Episode 3

(Rock concerts with twenty minute intermissions and a midsection reserved for a slow-ass ballad, utterly killing the rock and roll energy generated by what appeared to be a solid opening. Who did Klavier put in charge of planning his concerts? Fire that person.)

"Klavier's band is not shown as being merely a rock-an'-roll band. And in fact, this is actually quite clever. Starting off with a bang, making a solid opening to consolidate the crowd's attention and then sifting to something more soothing and relaxing to give the crowd time to catch their breath. Really, when you make the crowd hop around with awesome music for so long, you should give them time to calm down and power up before continuing to rock it out." One sin added.

(Also, if Klavier is anywhere near as big a deal as the game makes him out to be, twenty percent off isn't going to make the tickets affordable to Apollo or Phoenix.)

"Even though the game is literally showing you that they can afford them? I…I don't get it. Are you refuting what the game shows you? And what makes your opinion on this any more convincing?" One sin added.

(Borginian) Holy fuck, she's speaking in Wingding.]

"The fact that they went though the trouble of creating an entire language with symbols for letters and everything shows how dedicated the developers team is. And seeing as this language is a critical plot point both here and in AAI…do I even need to finish this sentence?" one sin added.

(Lamiroir has to have her responses interpreted, but can understand what people say about her in English just fine. In other words, foreshadowing.)

"Putting aside the fact that foreshadowing is not a bad thing…I guess you have never heard about receptive bilingualism. Besides, Lamiroir, is shown being able to speak in English. She even acts as Machi's interpreter. The fact she doesn't always choose to do so doesn't change anything." One sin added.

(Also, Apollo makes entirely too many comments about how attractive his mother is. I know he doesn't know, but that's still creepy.)

"But it is something that would happen in real life. I mean, if you see a gorgeous woman and you are unaware you are related to her, you can say she is attractive. Who are you blaming right now, Lamiroir for being gorgeous or Apollo for being unaware? I can never be sure on this one." One sin added.

(The guitar's serenade) I sure hope you like this song. This case plays it more time than Star Wars plays the imperial march.)

"Okay…no, I agree, the video and the song are overused here. That one of the reasons why this is my least favorite case." One sin removed.

(Did they really only book Lamiroir for one song?)

"Yes. She is a guest star in this concert. The Gavviners are the stars of the show. Why would they want more songs from her? You think they would want her to overshadow them in their own concert?" one sin added.

(Klavier put a homicide detective who professes to despise both him and her job in charge of backstage security.)

"Even though it is not outright stated, it is heavily implied Klavier has a crush on Ema. But she doesn't like him for what he did to Phoenix and his arrogance. He is trying to win her over by trying to give her more opportunities to see him as the great guy he is. So there you have it. I explained your sin away once again. Look, this case is pretty bad on its own, you don't have to stick to nitpicky details to pad your sin count." One sin added.

(No one bothered to check Letouse's hang to see if he was holding anything, even though that's a cliché every detective in the series ought to be instructed in. A coarse corpse course, of course.)

"What did I tell you about padding the sin count? You really think this is something that affects the case in any way? Nothing was in his hand, so what would change if they did check it?" one sin added.

(Machi also responds in Borginian, but understands Lamiroir talking to him in English. See earlier sin.)

"The same for me. Either Machi would have receptive bilingualism or this is foreshadowing. Neither scenario is sinful." One sin added.

(This huge ass gun is so powerful, it's kickback can dislocate the shoulder of a grown adult using it and break bones in anyone weaker. So naturally, the fourteen year old boy with no gun experience or injury to speak of is the perfect suspect for the person who shot the gun not once, but twice.)

"Good point. Really, the whole concept of Machi being the prime suspect of the case is ridiculous. This is the first case that managed to break my suspension of disbelief. In the list of stupid plots from games, this nonsense from serenade is easily in the top 10." One sin removed.

(Message in blood cliché. A twist of the usual, but the core of the cliché remains.)

"And why is that a sin? I mean, mystery fiction has been popular for decades. Using the same tricks as older stories woks to the game's benefit, as it will attract older people and mystery fiction fans. Successful stories lending out elements that contributed to their success to the next generation of writers is the basis of good writing." One sin added.

(Case about a rock concert evolves into a case about secrets agents at the drop of a hat. Am….am I still playing the same case here?)

"Yes. Name me one mystery story that doesn't have some sort of plot twist. Seriously, the victim, the accused or one of the witnesses being exposed as something they kept hidden is a very common trick used in crime fiction. And it works. Are you sinning the case for trying to create dramatic tension and thicken the plot? This is one of the few things it does correctly." One sin added.

(-Words are overrated! Feelings are what matter, Apollo! -It's kinda hard to build a court case on feelings) Game pokes fun at its sequel six years before said sequel came out.)

"And I think this shows how the legal system begins to get better in the next game. Machi being accused for this murder does seem stupid, and it is, but it is also evidence of how broken the system is. We have seen this in the previous games, but it is even worse here. The fact that the judge realized trials need more open-mindedness and new ideas to breathe life into them, and the fact he accepts Athena's mood matrix for it, is maturation of the series." One sin added.

(Trucy objects to the game's stage directions, which is funny, but…)

"Okay, you can stop now. Really, you get the point. This is meant as a joke for the benefit of the player. It seems you sometimes forget this is a game and some things are done for the purpose of satisfying the audience, even if they defy the in-game logic." One sin added.

(Why can't we have a normal, straightforward killing for once in this country?) Because then the series wouldn't exist. Neither would you.)

"So you realize the series only exists because the events happen in a specific way…and you will still shit on "Convenience" every chance you get." One sin added.

"Also Pierce yells at the screen cliché." One sin added.

(Apollo tries to light Ema on fire. The fact the game treats the occurrence so normally should tell you everything you need to know about how crazy these games are.)

"Yes. And that's we love them. Really, why else do we love them, if not for the incredible, hilarious craziness they have? Sure, for a number of other reasons, but mostly for this. Can you not suspend your disbelief for like, five seconds?" one sin added.

(Daryan offers to bake us pie, but we never get any.)

"I wouldn't even drink a glass of water that has been through his hands. Have you seen his design? I wouldn't even trust him to take care of my dead fly!" one sin added.

(Instead of using the thirty-minute delay to prepare for the trial, Apollo and Trucy read the newspaper. In 2026. Who reads newspapers now, let alone nine years in the future?)

"Many people do. No, really. Newspapers are still relevant. Unlike the internet, which is over-saturated with information, most of it false, thus making it impossible to determine what is true and what not…newspapers still maintain a level of honesty and truth, since all information is proof-checked by journalists with ethics. So Apollo and Trucy are being proper citizens right now." One sin added.

(Judge says having an interpreter for a witness is most unusual, but…is he saying he's never had someone who doesn't speak English fluently on the stand before? In one of the most immigrant-rich cites in America? How has he not encountered this before?)

"I can tell you are trying your hardest to put logic in here, and I truly appreciate the effort, but you are just making things unnecessarily difficult for yourself by trying to determine everything by real-world logic. In this universe what has not been seen happening or stated to have happened has not happened." One sin added.

(Is this one of those new-fangled things they invented while I wasn't looking?) This line was written about the I-Phone and nobody can convince me otherwise.]

"Okay, but…what the hell is your point? No, really. I have read this line five times and I still don't see the actual sin. The judge is shown multiple times to not have any clue about technology, if that's your issue. Otherwise….Yeah, I don't have a clue." one sin added.

(Apollo also tries to light the judge on fire. Are we sure Mr. Reus isn't actually his dad?)

"Again missing the obvious comical tone of this scene." One sin added.

[(Logical? I don't think this word means what you think it means, Herr Forehead.) What did the process bride do…]

"The process what?! D…do you mean the princess bride? D…do you even read these fics a second time before uploading them? I have every reason to believe you don't from this line alone." One sin added.

(Valant Gramarye cross-dressed as Lamiroir for his illusion extremely convincingly. I'd be impressed…if I wasn't more curious about when he developed his cross-dressing skills in the first place. Was he a drag queen on the side when his magic career slowed down? I…almost want to see this more than this case.)

"So…you didn't want the case to focus on figuring out how the teleportation trick was done…but you would have been interested in how Valant can change clothes like that? A girl with priorities. Have I written this sin before? I feel like I have written this sin before." One sin added.

(Apollo's been carrying the mixing board with him this whole time? That's convenient, but…why?)

"Because the lawyers in this series never throw out evidence? Just sayin' Phoenix carried a metal detector with him for two days. That was okay, but Apollo carrying a mixing board is bad?" one sin added.

(Also, Ema found crucial evidence-the firecracker fragments-at the crime scene, but gave them to Phoenix instead of the police. Because that make sense.)

"Well, Ema is shown to trust Phoenix more than anyone else and she knows Apollo will need this to have a chance at winning the case. So she has Phoenix deliver it to him because she trusts both of them to do the right thing." One sin added.

(Daryan laughs at a guy he recently murdered…for getting murdered. Asshole, much?)

"Yes. Daryan is an asshole. We hate his guts pretty much the whole time he's on the stand. Which is why we feel terrible to see him almost slip away and why we feel satisfied when we break him and he goes into roflcopter mode." One sin added.

(Gavin describes leaving Borginia) Scene of Gavin strip naked in an airport did not make it into the final version of the game.]

"Did we really need to see that, though? I mean, this girl is clearly fangirling for Klavier right now. I cannot blame her, but…discipline yourself, girl. Get your hormones in line. We have a guy who murdered a guy and framed a kid here." One sin added.

[(Gavin is shocked to realize he was unintentionally party to cocoon smuggling.) Wow. It's almost like he shouldn't have abused his power as a prosecutor for the sake of a thirty-seventh guitar or something. I'm not quite saying Gavin had it coming, but really?]

"So you think he is actually to blame for this? All this poor guy wanted was to get his guitar on American soil. Is it really his fault a greedy guy hid illegal contraband in there? It's amazing how a sin ago you were fangirling for Klavier and now you are crucifying him for no reason. The same has happened with Edgeworth before. We might need a cliché for that." One sin added.

[(Machi without his sunglasses) I get the sense this was supposed to be cute, but honestly, it looks more creepy.]

"Sinning this. This scene alone can make you feel better after the psychical and emotional pain this case put your through. Sure, the case is still ridiculous, but this animation will warm your heart." One sin added.
