Chapter 16-The assassin
Roan's P.O.V
Roan Kom Azgeda sat in a cave eating. He looked up when he heard footsteps. "Who's there?" Roan asks as he stands up and grabs the hilt of his sword. A woman enters the cave. "You're the assassin I have been hearing so much about," Roan says. "Did my mother sent you here to kill me?"
"Yes she did," The woman says.
"Of course she did. What name do you have now? You don't have the same name you did before, my mother wouldn't allow that. So what is it?" Roan asks as he removes his sword.
"I am no one, just your mother's puppet," She says. Roan nods as the woman removes her sword and swings it at Roan who quickly hits the sword away and jabs his sword at her midsection. She moves backwards and charges Roan. Roan dodges two of her swings and punches her in the face making her stumble back. He then kicks her in the chest knocking her to the ground. He steps on her hand as she grips her sword. He presses his sword up to her neck.
"You are still someone," Roan says. "It's time for you to go home."
"You can't take me there," She growls. "She can't see me."
"It's time to go home. Maybe if I deliver you to the Commander, she'll lift my banishment and I can take my place on that throne," Roan says before he kicks the woman in the face. "My mother will die for keeping you alive."
Clarke's P.O.V
Clarke sat on the couch in her room. Lexa sat across from her reading Titus's journal. "Anything?" Clarke asks Lexa who shakes her head as she throws it on the ground.
"He doesn't know who the assassin is. He is the one who hired the man who tried to kill you though," Lexa says.
"Good to know," Clarke says. "So what's our next move?"
"We don't know where the assassin went. We won't until another body shows up," Lexa tells her. "But I can't leave Polis until the rider finds Gaia and brings her here. Polis has to have a flamekeeper here while I'm gone. You can go back to the village and wait for me if you wish."
"I already told you. I'm not going anywhere," Clarke says as she takes Lexa's hand.
"You are very stubborn," Lexa says.
"I know, you'll grow to hate that about me," Clarke says with a smirk. "We don't know who this assassin is, but we could find out who they work for."
"How?" Lexa asks.
"They would have had to be let in the tower to kill Titus, the guards wouldn't have let them past and they didn't climb the side, which means they were let in. Probably by one of the ambassadors," Clarke says.
"We'll talk with the Azgeda ambassador first then," Lexa says and Clarke nods as they leave the room.
Roan's P.O.V
Roan stops his horse by a river and climbs off. He grabs the woman off and sets her down. "You should just kill me," She says.
"I can't," Roan says. "I need you alive. You probably wish you were dead. After everything you've been through," Roan says.
"I am dead," She says. "I am a shell, who only does your mother's biding."
"Just like Ontari," Roan says. "But she hates it, you don't seem to care."
"When the pain becomes so bad, you would do anything to make it stop," She tells Roan. "You got lucky, she got rid of you."
"She got rid of you too, at least that is what everybody thinks," Roan says. "You're dead in their mind."
"Then just kill me and burn my body, let them remember how I was, not as this monster," She pleads. "Please, Roan."
Roan takes a drink of water and then walks up to her and bends down. "Someday you will thank me for this."
"Probably not."
"We'll see," Roan says as he picks her back up and puts her on the horse. "We'll be at Polis by the end of the day."
Jaha's P.O.V
Jaha stood in the control room with Charles Pike. "Why have you asked me here, sir?" Pike asks him.
"I thought I could trust Kane, Charles. I've known the man my whole life but I was wrong," Jaha says as he looks at the other man. "Can I trust you, Charles?"
"Of course, sir," Pike says.
"Good, cause I'm going to need you to trust me. In five months we are sending the prisoners in the skybox to the ground. I plan on being on that ship with as many guards as possible and I am going to kill Marcus and Jake, but right now I need a new Vice Chancellor. I believe that should be you. If you want it of course," Jaha offers.
"It would be an honor," Pike says.
"Good. Find me a new Commander for the guard and then have him round up every able body to be trained," Jaha tells Pike who nods as he walks towards the door. "Charles," Pike looks at him. "If you betray me, you will regret it. I promise you that," Pike nods as he leaves.
Charlotte's P.O.V
Charlotte and Claire sit down as they begin to eat their lunch. "This tastes like shit," Claire says.
"You get used to it after a couple of days," Charlotte says. "Can I ask you something."
"Sure, kid," Claire says.
"Who did you kill?"
"My stepdad," Claire says. "He was hitting my Mom and I snapped, and I stabbed him in the neck. I was protecting my mother, but the guard didn't see it that way. They liked him a lot, he was there hook up for moonshine and shit and he was good friends with Shumway, so they claimed it was murder and threw me in this shit hole," Claire says. Charlotte nods as Atom walks over to them.
"You ladies mind if I sit down?" Atom asks.
"Go for it," Claire says, and Atom sits down. "I'm surprised you're not with spacewalker," Claire says as she looks at Finn Collins.
"He's an asshole, especially sense his girlfriend went to Earth," Atom says. "Jaha did a good job at hiding that."
"Well you can sit with us, we're fun," Charlotte says with a smile.
"We're not," Claire says flatly and Atom chuckles as they eat.
Raven's P.O.V
Raven sat in her workshop. She looked at the door as it opened and Sinclair walked in. "Not bad," Sinclair says. "We haven't even been here a whole day and you're already hiding from us."
"I have to work. I keep this place running Sinclair. They would be lost without me," Raven says with a smirk.
"I'm sure," Sinclair says as he sits down. "You look happy."
"I am, I'm very happy. I'm also very glad you're down here."
"As am I Reyes, though I might have to give Luna a talking to."
"You won't speak to her," Raven says. "There is nothing going on."
"Not yet," Sinclair says softly. "You need some help?"
"Sure," Raven says. "Just remember, I'm in in charge her."
"Yes Ma'am," Sinclair says.
Bellamy's P.O.V
Bellamy stood by the training ring watching Octavia and Lincoln as they trained. "They are good," Kane says as he walks up to him.
"They've been practicing for seven months. Lincoln longer," Bellamy says. "We're going to be learning how to fight like this,"
"I imagine, we're going to be covered in bruises," Kane says as Octavia puts her sword away and walked over to them.
"Did I impress you?" Octavia asks.
"Yes, how long have you been training?"
"Six months," Octavia says. "We didn't know about the grounders for the first month."
"How long did you live with them?" Bellamy asks.
"Six months," Octavia says. "Don't worry, you'll be fighting like us before Jaha gets down here, but be prepared, you are going to be sore for the first few weeks."
The two men nod as Jake walks over to them. "You hear anything from the Commander?" Kane asks Jake who shakes his head.
"We probably won't hear for her for a couple of days," Jake says. "The death of the flamekeeper is a big deal. She'll have to find a new flamekeeper and find the assassin who killed him."
"So what do we do until they get back?" Bellamy asks.
"Tomorrow, we'll start training," Jake tells Kane who nods as he walks away.
Abby's P.O.V
Abby sat at the table inside Jake's house. She looks at the door as there was a knock. "Come in," Abby says. Aurora walks in and walks up to her.
"Everybody is exploring the village and you're sitting in here by yourself," Aurora says as she sits down. "What's wrong?"
"He hates me," Abby tells her. "He's trying to hide it but he hates me Aurora. I sent my husband and daughter down here and they've had to kill. Everything that happened to them, I started it when I told Jaha about Jake's plans."
"I can't say you're wrong, because that did start this. But now you have to try and fix it," Aurora says. "It won't be easy, cause you're right, Jake is angry with you and so is Clarke but you have to work for it."
"What should I do now?" Abby asks.
"You should come and eat with the rest of us," Aurora says as she stands up and Abby nods as she follows her.
Lexa's P.O.V
Lexa and Clarke stood in the throne room as the Azgeda ambassador came in. "You asked for me, Commander," He says.
"Yes, Wes I did," Lexa says. "You have heard about Titus's death."
"Yes, I have Commander. It is very unfortunate," Wes says. "Azgeda is here to help you catch the killer."
"Good, I found something in Titus's journal, he was working with Nia when Costia was taken. Azgeda has caused me problem after problem and it seems like Nia is always at the front of those problems," Lexa says as she walks closer to Wes. "I though the assassin was targeting Skaikru, but maybe I am wrong, the Desert clan ambassador was killed the day he made a deal with Clarke, the travelers were killed delivering supplies from Azgeda to other clans and those supplies have disappeared. Titus was killed. Maybe Nia wanted to make sure that her secrets never got out. Maybe her and Titus worked together to try and kill Jake, Octavia, Raven, and Clarke. Am I getting anywhere?"
"I…I don't know what you're talking about," Wes says as he takes a step back. Lexa grabs his throat and presses him up against the wall. He claws at her arms.
"Does this assassin belong to Nia?" Lexa growls. "Tell me or I will slit your throat."
"Yes," Wes says.
"Who is it?" Clarke asks.
Before Wes can answer the door is opened and a guard comes in. "Commander—"
"I am busy, leave."
"This is urgent. Roan Kom Azgeda is here, he has a prisoner, a woman who he claims is the assassin who killed Titus," The guard says. Lexa looks at the guard and let's Wes go. He falls to his deeps taking deep breathes.
"Bring them in," Lexa tells the guard who nods.
"Commander, you do not want to know this secret," Wes says.
"Shut up," Lexa says before she kicks him in the face knocking him out. Lexa walks to the front of the room with Clarke as the door opens and Roan comes in and pushes the woman forwards. There was a bag on her head. "Roan."
"Heda," Roan says. "This is your assassin, she tried to kill me, she works for my mother."
"We figured that out," Lexa says. "Why did you bring her here?"
"Because we both want the same thing, my mother dead. I'm also hoping that you'll lift my banishment for this generous gift," Roan says.
"If this is the assassin then yes, Roan I will remove your banishment. Put her on her knees and remove the hood," Lexa orders and Roan nods as he kicks the woman's legs and she falls to her knees. Roan removes the hood and the woman looks at Lexa. Her eyes widen as she stares at her in shock.
"Costia?"
Thanks for reading. The assassin is Costia, she was never killed in this story. Next chapter will explain how Nia was able to fool Lexa and will get more into what has happened to Costia. As always suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
