warn them of the fire, when Oroku Nagi stabbed him from behind. "You should never turn your back on your enemy." He let Chang I fall and just then, his wife came back. "Chang I!" She screamed in horror before Nagi killed her. Chang I gasped and reached a weak hand. "N-No!" Nagi turned to him. "Now, your son."
Nagi left the room and Chang I, in a weak attempt, tried to crawl after him to protect his son but then he heard- "Wahh! Waaah!" Chang I looked over to see his son, being carried by one of his soldiers. The solider looked at Chang I for a moment, giving a single nod, sending him a quiet promise before he ran out with his son through the flames. Chang I smiled, happy that his son was safe then accept his fate and took his last breath.
...
Fu was in the temple, looking all over for his brother, covering his mouth to protect his lungs from the thick smoke when he saw Chang I dead on the ground, along with his wife. "CHANG I!" He shouted and ran to him, checking him over, hoping to find a plus but alas there was none. Fu did not even have time to process when he heard- "FIND THE REST OF HIS FAMILY, NOW!" A voice shouted and Fu immediately hid to see a man walking out with soliders. "I want Chang I's family all dead and that is an order!" Fu gasped and quietly ran out, to find his family before that mad man does.
...
Ren was running towards the temple at fast speed, helping assist one of her clan members on the way. She made it to the steps and was about to run up but then she saw something in the sky. She looked up, squinting her eyes only for them to widened when she realized it was a man, jumping from the tall temple. He landed on the ground and Ren hid before he could see her.
A solider ran up to him. "Master Nagi, we think they are in the bamboo forest!"
"Good! Find them!"
"But Master Nagi, their leader is already dead, why must we-"
"Idiot!" Nagi shouted. "Destroying Hamato Yuuta's allies will help in our upbringing! I want them all dead so find them, now!" The solider nodded and ran into the forest. Ren's eyes widened. "Shen...Lee." Ren looked back at the temple then at the way Nagi went and quickly followed them.
...
Lee was watching through the window as people ran for their lives when Amaya was suddenly walking towards the door. "Wait! Where are you going?!"
"There are ancient artifacts in our shed! If the enemy get their hands on it, who knows what could happen. I must receive them."
"No! Amaya, let me get them!"
"No. It is not safe for you. Just stay here with Shen, I will not be gone long!" Before Lee could protest further, Amaya ran out the door and Lee's stomach hurt with worry. He looked at his daughter and sighed. "At least you can not go anywhere."
...
Later,
"There!" The solider yelled, pointing at a small house where Lee and Shen stayed. Nagi was just about to go over there when Ren jumped out of the trees on top of the solider, knocking him out then jumping back in the air and landing gracefully on the ground. She glared at Nagi fiercely. "Stay away from my family!"
Nagi grinned cruelly. "Lotus Blossom, I presumed? My, you are just as the stories said you were, but I am afraid, you will not stop me. Your family will fall."
"It is you who will fall!" Ren shouted then started to attack Nagi. Ren was attacking with all of her strength, trying desperately to keep him away from her family. Nagi was stronger though and manage to break her sword.
Ren only threw it away and clap her hands together. "Let me show you the true power of a shinobi!" With that, yellow energy filled Ren's hands and she threw it at Nagi, and he was barely able to dodge. He turned back to Ren, only to see her gone. Nagi whipped all around, trying to locate her then he sensed someone behind him, and he turned just in time for Ren to jump on top of him and hold a knife to his neck.
Nagi, grinned, however. "You won't do it." Ren seethed and was about to stab him, but Nagi somehow threw her off of him and pinned her to the ground. "You fought well, Ren but now..." He held up his blades. "You die."
Inside the house, Lee was pacing back and forth when he heard an unexpected scream, his wife's scream. "REN!" On instinct Lee ran out of the house and to his horror, he saw Ren dead with a man standing over her. Lee gasped when he turned to him and ran back inside, locking the door.
Lee then grabbed his daughter, frantically looking around for a place to hide her as Nagi was pounding on the door. As he backed away from it, he heard a little squeak on the floorboard and looked down. An idea struck him. Moving fast, Lee ripped off the floorboard and put his daughter inside. She let out a little whimper. "Shhh, stay silent, Shen. Everything is going to be ok."
Shen settled, hearing her father's voice and Lee gave her one last smile before sealing her away. Just then, Nagi barged in, and Lee whipped around to face him, trembling in pure fear.Nagi looked him up and down. "You are not a Shinobi, are you?"
Lee gulped, unable to speak. Nagi moved forward and Lee, unconsciously took a few steps back away from him. Nagi chuckled evilly. "She was your wife, wasn't she? How pitiful, that a woman like that, married such a weak, pathetic excuse for a man like you!" Lee wanted to say something that time, but Nagi had him pinned to the wall, in a blink of an eye before he could. "Tell me where the rest of the family is, and I will spare you. If you do not, then I will kill you."
Though terrified, nothing would ever make Lee betray his family or risk the safety of his daughter. So, he stood silent and turned his head away from Nagi who looked surprised by the action. "It seems you are more man than I thought you were...what a shame." Nagi then stabbed Lee then released him, letting him fall and bleed on the floor.
Nagi looked around the house one last time then walked out with his soldiers running up to them. "They are all dead, Master."
"Any sign of Chang I's brother?"
"No, Master. Should we look for him?"Nagi thought about it. "No. I believe we send a clear enough message."
"And what message is that Master?" The soldier asked as Nagi began to leave. "That anyone who dares choose to have their loyalties with the Hamato Clan, will face the wrath of the Foot Clan." With his final declare, Nagi left the Lotus Clan, along with his followers and that is when Fu showed up.
He was huffing and puffing, looking all around for his family but he paused when he saw his daughter on the ground. "...no...nononoNO!!!" He dropped to his knees, next to his daughter and pulled her in his arms. "Ren?!" He moved her hair out of her face and shook her. "Ren, please! Don't do this! Stay with me, please! REN!"
No response. No sound, no movement, no pump of a heartbeat. Tang Ren was dead. Fu shakily cried and pulled his daughter, closer to his chest. "Waah!" Fu gasped and turned his head to the house. "Shen?"
Fu forced himself to let go of Ren and he went inside the house, finding Lee dead as well. "Oh...Lee..."
"Waah!" Fu followed the sound of the crying and found that it was coming from the floor. He removed the floorboard and looked to see Shen, crying her eyes out. He realized that Lee must had hid her here. With trembling hands, Fu reached down and took Shen in his arms, holding her close. He then realized that he had not seen his wife yet. Where-
"NO!" A shrilled voice screamed, and Fu hurried out to see Amaya collapsed next to her daughter, bawling and screaming like she was in agony. She crawled to Ren and held her the same way Fu had seconds ago, shaking her desperately. "REN! Ren, please, please, no! Ren, please! Open your eyes!"
Tears pouring, Fu kneeled by her side and put a comforting hand on her back. "We must go." He whispered but Amaya shook her head. "No."
"Amaya-"
"No, I am not leaving her!" Amaya continued to protest. Fu reached out with his free hand and spun her to face him. "Ren is dead!" He said harshly, as more tears fell from his and Amaya's eyes. He then took a deep breath to collect himself. "But Shen is not."
Amaya looked down to see Shen curled up in Fu's other arm. "We have to protect her now."
"W-Where is Lee? And Chang and his family?" Amaya asked shakily. Fu squeezed his eyes shut. "Chang and his family are dead. Lee died protecting Shen. Protecting us." Amaya gasped and shook her head. "They are all...gone...?"
"We are all Shen has now. She needs us." Fu stood up and held out his hand to his wife. "We are no longer safe here. The Clan and everything is gone. We are all that is left."
Amaya looked back at Ren, her body shaking. "Please, Amaya, I need you to be strong. I can not raise Shen without you." Fu pleaded. Amaya eyes stayed lock on Ren a while longer then she reaches to her, grabbing her necklace, "Your father and I will protect her, Ren...I promise. You and Lee can rest easy." She whispered before finally taking Fu's hand. "Where will we go?"
"Lee never sold his restaurant in Fukuoka, perhaps we could go there."
"But how can we get there undetected?" Amaya asked. "The Hamato Clan might help us."
...
Back in the present,
"The Foot killed my parents and the whole clan?" Shen said in a soft tone. "They both died...protecting me..." Fu looked at his granddaughter sternly, knowing what she was thinking. "Shen, what happened to your parents was not because of you. Do not dare blame yourself. It was Oroku Nagi who killed them."
"Your grandfather is right, dear. If your parents had not protected you, well then...your grandfather and I would have nothing left to live for." Amaya said with a soft smile then gave her a little box. "Here. This should be yours."
Shen glanced at her before slowly opening the box, gasping at what she saw inside. It was a small, beautiful pendant on a brown leather necklace. The charm was a silver Lotus flower. "I bought that for your mother on the day she was born. We named her Ren after the clan as you can guess. We used to call her the flower of our clan which is why many called her Lotus Blossom. She was our little flower and so are you, Shen." Amaya said, smiling sadly.
"It's beautiful..." Shen awed. Fu stood and took the necklace, smiling wistfully. "May I?" Shen nodded and moved her hair so Fu could put the necklace securely on her neck. Once done, he put his hand under Shen's chin and smiled. "Perfect."
Shen smiled back, looking at the necklace then at her grandparents. "Can you tell me more? Like, am I anything like my parents?" Amaya grinned. "Yes, you have Lee's curious mind, and you always speak so polite, just as he did."
"But you defiantly are more of your mother's daughter." Fu said with a loving smile. "You are bold, adventures, free-spirited and fierce, just as she was." He then moved hair out of her face. "And you also, inherited her beauty."
Shen blushed and smiled at that. "Can you tell me stories again? But...happier ones?" Both grandparents smiled. "Of course, but for now, I think it is passing time you get to bed." Fu said. Shen nodded and got up to leave but stopped to hug her grandfather. "Thank you for finally telling me. I am sorry for all you and grandmother had to go through."
Fu smiled warmly and hugged her back. "No need to apologize..." They held each other for a while longer, Amaya smiling at the sight before Shen finally left to head to bed. Fu sighed and huffed. "You know, she gets that from you."
Amaya looked at him confused. "What?"
"Her kindness. I believe she learned that from you. Not Lee." Amaya eyes and face became warm at that. "And I believe she learned how to be confident and brave from you." Fu mirrored her expression and sighed. "Ren would be proud of us, right?"
"Yes, very proud. She and Lee both. They all would be proud."
