Sam sight as she sat down in the control room trying to fix the dialing problem. The first day off in three weeks and look how long that lasted.

She was home for exactly 8 hours as Walter called. Something was wrong with the dialing Computer that nobody was able to fix. They couldn't establish a stable wormhole and at least three SG teams were stranded offline as far as she knew.

General O'Neill walked in surprised to see Sam sitting at the control panel.

"Colonel! What are you doing here? I thought you had the next two days off!?"

"Good morning, Sir! That's what I thought, too. Walter called an hour ago, obviously we're not able to dial in or out. That leaves three SG teams stranded as well as Daniel, he's accompanying SG9 on their mission."

"Leave it to Daniel to get into trouble. Let me know how it's going and if you need anything. I'm in my office."

"Yes, Sir."

She turned around to get started, she had to bring Daniel home, soon.

A few hours later she smelled the coffee before she saw the cup that was placed in front of her by the General.

"Thank you, Sir. Just what I needed right now."

"So Carter, no news yet?"

"Not the results I wanted to have by now." she glanced towards her watch.

"You got somewhere to be, Colonel?" Jack asked curiously.

"Apparently not."

"Huh?"

"It's nothing, Sir. But while you're here we may as well try dialing out again. I've rewritten some codes, but haven't tested them yet. Maybe that's it. Let's have a look."

"Fingers crossed, Carter."

And finally the gate spun around, chevron 1 to 6 engaged without problems. Everyone in the room was silently waiting for the last chevron. As Walter called "Chevron 7 locked." The room cheered for joy.

They were able to establish a stable connection to the planet where currently SG9 and Daniel were hiding from the natives.

"Major Benton, how's your situation?"

"Thank God, it's good to hear from you General. What was wrong with you? We tried to dial home for the last 10 hours. We need medical attention. We ran into an ambush and are hiding near the Gate. Dr. Jackson was shot, it's only a flesh wound, but I would feel better if he was looked after."

"Alright, dial in when it's safe for you, we'll have a medical team waiting here for you."

Jack noticed a silent sigh from Sam. He wondered what was going on, she behaved strangely today.

He was interrupted in his thoughts by the spinning gate. SG9 came through the event horizon supporting Daniel.

His pants were soaked with blood. They laid him onto the stretcher so that the medical team was able to get him to the infirmary as soon as possible.

"Good to have you back SG9, report to the infirmary and get checked out.'' The General greeted his team through the speaker. And then he turned to Walter "So we're able to get the other teams back as well?"

"Yes, Sir. Thanks to Colonel Carter."

"Then do it. Carter, you want to go down and have a look at Daniel?"

"Yes, Sir."

"Go ahead, I'll just inform the president that we're back on track and then I'll come, too.

7 floors up in the infirmary Daniel lay on the hospital bed and got his leg checked out. A nurse was cleaning his wound so that Dr. Lam was able to stitch it.

"Hey Daniel, how are you doing?"

"Hi Sam, not too bad. We were lucky to hide just in time."

Sam sat down as the doctor entered the room.

"Hey, it's not as bad as it seems, however you won't be out of here until tomorrow. I want you to stay for at least 24 hours to make sure there's nothing infected. You have to put your leg up for the next couple of days."

"So spacemonkey, we leave you alone for one simple mission and you get yourself shot." Jack smirked.

"Thank you Doctor." he told her and turned to Jack "Yeah Jack, but don't start a discussion on who's fault that is. It wouldn't have happened if we were able to dial the gate in time."

A frustrated groan escaped Sam. Not unnoticed by the General and Daniel as well.

"Oh boy, Sam I'm sorry, it was today wasn't it?" Daniel looked down disappointed.

"It doesn't matter Daniel, the main thing is that you are fine."

"What am I missing here?" Jack asked impatiently.

"Nothing, sir." Sam replied but Daniel wouldn't let this one go.

"It's Sam's high school reunion today and I promised her to accompany her, so that she didn't have to go alone. You know how it is to go alone to those things. It sucks. And now that I'm bound to the bed, that's not possible anymore."

Jack smirked "High school reunion, huh?"

"Yes, I really didn't want to go, but Daniel talked me into it. So it's ok, Daniel. You just try to heal. There will be other reunions I may be able to attend."

"You still have an hour to get ready, Sam. Maybe you'll find someone else. Hey Jack, what about you?"

"Me? What about me?"

"Why don't you go with Sam. In the field you always have her back, so why not now. Who knows, it might be fun." Daniel had a huge grin on his face.

Jack turned towards Sam "It's not too late, let's go."

"What?" she asked, a little stunned.

"You know, Daniel is right. It might be fun. After today you could do with some fun evening. At least there are free drinks, right?"

"Yeah, the drinks are free. But you don't have to do this."

"Come on Carter, I'm curious about the people who went to school with you. Go home, change your outfit, I'm picking you up in 45 minutes."

"Oh... Ok, Sir. Get well soon Daniel."

"Thanks Sam. And have a nice evening."

As Sam left the infirmary Daniel turned to Jack "You owe me mister."

"What are you talking about Daniel?"

"I just got you a date with Sam, I had to got shot to do so, don't screw it."

"Daniel, you know damn well we're not supposed to do things like that."

"Yes, I know. And I still think you should ignore the regs. But anyway, go out and have fun, even if it is for just one evening."

"I think you're right. I owe you Daniel."

And with that he also left the infirmary, going to get changed and get ready to pick up the most beautiful woman he knew.
