Izuku Midoriya's POV:
I ran.
I'd never run so fast in my life.
But right now, all I could think about was running.
Moving forward.
Going fast.
Hurrying.
Getting there in time.
Because from where I stood across the rubble, where I'd been using my telekinesis to help lower civilians to safety, I'd been able to watch it clearly.
A building, wrecked from the villains rampage but still barely standing. Hizashi on one side, using his quirk to yell and try to break through some of the debris. And Shota and Oboro on the other side, seeming to try and pull something out from under the rubble.
Hizashi, not knowing his friends were on the other side of the building, had been letting his sound waves hit the wrecked mess.
And Shota and Oboro were completely unaware of the building slowly leaning towards them from behind, ready to crash down any second.
On top of them.
"Guys!" I tried to yell as loud as I could. "Watch out!"
But it was no use. There was no way any of them could hear me over Hizashi's yelling and the villains rampage and heroes fighting.
I couldn't warn them.
So how else could I help?
As I continued sprinting across the rubble, my foot suddenly landed on a crevice and bent in a way it shouldn't have. I yelped in pain and toppled to the ground, then looked down at my foot and cringed at the very clearly crooked ankle.
That wasn't good.
I looked up in horror as the building started to fall, finally catching Oboro and Shota's attention. Oboro screamed, and Shota stared up in shock and fear as the building toppled down.
They were going to die.
"NO!" I screamed, squeezing my eyes shut and holding my hands out instinctively.
I expected to hear crashing noises, or yells, or something.
But aside from the background noises of the fight, it was quiet.
After a moment, I dared to crack one of my eyes open. Then they both flew open as I stared in shock.
I'd never used my quirk for something bigger then a small shop, or for very far away either.
But somehow, I guess my quirk must've activated out of fear, or instinct or something.
Because my palms were glowing a bright blue, and so was the building, which was frozen in place, held up by an invisible force, mere feet above Shota and Oboro.
Both boys were staring back at it in complete shock.
Finally, Shota had the sense to look around, and caught sight of me on the ground a little ways away. His eyes widened more as I caught his line of sight.
"MOVE!" I yelled, already feeling my body shaking from the strain.
Shota got the hint and grabbed Oboro by the arm, running out of line of the building.
The second I could see they were safely out of the way, I dropped my arms, the building falling to the ground with them. A loud crashing sounds rang out, rumbling the ground and kicking up a huge dust cloud, making me cough.
Once the dust cloud settled, I let my body relax, finding that that meant no longer holding itself up as I fell backwards on the rubble.
I was completely exhausted, my body shaking hard from the adrenaline rush and the strain of using my quirk at such a large level.
So I just layed there, perfectly still, rough breathing for a few moments.
Then, a jarring pain shot up both my arms at once, making me jump up with a scream.
I faintly heard yelling and some footsteps as everything became blurry and I started feeling dizzy and light headed.
I caught sight of a pair of feet in front of me before everything went dark, and I was out cold.
Shota Aizawa's POV:
When I saw the blue and didn't hear the crashing, my first thought was that we were dead.
Surely we were, we had to be. That building had been right on top of us.
But, as I blinked a few times and my eyes adjusted to what I was seeing, I realized I was still looking at the building. Frozen, just above us, seeming to be held up by something invisible. And glowing bright blue.
For a moment, all I could do was stand there in shock.
My life had just flashed before my eyes. The building had been falling on us. My adrenaline rush sure was real.
But I was alive. Somehow, the building had stopped.
My mind was blank. I couldn't think. I could just stand there and stare.
It wasn't until I heard a small voice beside me breathe, "What the..." that I snapped back to attention.
Oboro was still beside me. He was staring up at it too.
I looked back up at the blue, and suddenly, I recognized that blue. I recognized that glow.
Izuku.
I spun around, trying to see where he could be.
He must've used his quirk. He must've seen it falling and stopped it.
But I didn't see him nearby.
Until I saw a small blue glow from what had to be a few dozen feet away, way too far for him to have used his quirk, right?
But yet, as I focused on the glow, I could see him. He was sitting on the ground, staring at the building, and looked just as shocked as I felt.
Then he met my eyes.
"MOVE!" I just heard him yell.
I realized how much strain this was probably putting on his body, holding something this big, from this far away. He wouldn't be able to hold it for long.
I grabbed Oboro's arm and sprinted away from the building as fast as I could, and as soon as we were away, I heard the loud crash from behind us. The ground shook, and dust flew all around us.
I coughed as I turned back to look at the building. Once the dust cleared out, I saw it, crushed into pieces and rubble, almost destroying the concrete ground underneath.
That was almost us under there.
A chill ran up my spine at the thought.
"Oh. My. Word." Oboro breathed beside me, staring at the building. He seemed to still be in shock. "We just almost died."
I nodded slowly, unable to find my words.
Then, I heard familiar yelling coming from the side of the building.
"Guys! Guys!"
I glanced over and saw Hizashi running towards us. Once he got closer, I realized he had an expression I'd never seen on him before. He looked practically terrified, and worried.
"Are- are you guys ok? I'm so sorry, I didn't realize you guys were over there, and I knocked that building down with my yelling, then I heard Oboro yell and the building stopped and-."
I rested a hand on his shoulder. He looked like he was about to explode. "We're fine. And it's ok." I hated how shaky my voice sounded. It probably wasn't very reassuring.
And he didn't look very reassured.
"The building stopping, the blue..." Oboro whispered, interrupting my thoughts. "That was..."
I nodded. "Izuku."
As if on cue, immediately after I said that, a scream rang out from behind me.
The three of us spun around. "Izuku!" Oboro called.
My eyes widened as I saw Izuku still on the ground a ways away, now curled and and hunched over in clear pain. I realized I had never bothered to wonder why he was on the ground. Was he hurt?
Oboro sprinted forward, me and Hizashi close behind.
Just as we approached, he toppled over sideways, and Oboro dove forward to catch him. He was out cold.
"What's wrong with him?" Hizashi asked as me and him kneeled down by Izuku.
I scanned him with my eyes. Everything looked fine until I reached his feet.
"His ankle," I pointed to the twisted foot. "I think it's broken."
"But he was clutching his arms or something, like they were in pain, right? And could a sprained ankle knock him out?" Oboro asked.
"I don't know. But he needs medical help."
Oboro carefully passed Izuku over to Hizashi. "I'll make a cloud, and we can bring him over to the safe zone."
I nodded and looked down at Izuku.
You better be ok.
Oboro Shirakumo's POV:
I stood in front of the tent, pacing back and forth nervously.
My adrenaline had already been going crazy from what had just happened, and it still was a bit, a long with some of leftover shock. And since me and the others had gotten to the safe zone and were told not to go back out after what happened, I'd been able to really think about what happened, and it replayed in my mind over and over again.
But now it was that mixed with worry for Izuku.
I heard his scream. That sounded like some real pain. And the way he was hunched over... it had to be worse then just his ankle.
Especially since when Shota had told the healer what happened, her eyes went really wide and she'd muttered something about severe quirk backlash.
After that, I realized how hard it had probably been to hold up that huge building, and from so far away. I didn't even know he could do that. It would make sense if he had some pretty bad backlash.
I was worried about exactly how bad it might be.
I looked up at where Hizashi was leaned against the tent, looking down, and Shota was across from him, sitting on the ground and drinking some water.
None of us had said a word since we were told to stay there. It had been somewhere around an hour by now. No one really knew what to say, much less wanted to say it. We were all a bit too knocked off our feet by the near death experience, and worried for Izuku.
So we just sat there. Well, I didn't sit. I couldn't stay still. My brain was racing, and so was the rest of my body.
So I paced for almost another half hour, until my legs were sore, and until the healer finally came out of the tent.
"He's ok." She said calmly, letting each of us relax our shoulders a bit. "He's got a sprained ankle and won't be able to walk very easily for a few days, but nothing my quirk can't help heal."
"How'd he sprain his ankle?" Hizashi asked.
"According to him, while he was running through the rubble trying to get to you guys after he realized the building was going to come down," she answered, and Hizashi lowered his head.
"Anything else?" Shota asked, changing the subject. He could probably tell Hizashi felt bad too.
"Well, according to what you guys told me, he appears to have had some severe quirk backlash. His muscles and nerves connected to his quirk became overwhelmed and flared up once they and a chance to relax. They'll likely still hurt a bit for a few days, and he probably shouldn't use his quirk much for a little while. But other then that, he'll be fine. But if he plans to ever do something like that again, he should probably prepare his body better for it first."
All three of us breathed a sigh of relief at the news that he was fine.
"He's awake now, if you guys want to see him."
Me and Hizashi practically raced forward, but behind us I heard Shota thank the lady before following.
"Izuku?" I called as I walked into the tent.
Izuku was sitting on a mattress in the center of the room, rubbing his thumb down the the front of his forearm. He looked up when he heard them come in, then jumped up, or tried to, but fell back to the mattress due to his ankle, when he saw who it was.
"Oboro!" He called, worry in his voice. "Are you and Shota ok?"
I chuckled, partially with relief to see him fine, walking over and sitting next to him on the mattress. "Perfectly fine, thanks to you!" I wrapped my arms around him in a hug. "You saved our lives! We'd probably be dead if it weren't for you."
"Yeah! And that was super impressive what you did back there," Hizashi chimed in. "You literally held a giant building, from, like, ten yards away or something! I didn't even know you could do that!"
Izuku chuckled, turning red from the praise. "Thanks. I didn't know I could do that either really. But I'm pretty sure it was just instincts or something, being how scared I was, I didn't even mean to do that, it sorta just, happened."
"But you still did it," Shota said, appearing in the doorway. "That's impressive by itself."
"Shota." Izuku looked up at him, concern coming back up. "Are you-."
"I'm fine," Shota cut in. "And, thanks for the save."
Izuku smiled. "Of course." He raised his arm up to rub the back of his neck nervously, but winced from the effort before he could.
"How're your arms?" I asked.
"Much better then that first pain that knocked me out, but they do still hurt," Izuku went back to rubbing his arm. "Rubbing it like this helps a bit though."
"I'm so sorry, Izuku," Hizashi said quietly, head down. "I'm sorry all of you. Me hitting that building got Izuku hurt and almost-."
Izuku had stood up by this point, limped on his bandaged ankle over to Hizashi, and rested a hand on his shoulder.
I watched as Hizashi looked up at him, and Izuku gave him that wide, everything's gonna be ok smile of his. The same smile that had warmed each of our hearts many times before.
Hizashi smiled back and nodded, as if the smiles had been a silent conversation.
And everyone in the room knew what had been said.
Because this was Izuku we were talking about.
