Dusknoir, inside the body of the immense Yveltal, contemplated the enormous hole that he had caused in the island, which was now unrecognizable and only some small islets could be seen. To the enemy's good luck, the machine with the energy beam was still active: his previous slave had connected it to Yveltal's powers, and as long as it was standing, the machine would still be active.
"The chosen children are nothing to me!" the enemy sneered, "Now…"
Using Yveltal's legendary powers, he released dark electrical discharges that powered the machine and the beam became even more powerful.
"It will only be 5 minutes before both worlds fall…" Dusknoir thought.
(But...)
In the hole, an energy of light began to break up the little earth that still remained, revealing a sphere of light that covered the chosen kids, who had been injured, but miraculously alive. On their necks, the medallions projected that energy.
"That was too close…" Mina commented, "I thought now would be the end of us."
"Say that for everyone, I felt exactly the same," Luke sighed, "I'm out of breath to describe how close we were."
"Rex, are you okay?" Katie asked him, "For a moment, I thought you…"
"I'm fine, I just…" Rex blushed a little, "I promised your mother to protect you, remember that?"
"Well, thank you very much."
Katie walked over and gave him a small kiss, to which Rex blushed even more.
"Um…guys…" Zack interrupted, "Do you believe that this is a good time?"
"Hey? Oh, that's true!" Rex said, returning to the situation.
"This is not good," said Dylan, looking at the energy beam and Yveltal empowering it, "That beam will not take long to destroy the dimensional barrier, it is only a matter of minutes."
"How can we destroy Yveltal?" Luke questioned.
"We can't even think to destroy him," Rose warned them, to which the others paid attention. "It is like the angel of death in our world: life and death are also important in this world, they coexist in harmony with nature. If one were to leave, the balance would collapse."
"How do you know?" Katie asked.
"When I connected with my emblem the first time, I was able to perceive the truths of nature, as well as my qualities. But one thing is certain, only the force of life can counteract that of death..."
There was a second of silence until Dylan patted his hand against his palm in a gesture of understanding.
"That is!" he said, surprising everyone, "The medallions! They are also the fruits of life!"
"But we already tried to fight with our Mega forms and we couldn't," Mina said.
"I know, but... Xerneas told us that these were the fruits of the tree of life, the very power of it. Separately, each one has great power, but if we unite them…"
"We could counter the power of Yveltal's death!" Luke exclaimed, "That's a good idea! But, even if we can combine all of them into one… it would be risky."
"I'll do it," Rex offered.
"Rex, that's brave, but…" Katie told him.
"It's actually the best option," Dylan suggested, "According to Mew, you're the one who marked us since we were little; and now you are the one who brought us together after 1 year. "You gave us the light, now we must give you ours."
"I agree," Rose supported.
Zack, Mina and Luke also agreed. Only one support was missing.
"Rex, are you sure?" Katie asked him.
"Yes, don't worry, I'll be fine...do you trust me?" he told her.
Katie saw the determination of her friend, she remembered that, even though she didn't have confidence in herself, Rex always supported her by giving her the vote of confidence. It was her turn to return her favor.
"Okay, I'll support you"
Rex nodded and, along with his companions, they stood up and held the fruits of life together. They reacted and began to shine in their respective colors, while Rex stood in the middle, holding his own high. This glow was not lost on Dusknoir, who, turning Yveltal's head, could see the chosen children still alive and planning a last-ditch effort.
"Over and over again…" he said to himself, "The chosen kids always have to be in our way… Enough is enough!"
As with the previous attack, he began to gather a large amount of sinister energy, in order to wipe them out with what was left of half the island. The kids noticed that.
"Now!" They all shouted together, raising their medallions, at the level of Rex's.
Yveltal attacked with his terrible Giga Dark Pulse, before hitting the kids, the medallions created a barrier of light around them that repelled the attack. From Dusknoir's point of view: it seemed that the Charizard that was in the middle began to shine and grow... in an excessive way. It got bigger and bigger until its shine stopped...
Before him was the chosen boy of the emblem of valor, transformed into a Charizard of colossal proportions: his wings had been imbued with so much energy that they were lit in flames hotter than magma. The inner fire he possessed had become more powerful, and he oozed fire from his mouth and horns, as well as his tail. Below them, the other kids in Ultra form contemplated his achievement.
"Woah!" Zack exclaimed.
"That's big!" Mina commented.
"Big?" asked Dylan, "I thin that it is Giga!"
Rex turned the huge head to look at his friends. For a minute, they thought he had gone feral or he wouldn't recognize them.
"Rex?" Katie asked.
The Giga Charizard raised his right claw, making a thumbs-up gesture and implying that he was aware of his new Giga-Evolution. Then, he turned his gaze to the front, where the controlled Yveltal was preparing to attack.
"Damn medallions…" said Dusknoir, "Still don't think you've surpassed my powers... Giga Shadow Ball!"
As his name said, it was a shadow ball almost the same size as him. Rex didn't need to move: he just raised one of his large claws, literally blocking that attack with his hand. Then, he activated Slash to destroy that evil ball. At this, Dusknoir forced Yveltal to take flight.
"Deathwing!" attacked the Ybeltal.
"Gigaflare!" Rex countered.
The attacks collided in the air, and both remained in lockstep for a few seconds until the Gigaflare surpassed Ybeltal's power. It protected itself with its wings, but the heat was so intense that it rejected it and it threw itself back to the ground.
"Nice!" Katie shouted happily.
"Be careful Rex," Dylan warned, "You must not destroy Yveltal."
"But how do we free him from Dusknoir's control?" Mina asked.
Zack used his Luxray gaze and managed to see Yveltal at the distance he had fallen. Furthermore, he managed to see through the mechanism that controlled it: all the cables and power were centered on the center plate.
"Rex!" Zack yelled at him, "Hit that plate in the chest!"
The gigantic Charizard nodded in understanding. At the same time, Yveltal had risen again and carried Rex into the sky. Now, between claws and fins, it had become a giant aerial battle.
At one point during the battle, Yveltal stabbed one of his bird claws into Rex's body.
"You can't beat me!" he claimed, "Now I have the power of death!"
"And we... the power of life!" Rex responded, concentrating energy on his fist, "Maximum Fist!"
Rex slammed Yveltal's chest plate hard, causing an electrical reaction. The device seemed to have resisted the blow, as if it were protected by a small electric field, but in a short time cracks were evident and it finally broke.
Yveltal roared and Dusknoir's dark aura began to separate from him, finally succeeding. The dark being tried to escape, but Rex already had it locked on.
"Maximum Thunder!" he attacked.
The biggest thunder he could have imagined fell from the sky, and it hit Dusknoir, taking him straight to the machine that generated the beam of light. In the blink of an eye, the attack hit and destroyed the machine and a large chunk of the island. The beam stopped, and only a hole remained between a large layer of clouds.
"Did he beat him?" Luke asked, when the smoke had cleared, "He beat it!"
"Look," Rose warned them.
Rex descended with Yveltal on his shoulders. When he reached land, he left the legendary resting on the ground and the chosen boy returned to his Ultra form, in normal size. Immediately, he fainted.
"Rex?" Katie asked him, as she approached with the others, "Rex! Answer!"
"Yo...step...on...il" he managed to say in his tiredness.
"What?"
"You're stepping on my tail," he clarified.
"Ups, I'm sorry"
"Well done mate," Dylan said, helping him up, "How are you feeling?"
"As if a banquet were just the starter dish. I think I need to replenish my energy."
"Here," Rose said, giving him a berry, "It's the last one, but I think you'll regain some energy."
"Thank you..."
As Rex chewed the berry, an agonized moan was heard. When they turned their gaze, they were shocked: Dusknoir was crawling towards them, but his body was also beginning to fade like ash.
"Twice…" he said, "Chosen humans… have defeated me…"
"Now I understand!" Luke remembered, "I saw him on some old wanted posters in Treasure Village a long time ago: He's the Dusknoir servant of the Primary Dialga!"
"The one that the old stories of the chosen ones tell?" Mina asked, "But I thought he had vanished in the time restauration…"
The Dusknoir, in his agony, laughed.
"I almost felt lost…" he said, with the last of his strength, "Until it… it saved me…"
Saying this, he fell to the ground, his body having almost been consumed.
"It?" Zack asked, "Who are you referring to? Is there someone else?"
But the Dusknoir had completely dissolved.
"Did Dusknoir just say about someone else?" Katie asked, "Who?"
Almost immediately, an earthquake occurred in the place, shattering what remained of the island, separating two islets: one containing the unconscious Yveltal's body, which floated away; while the chosen kids remained in the other. From the sky, the hole that had been left gave off a great, dark energy. Someone or something was inside it.
"I have a bad feeling we're about to find out…" Rex said, watching what was happening.
