The embodiment of Weirdness – I've had it in my head for weeks now since I first heard and I thought it matched up perfectly with the tone and aspect I'm doing with this story.
But now after this next chapter, I think we all know things will be heating up…
The Storyteller993 – I'm glad you enjoyed it, and it will continue to be an aspect that continues to be on Momoyo's mind unlike the original.
I will see what I can do, but for now you guys will have to deal with cameos and such for now. But if you want to talk about it more seriously you can always shoot me a PM and I'll get in contact as soon as I can.
Alyousifahmed4 – Well… I'm thinking about it. But I'll drop little scenes like that in some routes…

The Goddess of War – Part 8
Festivals and Gatherings
July 6th , 2009, Monday
During a joint PE Class, Lu-sensei had us playing Kawakami Soccer, the main difference here is that in order to score was based on your performance and it started from a penalty kick.
But I was with the others reporting on the success of my date, "And so I think yesterday was a success."
"Congrats, Nagamasa; you really did it." Moro shook my hand.
"Thanks Moro." I replied.
"But you two didn't kiss yet? Then great, that means you haven't surpassed me yet. Heheh." Gakuto seemed relieved as he lapped.
"Did your date give you a lap pillow at the end?" I fire back.
"Guhawh…" Gakuto faints.
"Oh, he died." Moro said.
"Well I guess it was good I spent the whole day praying that things would go well." Capt commented.
"Capt you work late nights on the weekend, I know you were asleep all day." I reply.
"So any plans on date number 2?" Gen asks me.
"Well there's Tanabata tomorrow, so there's the festival happening at the Temple tomorrow night." I answer.
"But ain't your whole group going together?" Gen points out.
"Don't worry about that. At first we'll start out together, but then we'll separate into smaller groups." Capt recommended.
"I owe you again Capt." I told him with a smile.
"And I hope for great compensation. How does five bowls of Tenryu ramen with the works sound?" Capt demanded.
"Still you're lucky that you're going for a girl who's a cinch to understand." Gen said.
"What do you mean?" I ask him.
"I mean ain't girls usually tight about their secrets?" He asks me. "But with her she just tells it like it is."
"Yeah, now all Nagamasa's gotta do is deliver on that." Moro says.
"Yeah, and I've already made my promise to her." I tell them.
"You know by the way, what was that promise?" Yamato inquires.
"Oh that? Well I wanted to beat her in a fight." Nearly everyone went wide-eyed in shock at my reply.
"W-what are you insane!?" Gakuto who'd finally revived exclaimed.
"Oi, oi Nagamasa you're tough dude but Momo-senpai's not the Goddess of Martial Arts for nothing." Capt joined.
"He's right you know, she's got an undefeated record, it's impossible." Moro added his concern.
"Then I'll just have to give it my all right to the very end, she wouldn't want me to give her any less than that." I reply.
"How are you so calm about this dude?" Yamato asks me.
"Because like I keep telling you guys; I want to beat her to not only make up for our promise, but because it's how I want to show her how manly I am. By making her surrender before my sword. I'll show her I'm her equal." I replied evenly.
Nearly everyone seemed just as surprised by my reply they calmed down, but it seems our conversation attracted some attention of the Class 2-S variety.
"Oh my, it sounds like an interesting conversation is going on here, may we join?" Aoi Touma, followed by Inoue Jun right behind him joined our motley band. Even Kuma, Suguru and Yonpachi did too.
"Well Touma, how much of that did you hear?" I ask the 2-S resident genius.
"I heard the part about your wish to defeat Momo-senpai. And let me add on that I must admit it is indeed a worthy goal, after hearing of you defeating Margit-san in a duel I had high hopes for you. I must admit I may have underestimated you in the beginning." Aoi replies.
"But even so I think there's other ways to be manly to besides fighting; talking about the things you're proud of; that seems like common sense right?" Inoue added on.
"I'm making the assumption but from the way you spoke of Momo-senpai, would this inquiry of yours have a romantic overtone assumed in it?" Aoi inquires again.
"You can think of it like that if you want to." I reply.
"Then adding my own sense, I would show how jealous I am; perhaps that would be a form of manliness but given your own personality I don't think you would have anyone to be jealous of Nagamasa-kun." Aoi said.
Kuma, Suguru and Yonpachi, of whom the latter's choice was eliminated due to it's… graphic description all gave out their own ideas such as making food or in Suguru's choice raising my "STR."
Then from behind I felt Miyako's presence, "Hmm, what is it Miyako?"
"Well, since you're in the middle of nothing but guys; I thought seeing me in my bloomers would help clear your palate." Miyako told me with a smile.
"Well, thank you, I suppose…" I replied rubbing my head sheepishly.
"But they're a bit wedged in there, so maybe I should turn my back a bit more to you?" She now made her intentions clear to me.
"You're fine Miyako." But seeing a cute girl at least did clear my head.
I would defeat her… I will defeat Momoyo!
July 7th, 2009, Tuesday
The night of Tanabata—
Excitement had taken over the city as every street corner and all of Kawakami Temple was decorated to celebrate the occasion.
An excited Kazuko was all ready to go, "Okay! Time to play and time to eat!"
Momoyo came in from behind and watched her sister, "Don't get lost again, Wanko."
"You'd be shocked at how turned around she gets in here sometimes." I pointed out.
Eventually everyone gathered around and despite Gakuto dislike that none of the girl's decided to dress up for the festival; he apologized to Momoyo and Miyako after being brutally teased.
"Sweet then, all troops move out!" Capt led the pack as we entered the festival grounds.
We were taking a full tour of the stalls, but of course along the way Wanko decided to buy a bunch of food from vendors as talked with her full mouth, "I'm glad I came here with an empty stomach."
"Even so I think you've eaten far too much." Miyako commented.
"Where to now?" Momoyo asked, just as Moro accidentally bumped into someone while walking.
"Ah, excuse me… it's starting to get a bit crowded around here." He commented.
"Okay then, let's change things around and split up to beat the crowd." Kazama said; he and Miyako would go to the archery and ball throw stalls. Gakuto, Chris and Mayucchi would go look at some other stalls. While Moro, Yamato and Wanko visited some more food stalls.
"Momoyo, would you like to go this way?" I pointed at another section we hadn't visited.
"Yeah…" She agreed, but she seemed funny?
"You alright?" I asked her.
"I'm good, let's go." She took my hand and pulled me along.
"Good luck Nagamasa, this is all we can do for you." Moro thought.
"Go get her champ." Kazama thought.
"I'm jealous, but… good luck!" Gakuto still jealous; but still wished his friend luck.
"You got this Nagamasa, we're cheering for you." Yamato said to himself.
And so while the two of us were walking about, "Mmm… there's not many cute girls walking about this year. Mngh, look over there. It's nasty."
I looked over where he eyes were following and some guys were hitting on a few girls nearby, "Look at those playboys hitting on those poor young girls."
"Okay? So what? They seem quite receptive so far." Looking at the group the girls were indeed quite receptive to the boy's charms.
"They're going down the path where girls become women in a single summer's night." Momoyo lamented.
"Well if you put it like that, it is nasty." I told her.
"If they were fooling around with me, then their chastity would be safe. So really it would be wrong of me not to swoop on in there and show those girls what they're missing." Momoyo said.
"There you go again…" I guess old habit die hard, but sometimes I do have to put my foot down.
"Then I Kawakami Momoyo, am going in!" Just before she went charging in I grabbed her arm tightly.
"Before you go…" She stopped surprisingly, "You're with me tonight, so let's hang out together. C'mon I'll you some shaved ice."
"Hohoh? Can't stand to be away a minute from me. Okay, I wouldn't want to make my precious protégé jealous." She playfully roughed my hair with her fingers. "Now then which flavor of syrup should I pick…?"
I'm still surprised she even listened to me, I guess maybe I can have an effect on her…
While the rest of the family were having fun on their own we continued on our way after Momoyo just finished playing a round of Super Ball, essentially that whole: "See how many shots you can score in a minute" type of game.
And the prize, a bouncy ball that Momoyo was dribbling away.
"Brainstorm: What if I mixed in this bouncy ball with a martial arts style? That sounds pretty cool to me." Well there was that one guy in a Final Fantasy game who used a ball to fight with… what was his name?
"I mean it would depend on the type of ball and if the person had the athletics to achieve the style, it could in theory work, but basing it all around a ball is quite a risk." I answered seriously.
"Oh? I didn't expect you to answer that seriously. But you're right this would have to be a mastered thing." But then something gets Momoyo's attention.
We look over to see Chika and Mayo walking together, "Oh, aren't those girls classmates of yours?"
"Yeah, that's Ogasawara and her friends." I told her.
I then felt a mischievous aura around Momoyo as she prepared the bouncy ball in her hands, "Unforms, huh? Okay, time to show off my new bouncy ball martial arts style. I'm basically ripping off an old move I saw in a manga… Kawakami Style: Silver World!"
As Momoyo threw the ball it ricocheted off the ground at Ogasawara's feet causing a small gust of wind to blow upwards.
"Wawawa! Um, what just happened?!" In the process, the wind gust revealed Chika's panties.
"Ooh, Chika-chan's wearing white ones today. Hahaha! Silver World was definitely the right name for that move." Momoyo sounded proud of herself.
"No, just sounds like voyeurism under the guise of 'marital arts'." But it didn't seem like Momoyo cared about my concerns.
"I've got some other ideas too…" Oh God, stop…
"Like if I flick just like this… Kawakami Style: Finger Gun !" And so after flicking the ball it began to ricochet once more off of columns at a high rate of speed until it eventually returned to Momoyo's hand, but it was burnt due to the speed of which it was moving.
"And it comes right back to you like a boomerang, so you've got infinite ammo." She says this as the ball is scorched.
"Um, Momoyo that's not going to work with a soft bouncy ball like that…" I told her.
"Oh, whoops; guess I'll have to scratch off the infinite part." She replied.
"Oh yeah that reminds me, are you still playing Creature Hunter by chance?" I ask her, we still play it together, but I wanted to know if she does it alone.
"Oh that, yeah now and then to take my mind off things." Momoyo replies.
"What about those picture novels too?" I had given those to her as well a few days ago.
"There were times I could almost figure out what they meant. I still can't believe one girl went to hell for stepping on a loaf of bread." Geez, Kazama what kind of books do you own?
"And the CDs?"
"Hmm, I tried them all but… none of them really blew me away. They're not as good as listening to you are." Hearing that I couldn't help but blush.
"Hey now, I'm not some music star…" I could feel my face getting red.
"Hoho, look at you getting red again." Well at least I seemed to have her hooked on one thing. But still the rest is just gonna have to take time especially our match…
"Still you've been recommending a lot of stuff to me lately." She pointed out.
"I'm still getting used to stuff here, so I want to talk with you about a lot of things." I honestly tell her.
"Heheh, how noble of you. Hmm, oh hey look over there. There's a goldfish cooping stall." She pointed out as a man with a long pond of goldfish in front of him.
Oh yeah! If I could have her raise that goldfish, I know for sure that'll get her mind off things, "So how about I catch you a goldfish then, Momoyo?"
"Hmm, a goldfish? But don't they die really fast?" She muses.
"That depends on the owner, goldfish can actually live pretty long if you take care of them. I mean I helped a friend back home in the states raise a few chicks on their farm into full blown chickens." I reply.
"Well sure, I guess… Oh! That goldfish over there has a nice color to him!" I looked over and to my shock it was the same blue colored goldfish as I remembered him.
"The blue one in the back corner?" I pointed to it.
"Yeah, yeah that's the little guy I want!" She says a little excited. But he was pretty big for just s goldfish, if I'm not quick enough in scooping him and getting him in the bag he'll fall and his chances of dying will increase.
"Getting him will be tricky. I can feel his life force from here." Geez, does every animal in this world know martial arts or is trained in it?!
I can see him swimming vigorously at the bottom of the bond, I'll have to time this just right…
"He's pretty big… but above all I like his pretty color." Momoyo replies.
"Alright leave'em to me Momoyo." I tell her with a thumbs up.
"Yeah, I'll leave it to you. Hey sir, we'll play." I tell the carny.
"Hey, hey don't tell Momoyo's the—" But Momoyo calms him down.
"Don't worry I'm just watching this time."
"Then it's fine. Can't have you taking all my best goldfish." The carny seemed to calm down.
Alright then here I go!
I'll have to time it just right…
I could see him swimming around, but he's finally come up… Just sit tight…
He started inching closer… and closer… Damn it, he turned around! No, gotta keep calm…
And… there he is!
I scooped him up quick and got him into the bag before the paper could break, "Got him!"
"Hmph! You're pretty quick kid!" The carny was shocked at my reaction time.
"Wow ~" Momoyo seemed a little impressed.
I secured the goldfish into it's bag and handed him off to Momoyo. "Well, one shot, one goldfish."
"You were pretty good. You proved your worth protégé." She happily ruffled my hair again. She began happily staring at the blue goldfish. "Hmm… I'm liking his color more by the second."
"Take good care of him now." I tell her
"Hmm… I'll name him 'Naga', short for your name since you were the one who got him for me. I've never raised a pet before, but I'll give it a try." Her kind gaze lingered on the goldfish.
I think this could work… even if a little, even just a minute fraction of it, I hope this would lower her lust for battle.
"Thanks, Nagamasa." But for me most of all is just seeing her happy.
July 9th, 2009, Thursday
"Haaah… I'm so tired…" I'd been spending the last few days studying after all the fun so I hadn't gone to bed until about 1 AM.
"That was a very big yawn. Did you stay up all night?" Mayo asked me concerned.
"Yes, but for a good reason, I've been studying a lot more heavily these last few days." I tell her.
"Wow! Then I'm so proud of you Azai-chan." Mayo seems happy for me.
"Yeah, I want to get in the rankings and wipe the smirks off those S-class jerks faces." I tell her, but of course that's only part of it.
"I can see it in your eyes, you're really serious about this." Mayo points out.
"Yeah, I got a new goal I have to achieve so that was a challenge to myself to either put up or shut up."
If I could get in the top 3 or 5, I'm sure Momoyo would notice that and getting high marks would also have the school consider me in the future for S-class, although I'd probably have to ask about that with Umeko-sensei later.
Over the last few days she and I would text back and forth during my studies, seeing her replies really gave me a boost and helped me get through it even harder.
But despite my want to study, I could feel the tension in the air and this day everything would boil over.
…
…
…
"Hmm, guess I'm safe from that whole Goblin's Banquet thing. I haven't seen hide nor hair of Yonpachi, Moro or Gakuto… guess I'm in the clear."
I have no want to go to a gathering of the worst types of people to roam this school. Sure I know my friends like Gakuto and Moro are there, but that had always been in their natures so I couldn't really blame them.
And so I decided to take my time and head for the library and quietly study away.
"Hmm?" I looked up and saw that it was Yumiko Yaba, the archery captain and member of class 3-B.
"Ah, senpai hello." I greeted her in a whisper.
"Ah, Azai-san good afternoon are you here studying? I'm quite impressed with how you've excelled in your attention to your academic life. I hear you've only been at Kawakami for the last few months correct?" She asked.
"Yes, but I suppose you could say I've had a kick in the rear to pick me up and make my dreams come true." I reply.
"A dream you say. Well then as your senior there's not much I can do but wish you luck. Also, if you are ever in the mood for an activity we are always accepting new members for the Archery club." She offers.
"I will think about it, thank you. Well goodbye, senpai." I saw with a wave as I return to my desk. She gives me a light smile as she waves back.
"Kuuuuuh! Azai-san talked to me! I never thought he would come and talk to me of all people! No , calm down… You're cool persona is slipping… But after I heard he defeated Margit-san I knew he had to be powerful, but not only that he's the very spitting image of an ikemen!" Yumiko said to herself excitedly in her head.
I had this weird feeling wash over me, it's not like when Miyako stares at me, but it's like a tremble compared to the icy cold of Miyako.
Well even so, I finish studying at school and head for the temple. Despite its old-fashioned ways, I did actually have a computer in my room mostly that I used for school work and surfing the net, but recently I had entered a message board and met a pen pal of mine who went by, "BigShotOto95"
And yes… I know it's Haguro Otomo. But surprisingly we found each other one day on a martial arts message board and from there we just kept on talking and talking about stuff we liked; food, music, movies and tv; almost anything.
Oh, seems like she's on…
BigShot: Hey there, how you been saw you were on and wanted to drop a message!
TrueJustice: Hey there yourself, you finally out of class too?
BigShot: Yeah we got exams coming up soon, I swear the old man here loves his tests. We have more homework then tests on average.
TrueJustice: But I guess all the martial arts makes up for it?
BigShot: Yeah, I guess so. So what's it like being a student of Kawakami?
TrueJustice: Intense when you have the Goddess of Martial Arts here as a training partner, so that answer your question?
BigShot: Guess it should've been rhetorical huh?
Oh that reminded me…
TrueJustice: Did you get the care package in the mail yet?
BigShot: Thanks for reminding me, I just added them to my collection. I never thought Kawakami sold such rare brand name fireworks. You should totally come here to Kyushu during Tanabata, we do it really big over here with the light shows and nothing beat's mine!
I believe it…
TrueJustice: Should I be worried that you'll be a pyromaniac someday?
BigShot: What's that supposed to mean!? None of my moves use real gunpowder, they're all powered by Ki.
Huh… I didn't know that. Replace gunpowder with spiritual energy… Interesting…
TrueJustice: Any good fights recently?
BigShot: Not really, lot of challengers but they're so weak I get rid of them in groups now. Why you got someone good lined up for me?
TrueJustice: Maybe not now, but maybe in about… a month's time could you come to Kawakami?
BigShot: Why? Something big going down?
TrueJustice: Can't ruin the surprise, just see if you can get any of your friends to join us. Like I said before if the Goddess of Martial arts is here…
BigShot: Then that'll definitely be not boring! Alright, I'll tell them and you send the word we'll be there! See ya!
And with that I log out too. I love it when a plan starts coming together…
July 10th, 2009, Friday
The Friday Gathering—
"Momoyo, how's the goldfish doing?" I ask her about the goldfish.
"It's weird. I never thought about how much work there'd be starting out." Seems like she's out of her element, but if she really loves that thing as much as she does she can do it. "You have to dechlorinate, set up filters, and just that costs a lot."
"But just looking at him swim happily is what makes it worthwhile doesn't it?" I say with a smile.
"Yeah, that and I've been following the advice you gave, and that seems to be working out." She tells me.
"Great. Thank you, Moro." I look over with a side-eye to the resident nerd of the group.
"Always happy to help." Moro noticed.
"Still though I never thought you'd raise a goldfish of all things, Momo-senpai." Gakuto said kind of surprised.
"I was super surprised when I saw 'Naga' in his bag." Kazuko says.
"We should all have a feast to celebrate the occasion." Miyako teases.
"You're all that surprised? Damn that's harsh." Momoyo says a little indignant. "I can't explain why, but 'Naga' really has grown on me."
"Yeah, that blue color of his is really unique." I comment.
"Yeah, when I saw him among all those weak red goldfish it's like he was calling out to be free. I couldn't let him stay in there." Momoyo says. "He needed an adventure of his own."
"You do remember I caught him right?" I told her with a raised brow.
"Yeah, yeah. I remember, of course. Thanks for that…" She whispered that last part in my ear, and then to my surprise she put her head on top of mine and kept it there.
"Ooh, there's a presence. Capt's here." Momoyo says.
And now with everyone here and with exams coming up we decided to use this chance for everyone who wanted to; to study and try to raise their grades by increasing their score by even a little.
Moro and I took out the materials needed for our study session, "Alright, time to teach the class."
Of course as free spirits Momoyo and Capt were on the other side of the room, while everyone else was over here, well…
"Capt, can I join you?" Kazuko tried to slink off.
"Come here young lady." I took Wanko by the ear and took her to the other side to study.
"Awawa! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but it hurts! Please stop!" She whines.
"You have a D in English, I'm not gonna let that stand while I'm here. If you can raise it by one letter grade even if it's just a C -… I'll double the amount of rice balls I give you for lunch." I offered her.
"You mean I get 20 of your delicious onigiri!? Yay, yay!" Wanko was now motivated!
"Aah, my fiancé; I love how you can be so strict but so caring… let's get married already!" Miyako acts up.
"I'm jilting you, don't come looking for me." I shoot her down.
"Aah, you meanie…" That stopped her.
This is now routine for me and I don't even live in the Shimazu Dorm, kind of glad I don't.
"Given that you're an America originally Nagamasa you've got an advantage in this field. We'll follow your lead." Moro said.
"Well for Kazuko's sake I'll have to harm on her the fundamentals so hopefully that's good enough for her. But what about you Chris?" I turn to the German transfer.
"Hmm, I'm confident in my abilities, but I would still like some assistance as well." Chris says.
And with no Matsukaze in the way, Mayucchi also joins us in our English studies. Meanwhile in the Free Spirited side.
"Chris is becoming a lot more flexible then before when she first started… Hmm, what you reading there Momo-senpai?" Capt asked.
"Some stuff I got from the library about taking care of goldfish." Momoyo answered.
"Wow. I feel like I'm watching something special." Kazama said.
"Seems like goldfish are really delicate, so I gotta be careful. It's way easier to destroy something than raise it…" Momoyo seemed to muse.
"Haha, hearing that I know 'Naga' will be a good thing for her. I know she really likes things that get her attention. So he'll do the trick…" I think to myself after hearing her.
"Hey, Naga! What's this example mean?" Kazuko got my attention.
"Oh, sorry… let me see… Ah, it's 'Parents love their troublesome children all the more.'" I read out.
"It's a passage about you, Wanko." Miyako said.
"Mmm?" Wanko is confused.
"It means the more of a dummy the kid is, the cuter they are." I patted her head, but she wasn't having any of it.
"Mmm! I know you're making fun of me! I'll fight you!" And with that things were going apace, hopefully we can ride this momentum into the exams.
July 13th, 2009, Monday
Day of the exams—
"Show me the fruits of your hard work. Top scorers will have their names posted in the hallway . Exhibit the depths of your potential! Now… begin!"
I take a deep breath and exhale calming myself. I got this, I'll ace these tests and make it in the top scores!
Here are the highlights of exam week…
July 14th, 2009, Tuesday
For Tuesday, the subject was Japanese history…
I'd always been a lover of all things history so these questions were a breeze to get through. But some were fairly unique such as this one…
During the age of Emperor Shomu, what type of currency did the government try to circulate?
Easy… Wadokaichin coins.
Those types of questions many considered freebies, now it was onto the essay questions now.
July 15th, 2009, Wednesday
For Wednesday, we had civics and economics…
For this one Lu-sensei was our proctor watching over us.
Here was one of the questions. There interesting answers, but one could only answer this…
Which treaty, established during the Cold War was designed to prevent wars before they happened?
The answer was… CFE (or Conventional Armed Forces in Europe) Treaty.
With that out of the way only way to move.. was forward!
July 16th, 2009, Friday
The subject today was… English.
With Kyojin-sensei as out proctor.
And so our task as with this question is to find the closest matching phrase in English: ("Tonari no heya ga urusakute nemuremasen.")
The answer is… ("I can not sleep because the room next door is so noisy.")
And after that one I was sweeping through the other ones in order. Sure they got harder, but I wasn't going to let that stop me.
And that was our last exam for the week…
"That was your last exam. Well done hanging in there." Umeko-sensei congratulated us. "I hope everyone did well?"
Kazuko looked beat, "Haah… I'm gonna drop dead right now."
"Wanko-chan's melting like ice cream in the sun." Mayo commented, but it got a chuckle out of Umeko.
"Hah. Then she's finally put that brain of hers to good use. You should all be able to see your results by the end of next week." Umeko informed us.
"Are you going to be grading them right away? That must be a lot of work." Mayo seemed impressed.
"It's no problem. We've already begun grading the exams from earlier in the week. If anything, giving you your grades back is the real problem. After all, your report cards are due in a week." Umeko said.
And so after Gakuto received a few well-deserved cracks of Ume-sensei's whip for being a nosy-butt…
With exams over, after we receive our grades; it was summer break. And with this chance I'll get closer to her!
July 18th, 2009, Sunday
In a wide-open field by the Tama River we were playing soccer as a group.
"Think you can stop my Tornado dribble!?" Kazama was moving wit the ball going between his feet.
However Kazuko had his number, "It's more easier than you think! Hah!" With a slide she steals the ball.
Moro picks up the loose ball, "Wow! Nice, Moro!"
"I'm passing to you Momo-senpai!" Moro kicked it to Momoyo.
Momoyo was ready, "Okay, I'll score a hundred points with one shot."
But Miyako was now ready to steal this time, "Heh, heh. I've got you now." Momoyo grunted in dissatisfaction, even though she was holding back losing was not a good feeling to her.
"Chris, I'm passing you, straight as an arrow." Miyako passed it straight to Chris which she received.
"Then I am ready. Fujiyama… Pass!" She passed the ball, to who…?
"Nani!?" Gakuto was confused, the whole time her eyes were on him who could she.
"Nice pass, Chris! And now… in air!" I caught the ball and with a quick fake shot, I then launched the ball with my other foot and it made it's way past Gakuto for us to score.
"What the hell kind of air shot was that?!" Gakuto exclaimed.
"Boo! Poor sport!" I shot back.
"That shot was amazing Nagamasa! You must teach it to me sometime." I high-fived Chris.
"Sure anytime, it's a little tricky, but if you do it right you can change the tide of any game."
"Geez, she's getting more flexible…" I could hear Yamato grumbling.
"Huff, huff… Still all this running is really taking the wind out of me." Moro said with heavy breaths.
"For us they can play as much as they want, while we've got to struggle to keep up." Yamato added on.
And so we enjoyed a wholesome game of soccer together…
"So, so what's next?" Kazuko seemed ready to let it all out.
"Well someone's a little bundle of energy this evening. Hmm, how about we play house and be as realistic as we can. There can be a couple already drifting apart." Yamato offered.
"Want to skip to the part that happens at night, Mayu-Mayu?" Momoyo said lightly.
"Hu!? W-what happens at night!?" Mayucchi said panicky.
"Really you can tack on 'at night' to a lot of things and you'll wind up talking about sex." Momoyo pointed out.
"For example?" Chris asked.
"Miyako at night…" Momoyo said for example.
"My lust has increased…" Miyako said as if she had a state increase.
"Wanko at night…" Momoyo tried again.
"I've only got time to train! Push-ups, sit-ups and squats!" Well that didn't work.
"Bless your heart." I say.
"How about we all go to Okinawa in August?" Momoyo proposes.
"You mean that hotel owned by a former pupil at the Temple?" I point out.
"And how it also counts as Kawakami Temple's Okinawa training grounds?" Wanko pointed out as well.
"Yeah, an old student inherited his family's boarding house in his hometown in Okinawa, and he's said we're welcome to come whenever." Momoyo said.
"Seriously?! Wait, is it free?" Cpt inquires.
"Well the expenses of room and board are paid by the hotel, but transportation we pay on our end." Momoyo told him.
"Tamashiro-san and Shinjo-san run the place and they feel indebted to Grandpa." Wanko said.
"Oh yeah did one of them call recently saying that he was begging us to visit since business was down?" I asked.
"Yeah, we'll be staying from the 10th to the 13th." Momoyo informed us.
"Nice, that's right before Obon. I guess I have no complaints." Moro replied.
"Yeah, and I have no dates scheduled for those days." Gakuto told us.
"Oh? You usually do have dates? I'm impressed Gakuto." Chris said in 'amazement'. I patted her shoulder.
After whispering in her ear a few choice words, she immediately turned red and her anger now went towards Gakuto, "You… you're nothing but a player!" And with that she kicked him into the air again…
"What did I do!?" Gakuto come back down to Earth with a heard landing.
"Okay. Everyone coming to Okinawa, come next to me!" Everyone then immediately begins to circle around Kazuko as she finds herself trapped.
"Wawawa!" She cries out.
"Hahaha! So everyone's going? This is gonna be a crazy trip." Momoyo says.
A trip to Okinawa is a big event, I'll do what I can to use this opportunity!
July 19th, 2009, Monday
With the cries of cicadas echoing across Kawakami everyone knew summer was finally here.
And at this special time of year, there was a special event that Kawakami Academy hosted…
"The school swimsuit festival! Tell me I'm right, Nagamasa!" Momoyo spotted me it would seem, but I was being honest in my intentions being here. "Yahoo! Yahoo!"
"Stop it. You're making me blush." The class 3-F girls had PE right after lunch, they were already near the pool. There were no end to the people over here looking.
"What a view. Gramps, you old pervert, you really know what parts of old-fashioned culture are worth keeping." Momoyo seemed elated. "This is awesome. I could watch my classmates all day long. Still I never expected you to come and peep so openly."
"Well there's only one girl here who I have eyes for you know?" My tone made it obvious just as much the direction of my eyes followed Momoyo.
"Heheh, I want to say you're no different they those guys over there…" She pointed out Gakuto, Moro, Yonpachi and Aoi; who had a small fan club of girls swarm him upon his arrival.
"But even so I'm only here to see you, Momoyo." She then flicked my forehead.
"Hmph, where'd you get the balls to start acting cheeky?" She said slightly annoyed.
"Ow!" I yipped.
"Heheh. Well, do what you want. You're honest, and for that you get to watch for free." And with that she shamelessly struck a bold pose.
Oooh, if only I had a camera!
"Wow, you really are okay with this." I comment.
"Yeah, I'm feeling generous today. I have anther challenger coming to the temple tonight. He's said to be the strongest man in Australia." She tells me.
"It's like world tour came to you instead of you finding it." I reply.
After school—
"Alright, it's time to embark on our mission to forge peace with Class 2-S." Mayo said. We decided to give the idea of negotiation a try. "Out mission is to try and fix the strained relationship between our classes."
Kumagai also decided to join us as an emissary seeing he has a refined palate he'd be perfect to recommend food for a party afterwards.
And while many of the others voiced their concerns it seemed like Mayo was deadest on this even with Yamato and I's own objections on the matter.
"Me and Wanko will tag along as escort, Yamato. I'll leave the rest to you, Kuma and Mayo." I tell him.
"You got it! I'm your girl!" Wanko replied. Even then she started shadowboxing, her clothes snapping with every punch.
Yamato to my surprise had wanted to come, and sure my own goal was mostly self-improvement my friends in this class were important to me too.
And with that our group left for the hostile territory that was Class 2-S.
Waiting for us was Aoi Touma, I suppose he also thought this period was the best time for negotiation.
"You came, just as we discussed. Welcome!" Despite his soft greeting Mayo was nervous.
"H-Hello." She shakenly replied.
Inoue immediately saw her and went into his "mode" as I called it, "Right this way, mademoiselle."
Unfortunately, Kokoro spotted our presence, "What is the meaning of this? You would bring members of 2-F into our midst?"
But Inoue to my credit stopped her, "There all here to help make peace. You'll be sorry if you do anything to them."
"Peace? With 2-F? What makes you think we want peace?" Kokoro now looked insulted.
"We too were unaware of these efforts." Hideo comments.
But just as Kazuko comes in, "Yet if Kazuko-dono is part of this, we shall let it pass! Mwahaha!" And now with the actual class rep of 2-S at peace this should be easy.
"So please, relax yourselves." Aoi asks Mayo.
"O-Okay." And she seems to do so. But we begin to notice everyone staring at us…
"Hoho. Listen to a wild dog barking away, as if she thinks she's human." Kokoro begins pestering Wanko.
"Oh my look out, here comes Ms. Prime and Proper yet she has mud in her ears." I shoot back.
"Mmph!" Wanko grunts.
D-don't fight Wanko-chan." Mayo tells Kazuko.
"Nagamasa, chill dude." Yamato tells me.
"I know. If I snap and start a fight…" Kazuko trembles, "Yamato, Nagamasa, Miyako won't let me make it home alive… Awawa." She trembles even more.
Aoi then handed Hideo a form, "Hideo, could you sign this as class representative of 2-S?"
"Oh, you seek our signature? Well then, we must first look over this document." In his usual business mode, Hideo actually carefully looks over the peace treaty. "Hm… eternal peace between Class S and Class F?"
Some of the other students started talking smack but Inoue put them in their place, who knew a weirdo like him a good side?
"You seek more amicable relations?" Hideo inquired.
"Yes. Let's stop meaninglessly tearing at each other." Mayo said cheerfully.
"I concur as well. I see no true need for us to be so hostile." Aoi agreed.
"Touma's all for it, then so am I!" Koyuki agreed, she waved at me upon seeing me and I waved back.
"And what is this evening event?" Hideo inquires again.
Kuma-chan explained he wanted to hold a sort of party to welcome peace between the classes.
"I'm not so sure we'd enjoy it." Another 2-S student cracked. "Not only when we have so many delicacies you could only dream of."
"That is enough, you insolent commoner!" Hideo attempted to quiet the others down, but it seemed Kokoro was their spokesperson.
"Nom Kuki! He speaks the truth of how we in 2-S truly feel!" Kokoro agreed. "We're more then wiling to have peace! But for that one line must be added to this accord."
"And… what would that be?" Mayo asked nervously.
"That Class F acknowledges their inferiority to Class S." Kokoro said with a sneer.
"Hahaha, nice. That'll make them know their place." Another 2-S student laughed out. IT cause a chain of others to join in as well.
Aoi also seems a bit miffed that his own class can't seem to come to a consensus as they always have.
But Inoue still tells us that they as the diplomats in this case are willing to sign it.
"Indeed. We have no objection to adding our name to this contract." Hideo agrees.
And with one final order from Hideo it seems the other rabble-rousers seemed to be silenced by his demand as he signs the peace accord.
"Wow, amazing." But Hideo heard Kazuko say that.
"I-Indeed, Kazuko-dono! We are amazing! Mwahahaha!" Well she caused that one to herself.
But after that the delegations seem to amicably talk amongst themselves, but then almost as if to rub salt on the still bandaged wound.
"Well if Kuki-kun's alright with it, I'll go along with it." One S class student says with a sigh. "But you must be loving this Amakasu."
"Huh?" She's confused.
"By doing this you hope to catch one of our eye's, huh you gold digger? Everyone knows your family is broke, haha, but becoming a slut? Really?" The S class student continues to dig at Mayo as she starts to tear up.
"That's enough… Eh?" Wanko seemed to go charging in but stopped, she looked behind the student that had been insulting Mayo and saw… me.
"Hey…" I put my hand on the guys shoulder as he turned to see me.
"Wait? When did Nagamasa…?" Yamato pointed out I had all but vanished and reappeared in the blink of an eye.
"Haaaah!" And with a strength I didn't know I had I threw said student out the door and as he smacked into the wall in the hall.
"Anyone else got anything to say?" I say threateningly as my hand goes to my sword; the other S-class students seem to whimper as they seek refuge in their desks.
"He's right! I won't stand here as you insult my friend!" Wanko exclaims.
"It was you lot that laid your hands on him you barbarians! IS that what you brute call being proper?" Kokoro still seemed up for a fight.
"Hahaha, says the girl who can only bark and has no bite." I was about tired with this prissy, preened up noble.
"You dare insult me!?" Kokoro turned toward me now.
"Yeah, I do." I reply cooly, my expression never changing.
"Raaah! Hoe dare you say that bout Class Rep!" Inoue also went to town on the splintered Class S student in the hall.
"Jun please, you need to clam down." I'm shocked he's even clam.
"Is this your warped idea of eternal peace? I knew this was a waste of time!" Kokoro argued.
"You wanted nothing of it from the very beginning! If you have the guts to whine, then fight it out. If you can't, then you need to shut your damn mouth!" I fire back at her fiercely.
"Then it seems you barbarians need to be taught a lesson." Kokoro still was looking for a fight.
Me and Wanko continued to stare Kokoro down, all but ready to fight…
"Please stop!" Mayo finally screamed out, silence filled the room. "Why?! Why can't we understand each other?! All I… All I want is for us to get along, I can't take seeing us all like this!"
She was now on the verge of tears, finally regaining my senses, I took the Class rep into my embrace as she sobbed a bit.
That was when Kyojin-sensei appeared and tried to break up the argument after hearing Mayo's yell probably and surprisingly got her to stand down.
Then to everyone's shock but my own Tesshin appeared, "I've been listening to every word you've said students!"
"Grandpa!?" Wanko was stunned.
"It is truly terrible that none of you seem to be able to get along. But even if talk can not bring that level of understanding, Amakasu, there is another way. Through competition." Tesshin explained
"Competition?" She asked.
"Yes. I believe it wise for both sides to stand down for now. And in two days from now, on Wednesday, I will offer a sublime plan." But everyone felt a bad feeling…
But in the end the classes still remained at each other's throats…
And in other news, Momoyo defeated the Australian "super fighter", Kanga Roo in 28 seconds flat.
July 21st, 2009, Wednesday
Today's the day for the class exam results!
"Okay, it seems the results are up in the hall." Miyako informed us.
With that everyone joined us out in the hall as we looked at the postings:
1st Place: Aoi Touma
2nd Place: Hideo Kuki
And 3rd Place: Azai Nagamasa
"Heck yeah! I did it!" I cheered.
"Ooh, I was sixth. I'll have to work harder next time." Mayo said, but for sixth place overall? Damn that was pretty good, no wonder she's the class representative of 2-F.
"I was thirty-first? Hmm, that's not bad. Miyako glanced at her score.
"Incredible Nagamasa, you did it." Chris said patting me on the back amazed at my result.
"Thanks Chris for cheering me along." I thanked her.
"Of course you made it. My love propelled you forward." Miyako said from behind me.
"Oh it's lively out here. What's up?" Momoyo appeared suddenly.
"Yeah, look." I pointed them out, specifically my place.
"Oh, third place. That's a lot higher then normal. Top three, eh? Look at you go." She threw her arm around my shoulder, once again just being in close proximity to her put a smile on my face.
"I've still got farther to go, there's two more people I've got to surpass." I told her.
"Yeah, and I can't wait to see you do it. Every time I see him like this now I can't help but feel… happy. Keep going Nagamasa. Show me what you got!" Her thoughts betrayed her outer self.
Everyone else looked to see that many in the top 50 rankings were those of Class S, and even in the top thirsty most were from Class S. OF course the policy here was if those in Class ever dropped below the top fifty they were kicked out.
"Hey guys… I think someone from Class S isn't on here!" I pointed out.
"Huh? Let me see… yeah he's right!" Yamato checked the rankings and noticed one S class student missing from the roster.
And with this open seat for the taking… it was an opportunity of a lifetime. I know that Class S seats have a sort of entrance exam and in order to pass you have to be the top scorer or one of several top scorers depending on how many people were eliminated.
Then the hallway cleared as the 2-S students made their way to the rankings board led by Aoi and Hideo.
As they all checked their rankings they noticed who was missing from the list, a student by the name of Nakamura who just so happened to be absent from school today. From the sound of it he was a bit aloof, and more outgoing but it seems he slipped up in his studies and finally the pressure got to him.
And now after school, the gathered representatives of each class were gathered in the gymnasium.
Thank you all for coming, and in no small numbers either." Tesshin commented.
"Mwahaha! Pray tell us of this competition you spoke of the other day!" Hideo requested.
Both sides seemed ready to go at it already, but both sides had their main battlers stand down.
"It is indeed a full-fledged battle is what is needed to end this tension. To that end, I have prepared a suitable battlefield for such an event. Let the Kawakami War begin!" Tesshin announced.
"The what?" Yamato asked.
"Essentially if I've heard rumor of it correctly it pits one class against another in open battle it's supposed to be a final offer to mediate things between classes should the usual system of duels or negotiations in our case not be effective." I tell him.
"Hmm it is just as Nagamasa says, however you also reserve the fight to recruit other fighters among the classes her in Kawakami Academy to build your army's strength beyond just your own classes." Tesshin began to outline the event. "The field chosen is the Tanzawa Mountains, and the goal is simple – to defeat the enemy's main general."
Of course, there were the usual rules such as no sharp weapons, as most would be wooden replicas or the back of the blade would be used exclusively.
Guns and explosives were banned. But arrows were allowed so long as the tips were Academy-regulated. I had been prepared for just such an occasion for this.
"Ah excuse me, Tesshin-sensei!" I called out.
"Hmm, what is it young Azai?" I then passed along a piece of paper with a request on it, When Tesshin received it, he seemed to actually smile.
"I understand. Such participants are allowed as an exception and the ONLY exception, do I make myself clear?" Tesshin said seriously to me.
"Yes, sir!" I replied.
"Harumph, to think one of my own students would involve one of his… Ah well, I'm sure he'll love the press that comes from it." Tesshin thought.
He listed off the remainder of the rules which both sides agreed to. And with the date of August 31st as the day for the Kawakami War to start it was safer to say it had already begun…
And thus the curtains opened to on the full-scale war between both Classes 2-F and 2-S.
July 23rd, 2009, Thursday
By the next day word of the commencement of the Kawakami War had begun…
This was finally my chance, and after me and Momoyo had a talk the other night we both knew this was THE time to finally settle things between us and keep our promise.
And already both sides were playing up the recruitment game. I told Yamato about my deal with Tesshin.
"Eh? You got warriors from out west to come help us?! Five of the best!?" He said in shock.
"Yeah, the little leader of theirs is a pen pal of mine all the way in Kyushu, I already told her about the date and she says her and 4 other friends of hers will come in August to participate. OF course, the rumor of 5 Western warriors is already over the school…" I told him.
But for now outside, out classmates were passing out fliers recruiting people the old-fashioned way. The idea being to being along anyone with a harsh enough grudge against 2-S to our side.
"Hey, Nagamasa! I heard!" It was Toshimaru, seeing her in uniform was quite a sight, she was very prim and proper more so like a strict warrior then a stuck up.
"Like I said you ever needed me, I'm your girl and I brought some friends… a lot of them. Look outside." I did so and to my surprise there was over 25 students all wielding wooden spears in formation.
"Their part of the Yari Mock Battle club, we mostly do choreographed fighting sequences, but we also practice our spear skills as well. Consider us on your side." She gives me a bow.
"Alright, we'll be counting on you." I return the favor.
With us was Mayucchi who already had joined out army, "I can't believe the scale of this."
"Yeah, it's already the talk of the school. And Nagamasa, you've been smiling all day long, what's gotten into you?" Yamato asked me.
"Not much, just happy about something." I didn't tell him about last night, not only cause Momoyo threatened me not too, but because I wanted to.
I knew we wouldn't have Momoyo on our side, so I also pulled a little something-something else together last night before bed.
But Yamato saw Momoyo down the hall and asked her, "Nee-san, will you be our ace?"
"Oh, about that… I refuse!" She said simply with a smirk. "Besides your ace is right behind you, right Nagamasa?"
"Eh, him… wait? Did you know about this!?" He turns to me.
"Yeah, I don't have any regrets about it. This is the only way for us to keep our promise to face each other, right Momoyo?" I turn to her.
"Yeah, Aoi Touma approached me the other day to join and I accepted. Just the idea of fighting you all; Kazuko, Chris, Miyako, Mayu-Mayu… it's getting my blood boiling! And fighting you Nagamasa…" She seemed the happiest I'd ever seen her in quite some time.
"Even so I… can't believe you." Yamato was in shock. He usually could rely on her incredible strength but for the first time she was now his enemy.
"Heheh, a girl's got to have her fun. I can't think of more important reason than that, right Nagamasa?" She asks me.
"Yeah… and like I promised you on the Tama River, I will defeat you Momoyo!" I declared to her.
"Well even so… that's fine Nee-san." Seems Yamato's bounced back from the surprise and thought of a plan to counter her joining the S Army.
"My strategy—and with Nagamasa's… no, everyone's strength. We will defeat you and the S Army!" Yamato declares.
"Kuh… Hahaha! That's the spirit Yamato, I'm happy seeing you get so worked up. This is starting to get fun! So show me the best you've got!" She was fired up, I could see it in her eyes.
But with that, now came my chance to prove to her I was a man in my own right. I would have her surrender to my sword. To win her heart, I'd have to defeat her by my own hand!
Already news of Momoyo joining the S Army spread like wildfire, but to counter that talk of Yamato recruiting 20 of the Kawakami Temple's best warrior monks also began to spread. On top of that, my own rumors of 5 western warriors and a mystery fighter also reached the ears of everyone at the Academy.
In class, Yamato and I were sending calls and texts every which way we could think. In class we were all discussing the state of recruitment so far.
Kazama had returned from his own mission just then, "I'm back! The whole Koppou club said they'll be joining us!"
"Fantastic, me and Nagamasa will be going to find new recruits as well. Remember guys, the idea is to make our army as large as possible.
Gakuto tried to recruit the Swim Club, but sadly his personality got in the way.
Yamato and I successfully recruited the Sumo Club to the F Army. Despite the influence that Class S had many in this school had their grudges against them.
And with that… the start of our rag-tag Resistance Army began to form.
