"Tell me, do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls?" asked Link. Link and Sonic were sitting by a little pond in the Faron Woods. The sun was setting, and night was coming fast. "Sometimes," replied Sonic. "But I know that tomorrow is always a new day." Link smiled. "Well, thank you for being honest," he said. "Now enough talk of sadness. I have a favor to ask of you, Sonic."
"What's that?" asked Sonic. "I was supposed to deliver something to the princess the day after tomorrow, for her birthday," said Link. "Would you like me to do it instead?" asked Sonic. "Yes please," replied Link. They looked out at the setting sun and realized it would be time for bed soon. "It's getting late, Sonic," said Link. "We should be heading back to the village." So off they went with Epona the horse walking slowly behind them. Ordon Village was a simple village, very modest. There were four houses, one for each of Sonic's friends: Link, Amy and Tails. The fourth one belonged to Sonic. And they were families too. Link's son was named Luigi and Tails' children were Rainbow Dash (in human form), Mario and Spike (in dragon form). Amy was also the stepsister of Link. Sonic was happy to see his friends and their familes, but he wanted to go to bed. So first, they took Epona to the Ordon springs where she could rest and Sonic went up to his house with a big yawn before heading to bed.
However, Tails had one small favor to ask of him.
"Hey, Sonic! Are you there?" he called. Sonic woke up with a big yawn. "Hey, Link. What's up?" he asked as he climbed down. "Hey, sorry to bother you, Sonic," said Tails. "But I was wondering if you had enough energy left to help me herd the goats."
"No problem," yawned Sonic, again. Luckily, he had just enough energy to help his best friend. But first, Sonic had to find Epona so he ran to the Ordon springs and there she was, being washed by Amy Rose, who was in her bare feet at the moment. "Oh, hi, Sonic," she said sweetly. "I washed Epona for you." Sonic was pleased. "Tails needs me to help herd the goats," he said. "Can I take Epona with me?"
"Sure," said Amy. "But before you do, can you play that song Epona likes?"
"Sure. No problem," said Sonic. And he picked up a piece of grass that was shaped like a horseshoe. Then, he played Epona's Song with it. Epona came running over, pleased to see Sonic. "It's such a lovely melody," said Amy. "Epona looks happy."
"Now can I take her with me?" asked Sonic. "Tails needs my help."
"Certainly," replied Amy. "Just don't make her do too much."
"Okay," said Sonic as he jumped on Epona's back. Then they galloped away.
Sonic and Epona galloped up to Ordon Ranch where Tails was waiting for them. "There you are!" he said brightly. "The goats are very skittish. Do you think you can handle them?"
"We'll do our best," replied Sonic. They got to work herding the goats at a medium speed. Not too fast, not too slow and in under ten minutes, all the goats were in and Tails was happy. "Way to go, Sonic!" he said. "As a thank you, I'll let you and Epona stay and jump over fences."
"That sounds like fun! Thanks, buddy," said Sonic. "What are best friends for?" smiled Tails. "If you get tired of riding, just jump over the gate, okay? Goodnight, Sonic." And he flew off. Sonic just remembered his promise to Amy not to make Epona do too much, so to keep it, he and Epona just jumped over the gate right away.
Sonic finally went to bed, and tomorrow would be a new day.
