Amy's POV
I and Shadow had just concluded our conversation and I decided to brew us some tea. After setting the kettle on the stove and turning it on, I walked into the living room where I saw Shadow staring at the floor, looking deep in thought.
I closed the door to the kitchen, causing a 'click' sound and also causing Shadow to snap out of his trance and look at me. I smiled a little at him and sat on the chair next to the couch he was sitting on. "Tea will soon be ready" I said, reaching for the remote to the television. All I got was a 'hmm' as an indication that he heard.
I looked up at the clock and saw that it had already been 20 minutes since Tails had left to get some groceries. I didn't think much of it as I turned to look at Shadow. He looked tired and fed up and I already knew why. We were still looking for Sonic. I could have agreed it was stupid on our part to just leave him there but... it was too much. Shadow looked like he was about to say something but didn't, deciding to stare at the table instead.
I sighed a little too loudly, I know this because Shadow looked up at me again. I smiled at him again and just shook my head. It was getting harder to act like this, to act like I was fine and I could take care of things. I'm guessing Shadow knew I was tired and said"You should take a break from all this, like Knuckles and Tails are doing. I and Rouge can cover for you" He said, Knuckles has been taking Sonic's death unexpectedly rough. Been staying on Angel Island trying to 'communicate' with his spirit, I guess?
"Do you want anything in your tea?" I found myself asking Shadow, smiling brightly at him...and trying to avoid taking the offer. I didn't even feel surprised when he gave me a questioning look, obviously not going to just drop it. I just sighed, I guess my mind just did that to try and get my mind off Son-...other things. I sighed tiredly at myself and looked at Shadow "I'm sorry, I'm just really tired, y'know. Taking care of things at HQ, trying to avoid the news, looking out for Tails. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind looking after him. Everything's just too much and-" I cut myself off as I realized I was just complaining to him, I started to feel tears prick at my eyes. "It's fine if you want to take a break, Rose" Shadow said, looking at me like he was... concerned? I looked at him with shock. He didn't have the irritated look I thought he would. "Yeah, I'm tired, Rouge's tired. Hell, we're all tired. But Sonic would want us to stick and look after things together, right?" Shadow continued, now I was surprised. "Wow, I never really thought you'd see things like this, in all honesty, I didn't think you'd really show concern-" "I wouldn't say it to his face, but it was fun having races with him and actually trying to win. It has become to quiet here" He said leaning back, looking like he was going to sleep. "You should probably go check on the tea and stop staring at me too"My eyes widened as I shot off the armchair and rushed to the kitchen. I completely forgot about the tea.I got to the kitchen to see the tea had over brewed. I sighed and turned off the stove and threw the tea away. I walked back to the door and asked "Coffee?", Shadow perked up immediately and answered immediately with a "Yes". I giggled a little at that and went to make the coffee
A few minutes later and I walked to the living room with two cups filled with coffee. I handed one to Shadow and looked at the clock, while sitting down. My eyebrows furrowed in worry as I read the time' 35 minutes? Now I'm getting worried'. I looked at Shadow as he looked at me, probably thinking the same thing. Tails shouldn't be taking this long at all, it's obvious something happened. I opened my mouth and said "Something is wrong".
Shadow pulled out his communicator and started to make a call. "Rouge?...Yeah, I'm still here... Have you found anything? That's fine. Listen, Tails is spending more time than necessary getting groceries and I and Amy can feel that something is wrong. Could you search the area for him?...Thanks...Yeah, talk to you later" Shadow ended the call and looked at me. I just sighed, feeling like it was the millionth time today
Tails' POV
As I and Rouge opened the door to the house, I saw Amy and Shadow stand from their seats and walk to the door, I looked Amy in the eye and I guess she noticed I had been crying. Amy walked up to me and hugged me tight, at first I wanted to pull away and go to my room to be left alone. But then I felt myself sniffle and then tears started to fall from my eyes. I hiccuped as I just let myself accept the comfort and cried. I could feel all the emotions I held back start to come out and I felt myself start to sob. I felt Rouge take the groceries from my hand as I hugged Amy back. I felt her start to rub my back and say sweet nothings in my ear. I felt myself want to tell her everything that happened but my body wouldn't let me as I sobbed my heart out. And then I felt tired.
My crying calmed for sometime and I felt Amy pull back. She had tears in her eyes and I just looked at her, tears falling from my eyes. "I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have let you out of the house. I knew s-someone would do something but I let you out anyway hoping you'd feel b-better but now I bet I just made it w-worse" She said, her voice breaking at the end. I just shook my head and hugged her again. "I-It wasn't your f-fault" I said as I shook my head again. She hugged me back too and then pulled away. "Go get some rest, you look tired" My eyes widened as I shook my head, I'm guessing I looked scared cause she started looking concerned. "Why not?" She asked me, I just whispered"I've been thinking stuff I want to forget and anytime I sleep I see his..." I cut myself and look away. "Tails, you see what?" Amy said looking really concerned now. "I see h-his ey-eyes" I said as I turned to look at Shadow.
He looked like he needed sleep, he was looking at me with worry in his eyes and I really can say I don't blame him. Amy looked like she understood what I was talking about, I'm grateful I don't have to explain. "Ok, how about you come stay with me in the kitchen, help me cook and stuff" I quickly nodded my head and followed Amy into the kitchen with Shadow and Rouge.
