Roman is in his hotel room thinking about how he's going to make this up to Gerri when his phone rings. It's Shiv calling and he's tempted to let it ring out, but then he grabs it. "Hey, whoreface. I'm not really in the mood for your—"

"Rome, it's Ken," Shiv interrupts, and there are tears in her voice that make his heart stop.

"What's happened?" This is it he's dead I always knew this would happen it's my fault—

"He's in hospital," says Shiv and he breathes again. The world hasn't ended after all. "The kids found him, in the pool at his hotel. It looks like he was drinking, and he fell off his inflatable…"

Roman remembers the last time he saw his brother, his head shaved and his eyes dead, sounding more monotonous than usual. "How bad is it?"

"Iverson found him pretty quickly." Roman remembers finding Kendall unconscious in the bathroom one Thanksgiving as a teenager and his heart would break for his nephew if he could feel anything other than fear. "Comfrey called an ambulance. I'll send you the details of the hospital now."

"Okay. I'll see you there."

"Alright. I love you."

"Love you too."

After hanging up and getting the details of the hospital and arranging for his driver to collect him, Roman automatically calls Gerri without thinking about what he's doing. He wouldn't blame her for ignoring him but she answers straight away.

"Rome?"

"Gerri, Ken's in hospital—"

"I know. Your dad called. He wants me on the legal side."

Roman's mind goes blank, until he remembers the press, non-disclosures, etc. "Oh, okay."

"I'm on my way to the hospital. I'll see you there."

"Yeah. See you there."

"He'll be alright, Roman." Gerri sounds brisk and businesslike again.

"Thanks, Ger. Uh, that stuff earlier…"

"I talked to your dad and convinced him that you were just being typically gross and I didn't report you because I wanted to protect the company."

"Oh. Okay. So you're not fired?"

"Not yet."

"Good. That's good." His driver is outside. "See you at the hospital."

On arrival at the hospital he uses his limited Italian to get directed to a private room. At least his brother's not in the ICU. They have a waiting room to themselves, the family plus Gerri. Roman hugs Shiv and Connor and brushes off Tom before sitting beside his father.

"So, what's the latest?" he asks.

"He's still unconscious, but he's breathing," says Tom. "They revived him quickly."

"Good. That's good."

"They're letting us in in groups of three," says Connor. "If you wanna go in, with Shiv and Pop…"

"Uh, no." He's not ready to see Kendall like that yet. "You and Shiv go. Dad, you going in?"

"Take Tom," says Logan. Tom pats Logan's shoulder, then nods and follows Connor and Shiv out.

Gerri clears her throat from where she's standing in the corner. "I'll give you two a minute." She leaves, shutting the door behind her.

When it's just Roman and his father in the waiting room, Logan clears his throat and says, "So, about that picture."

"Oh, Dad, like… really? Ken's still in there. Can we not?"

"I think we should talk about it. That's if you're to carry on working with Gerri." Roman shuffles in his plastic seat. "So, what was it, a crush?"

"What? No." He tries to laugh it off. "I was just fucking with her. It was a joke."

"Uh huh. Shiv mentioned some other stuff, about your personal trainer…"

Fucking Shiv... "That was nothing. Just rumours. He got upset when I fired him."

"Well, you can see why I'm confused, son. One minute I'm hearing you're a faggot and the next, you're chasing a woman old enough to be your mother."

"Yeah, well, I've always been weird, Dad."

"Hmm." Logan contemplates this. "Did anything happen, when you were younger?"

Roman freezes. "What do you mean?"

"You know, I never liked having Mo and those others around you kids. The wolf pack." Logan puts disdain into the old affectionate nicknames. "But I always made sure you kids were safe."

"Yeah. No. Of course you did."

"Because that's not something that I would allow to happen."

"No. Of course not. I know that." Roman wishes they could go back to talking about his dick pic. Size, lighting, angle?

"You had a therapist for a while. I never believed in all that baring your soul, too American—" Logan smiles. "But if that's what you need…"

"I'm not the one who just tried to drown myself, Dad."

Roman almost expects a smack in the mouth for that comment, but Logan merely nods. "I'll deal with Kendall when he wakes up. But you're my boy too, and I love you."

Roman can't remember his dad ever saying those words to him before. All it took was sending him a dick pic. It should be momentous, but all he can say in that moment is, "Yup. Great. It's all good."

"My Romulus." Logan ruffles his son's hair, then looks up as Gerri re-enters the room.

"Uh, Roman?" she says. "You can go in with Tom and Shiv now."

Roman gets unsteadily to his feet and goes to see his brother. He can barely look at Gerri as he passes her, but she catches his eye and he manages a brief nod.
