Leaving the Nest and War

The war was about to begin, and everyone had been assigned their stations. Shikamaru had just left discussing attack tactics with his father, which were shared with the rest of the alliance. Wanting a moment to himself, the Nara exited the tent and shoved his hands into his pockets, only to blink his eyes questioningly when he felt something hard and pulled it out.

"What the heck is this?" asked a puzzled Shikamaru, only to be startled when the charm, which oddly reminded him of a certain missing blonde, disappeared into a puff of smoke.

On guard, thinking it could be a surprise attack from the enemy, Shikamaru pulled out a kunai. Only for his eyes to widen and he later sighed once he got a good look.

"Naruko?"

"Hi, Shika-chan~!" The miniature clone cheerfully waved at him as this was Shikamaru's second time seeing this version of Naruko's Shadow Clone Technique.

"Are you the one Konohamaru called Na-chan last time?" Shikamaru shoved his hands into his pocket, suddenly itching for a cigarette.

"Naw! The Boss thought it was best if Na-chan guarded the village. I'm Ru! The one who enjoys kicking ass and taking names!" said the boisterous little chibi with a large grin on her face.

"So I assume your Boss already knew what the Kages had planned and planted you as a tactical backup plan?"

"Wow! No wonder the boss thinks so highly of you! As if something like that could fool the boss. She's not Konoha's Number 1 Orange Prank Mistress for nothing!" The chibi Ru proudly boasted about her boss before schooling her face into one of seriousness that got the Nara's undivided attention.

"Besides, the boss couldn't leave now even if she wanted to. She can't leave until she controls that old fur ball chakra. So until that time, it's up to me to hold down the fort until she gets here." Staring into her shimmering determined eyes, Shikamaru couldn't help but feel energized as he picked the chibi up and sat her on his shoulder.

"I knew it was a dumb plan trying to keep this a secret from you. Don't worry, we can handle ourselves until she gets here," said Shikamaru, meaning every word.

When Iruka stepped towards Naruko, those who granted the chunin permission to come aboard thought the woman would speak sense into Naruko. Iruka said nothing until Naruko saw the woman gracing her with an all-knowing smile.

"You already planned to leave this place, didn't you?"

This shocked the guards who were supposed to guard and watch over the nine-tails jinchūriki. A sheepish grin spread across Naruko's face as she admitted the truth.

"I already knew of the war and their plans. I only stayed until I had the fur ball chakra under control, and now I have. You know what I must do, Ruka-nee."

"I know, but before you leave, can you promise me one thing?" Making her way over to the girl, Iruka leaned forward so that her forehead was touching Naruko's. Staring into those determined blue orbs, Iruka realized that this was the girl she had taken in and raised.

The sad and lonely little girl mistreated by an entire village had grown up and blossomed into a beautiful, strong, and kind-hearted kunoichi. She no longer needed to hold Iruka's hand when she cried or needed someone to guide her.

"It's time for you to officially leave the nest, my little kitsune," Iruka softly murmured to Naruko, whose blue eyes widened as she realized the meaning those words signified.

Since Iruka first found her and took her into her home, Naruko's life derailed down an entirely new path. Because for the first time in her life, she finally understood the warmth and the protective nature of a person who loved and valued her.

"Thank-you, Ruka-nee," Naruko muttered softly before adding, "Don't worry. I'll bring Kakashi-sensei back to you."

The blonde teased her, and right before Iruka could scold her, Naruko had already disappeared into a cloud of smoke. Immediately, those assigned to keep Naruko on the island shouted at Iruka, outraged.

Popping the stiff joints of her neck, Iruka turned around and shut every last one of them up with a seething glare.

"If you have a problem with my decision, then come at me. But you weren't going to keep her here. One way or another, she was going to escape."

Once A was informed of Naruko and Bee's escape, he immediately started to vent his anger by blowing up at Tsunade. "Raikage, answer me this. How does one restrain the sun?" Faced with this question, A couldn't help but look at the Slug Princess as if she had just lost her mind.

"Such a foolish question. No one can restrain the sun-"

"Exactly! Those very same words go for Naruko as well. Nothing on this earth can restrain her once she sets her mind to something."

Kiba had just taken down one of the reincarnated ninjas that were brought back from the dead with the help of Akamaru when an orange blur brushed by his head, landing a kick on the white clone that was close to slicing Kiba's head off.

"Yo! Stay focused, dog-breath!" yelled the chibi clone, who, despite her small size, used it to her advantage to down zombie ninja after zombie ninja—jumping into the air, spinning her body like a cannonball, before diving back on a large group of reincarnated ninjas, holding a ball of swirling blue chakra.

"Rasengan!" The chibi, Ru, obliterated the group.

"Nice job, Ru!"

Kiba swirled his head around, only to see another clone, except this one had headphones on her head.

"How many chibi clones does Naruko have, and why are they here?!" exclaimed Kiba.

"Ah, Ru-chan? Ko-chan? Did Naru-chan send you here?" Hinata walked up beside Kiba, covered in bruises and cuts yet still breathing and ready to fight.

"Hi, Hina-chan! Yes, the boss sent us here until she arrived. To your left, Hina-chan!" called out Ko-chan, running on her feet as Hinata ducked down right in the nick of time as Ko-chan threw a sealing tag that attached itself to a reincarnated Kumo ninja.

"Chain Prison!" shouted Ko as chains sprung out from the seal tag and wrapped themselves around the ninja. "Explosion!" Ko made a hand sign, and Hinata and Kiba dodged before the chains exploded along with the captor. Landing on her feet, Ko-chan somehow got her hands on a mic as Kiba swore he heard some upbeat rap music coming from somewhere.

"I am the Best~! I am the Best~!" To Kiba's surprise and annoyance, the two chibis began doing a dance number before pointing a finger right at him, saying, "Th-th-the Best~!"

"So fucking annoying," the Inzuka grumbled under his breath.
