Chapter 2
A school for heroes
Will POV
This is intimidating.
I thought to myself as I stood in front of the towering Fortress which is now my new school.
The Heroes School was built by repurposing the Fortress which the players lived in before they disappeared. The Fortress is huge and majestic. It was like a fusion of Hogwarts and Gondor's Keep in LOTR. A pure white castle with a towering central tower that oversees the entire city in my opinion.
Standing on its grounds, I continued to gawk at the castle until someone grabbed me in a hug.
"Will! I'm so glad to see you" It was Dimitri, my only friend in this world.
"Dim, you… choking me" I struggled to speak up as she hugged me tightly while swaying side to side as if I was a stuffed toy.
I loved the girl as a friend but sometimes she forgot how vastly different the two of us are.
I was a Canadian short redhead. 5 ft and a slender build. I looked like a frail doll compared to her. Dimitri is a big girl. Standing over 5'5 ft tall, the African-American girl towered over me. Long curly dark hair and a perfectly dark skin tone. She cut a very intense but beautiful picture of a proud black American.
Not only that, she is also built like an Amazoness. Like she had very tight muscles all over her body which I accidentally found out when I saw her working out. She has bigger boobs than me, which are A cups. Hers are E if I'm not mistaken. Her body is also curvy and sexy even with her muscles. Her figure sometimes makes me jealous but all that jealousy will just fade away every time her very bright and bubbly attitude shows.
Our friendship started in a very strange situation. I was just waiting in line to get some food from the relief operation after the monster horde attack, Dimitri was behind me when she suddenly asked why I was so pale. I thought she was just rude at the start so I answered back to her why is black. She just stared at me for a while after that before bursting into laughter. I don't what made her laugh that day but she made sure to befriend after that.
We have been close friends since then.
"Oops, sorry short stack" Oh sweet air.
Gulping as much fresh air as possible I looked at the black girl dead in the eye.
"Why are you a mage?" I said to her with the driest tone I have.
"Hehehe, I don't know about that. "
Yes, by all accounts and lots of confirmation, this girl is a Mage class. Even though she is still a mage, her strength is undeniable. I shudder at the thought of her being a Warrior class. I can already hear my bones cracking at the mere idea.
" Oi, you're thinking something bad about me again. Hmm," she pouted. Shit, she must have noticed my involuntary shudder. I have to change subjects.
"Did you change your uniform?" I pointed out her Mage robes which are the same as the original but with a few alterations. Her robes are bigger compared to others to accommodate her height. The difference to the original is that hers has no sleeves and collar, both changes exposed a lot of skin and a small view of her cleavage. (Mage class default armor but with sleeves and collar cut out)
"Finally noticed, aren't you? " she posed multiple times in front of me, flaunting herself to me. " I had the sleeves and collar cut off because it's so stuffy and hot in this. How do you even deal with it?" she then pointed out my own Healer's robes.
" I don't know, I just deal with it?" I shrugged at her, not knowing how I deal with the heat in my robes myself.
Bzzt
All students please gather at the center grounds in front of the school. Thank you.
After that loud announcement via magical megaphone, we both immediately ran towards the area. Anyone who says that Dimitri carried me like a doll halfway after I had tripped over a rock is a liar and I will bite them.
Timeskip
We are now inside the campus grounds and in front of the Fortress. A huge crowd of students joined us as we waited in front of a huge stadium for something to happen.
"Hey Will, are you excited?" My friend leaned down to whisper to me with giddiness as she positioned herself behind me while hugging me. She must have looked like a parent holding her daughter from the other student's perspective.
For me, I just hoped Dimitri never realized that I was just using her bulk to shield me from the hot sun.
"Of course, I'm excited. We are entering a school that is basically Hogwarts in real life. " I whispered back to her.
She tried to say something but before she could get a word out. We all felt it.
!
A very huge pressure suddenly slammed into my shoulders, weighing me down. It was intense. I felt my knees buckle from the intense weight but Dimitri helped me up by leaning to each other to support each other. I looked at her with gratefulness but I noticed her just like me, she was also struggling. Her entire body shook in an effort to stay standing strong even while holding me up. I looked around to notice all the other students struggling to stand up. Some had already collapsed to the ground with no sign of consciousness.
I don't how long it happened but I made sure to lighten Dimitri's load as I tried to stand up for myself even with heavy pressure on my shoulders.
Luckily for us, the pressure was gone in an instant as an old man's voice echoed.
How disappointing.
What?
Timeskip
After that incident, the old man waited for all the other students to wake up from their sudden nap. Dimitri once tried to wake a nearby student but the old man's sharp gaze stopped that line immediately.
After 5 minutes of awkwardly waiting, all of the students are finally awake, confused but awake.
The old man then introduced himself as the headmaster of the school.
Headmaster Alan C. Grey
Age: 55
Class: Warrior
The headmaster's appearance is misleading. He was a short and pot-bellied old man. His hairline had already receded due to old age with only remaining hair on the sides of his head. He also had a small white mustache on his face, giving him a gentleman's look. He looked like your typical nice grampa on TV. But after what he just did earlier (which I don't know what it was), he had cemented in my mind that he is not someone to trifle with.
" You are all here gathered today for a great purpose. To learn how to use your newfound strength for our newfound home. I know some of you missed the old world but that's why you're all here. Maybe someday, one of you will find a way back. Only time can tell. "
The old man started his speech with somber, reminding us of our predicament of how we got here.
" But right now, you must all focus on the present time. "
"Currently, All of you are weak "
I can see some of the students look affronted by those words.
" That's why this school was created. This Fortress was left behind by the players who made this their home. Now it is repurposed into a school for our use."
OK, that fact was not in the brochure. All the students around were alarmed at the fact. The school had home players before they left. Is it even safe? Can we find something they left behind, like a treasure or weapon? Are we allowed to keep it?
Sensing our alarm, the headmaster waved his hand to quiet us. It was effective.
" I know it may look unsafe but I assure you, there is no harm that would come to you as long as I draw breath."
It happened again. That pressure came back but this time it felt subdued. It was like a silent anger.
" But the main reason we repurposed this Fortress is that it was created by the players for their comfort and training," he said with a huge wide grin on his face.
I don't like that look.
" This school is equipped with everything you need for the rest of your time here. Dorms, Dining hall, Library, Classrooms, and everything you can think of from our original world. But all of those pale in comparison to this school's crown jewel."
" The ARENA "
With great gusto, he gestured to the huge arena not far away from the main castle. It was a huge arena designed to look like those old gladiatorial arenas in Greek mythos.
" It may look like a typical old arena from our world but don't let it fool you, that arena is filled with magic."
Wait, what?
" The players used that arena as their practice grounds to train their more powerful powers. The arena is enchanted to take blows from powerful magic spells or physical attacks without damage. It also has enchantments where combatants in the arena do not take physical damage from any attacks, making it safe to practice live weapons and combat. The Golden Squad had tested it and deemed it as a perfect educational tool for all aspiring heroes. "
Wow, that's so cool. The Golden Squad is currently the most honored group in the division after their courageous defense at the monster attack incident last year. For them to recommend a player-made arena it must be a good and valuable structure.
" With that all in your minds, I'm giving you the entire day to familiarize yourselves with the school and for you to settle in your dorms. Just tell your name to the Dorm mother and she will give you a key to your room. Tomorrow is the start of this school year so have a fruitful day today students, Ciao"
With those last remarks, the old headmaster vanished, leaving behind blue particles in the air. Teleportation.
Must be in a hurry if he needed a mage to teleport him.
" Will, let's check out the dorms first then we explore. " I was reminded of my friend's presence behind me as she once again glomped on me from behind. Her strong arms choked me as she excitedly pulled me away in a random direction.
Someone help, I'm being choked to death by this girl.
Timeskip
After my near-death experience, we arrived at our dorm, the female dormitory.
The school was designed akin to a cross. The main castle which housed the classrooms and Dining hall sits in the middle. To the east and west sits the male and female dorm respectively. The arena meanwhile sits on the south. At the north position sits the huge stadium to which we came from earlier. The gates are also located at the north which leads to the city as the school was located in its northern district near the sea.
Giving our names to an old lady, who is the Dorm mother, we took our keys to our rooms. Dimitri is sad that our rooms weren't neighbors. I'm just glad she won't be able to visit me frequently. I wanted to survive the school year and her hugs will someday kill me. That girl needs to learn her strengths and limits.
Promising to meet up again at the front of the dorm, we split up.
Arriving at my room, I inserted my key to open it. Turning the Mana-infused lights on, I surveyed the room that I would be using for the rest of the year.
The room was small but it was enough for me. I was used to a small room when me and Mom got evicted, forcing us to move into a cheap apartment after Dad left us. It had a comfortable-looking bed with a small drawer and a desk with a seat beside it. There was also a big wardrobe sitting on the wall with a vanity mirror attached to its door. I found a bathroom in my room which revealed to have a shower, toilet, and sink. Minimal but doable. I then opened the huge window sitting on the wall of my room. I felt the morning sea breeze blowing in, relaxing me.
Huh, looks like our dorm is facing the sea.
I mused to myself as I looked at the distant blue sea from afar. Looks like I'm gonna get used to this.
Timeskip
Night finally came after a day of exhausting exploration courtesy of Dimitri. I swear that girl is an endless bundle of energy. We explored the entire castle from top to bottom. The Dining hall, classrooms, library, and other nooks and crannies Dimitri could find. The only place we didn't explore is the infirmary (Dimitri is afraid of needles) and the headmaster's office.
Walking back to my room after having dinner with Dimitri in the Dining hall, I noticed a piece of paper sticking out of my door. Picking it up, it revealed to be my list of my subject's schedule.
Many people might be teleported in this world but only a few of them are teachers. It's the main reason why education was not established last year. Thankfully a few volunteers and student teachers made drafts in recreating modern education in this world. So when we finally established a stable government and society, they pushed their proposals to President Hush who gladly took it. Today, only kindergarten and elementary schools were first established as the curriculums were simple enough to replicate. The high school and college curricula were the hard ones to recreate as they needed specialized fields of education. The only exception to this is our school. Hush deemed this school important as this school will produce this generation's heroes. In doing so, our subjects covered everything they had.
English, Mathematics, PE, Science, and home economics are the common subjects we have that the teachers have already replicated. Then there were the exotic subjects.
Magic theories, Monster studies, Combat Strategies, and Live Combat.
These subjects were created by the Hero division based on their finds and experiences.
Looking at the list, all of my normal subjects are scheduled in the mornings while my exotic subjects are in the afternoon. But there was a major change from a normal school schedule.
Fridays are allocated for an entire day for Live Combat.
Studying the entire list, I went to my desk and pulled out my communications stone from my inventory to call Mom.
The stone was an invention from the Hero division in an attempt to replicate phones and radios. What they got instead, is two stones enchanted to make face-to-face calls with each other.
Pressing the ruin sculpted on it, I made my call. After a few seconds of waiting, the glowing face of my mother emerged akin to a hologram in sci-fi movies.
"Hi, Mom." I greeted her.
"Oh, sweetie. How are you? Is the school great? If not, can I take you home?" She looked at me in worry.
I sighed in my head. Mom disapproved of my decision to go to this school. The only reason I managed to change her mind is that this way, I could find a good and stable job after I graduate. She pointed out that I would be in danger if I joined the heroes division to which I countered that I was a Healer, Healers don't fight. Reluctantly, she agreed to my decision but she would pull me out if I changed my mind. She still looks after me even if we disagree.
"No, mom. I'm okay, really."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I have Dimitri with me, remember? "
"Okay, sure. So how's your day? Tell me about your school"
I then recounted to her my earlier experience and exploration of the school. We spent the entire evening talking before I went to bed late at 9 p.m.
Timeskip
It's now the start of the school year. For the entire week, we familiarize ourselves with our subjects. The normal subjects are easy enough as it's still bare bones and isn't yet complete. It was the exotic subjects that I enjoyed.
Magic theories are all about studying how Mana, the energy/magic, works and how to utilize it for own use. Naturally, the Warrior class students struggled in this subject as they had zero affinity for magic. Mage and Healers had no problem with it. The Rogues had a lesser affinity for manipulating magic compared to the Warriors.
Monster studies meanwhile focused on studying all kinds of monsters found outside the unexplored lands beyond the city. It was like a mix of biology and zoology, to be honest. Too bad we are more focused on killing them than studying them.
Combat strategies are like a mix of practical PE and theoretical combat scenarios. Our instructor taught us a training regimen for body conditioning. Live combat is harsh, so we needed to hone our bodies as such. He also taught various strategies in magical and physical combat. Weapon handling, First aid, and others.
And then Friday finally came.
Timeskip
I find myself nervously waiting in the arena with the other students. The arena is much bigger than I thought from the outside.
The arena was shaped like a giant circle coliseum. In the middle sits a smaller but huge enough circular pit which is where I am now. Countless rows of seats lined up the sides of the coliseum. I think it can hold the entire city's population.
Finally, after a few minutes of waiting, our teacher came.
" Greetings, dear students. I'm glad to see you all excited for today's Live combat practices" he said. " But first let me explain what the subject entails for you."
" Here is where you all get the chance to practice and see the result of your training."
"But you will not do it alone, as you can see, our valued Golden Squad is a four-man team that successfully repelled all kinds of threats. The school has decided to make you get used to working in a squad. So I want you all to group up in four before we start. "
What!
I looked around me in panic as students grouped up with their friends. Something I didn't do for the entire week.
I was more focused on studying than making friends, and now it's coming to bite me in the ass. To be fair, I wasn't a socially inept person, I was just awkward as a kid back in the original world and that reflects here too, even with the positive physical changes.
Now I felt like crying.
Luckily, someone saved me.
"Will, let's team up!" Dimitri suddenly appeared, glomping on me from behind.
"Dimitri!" I hugged her back, wailing her name. I'm happy to have you as a friend and I take back everything I said behind your back.
"There, there. Dimitri is here" she cooed at me while patting my head in comfort.
OK, you're just treating me like a baby now.
After that, we looked for another member of our team. We needed two more to complete our group.
We tried to look for a girl. The problem is that most of the girls had grouped up with their friends or good-looking boys. We then resigned to take in boys in our group.
I rejected all of them as I didn't like how they kept looking at Dimitri. I always knew that her beauty would get her unwanted attention and so I have decided to ensure that no one takes advantage of my friend. The boys mostly gave stink eyes after rejecting them. Screw them though.
"How about that guy, Will? I think we can pick him."
Dimitri pointed at a lone guy isolated from the other students. He was strapping his gear.
Looking closely, I took a look at Dimitri's new pick.
He was extremely short. Shorter than me. 4 '9 in my estimate. A Warrior class based on his sturdy-looking armor (which looks comical on him). Shaggy black hair covered his head. He had a sun-kissed tan which is lighter than Dimitri's skin tone. He was not handsome or ugly, just average looking.
"*Sigh* he'll do." I resigned in defeat too which Dimitri happily skipped towards the guy. But if he gives me a reason, I'll reject him.
"Hellooo" Dimitri greeted the guy in a sing-song voice.
He stopped checking his gear and just blankly stared.
Just stared.
Feeling awkward, Dimitri finally pulled out the question.
"Do you want to be part of our team?" she asked.
"Okay," he answered instantly and went back to his gear.
Silence.
"That's it?" I asked.
"Ehem"
"No...I don't know, anything to say"
He then looked at me dead in the eye with a blank stare.
"I'm a loner, deal with it." he simply said.
"Oooh" I heard from Dimitri.
Okay, that explains how you are so blank even with a beautiful girl like Dimitri in front of you.
We then fell into an awkward silence as he tinkered around with his gear.
"The name is Clint" he suddenly said, breaking the silence.
"Oh, my name is Dimitri. Nice to meet you, Clint." Dimitri eagerly took his hand (without consent) and shook it as much as she could.
He then looked at me for help, his expression helpless as Dimitri shook his hand eagerly. Feel my pain.
"Names Will." I simply said while leaving him to his fate.
Suddenly, someone joined us.
"Are you guys still looking for a member?" a girl's beautiful voice called to us.
I looked at the origin of the voice and was met by God's greatest gift to this world.
She was beautiful. Pale white hair like snow, a very cute dainty face, she is like a princess. She is also dressed like one, kinda. A tight white tube top covered her small breast, with a small white half poncho covering it for modesty. Her lower half was covered with a blue miniskirt with small shorts under it. Her entire ensemble is a heavily altered Rogue class uniform. It made her look like a Rogue princess.
She is currently shyly looking at us with her hands together, fidgeting on the spot.
I think I'm going gay.
"Yes, of course, you can join us. The more the merrier."
It was Dimitri who got to her first. Hugging her while spinning around, she happily accepted the girl on the spot. I support this decision, I want to hoard this beauty for our group(myself).
The poor girl looked so confused as was spun around by the excitable girl.
Too late to back out now, princess.
Timeskip
We now find ourselves waiting for our turn in the arena stands. It was decided by the instructor to put us all into 4v4 group fights to gauge our current abilities.
While waiting the Rogue princess introduced herself as Elizabeth von Krieg. She was from Paris before the incident took her from her home. We also found out she came from a very rich household and was homeschooled her whole life. The incident was actually her first time outside of her home without a security detail following her.
She is also wearing a standard Rogue outfit. She wore a skin-tight black shirt that hugged her modest chest, leather pants, and boots. Her arms also had leather greaves on them. Her weapon of choice is a Saber.
Oh, God. I never thought we would have adopted an aristocratic girl into our group.
While watching the first group of students beat each other to unconsciousness, Clint noticed my gear.
"Will, Where is your weapon?"
"Ah, I don't have any." I said to him, " I'm a healer you see. "
He did not look amused by my answer.
He then proceeded to tinker with his inventory silently. Obviously, I can't see it. Elizabeth and Dimitri look at him curiously at what he is doing. After a few seconds, he produced two items from his inventory.
A mace and a small shield.
He then pushed the weapons on my arms. Their sudden weight almost made me collapse from my seat but Dimitri pushed me back to sit properly.
Putting the two items on the side, I questioned him.
"What's this supposed to be?" I gestured at the mace and shield.
"Yeah, what gives?" thanks for the support Dimitri. Elizabeth is merely watching us now.
"Weapons?" He looked at me like I was some dumb animal.
"That was a rhetorical question " I looked at him with narrowed eyes.
Sighing, he proceeded to take the shield from the seat. He then gave his hand to me. I look at it in confusion.
"Not-dominant hand, Now" he growled. His eyes narrowed in what I think is subdued anger.
"Eep" I immediately gave him my non-dominant arm which is to my left. The short guy has a terrifying face when angry.
He then took it with surprising gentleness as he started to strap in the small shield to my forearm.
"Even if you're a healer, danger always comes to everyone. You must have something to protect yourself and your patients from harm. Not only that, but you are currently the most vulnerable member of our group"
He explained it to me. His voice was soft with a hint of harshness. When he reached the part where I was the weak link to the group, it made me frown at that. He must have seen my frown as he continued his explanation while strapping the last belt.
" I didn't mean to make you sound weak. What I mean is that as our Healer, you have the riskiest job" he said, " tell me, in a fight to the death, who do you kill first? The knight who fights or the Healer who keeps the knight fresh for combat" he ended with a somber tone.
I felt bones chill by his words.
People will try to kill me?
Why?
I'm a Healer, not a combatant.
"You're getting it now at least. In combat, assume the worst-case scenario to happen and you will never be surprised."
He ended as he strapped the last belt. He then turned back to the fight below the pit.
Will you accept the trade?
Items:
Swordhaven Mace and Buckler
Yes or No
I looked at him in surprise.
" Consider it a gift" he simply replied. He continued to watch the fight below.
I accepted his trade, thankful for his gift. I then observed my newly acquired weapons.
The mace was a simple iron cube attached to a wooden handle. The cube also had iron prisms at the sides for extra oomph on impact. Meanwhile, the buckler was a simple gray shield with an elaborate dragon design on the face.
It was beautiful. The dragon design was etched with black background while the dragon was made from gold. I would hate to see it break in combat.
"At Least he is nice even with his loner attitude " I jumped at Dimitri's voice beside me. She is currently looking at me and my new gear in curiosity. Elizabeth is also with her.
"That's nice of him to give up some high-quality gear like that" Elizabeth pointed out.
Huh?
Me and Dimitri look at her in question. What did she just say?
Under our combined gazes, Elizabeth melted into a blushing mess. She then explained to us why.
"I have seen that design from the weapon merchant from the pier. They said that weapons and armor with that draconic design came from a faraway kingdom." she pointed at the shield, " They say that this quality of equipment was made to slay dragons. It was also the main reason why it's so expensive. Last time I was there, I saw a sword with that design costing over 10,000 gold. " she explained.
Our eyes became wide at the fact.
10,000 gold.
My Mom's current wage is 1,000 gold weekly and this mace and shield is estimated to be ten times over that.
"OK, who is this shortie?"
Me too, Dimitri. Me too.
Timeskip
"Should we help him?"
Elizabeth meekly whispered beside me as we all watched the massacre currently happening in front of us.
"Aaah, let's just let him do his thing, Lizzy. I'm sure he is fine. " Dimitri answered the Albino girl.
Her statement was then punctuated when a student went flying in the air towards the stands. Luckily, the magic barriers were activated to protect the stands. Unluckily, said flying student went splat on the translucent barrier like a fly hitting a car window. That student then broke into blue particles, signifying that he was unconscious, and was teleported away to the infirmary by the enchantments in the arena.
Who could have done this?
The answer is who we are currently watching.
Clint Alvaro is a tiny menace. He is so short at the height of 4 '9. He is like a junior high schooler compared to other students.
When it's our team to come down to the pit, everyone and I mean everyone noticed Clint almost immediately. Being the only guy and the shortest member of the team, he was the first (and only) target of the enemy team's trash talk. Granted, our opponents' group was entirely composed of the guys I rejected from joining our group earlier, so it was understandable that they were peeved about why we had Clint in our group. Naturally, they took out their frustration on him by trash talk.
Then it went to shit.
I don't know what happened or what did they say but Clint suddenly froze.
And then we heard his gauntlets crumple in his clenched fists. Then he proceeded to toss his sword (a long sword the same size as him) to the ground and proceeded to power walk towards the trash-talking boys.
Naturally, we tried to follow him.
But then he pulled his armored gauntlets like a sleeve.
He pulled his steel gauntlets which were made from a very strong metal like a piece of cloth!
We all stopped in our tracks after that when we realized how pissed he was.
Warily, the boys started to surround Clint when he got closer to them. Then they all attack together, rushing him.
That's when shit hits the fan.
It was a massacre.
Mind you, the guys are all using long swords (bigger than Clint's) but Clint merely dodged or parried their blades with his bare hands.
With his fucking bare hands!
He then fought back against his four assailants and it was brutal. Punching, kicking, and headbutting, he fought like an action movie star. Remember the guy who went flying? He sent him flying with an uppercut. That's when the remaining three wise up.
Warily, they encircled him again. Clint just stood in his spot watching them. It was a standoff.
Then one of them attacked. With an overhead swing and a shout, he slashed down to Clint's head. Clint merely sidestepped the attack and let the sword sink to the ground. He then stepped on the blade with a big stomp, immobilizing the weapon. Before his other friends could react, Clint gave him a one-two combo to the face which instantly knocked him out on his ass. He was then teleported afterward.
The last two remaining guys didn't like that. They both charged Clint intending to skewer him. Both coming from opposite directions, there was no escape.
"Look out!" Elizabeth screamed in panic.
It wasn't needed.
With unexpected speed, Clint caught both tips of their swords in his grasp. One in the front and one on his back.
The two guys' faces were shocked. They can't believe what just happened. They then tried to pull their swords but it was stuck. Clint's grip on the tips is too strong. It wasn't for long though as Clint shoved the blade pointed at his back. The shove was strong enough to send the student down to his ass. Seeing this, his friend renewed his efforts in reclaiming his sword. Clint saw this and decided to help him. Pulling the sword, he reeled in the student like a fish. Surprised at the sudden action, the poor student had no time to react as he was reeled into a powerful uppercut. The poor guy flew almost 10 feet in the air before he fell into hard ground. He was then teleported away. Seeing all of his comrades gone, the last remaining student did what he could only do in the situation,
" I surrender!" he screamed while putting his head to the ground in submission.
The entire arena was silent.
Of course, it would be silent. We all just watched a massacre happen. It was also done by the most unexpected/shortest student in the year. In context, the guys Clint just fought are taller and more muscular than him. It was a huge shock to us when he just simply dismantled the entire group alone and unarmed.
After the last one surrendered, Clint started walking back to us. We stood still, frozen in fear, as he passed the three of us.
" Sorry, I hogged them all to myself."
What?
Did he just say that?
I turned my head to look at the retreating figure of him, most likely going to the showers to clean up, in confusion.
Looking at the two girls with me, they also shared the look of confusion on my face. With a shared look, we decided to follow him back to the waiting rooms.
"That…was an interesting turn of events, I guess," Dimitri said unsurely, pointing out what just happened.
I merely nodded to her while Elizabeth meekly shrugged her shoulders.
At Least our time here will be exciting with someone like Clint running around in the school.
I just hope I can survive this school year.
Headmaster's POV
Sitting in one of the hidden rooms at the arena, I lounge while watching the new generation prove their worth.
"Are you sure that boy needs to be here, Alan?"
I sighed as my secretary asked the question I already answered countless times this past month.
"The choice was out of my hand, Ms. Rein. The Guildmaster specifically sent him to us with orders to educate and curve his tendency in… Violence." I assured her.
"But sir, the boy had just overpowered a group of 4 students, Warriors at that mind you, in front of everyone in the school." she exclaimed, then with a hushed voice she said, "Isn't that suspicious, what if he gets caught?" worry covered her face.
This is why I had you as my secretary Ms. Rein. Strict but kind, a perfect assistant for someone in deep enemy territory.
"Hahaha, that boy played a dangerous game but he wasn't suspicious at all. It may seem like the boy had a suspicious amount of power but he played under the Warrior class rules." I explained to her. Seeing her perplexed expression I continued.
" You noticed when he walked towards those students" she nodded, " it might be unseen but he actually cast a spell at that point."
"But sir, Warriors have almost no affinity to magic. The class merely has their body enhancements. Even with the enhancements, Mr. Alvaro (Clint) shouldn't be able to do what he did. " Ms. Rein said with a frown.
It was expected. The Hero division after all studied all the classes and their abilities.
Too bad they forgot to add other classes to their research.
" Yes, Warriors have no affinity to magic. But did you forget? The Hero division mages found out in their research that every single class had Mana in their system. That means every single class had Mana circulating in their bodies even if they had no affinity to magic. " I grinned at her.
Mana, the source of magic in this world. It flows in everything, living or nonliving, it has Mana. Something this city had yet to know but that group already has. With Mana, anything is possible.
It's the main reason I can still walk to this day after all. When I was teleported by the incident, I was in a retirement home. Too weak to walk even with the enhancement my class gave me, I lay helpless on the ground in that field that day. Just wasting away as time and people pass by. It was with the help of that group that I lived that day. It was them who gave me the way to walk again. Now, I'm just happy to help them from afar.
"Wait, you don't mean that boy found a way to manipulate his Mana to strengthen himself even more?! "
Ms. Rein looked at the walking boy in the pit with shock. Understandable from her point of view.
Each one of the four starting classes had different affinities of magic. Mage and Healer had the most powerful control of Mana in the group. Coming in second is the Rogue class as they had partial control in Mana to power their deadly and stealth spells. The Warrior meanwhile had zero affinity to magic. This is according to the findings of the Hero division.
"Of course, he would find a way to mitigate his current weakness, Ms. Rein. " I exclaimed boisterously to her, " Do remember that this boy came from that group." I reminded her.
My words shook the Secretary as her mind truly comprehended how powerful the young student was.
" Wait, he is currently weakened!" she shouted in surprise, "How powerful is the boy truly, Headmaster."
"Hmm, of what the Guildmaster said to me…"
"The boy is powerful enough to challenge and possibly defeat the Gods of this world."
She paled.
Ms. Rein had already read a few books smuggled by the Guild for us. One of the first books she had read was The Gods of this World.
They are all real and very powerful.
And now she just found out a mere boy of 17 can challenge a real God, her worldview is shattered.
She covered her face with both hands as she groaned akin to a dying person.
"Augh, this year will be a huge headache. Why did I apply for this job?"
I just laughed loudly at her words. Agreeing to her words, the entire school year would be a headache. Of course, it was to be expected, this a school for aspiring heroes after all.
Oh, my poor wife, if only you were here, you would make this world beautiful.

Research Division notes.
Warrior class notes:
The Hero Division did a good job of researching everything the classes can do.
Too bad they had a very limited sample.
The first classes we examined and researched are the four main classes. Of the four, the Warrior has zero affinity to magic.
This is false.
The Warrior, like other classes, had Mana. The only problem is that Warrior can't use this Mana to affect anything outside of their body.
So what if the Warrior uses it to buff himself?
This was our solution. And it works. The Warrior class had the specialty of manipulating Mana in their bodies to buff themselves in absurd levels of strength, speed, and toughness. This method was akin to a Reinforcement spell in the Nasu universe, which leads to its drawback. This method was found through the other classes power systems.
Each class follows a system of rules for their power.
The Warrior class system focused on amplifying their stats with magic and possibly even use other classes skills if they managed to reach the requirements needed. However, there is a major drawback to the Warrior class power system.
The body must be able to handle the Mana.
As Warriors, their bodies are already enhanced to various degrees. This allowed them to handle the Reinforcement spell. But if a class didn't qualify a certain level of toughness or a single slip of control, the Mana rampages inside the body, injuring and in worst cases killing the caster.
Currently, only a few classes can do the reinforcement spell. Mage classes are advised not to use this spell as it needs complete control of Mana.
Author notes.
Clint used the On Guard spell together with the reinforcement spell.
This fic is going to be a huge project of mind because of how huge the AQW universe is. The game is literally the perfect crossover game.
P. S.
I completed the Malgor storyline and left crying. Artix knew how to write a perfectly good storyline.
